Cami was born into the Savage Disciples MC, but she ventured out to build a life of her own away from the club. She’s engaged now, living a new life despite missing the bikers that raised her. Overall, she’s… fine. Sure, fine. She’s fine with the fiancé who is more interested in position and image than the woman in his life. She’s fine with the fake people around and the suffocating passive aggression. She’s fine with the fact that she is turning to drugs to self-medicate.
A Disciple will fight like a savage for what he wants.
When Gauge tags along to visit his club brother’s daughter, he can’t believe the two women he meets: the fiery daughter of a biker and the puppet with the blank affect. And yet, they’re both Cami. He sees the fire beneath surface, and he wants to watch it burn. He wants to rip away the man smothering her like a wet blanket. He wants to see the flames consume that cookie-cutter future-wife facade to the ground and dance with her in the flames.
When this biker clutches onto a Disciple’s daughter, there is no letting go.
Drew Elyse spends her days trying to convince the world that she is, in fact, a princess and writing tear-jerking and sexy romance novels. Her titles include the Savage Disciples MC and Sailor’s Grave series.
When she isn't writing, she can usually be found pouring over books with a pot of tea beside her, obsessively building her Disney collections, binge watching her favorite shows, or baking all manner of unhealthy things.
She lives outside her hometown of Chicago with her husband and their fur babies, Luna and Duncan.
Not going to lie this was a struggle to get through for me. It has nothing to do with the writing and everything to do with the content which unfortunately was not for me. The book was written well, some of the things that got to me:
* I am not a fan of the whole MC gone good thing , it has never worked for me. * A main female that allows guys to stomp all over them. * One minute the Hero was trying to be all tough guy and the next he was saying/thinking things like "bless her" and "that's delightful".
Unfortunately it just wasn't for me but I can see other's really enjoying it.
There is LOTS of OW/OM drama in this book. there was no 'cheating' as such but
Clutch by Drew Elyse is the first in Savage Disciples MC series it a fast read with plenty of excitement , it's a lust turned into love at first sight 🙄 It's can also be frustrating and you get that intense feeling to strangle the other woman who just causes more trouble 😤 If you want fast, sexy and a hot biker read then this is for you.
Overall Opinion: The first 2/3 of this had major potential, but I felt like that potential was lost in the final 1/3. I really enjoyed that first part, but the ending left me feeling conflicted and disappointed. It seemed like there were some major conflicts going on and the resolution for the conflicts was just too easy for me. They had a (somewhat) fight and separated, but then came back together and everything was perfectly lined up for their HEA. I think the author had some good ideas and the premise was good and had potential, but I felt like we needed to make the troubles a little more troubling (if that makes sense).
Storyline: This is Cami and Gauge's story. They meet when Gauge comes with Cami's dad to visit Cami where she lives with her fiancé. Her fiancé is super controlling, and has made her into the perfect stepford wife and not the biker's daughter she is. The sparks fly between Gauge and Cami and he not so delicately tells her that she deserves better than her fiancé. They start a text and calling relationship and eventually Cami leaves her fiancé and starts a relationship with Gauge. They have some sexy times, some ex drama , and eventually they find their HEA.
POV: This alternated between Cami and Gauge's POV.
Overall Pace of Story: Good. There were no times where I was skimming, and no instalove.
H rating: 3.5 stars. Gauge. He was a hot, alpha biker that sometimes said things before thinking. I did like how he apologized when he was wrong though.
h rating: 3 stars. Cami. I was confused as to why she stayed with her fiancé for so long as a doormat and then threw all sorts of sass at Gauge...she was just ok.
Sadness level: Low/moderate. There were some moments that got me teary, but they might not for other readers.
Heat level: Moderate. They had some steamy times.
Descriptive sex: Yes.
Sex scene with OW or OM:
Cheating:
Possible Triggers:
Closure: This had a HEA. Like I mentioned before, it was just too clean of an ending for me.
Worth the $?: Yes. I think it was an ok read and worth the $2.99.
3.75 RATING- Better than the most recent MC/biker books I've read lately. Still a guilty pleasure. I was worried the heroine was going to be a pathetic doormat but she got her shit sorted. Some of the bickering and her being a bitch (after she was done being pathetic) seemed pointless and was mildly irritating, but in the end she was a likable character.
The first half was stronger than the last half and the ending was just okay. Still the story kept me interested from the beginning and I enjoyed it overall. Ill definitely read the next book in the series when it releases. MC-lite.
One note: the formatting from Amazon on my Kindle Fire was messed up. Sometimes the paragraph from one page was carried over to the next when I flipped pages. Not sure what caused that worth a mention.
Hero- Same ole, same ole manwhore who talks more to his own penis than the heroine. Falls for the heroine and proves it by sleeping with a blonde instead of a brunette like the heroine. Ahh, true love.
Heroine- This was a game changer. She's turned her back on her MC roots and hooked up with a wealthy controlling White Bread man as she turns to drugs (cocaine) to mask her unhappiness. She still secretly listens to Metallica so she must be cool at least. Strip it all down, and she's a gold digging addict.
She finally leaves White Bread to stand on her own two feet shack up with the hero. She is miraculously free of any cocaine withdrawals. First time an H was his own personal rehab center.
I finally tuned out when the heroine decides to go alpha female on the poor girl the H got pregnant the night before he met the heroine. Poor little beta pregnant thang was getting uppity and asking questions about the where the baby would sleep when he was at the H's. H comes down fairly mildly but the heroine flounces off.
4.5 stars for me I took a chance when I once clicked this book since this is a new author and few reviews had been done on the book. I was totally impressed with this author's writing and the quality of the book. The characters are engaging and the story line hooked me from the first page. I loved the relationship Cami has with her father, Tank. Gauge is the type of hero I love, strong, possessive, a definite alpha and loyal. I definitely will be reading the next book in this series and hope that it will be as good as this one.
I'd been in an MC romance drought, so I was happy when CLUTCH showed up on my Kindle. I was ready to delve into a new club.
In CLUTCH, we're introduced to the Disciples MC, focusing on Camille (Cami) the President's daughter and club member, Gauge. Cami is not at all what I was expecting, since she was basically a Stepford wife who could only get through the day with drugs and alcohol. Gauge was a member who wanted nothing more than living the club life. But once these two set eyes on each other, they suddenly wanted they way they'd been living to change.
Cami was never willing to give up her hellish life with her fiance, because she figured she's wanted out of the MC life and this is what she gets. Even with her father, she's put on an act to make him think she was happy with her life. It wasn't until her father brought Gauge with him on his visit that she knew she had to get away from her life. It wasn't a quick move, but through conversations with Gauge, she found the courage to leave and the protection of her father's club and Gauge.
I thought it was interesting that Gauge was so willing to give up the club whores and such from practically the moment he met Cami. I figured it would take a bit to get this very alpha male to realize who he truly wanted, but I was pleasantly surprised that he'd give up everything at practically the snap of a finger. That doesn't mean that he was a push over, believe me he could display some a-holish behavior, but I really enjoyed the fact that he didn't need to sleep with a bunch of women or act like a douchebag to Cami while he figured out how he felt.
I enjoyed this start to the Disciples Daughter's MC series. I look forward to see what comes next.
Clutch is the first book of the Disciples Daughter series, it's a different MC story and i have to say that i have mixed feelings about it, i certainly liked Gauge and Cami because their characters have their flaws and that makes them very realistic.
Cami was very different person in the beginning having a fiance who the only thing he cared was appearances and status making her a person without will following and doing with no question whatever Nathaniel wanted until Gauge came and gave her a new air of confidence making her the master of herself. I liked a lot the part of how came her character evolved (there were sometimes in the book i wanted to shake in order to wake up and be angry with some situations). Moreover their intimate scenes were hot and their dialogues very funny and enjoyable.
Now on the second part of the story, well i have to say that i'm not a fan of those situations (don't wanna spoil so i'm not saying anything) whoever reads it will understand what i'm saying, don't get me wrong it's totally my personal opinion so that means some other readers won't have a problem with that. Apart from that everything else was interesting and enjoyable the plot evolved with steady pace, and the storyline creates many emotions from the beginning till the end. Also the last pages intrigued me a lot about the second book so i'm jumping into that right away.
I have read this story in some other MC books before. Different name, different place and all that. Nothing outstanding with it. I could even smell the plot a mile away.
2 STARS for the sexual tension in the begining. After the hook up, things went boring and very predictable.
Cami was born and raised in the Savage Disciples MC, it's in her blood and her heart but she lost her mother when she was only six years old and while at college she meets Nate and suddenly a new life is opened up for her. They become engaged but somewhere along the way friendly easy going Nate turns into the uptight and controlling Nathaniel and Cami becomes a shadow of the girl she one was. She's now Camille, drowning in beige, drinking and taking drugs just to cope with what her life has become. This was the part I struggled with at first I wasn't sure how I'd get along with someone who had willingly turned into a Stepford Wife and allowed herself to be told what to eat, listen to, wear etc and I can admit early on I kept reading mainly for Gauge who is smoking hot, but I'm getting ahead of myself. When her father Tank comes to visit Gauge comes along for the ride and the second he sees Cami he's lost, she's the woman he wants. As for Cami, in Gauge she sees a real man, no pretence, falseness or excuses and she can admit to herself that she wants him, badly. It turns out all Camille needed was something or in this case someone to make her realise how much she's gradually given up. I mentioned earlier that I struggled initially with Camille, at first glance she appears weak but it doesn't take long to discover her inner fire and once again she becomes Cami. There's so many MC books available at the moment and I try to read as many as I can, this comes out on the softer side and if you'd have asked me a while ago I would have said I preferred a darker, grittier read but now I'm not so sure since I really enjoyed this, I loved all the characters and the club and I can't wait for the next one 'Shift' Is this a 5 star read? Honestly I think it's a 4 but I enjoyed it so much I'm bumping it up.
The story line was a good idea- abused woman, biker guy wants to save her & claim her, plus the club's receptionist and all the drama that went with that. However, I honestly didn't feel bad, or even remotely buy, the emotional abuse. Cami acts one way while the fiancé is gone- spitfire and her true self, then supposedly turns into a docile woman when he comes home? It didn't compute. How she leaves him- yeah that was just too easy for me too.
I loved the brothers of the Disciple MC. I liked Gauge. I wasn't a fan of Cami's attitude with Gauge when they get together. However, I liked the drama with Stacey, Gauge, and Cami. I felt more towards that thread of a story, than the abuse thing. I wish the emotional abuse had played out to be more believable.
I LOVED the ending!!! Now I'm curious about Ash and Sketch. On to book two!
Kind of a biker light book. Harlequin MC. Whatever, I still liked it ok. I liked it until the 'Will You Marry Me?' scene right at the end, and Cami says, "Yes. A tbousand times yes." JUST EXACTLY - WORD FOR WORD - LIKE ONE OF THOSE BITCHES SAID IN THE (newer) PRIDE AND PREJUDICE MOVIE!
So, 3 stars = I liked it, became 2 stars = It Was OK
"He unleashed something wild in me; something I hadn't even known was there".
This is the first book in the series but I have read another book previously. Each book can be read as a standalone. I love the family feel of the club and the characters in this series.
If your looking for a bossy alpha biker and lots of angst then you've found it.
I liked all the characters from the club and the plot had a perfect balance of hotness, club business and angst.
There's no unnecessary violence or sexual acts in this book, I'm mentioning this because sometimes that's what you get in an MC read but the Savage disciples are a family club and have legit businesses, yes there's angst, yes there's drama and dirty mouthed bikers which I love and Cami and Clutch have a lot going on to keep you entertained.
Being a bikers daughter Cami is more than capable of holding her own, I liked her sass and she is a good match for Gauge.
A bit about the plot.. When Cami first meets Gauge he's accompanying Cami's father on a visit with his daughter where she lives with her stuck up fiance who tells her what to wear and expects her to go meet with other women in the country club playing the dutiful fiance. Cami went from college girlfriend to being arm candy and controlled.
Cami soon realised after her father and Gauges visit that she's living a lie, not only does she feel an immediate connection with Gauge but something Gauge says awakens something in her, that she is trying to be someone she isn't.
Cami eventually leaves her fake life and cheating fiance and returns home, immediately the bossy alpha biker claims her and the bumpy road for Cami and Gauge begins.
I enjoyed the angst, some things had me annoyed mainly the actions of the characters or little things like the direction the plot went but all in all a good MC read that I couldn't put down and read in one sitting.
Told in first persons dual pov and leads you to a hea.
Title: Clutch Author: Drew Elyse Genre: New Adult, Contemporary Romance, Drama, Suspense Series or Standalone: Standalone Series (The Disciples’ Daughters Series #1) Rating: ★★★★
Review
Before I start the review, since I know that for a lot of readers this is imperative before they start reading, this is a standalone story. Sure, it’s a series, but that series while containing brief glimpses I’m sure of these characters in them, is strictly Camille (Cami) and Gauge’s story and it does have a very clear HEA ending.
But that’s all you’re getting that way. No spoilers on just how that HEA is reached. Though, since this is a book based on an MC, you can’t expect that it’s easy.
Drew Elyse is a new author to me. I’ve never read any of her previous works, but I think after having a go with this one, her writing style and how well paced it is, will have me going back and experiencing the books that came before this one (one’s unrelated to this series).
I read a lot of emotionally driven books (the ones designed to rip your heart out), so there are these periods I have where I don’t want that. I want a read that’s a little rougher around the edges and that’s what I was after when I signed up to tackle this story. I got that rougher read in spades.
But I also got quite a bit of emotional attachment as well.
Camille grew up in the MC, and like most, it’s the only life she’s ever known. The brotherhood, the family aspect, it’s hers and even after putting some distance between herself and it, it’s still very much engrained in her. She might not be as deeply in it as she once was, but there’s no doubt that’s where her loyalties lie and you notice this right away during a conversation with her father (and then the subsequent visit where the story really picks up).
She’s living with her first love (or who at the time it happened she believed to be her first love), Nathaniel. The epitome of jackass if I’ve ever read one. The boy he was when she met him is not the one she ends up saddled with and to say she’s unhappy and lost is an understatement. He controls what she wears, who her friends are. Basically any aspect of her life that he can exert his dominance over, he’s doing it and within the first couple of pages I wanted her chucking this guy.
Enter Gauge and Cami’s father and what was probably the most uncomfortable visit/dinner I’ve ever bared witness too. The only good part of it being how downright hilarious it was to me. I enjoyed Gauge here. Leaving the mutual attraction between Cami and him out of it, the way he deals with Nathaniel had me in stitches. I was totally Team Gauge. And in the midst of it, you see the MC family aspect up close and personal as this man wasn’t only defending his lifestyle but also defending Cami and her dad. Loathing Nathaniel’s attitude and lack of respect damn near as much as I did.
Flash forward to the two of them sparking a relationship of sorts (friendship with a twist) while she’s still with Nathaniel. Gauge becoming her escape from this life she’s not even sure why she’s staying in when you can already see that she’s more of a spitfire than she lets on. I gotta admit, I had issues with her staying with him, same as Gauge. I couldn’t see why she would. There was not a damn thing redeeming about him. But the author did well here because right before that relationship blows up, you get to see inside Cami and see why she stayed (even if you wouldn’t have done it or agreed). It worked for me, but what worked more was her leaving and Gauge (and not her dad) being her first call.
Wake up call initiated.
Now it may be seen that these two moved into a relationship rather quickly, but considering that for weeks leading up to them being together they had been in constant contact through texts and phone calls, the speed at which this took place really didn’t bother me much. It worked. Plus at this point I was so over “Natey Boy” I was ready for them to get together. And get together they did.
Put two headstrong stubborn people together and the relationship is going to be anything but pretty. There were tense moments, funny moments, happy moments and everything in between all of these, but the realism here worked for me. I enjoyed that everything wasn’t roses all the time. That these two were real people and that they were gonna fight. Knock down drag out fights. Things said in the heat of anger (or hell, even passion) that they didn’t mean. It was raw, it was harsh at times but it was also very real.
The push and pull of their relationship giving me something that I don’t often see with the males in MC stories. A guy that will admit when he screws up. Owning his shit. Not all the time. Gauge never apologized for being the alpha male personality, but he did own his crap when he overreacted or took missteps that were glaringly obvious. To be quite honest, that endeared me to him more. Plus, during these early times together, you got to see the real Camille. The one that Nathaniel didn’t break. It was refreshing.
Enter the bombshell that changes the course of everything.
Now I don’t know if a lot of people will see this coming as they’re reading, but given how much attention I paid to the way the two of them were before they got together and then what happened after, I saw this coming a mile away, so it sort of felt predictable to me.
Did it work for them, did this couple need that little push in the drama department? Maybe but maybe not. They were both such spitfires I think they would have created their own drama together without outside forces getting involved, but I have to admit, this tied into a couple of other things for Cami and for Gauge both (based on their pasts and current situations) so it did fit here. Even with as much as I hated it lol. If this hadn’t have happened, I think it would have taken a lot longer for Cami to open up about a medical issue and Gauge to give you deep insight into the way he grew up.
There’s an incident that transpires quite close to the end that I think didn’t need to be there. An element of suspense with Nathaniel that at the end of the day I don’t think the club or the characters needed, which in the end changed my rating of this book slightly. But given that I was already invested and it wasn’t drawn out longer than a chapter or so, it didn’t affect me as much as it could have.
In the end, if you’re looking for a fast, steamy yet semi dysfunctional MC Romance that ends with a very concrete (and beautiful and sweet) HEA then this book is for you. If you’re a fan of romances that aren’t picture perfect and rosy all the time, again, this is for you. This book gave me everything I could have wanted from it and more, and to be quite honest, with the little bit of backstory that was given about the characters that will appear in book 2, I’m pretty eager to get my read on with this Club again real soon.
I can’t wait to see where this author takes this club next.
My thanks to the author and all others involved for giving me a first look at this before release. It was a journey that I’m glad to have taken.
Great story. I always love to read MC stories. There is so many ways a story can come about no matter what genre but, MC stories just have drama, nasty sex and someone always trying to take down the Club. Well this one has all that and a very tasty bag of chips to go with it and I couldn't stop reading until I was finished. Cami/Camile was born into the Club and after her mother died her father and the Club continued to raise her. When she went to college she met her fiance and became a person she didn't know. He changed her and she didn't what to do about it. Tank, Cami's dad is Sargent of Arms of the Club. He loves his daughter and no one would hurt her if has anything to say about and if they do they would answer to him and the Club. Tank is going to see Cami and he has Gauge riding along for the afternoon. When they pull up on their rides, get off and head to the door it flies open and he sees a f@cking wet dream... This is a book that I will be following up and reading more of the series.
I grabbed this book after the author was part of a Facebook event and mentioned book one in the series was free, so I grabbed it - nothing to lose right?!
Cami grew up in the club, but never returned after going away to college. She is currently living a beige life with a man very stuck on appearances. Gauge is a member of the Disciples MC and when a one night stand doesn't quite get the "one night" part decides to follow along with a brother off to see his daughter. When the two meet, it is instant attraction, but neither act on it.
What follows is the story of Gauge and Cami. It was a bit predictable in the outcome, but I enjoyed the journey. I will definitely read more of the series.
This was a decent biker romance. I loved the banter between all the characters and the romance with the hero and heroine was great. I love how Cami came back to her roots and she had a back bone to rival a hardcore biker. Gague is HOT! That’s the easiest way to describe him. He was dirty and just an all around alpha. The plot had good pacing. I wish we had gotten to see more of the getting to know each other. They talked for over a month and a half and we didn’t get to really see that bond form. After that they were just together. I feel like I missed something when I didn’t get to see that connection deepen. Overall I did like it and plan to read more in the series. 3 stars #2OCCJD
Admittedly MC romances aren’t my thing. This one was better written than most that I’ve read. The plot was predictable, but entertaining.
I didn’t love the cheesy epilogue and I also felt Staceys surprise twist at the end a bit… convenient. I can’t say anymore without spoiling, so I’ll just say that the situation would never happen like that in real life.
I love this author. She makes the story so real. You don’t read it and say, “Yeah right, like that would happen.”
Reactions were real and not dramatic to me. Cami was such a weak person and first, but grew up. I didn’t like that she went from one guy to another without really having her own, but to me she was never really with Nathaniel. Gauge was good. Did stupid man reactions at things, but hey he is a man and it was real.
