Welcome to Divine Place, because sometimes a fresh start requires a little divine intervention.
Eloise Worthington is living her best afterlife. It helps that she was accidentally deposited in the supernatural section where immortals are put out to pasture. As the lone human among gods, witches, and a bevy of other species, it's all too apparent that she and her cat Mischief don't belong, not that Eloise minds what anyone else thinks. She's happy to take advantage of the village amenities and spend her eternal middle-aged years ogling the hot bods of the demigods.
When a villager ends up facedown in a hot tub, Eloise reluctantly drags herself out of the spa in order to put on her marshal badge and get to work. Unfortunately for Eloise, there are plenty of reasons to want the victim obliterated and everyone wants to take credit for the deadly deed. With more confessions than clues, Eloise needs help from the one demigod she hopes to avoid. Who knew trying to be better would make her so bitter?
Can Eloise identify the real killer or is she finally out of her depth?

I liked this book of the series better then the first. It kept the deeper character development to only a few. I think they still had too many characters overall, even if most were brief introductions. I had a hard time keeping all the various confessors straight, added with the various other characters of the town. It might be better to just release two or three new people per book, and develop the ones that have already been used to further the story.
The premise behind the story is also unique. Maybe Eloise doesn’t belong in the higher realms, but I am not certain she belongs in with a bunch of characters that have harmed or even caused the death of others either.
Somehow they do believe there are higher and lower realms as well as neighboring places like their own. It makes sense that obliteration would not necessarily destroy the person. Maybe they go to another village within their area if they don’t descend or ascend. That could be an interesting twist to add to the story, as Eloise isn’t supernatural but is in the realms now, could she possibly cross over into neighboring towns to act as Marshal for other groups as well that might be in need of her services.
I still don’t care for Eloise much. I don’t mind the irreverence or calling out others on their behaviors or promises, but some of the shallow and narcissistic tendencies she shows are horrendous to listen to. That she can sometimes do something amazing like trying to make sure Mitzi understands she’s just as worthy of finding a soulmate, if they exist, but then act so oblivious with others or even herself. It doesn’t ring true for a person. Almost like the author is having a hard time pinpointing her heroine’s character which is why she is constantly flip flopping her personality.
Not sure this series has a good enough premise and characters to do more then one or two more books. It’s already fizzling out for me after the second book. It just doesn’t draw you in and get you to want to invest the time to read about these characters.
As a human you never imagined that there were supernaturals living among you. Vampires witches wizards genies werewolves any number of other different types. Then something happens and you die. Next thing you know you’re in purgatory but it is purgatory for supernaturals and you were the only human there. Follow along and find out that purgatory is basically like living in another town except it’s not always comfortable and sometimes miserable. Although it is better than the actual lower regions of where one might go if you’re not a good person. Yet not as good as the heavenly realms. Our main character find yourself in a position of being named the new Marshal and she gets to solve all the mysteries and other trouble going on in their little town. Check it out very entertaining
I didn't like this one quite as much as the first one. The main character seemed way more annoying this time around. I realize she has some flaws or she wouldn't have ended up in the equivalent of purgatory, but I found her drunken behavior at the party downright disgusting. She has some self awareness about her flaws, but she takes too much pride in the fact that she annoys everybody. She doesn't seem to be doing anything to try to improve her situation so she might eventually ascend. I know she has a long way to go to redeem herself, and if and when she does ascend it would probably end the series, but I'd like to see her at least start to make some changes. I'd also like to see the HOA put more effort into solving the mystery of how she and her cat ended up with the supernaturals. I like the friendship that's forming as she forms a crime solving team.
What happens when you find a dead jinni in a hot tub at your welcome partt? This is the situation that Eloise comes across at her welcome party. Things gets murky when more than one person confesses to being responsible for the death. How will Eloise soft through the confessions and find the real culprit? I am absolutely loving this new series. Eloise and Jules make a odd pair of best friends but I love their interactions. I think they will become the best of friends. Cole and Eloise relationship is complicated and comes along with a lot of baggage. I hope they soon get together as I love their interactions. Fabulous read and can't wait to read the next book.
.. in a jacuzzi during Eloise's welcome party it's not the only bad thing to happen.. first there's the drinking, oh boy does she get drunk, and then there's the whole declaring your feelings to Cole thing too!
It wouldn't be so bad if he'd been interested but he's not and now Eloise doesn't know how to get over her embarrassment! So instead of working with Cole she's roped in Jules and Mitzi to act as consultants. The biggest concern is just how many people confess to having "killed" Akwan, by potion, tonic, boiling, etc.. now she just has to work out which one actually sent him to oblivion and who did it..
Homicide and Hot Tubs is the second book in the Divine Place Supernatural Series. The second book was as good as the first, maybe even better.
The resident human, Eloise, finds someone dead in a hot tub. Eloise is the Marshall know and its her job to figure out who did. Why are so many people confessing , LOL.
I absolutely love this series and the characters that are fun and unique supernatural beings.
Everyone, with the exception of Eloise, in Divine Place is supernatural. They still have lives, pasts which lead them to Divine Place instead of heaven. Eloise, the misplaced human, is trying to solve another obliteration, a jiinn, a magic genie. After Eloise makes a drunken pass at Cole, her demi-god deputy, she wants to go out of her way to avoid him, while trying to solve this murder. Thank God so many supernaturals are confessing to the crime. Read and enjoy!
I love Eloise. I think there's a bit of her in all of us if I'm honest. This time, she's trying to solve a murder with several culprits admitting to the crime. Her and her merry band investigate. On discovering the culprit, she opts to tackle them on her own, only she's not alone after all...
Our heroine is beset with people offering their confessions to a murder. The marshal is clueless about who the murder really was. And the story gets funny. To make matters worse, the marshal is the only human among a village of supernatural beings. Ok, I'll let you get to it.
Another great mystery for Eloise! Both Eloise and the reader learn more about Divine Place and some more of the supernatural characters who make it their home. There js also development in Eloise's relationships with friends, colleagues, and others in her new place, and it's nice to see her start really developing an afterlife. Enjoyable read!
Eloise is getting into the Groove of solving cases and living her best after life at Divine Place, this time the mystery is baffling in the amount of suspects it has and where it happened. Is nice to see her get her stride and even getting some sidekicks. Funny and irreverent as always.
Eloise is on the case again as Divine Place has another murder with multiple people claiming they did. With her team of helpers she sleuths her way to the killer. I can’t wait for the next one!
Eloise is developing a support circle of interesting characters. Those characters can really make or break a book like this. They really seem to work here. The interactions are growing in complexity and have a full dose of wit and snark. Have high hopes for the series.
I've said it before but I have read all of the books from this author. After the first one of this new series I wasn't sure if I would enjoy this one. But in an so happy that I did read it! It's witty and funny. I love the Jules character!
Too many suspects and confessions. Akwan is dead no doubt about it. Who killed him and why? Eloise is getting confessions from many different suspects. She has to filter through all of this and find the truth.
Fun read, good story line. I like that Eloise 's character is developing, because she is kinda of obnoxious. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
I really like this author but I just don't like this series. I do not find the main characters likable or I interesting. Her other books are far better.
