Reading an ordinary diary provides an extraordinary adventure. Cassie McAllister miraculously survived an attack by her ex-husband. But her breaking point comes when she starts hearing a voice in her head saying, “Save her.” She retreats to an old farmhouse in Idaho she inherited upon her mother’s death, with plans to fix the place up and fix herself in the process. Hidden in the attic, she finds a century-old diary.
Upon reading from the charmed book, she’s thrust back in time to 1890, into the life of Annie McDonald.Trapped in Annie’s life, Cassie meets Carrington Chambers, a local farmer with a murderous reputation. Annie is smitten, but Cassie is wary of his dark nature—and with good reason. She’s unaware that Annie mysteriously dies soon after the couple wed.
Back in the attic, Cassie is shocked when she encounters Carrington again—only now he’s a ghost. He seeks revenge and redemption and wants Cassie’s help getting both or risk eternity stuck in limbo. Cassie’s affection for Carrington grows, in two different centuries, as she gets dangerously close to deadly secrets about Annie’s demise.
Will she prevail and free the man she can never truly have? Or will fate intervene and claim yet another victim?
Loved this debut novel by Christine McFarland!! I could hardly put down this modern/historical time travel suspense romance!! Have I covered it all? The setting and characters were easy to connect with and when you finished with the book you are not finished with the story, I want more! I found myself with emotions of jealousy and intrigue thru the romance and drama as relationships tangled in this story line. You won't be disappointed! You can find it on Amazon in kindle version or order paperback.
Such a cool story! I have never read anything quiet like this but love the characters and the twists that come as they develop. Such a unique story that leaves you longing for the follow up stories! Can’t wait to find out more about Cassie in future stories! And I just love Carrington!
I finished Inheriting Fate last night. it was such a good read that I was determined to finish it! The fresh story line, exciting twists and turns, characters you love, hate, or love to hate, along with a plot that kept you guessing was everything that I hoped for.
I have no doubt that Christine McFarland will be on one of tomorrow's best sellers lists.
Her first book was immaginative, enthrawling, and exciting. It was full of romance, humor, history and mystery. I have no doubt she will continue to grow and bring us more and more amazing reads that will suck us in to another world as time goes by.
I eagerly await book two. And I'm in love with Carrington!
I do not like romance novels what with their heaving bosoms and throbbing manhoods. This book is different. A very novel and compelling story that kept me reading. Impossible to predict, every new turn leaves you thinking you’ve got it figured out, but you don’t. It does get a little racy at times, but more tastefully so than your typical romance.
I love a good historical fiction with some romance, time travel, intrigue and suspense mixed in and this book has it all and more! In no time I fell in love with the characters, their life stories and the way their stories slowly intertwined throughout time. The strength of the main character, Cassie, even when she is struggling with life's issues is most inspiring. I find that a lot of the books I read have somewhat similar story lines, but not this one. This first time author weaved a rich story line that had me eagerly awaiting what would happen next, and just when I thought I knew what would happen next, something new would unfold that would pull me in even deeper - I couldn't put the book down. I hated for the book to end but can't wait to read the next one. I highly recommend this to anyone wanting to escape into a story that will stay with you long after you finish the book.
Good read. The character of Carrington was delicious, dreamy, humorous and lovable. The perfect big, strong and tender cowboy. We should all have a man like that in our lives. The author took some artistic license writing this story but did it in a very good way. Kept me rapt. *Side note to author: make the cover art match the story. The first house was one story and the second, newer house had a big porch and porch swing. Plus, I can't make out if the woman's 'triangular' silouhette is her jacket sticking out at the lower edges or is she holding something?
This was one of the strangest most convoluted time travel, ghost story, haunted, fortune telling nonsense pieces of romantic fiction I've ever read! It Held My interest only because I wanted figure out the plot. It twisted and turned, invoking so much nonsense it was ridiculous! The author left the ending open to a second book, but I will not bother reading it. Sorry.
So I suck at writing reviews. I just have to say as soon as I read the first chapter I was hooked. I recommend it to anyone and everyone who likes a good romance time travel western kind of book. Like I said I suck at wrong reviews just read it you won’t be disappointed.
Surprisingly the best book I've read in a long time...
This was well written, an original story, and I'm definitely a fan of this author now. It's not every day you find a book that is more than you expect from a romance novel, but I loved every minute and highly recommend giving it a chance.
