Abel Bancroft is an Interstellar MI6 assassin who doesn’t do relationships. He is perfectly content playing at his favorite BDSM club and picking up random hookups to fill his nights. When he’s asked to play babysitter to a bio-engineered super-human, he knows his carefully ordered life is about to be thoroughly interrupted.

Humans fear the Reapers and Mem has known it his entire life. Raised in a facility on the barren moon of Arethea outside the orbit of Era 3, freedom is only a word that he knows exists in the dictionary. New London is supposed to be his opportunity to have a life, so long as he can put up with the arrogant, sexy agent assigned to watch him.

If the missions don’t get them into trouble, the sparks between them definitely will. Being perfectly matched by the MI6 wasn’t supposed to lead to the two of them crashing into bed together but sometimes falling together is the only way to keep from falling apart.

[includes: one smartass assassin Daddy, one genetically engineered sexpot, & making a place of peace in an uncertain universe]

Yaaas. One of those happy discoveries: an Assassin story. Two men thrown together through their profession. These guys despite a difficult start, quickly discover that they really “get” each other.

We discover mostly off page that Mem is a Reaper, a bio engineered “splice” enhanced with the genes of a predatory animal and honed super human qualities. He is however considered less than human because of his origins, and is instead hired out on contract to fulfill missions and then returned to harsh and sterile conditions to await his next assignment. He has no human rights or autonomy due largely to the potential danger he and his 'brothers' present to humanity. This sets the scene for Mem to be temporarily assigned to Abel Bancroft a gifted and successful Interstellar MI6 assassin who can assess Mem's stability and adaptability for MI6 missions on a temporary assignment.

Mem having known very limited freedom until his latest assignment is riddled with insecurities that he mostly keeps to himself under a mask of bravado, but Abel is able to see behind his swagger and is up to the challenge of keeping Mem under control whilst also allowing him some freedom.

This book is so close to being a favourite read, but I’m holding it off from being shoved into that particular shelf (at least for the time being) because it was hard for me to reconcile Mem’s harsh existence with his sweet nature and how readily he adapts to a life of freedom. I would have expected a bit more of a struggle with this transition to be hones. I suppose it could be argued that what assists the transition to be so smooth is the kink dynamic between Abel and Mem that helps the younger assassin to adjust from institutionalised to functioning citizen. I for one was skeptical about the authenticity and apparent ease of transition.

Everything else about this novel I loved. Did I mention that it's got (a limited amount) of spaaaaace travel too? Yaaas.

The author created an amazing story with flair for light and shade and really interesting supporting characters. I love the banter. The dialogue in general is great and the world building too is fantastic. I would have liked more of that.

To be absolutely honest Daddy kink is not my thing. Despite my hesitancy the dynamic between Abel and Mem's daddy/boy interaction is really sweet. It builds from grudging respect to all out passion.

Mem’s use of “Daddy” seems more honorific and their burgeoning D/s relationship is hot. The chemistry between these guys is scorching. I was totally rooting for them and desperately hoping that they might find some way of continuing their relationship beyond the tight parameters of Mem’s contract lease to MI6.

This is the first book that I have read by the author and it won’t be the last. I have just over a week to wait until the release of a new title. From here on in Misha Adrik is going on my list of favourite authors. In fact I’m creating a new shelf especially so that I don’t forget.

There are one or two typos, and the occasional glitch where the wrong name is used but these minor distractions can be easily remedied. The pacing, the plot and the characters are fantastic and it is a rare and happy find to discover an author with such a gift for telling a story that enthralls me quite so quickly:
...............I tried a sample of the book. Loved it.
.......................Downloaded it on Kindle Unlimited. Loved it.
......................................Bought a copy to keep in my own library (something I rarely do).

Needless to say, I am looking forward to reading more in the series. A great deal more.

Now all I have to do is wait. Eyes watch impatiently!

It put me better into sleep mode than melatonin. One-dimensional characters, uninspiring plot and yawn-inducing sex scenes which I started skipping midway on.
The only thing I liked about this book is its cover. Good ideas though, could have been an interesting book.
This author's writing style is not for me.

Sci-fi BDSM M/M romance adventure

Sound confusing? Its really not. This book is set in the future. It involves a "romance" between a human and alien and their proclivities. There is lust and love and action and adventure. However, there a fair few typos which immediately pulled me out of the story.

Nice sci fi. Government assassin pair, one human and one genetically engineered. Daddy kink with hurt/comfort.

Yeah, this was really good.

I started it on my lunch break, actually—I’ve been reading books in the evening, but it obviously takes up some time, and since I’m not doing much else at lunch now (lockdown, baby!), it seemed like a good plan.

IT MAY NOT HAVE BEEN A GOOD PLAN.

Not that it was bad—just the opposite! I wanted to know how they’d stay together, how things were going to develop, what was going on with Mem’s brothers…

I got sucked in from, like, the first paragraph. Mem’s such an interesting character and his voice is amazing—taking on the agents moving him is hilarious and got me straight on his side. But then Abel’s the same; even though the first glimpse of him is from Mem’s point of view (afaik!), there’s still a massive difference in the way he speaks, in the way he’s described.

And there are so many good characters in this book. Gemini is a bit of an enigma but I’d like to know more about him. Same for all of Mem’s brothers, really. Abel’s parents are hilarious and if there happened to be an extra chapter floating around out there of another family gathering, I would snatch that up.

Mem and Abel’s instant chemistry was great, too. Abel knows exactly how to take Mem under his wing—though he’s careful not to push—and it leads to a relationship that it’s fun to watch blossom. There’s enough baggage from them both that it feels as realistic as it can and fits into the world Ashik has built.

Aside from the relationship…
The fact that this is sci fi means that there was so much more to explore. There’s all the stuff around splices, and Reapers, what that means for Mem and for Abel and for civilians, too. The addition of all Mem’s brothers was a great touch and, I assume, they’ll be featuring in later books in this same series. I hope so, anyway. I’d love to read more about Gem or the twins.

This book does feel, external-plot-wise, like it’s setting up for something bigger. We know about Mem as a Reaper, coming out of this, but I, at least, don’t have an especially clear view of why all these companies might be wanting to destroy their splice experiments, and how the Selvaggios all managed to escape. Again, this isn’t a problem for this book. It’s just more room for the external plot to grow into, so I’m excited to see where it might go.

A complete technical side note and not something I would usually bring up, but there were a few typos in this book. Again, it’s not something I’d bring up if it was just a couple, but I definitely noticed them in the text here. In no way do they take away from the story, of course, but if that’s something that bothers you, you might want to keep an eye out and see if the author ever uploads a re-checked version.

Brilliantly done!

It is refreshing to come across a new author that is gifted in crafting and telling a story. Misha Adrik explores the world of genetic engineering. In a world where genetically engineered individuals have no rights and are considered property, two assassins develop an extraordinary attraction towards one another. Both are agents for MI6 but one is human and one is not. The story asks the question can someone who has been created in a lab truly understand and experience love?

No matter how innovative and creative the story, an author must be able to draw in the reader, which Mr. Adrik does quite brilliantly. With his words, a very clear picture of the characters and story can be visualized. This is one of those books that generates an edge-of-your-seat experience which makes it almost impossible to put down. Kudos to Mr. Adrik for a job well done. I can’t wait to read more of his work.

I was browsing through Amazon when I came across this little beauty. I love mm sci-fi romance books but I’ve struggled finding authors in this genre.

Mem was sassy for a bio engineered super human. The author captured his vulnerability beautifully. There were times when his fears and insecurities would plague him and these moments were a constant reminder of how Reapers, to a degree, were misunderstood.

The daddy/boy aspect of the story caught me by surprise. Mem needed affection, care and love and Abel gave it to him in spades. Abel’s possessiveness towards Mem was sexy especially, when he went to Echo to stake his claim.

I really enjoyed this book. I adored Mem and Abel won my heart over by just loving him unconditionally.

Fun ready but sloppy editing

This book had a lot of potential. The characters are fun and the idea interesting. There are some interesting themes that could have been developed about engineering people and Dom/Sub romance, but the author didn’t take either too serious. The world building was weak . Would have liked to understand the future that felt a little too much like current culture in space.

Last this is one of the sloppiest digital book edits I have come across. I still enjoyed the story but it needs a good edit.

Great world building, enjoyable character development with a happy ending and I admire that some common sense was shown in the portrayal of the main relationship. Not super world shattering but a good read with a lot of my favorite kink and sci-fi tropes!
The version I read on Amazon had some basic grammar and spelling issues which were confusing but the quality otherwise kept me reading and the little hang ups got better by the middle.

A New Fan of Misha Adrik

I love the main characters Mem and Abel. Their edgy romance develops sweetly.
Love the underdog status of the Reapers and look forward to exploring more about
Mem's brothers. I recommend this book to anyone who's entertained by action, new worlds
and a bit of espionage. A fun, fast read.

This book fell a little flat for me. I like sci fi and I generally don't mind BDSM, but despite that this was a boring read for me. I did like the idea of it, and thought that it started off well. I found it interesting that Mem could turn off his humanity. But as the book went on, I just found my mind wandering. Maybe this just isn't the writing style for me.
