The Æon Æxpansion expands the setting of Trinity Continuum: Æon by adding wondrous new technologies, two new types of playable characters, and a variety of terrifying new opponents.
The Æon Æxpansion requires both Trinity Continuum: Æon and the Trinity Continuum Core Rulebook to play. Inside, you will find:
Information about new noetic biotech, hardtech cyberware, military weapons, and other technologies of the early 22nd century Rules for creating and using the large and deadly battlesuits known as VARGs (Vacuum Assault and Reconnaissance Gear) Rules for creating and playing psiad and superior characters within the Trinity Continuum Rules for playing psions in the modern day setting of the Trinity Continuum Corebook New and deadly Aberrants and insidious Aberrant cults for characters to battle
This is a great expansion for Aeon. There a ton of useful stuff here: new tech (that is actually good), giant VARGs, two new playable character types (Psiads and Nihonjin Superiors), Aberrant cults, etc. It’s a must have for all Aeon players.
But it loses a star for a simple reason: Art. Here’s the deal: Rich Thomas is probably the best art director in RPGs. He has been the best for probably decades. So curiously, I have some difficulty understanding how Aeon has never really had any art designs that capture the setting and imagination - I’m talking about just a few iconic pieces. Sci-fi really needs some cool looking spaceships, power armor, etc in order to really get people excited about the setting.
Here’s a minor example: The Battlecruiser. There are actually stats for what is described as humanity’s largest warship. But there isn’t a picture. What? You can’t just be all, “Here is this bad ass ship! Look at these stats! What does it look like? We don’t have a clue.”
Overall, Aeon is one the best games out there, but it needs more iconic art to truly inspire.
