Best yet

Yep. This was the best one yet. And I've liked them all. Good job Jordan. The voices came through nicely, well defined characters, slick, fast paced storytelling.

A story with its own style...

I enjoyed this for what it is, but 90% of this story doesn't feel like it is about moving the plot forward, rather it is an exploration of life aboard the Human Ship when Ashrif, Elaska, and the usual suspects are on an away mission, 'the night shift' has the helm, and is faced with a crisis all their own.

Like the previous story, it ends with to be continued, no longer are we getting self contained episodes, this has gone serialized.

I enjoyed this story for what it is, there were several things in it that have me something to think about, at least one in the style that was unorthodox but really worked.

I am going to be sad when I finally read the last book in this series, but until then I am really enjoying this.

Outer space, human exploration, and alien contact intertwine dramatically within Jordan J. Estrada's Outer Sapiens: A Story of the Human Ship.

To read this, and other book reviews, visit my website: http://makinggoodstories.wordpress.com/.

A group of humans have managed to seize control of an alien ship, struggling to survive with a skeleton crew, hibernating human passengers, and an excursion team who seem to have gone missing. Trying to increase their odds of survival with their supplies dwindling to dangerously low levels, the crew wakes hibernating people one by one, asking them what their skill set is to determine if they would be of any help; a doctor is the greatest and most immediate need for assisting in managing the alien fetus sapping life from its host mother as its birth draws near. With their fragile system of functioning, the slightest disruption from a newcomer could cause an immense impact.

Told through the perspective of the various humans being awoken from hibernation upon an alien space ship, this brief story begins to develop the details of a larger intriguing tale. The telepathic communication of the alien beings with their hosts raises questions of reliability and sanity for the humans who remain on the ship, creating a further sense of tension to the scenario. Though this story appears to come after others within a series, it can be read alone (as I have done) and understood through the descriptions and basic context provided; there are some aspects to the narrative that seem a bit shrouded in mystery but it's not a burden for comprehension, which makes picking up the story at this point still enjoyable and entertaining as the situation aboard the ship progresses.

Overall, I'd give it a 3.5 out of 5 stars.
