A new starship. An ancient alien artifact. Can a street-smart captain and undercover agent keep their mysterious cargo from falling into enemy hands? After one too many run-ins with his superiors, TSS Agent Joe Anderson is relegated to the Taran Empire's outer colonies to run undercover surveillance. The assignment seems tedious until Joe makes his way onto a newly leased cargo ship with Captain Iza Sundari.
Unfortunately for Iza, Joe, and the rest of the crew, the ship's former owner wants it back. As they try to stay one step ahead, the crew is forced to walk the fine line between survival and legality, with Joe torn between maintaining his cover and staying true to his oaths as a TSS Agent.
Joe soon learns that life in the outer colonies isn't what he'd been told in the TSS, and powerful players could threaten everything that the Taran Empire holds dear. An ancient, mysterious artifact seems to be at the center of their plans, and it's on board Iza's ship. With dangerous forces closing in, Joe puts his career on the line to protect Iza and her crew in their fight for freedom.

Before publishing the Bolaji Kingdoms and the Starship Hope series, T.S. Valmond was an off-Broadway interpreter, a missionary in Central America, and an actress on stages all over Minnesota.
Inspired by Browncoats, Trekkies, and the Jedi, T.S Valmond is determined to create warm and relatable characters with irresistible worlds readers can’t put down.
T.S. brings a full life of experience to her twisty adventures. If you like quirky families, out-of-this-world aliens, and a bit of heart and soul in your epic space opera tales you’ll want to read these stories with the whole family.
If you have read the Cadicle Universe, you are used to TSS Agents being heroes and the economics and industries held by the High Dynasty members. But, like Earth, there are those regions that you really don't visit, unless you know how to survive in a more wild west environment. They don't really like the Taran ruling class and attitudes toward the TSS varies between contempt and fear.
Captain Iza, having fought and struggled to the level of owning her own ship, while young, is strong, smart, and only slightly jaded. In doing the good deed of protecting what she thought was a tourist, she ends up rescuing the aggressor, a young man, by taking him on board; she is unaware of his many secrets. Those secrets along with the other aspects of the outer worlds are of interest to TSS Agent Joe, who is not a typical agent in his approach or political astuteness. When he takes passage on Cpt. Iza's ship, Joe has really stepped into what will become a *storm. He doesn't know it, but this situation may just save his career.
This the beginning of a new stand alone adventure situated in a part of the Cadicle Universe that we have barely glimpsed until now. With a strong female lead character carrying the baggage of being abandoned by her mother: a young and inexperienced agent, who is basically on probation: an even younger mysterious teen who is very much a con artist despite his high class roots; and a sentient android with a lot of quirks, we have an interesting, well-paced space adventure with good guys, bad guys, and a mystery.
A novel for young adults or adults of any age who like space adventure, this is a 5-star read. For those readers like me who simply discover they like an author's style and stories, if you enjoyed this, you may want to check out DuBoff's Cadicle series, which was my first exposure to this author, her contributions in Michael Anderle's Kutherian Gambit series, and her upcoming novels in M.D. Cooper's Aeon14 universe. I have no prior experience with T.S. Valmond as an author, but will be checking to see if there are other books by this author.

The first in a new series and a great beginning. Where the Cadicle series focuses on life in the structured military environment, Exile gives us a view of a more everyday life. It’s dirty, gritty, and full of honest (or not so honest) mistakes that make it fun. The characters are believable and an interesting mix of distinctive and varied backgrounds. At first it feels like a bit of an odd couple, but necessity makes for a forced collaboration and the group reluctantly rely on each other’s strengths to get them through a series of difficult situations.
I’m loving the Cadicle Universe created by A.K. Duboff. For those familiar with the Cadicle Universe, T.S. Valdond’s style blends well and adds a nice harmony. I recommend for anyone interested in space opera, cool technology, and odd couple pairings.
In true Cadicle universe style, this book has multiple layers of things going on. It’s a fast-paced ride with characters and situations that’ll keep you turning the pages until you’ve finished the story.
Familiarity with the mainline Cadicle universe books isn’t required to enjoy Exile, but readers who are familiar with the universe will appreciate the subtler details woven in.
This book was good. A little lackluster in the overall premise, I'm thinking picks up in the next installment. I'll be reading book 2 to find out.
The characters were REAL. I both loved and hated them all at times and was thankful none of them fell into the caricature of themselves like can sometimes happen. They grew and changed and softened and hardened when they needed to. Reminiscent of Firefly without being obvious about it, if you love space adventures that center around people and relationships, check this one out.
I always enjoy the strong but vulnerable female ship captain stories. The TSS is an interesting twist that would normally have me avoiding this series but as an AK fan I was not disappointed. Lots of other twists and turns to make things interesting. Definitely a “ more “ rating!
Outer space adventures with a diverse and mostly human crew. One of them is actually from Earth. Lots of opportunities for disaster that require creative problem solving. Enjoyable.
High crimes or misdemeanors the crew of Verity is charged with both. What shall they do? One path leads to destruction, another leads to life on the run. I liked the book.
Many twists and turns with well-developed characters. Dimensional shifts that leave a hint here and there of the deep and consequential underlying dynamics.
