The City #3

Hell on Wheels

Rate this book
Cory Dylan takes his job as bartender at Ice Water in Hell very seriously. As far as he’s concerned, he’s the only person drawing the line between having a few drinks with friends and getting dangerously drunk. Refusing to serve a customer who had already imbibed too much has landed him a punch to the face more than once, but that doesn’t deter him. When, a customer attacks Cory on his way home from the club, his first reaction is to play the episode off as another quirk of his job. However, it soon becomes apparent the beating had nothing to do with his job and everything to do with his past.

Tao Kemoeatu works as the doorman and bouncer at Ice Water. His size often scares people away, including the one man he wants more than anyone. Watching Cory put his neck on the line every night has eaten at Tao. The sprite-like bartender barely speaks to him, yet Tao knows he’d walk through fire for the young man. He vows to protect Cory at all costs, but first he has to find a way to prove size doesn’t matter when dealing with the heart.

Oh Hell! Exactly. LOL This one rocked my boat and kept it afloat. Sweet, that rhymed.

This one was what I'd hoped and who I was sure it was about and kept me in the bowels of my favorite place on earth right now thanks to this series and this be Hell. There's a cliffhanger in a way, but not what you're thinking and not with the main characters of this story. Sorta. Now I'm looking forward to the next and as long as Carol keeps them getting hotter I'll keep on being an avid reader.

:thumbs up:

Okay #1 I rated this a 3 because there are no half stars. This would have rated a 3.5 for me.
The reason it only rated a 3.5 was because of the cliff hanger. It felt unfinished to me. Corys guilt is a huge part of the book and I felt like that was not delt with like I thought it would be.
The big cliff hanger obviously goes with book #4 but I just could help look for the next page and there was not one. That was it. Honestly after book #4 comes out I will most likely re-reate this higher but for this moment I could not.
Carol is one of my favorite authors. I feel like she is getting it right with the Cattle Valley books and I just held this to the same standard and for what ever reason it was not a match.
This is a great series truth be told and I will of course buy the next because I can not wait to find out what happens next! I am not a patient person BTW!! lol

This great little series just continues to get better and better.
This book concentrates on the story of Cory and Tao ans of Vory coming to accept his past and we learn what brought him to hell in the first place.
Lots of Lu and Dom as well.

Though he may be dead, Cory takes drinking seriously and as bartender at Ice Water, he makes sure no one drives drunk. His refusal to serve drunk patrons has landed him a split lip more than once, but it’s a hazard of the job as far as Cory is concerned. But when he’s attacked on the way home from work, it becomes clear that Cory may need protection, and Ice Water’s bouncer may just be the man for the job.

Tao has desired Cory from the moment they met, but the slighter man seems intimidated by Tao’s size. Yet when he sees that someone is after Cory, and that it may have nothing to do with his job and everything to do with his mortal life, Tao promises himself that nothing and no one will hurt the bartender, including himself. He just has to prove the last part to Cory.

In Hell on Wheels, the past seriously comes back to bite its heroes on the ass. To say that Cory didn’t live a pristine life as a human is an understatement, but because he has been genuinely atoning for it I liked him. Tao too is a sympathetic hero, so it’s not the protagonists of the story that made Hell on Wheels fall a bit flat for me. The problem I had was that Hell on Wheels was simply a bit too crowded and over-the-top for a novella. The heroes from the first two books in The City series all appear and almost all of them have larger-than-life personalities. This seemed to prevent any character of being more than a caricature of himself, which was a pity. The world of Hell – aka The City – seems incredibly interesting, but Ms. Lynne doesn’t delve into enough of anything to bring it truly to life. For me, Hell on Wheels was an okay story and truly a case of missed opportunity.

Number three in the series about Cory and Tao, the sprite and the Samoean. This one Cory deals with the reason his has banished himself to the City and his past decides to step in space. Tao, Lu and the rest try to help him deal with his past of Joshua and his father and what happened to them. But when Cory is in trouble, Draco decides to step in and give his soul for another. We also see the introduction of Michael, the beautiful Arch Angel (Lu's brother) make an appearance and set up the next in the series... Quick read, really enjoyable!

Another great hit Carol!!!! Two thumbs up all the way.

And you left more of a cliffhanger on this one, in setting up the next in the series.
Will so and so get out of you know where?, and what will happen to him? and will you know who still carry around all that guilt?
Now I can't wait till number 4.
Once again Awesome story Carol!

I'm very impatient to read the next book of this series. And the fact that it hasn't been out yet is not exactly helping. I want the cliffhanger that everyone mentioned solved and look forward to a real nice story between (maybe) Draco and Michael.

Good third installment

Another good story in the series. Tao and Cory are the main characters in this piece. I enjoyed their story and happy ending. It's great to see all the characters flow from book to book and how their relationships are developing. On to book four!!

I started the series out of order, but that this book worked great as a standalone. I can't wait to read all of them now.
