Magic at my fingertips, immortality on my side, and I’m still out of time. Until a volcano awoke near the modern city I call home, I hid my secrets well. I am Merlin the magician, but my friendship with the long-dead King Arthur was an eternity ago. My immortality is the unending mystery of my life. But when threads of magic lead me to a smoking mountain, it’s clear the threatening eruption isn’t natural. At first, I didn’t care about the looming disaster—after living through the Black Plague, other death tolls seem insignificant—but I’m the only one who can sense magic behind the chaos. Someone with abilities like mine is creating this catastrophe. If I can find the culprit before destruction rains burning death on innocent townsfolk and my modern-day friend sniffs out my true identity, perhaps I can finally discover why I’m still alive without losing everything I have. I am Merlin, after all—one of a kind. Meet Merlin long after Camelot in this Arthurian legend with a modern twist filled with magic, disasters, and a charismatic immortal with centuries-old secrets. The first four books of Immortal Merlin are included in this box Ignition, Winded, Floodgates, and Buried .
Emma Shelford feels that life is only complete with healthy doses of magic, history, and science. Since these aren't often found in the same place, she created her own worlds where they happily coexist. If you catch her in person, she will eagerly discuss Lord of the Rings ad nauseam, why the ancient Sumerians are so cool, and the important role of phytoplankton in the ocean.
Emma is the author of the Nautilus Legends (a marine biologist discovers that mythical sea creatures are real), the Musings of Merlin Series (Merlin is immortal, forever young, and living in the modern day), and the Breenan Series (a young woman follows a mysterious stranger into an enchanting Otherworld).
Dear lord. How can someone live for so many centuries and still be so dense? If I had to read the word "lauvan" one more time, I was fully prepared to lob the kindle out of the window. I usually devour any stories relating to Merlin & Arthur. Not this time.
It reads like a Saturday morning serial for young adults and older. It’s fun. Merlin is sarcastic and suffering from abandonment issues and loss. As the books progress he acquires a community of friends. He conquers challenges that test his metal and skills. He has never been able to answer the question of why he is special. He’s never known his father. So many questions. Modern times are woven with past stories that parallel he’s current situations and feelings. The books are fascinating.
It’s not often that I find a new author that grabs me and doesn’t let go. After finishing the first four books of this series I am blown away. What an amazing series. The author has a truly amazing imagination. She has created a realm of the impossible using characters we all grew up reading about that of Merlin, Arthur, and company. It looks like I’m going to have more reading to do. What a great book
These are a fantastic group of four stories as the Immortal Merlin, as he battles through feeling lonely and immortal, but comes across an evil cult who want to use the spirits. They will do whatever it takes and they will kill everyone in a moutainous region by triggering a volcano, a tsumani or sacrificing someone. Merlin struggles to stop them and in doing so once again finds friends, allies and love. The story is a fantastic believable tale and I will carry on to the next set.
Dnf at page 35. I saw an ad on social media for this book as Merlin goes to therapy and has adventures. I feel it's misleading. The therapy plot doesn't return in the first book after the first chapter. Text search reveals that It returns only cursorily in the sequels. Some odd plot devices: so magic is physics that humans don't know ? But only one person can manipulate those physics? Sounds like magic to me. Overall can't get myself to care about the characters and slow moving plot.
Fans of the BBC series won’t find the same concept here, but that’s fine. This series is just amazing and very well-written. I almost didn’t want to put it down. Seeing Merlin’s past and present meld together in a tapestry as his friends grew with him was great. You won’t be disappointed at all by picking this up.
It took me awhile to get through this. Slow start and multiple areas that just drag. Years of falling in love and then watching death take that loved one away. Years and years but still lead by the wrong head I guess that might mean he has more human in him than he knows. At the end almost made me give it four stars. Almost.
Merlin has lived on through the ages experiencing the love and loss of Arthur, his wives through the times, and other friends. He crosses purposes with a cult that is willing to allow loss of life to achieve their goals. I like the action, humor, historical legend, and romance. I look forward to the rest of the rest of the series.
Really enjoyable series. It has an interesting take on Merlin and goes between modern times and the time of King Arthur. Lots of exciting climaxes to the stories and a real page Turner. Only problem I found was it is difficult to put it down at night and go to sleep haha
I will recommend this series to my friends and family. The series is well written and the storyline keeps you guessing as to what will happen next. I look forward to reading the other books in the series.
Slow start but intriguing enough to peek interest in what the next page brings. Makes wonder how they would fair dealing with a long life that spends centuries.
I really enjoyed these books. While I have read other stories about Merlin in modern times, this Merlin one is logical, plausible, and just an outright fun read.
What can I say? I’m so into the characters , I just finished the first four books in the series five minutes ago. I’ve already ordered book five Possessed and am starting chapter one at 3 Am. Yes!! They are that good. Can’t put them down.
Overall I enjoyed.these to the point where I will definitely finish the series , on the down side one or two of the central characters seemed a little one dimensional, but I am hoping that we will get to know them better in the second half of the series.
I have enjoyed this series Just finished book three and on to four. This series is a wonderful blend through time of Merlin’s life and all the characters are fascinating and well written.
I gave this a 3 because it seems like a person that is 1500 years old seem pretty stupid. He leads with his little head not big head. The last 60% I couldn’t stand to read every word. I will not read next series.
I could not put this series down! Such an utterly fasinating take on the Merlin saga! I highly recommend this to fans of Mists of Avalon, and any other Arthur/Merlin books out there ( I personally have read too many to list!)!
Amazing series so far after reading the first 4 books! I can't wait to finish them all! Interesting new takes on the life of everyone's favorite sorcerer.
Great read, love how it all came together at the end. Looking forward to reading more in the series. Anyone who loved the series Merlin will enjoy this.
A bit predictable, but entwined past and present well. One sex scene in case your gifting. A young person.interesting explanations for Merlin s talents
