This one was so much fun and from the beginning you see him jumping in the water and saving her and what she does and its so romantic and thrilling to read and you feel the tension between them and then the hot spring trip arranged by their grand mothers and its another awkward meet up but seriously its so fun and makes for an astonishing read but the best part is the moments between them and him confessing certain things to her and by the end them bonding and continuing this rental thing longer.

The twist with Ruka was so good and seriously her as a catalyst of "I know" leads to some amazing moments and tensions and seriously the writer plays it so well and keeps you guessing till the end until that epic twist and wow it changes the whole series.

Seriously this series has such cute moments but when tensions come in and drama being played its awesome and leads to some epic scenes!!

This was a fun volume.

We see the fallout of previous volume as Kazuya jumps to save his supposed GF and its fun and then the weird thing happens when he starts developing feelings for her and yeah they keep trying to break up which is funny but it never seems to workout and then the stuff with his friend Kuri and his GF Ruka happens and we see both of them go on a double date and maybe a massive twist might be happening and the revelations in the end change things perfectly and I am excited to read the future volumes!

Its a fun series and its great and the way the mangaka just continues to put them in awkward situation and introduce more players and make their life more complicated is making me love this series so much! <3

So much happened in this volume!!! Like I'm sorry, it still doesn't feel real!!! I don't even know where to begin!!!
Chizuru is still my girl!!! The beginning of this manga was so good and I'm glad it started right where we left off in volume 2 because I was worried that we would have to wait a bit to see what happened.
I am still not a fan of Mami but I am holding out that she will have some character development... hopefully, because I can't with her -.-
Also! Can we just take a moment to appreciate Kazuya's and Chizuru's grandmothers! Those two are so sneaky! But I love it! haha
I'm not 100% sure how I feel about Ruka yet... she's definitely something though and I don't hate as or right now so, that's a good thing lol.
I really love seeing everyone trying to figure out their emotions and feelings towards certain characters and I can't wait to see how it will all play out.

When we last left things off, Chizuru had gone a little bit overboard, literally, and Kazuya had chased after her. In the wake of the boating incident (sorry), not much has changed. So here’s some hot springs and another new character.

I guarantee that half the reason I keep with this series is the art. Even if nothing blows the doors off like last time, this is hands down one of the most enjoyably drawn manga I read. There is a scene with Mami sitting on her bed and the level of detail, with her toes curling and bunching up the sheets, is astounding.

Okay, it’s probably three quarters of the reason because the story this time around is a total snooze. Sure, the boat rescue lets Chizuru see Kazuya in a new light, but he should act like a human being without being forced into it by life or death situations.

Despite the obnoxious use of tropes, I do like what transpires during the hot springs chapter. It’s very much a ‘cake and eat it too’ scenario, since it gets Chizuru in a yukata, but Kazuya actually gives an inkling he might get things right at some point. His little speech does quite a bit to humanize him a bit more. I also like the way it subverts what you’re expecting in the hot springs proper.

The rock climbing section is less successful, featuring Kazuya back to his male gaze self and the introduction of a character who I don’t think brings much of anything to the table, but I guess we’re heading into harem territory now? Sure feels like it and it’s a development this story doesn’t need, but one I’m definitely expecting down the road.

Then there’s THAT chapter.

Everybody, I will take a stand and say that masturbation is okay. It’s totally fine and a part of the human experience. I will take a second stand and say that I don’t need a chapter of a book devoted to the lead character’s fantasies while showing him doing the deed.

I get the point - the use of the panels from previous chapters couldn’t be more obvious as a metaphor for what’s going on. But it’s just so... uh... ham fisted... and not necessary. We already know that the dynamics between Chizuru and Kazuya are changing, so this just feels like an excuse to draw Mami getting it on with Kazuya.

2.5 stars. I don’t hate this series, but this volume was certainly a far cry from what enjoyment I typically get from it, save the art, but the art’s not quite enough to save IT. I’ll round this up on the hope that this is an outlier rather than a trend, but it only gets the benefit of the doubt once.

I'm getting into this series more and more. There's a nice sense of progression, and the author (along with an usual team of assistants) has the good sense to keep troubling his main characters as often as possible, which through witnessing how they deal with the conflict it gives us a good sense of who those characters are as people.

At the end of the previous volume, the two protagonists, one a mostly irrational and dumb college freshman guy and the other an escort he keeps tangling in his life, were sharing a ride on a ferry as the last thing they were going to do together, but then the increasingly sick and dizzy escort ended up falling overboard. The protagonist jumped after her without thinking. At the start of this volume she regains consciousness on some beach rocks, only to notice that the guy is unconscious next to her. She starts berating him for doing something so stupid as risking his life for an escort (maybe a hint into her self-worth; we also never got any sense of her family life beyond her grandmother, so maybe her parents are gone). When she notices that he isn't breathing, she does the CPR thing until he wakes up. One would think that having been out for a significant amount of time would have given him brain damage, but the guy is such an idiot that maybe it wouldn't be noticeable.

In any case, when they rejoin their friends, the friends are awed by the fact that he had saved her life, and they start looking at both protagonists as the kind of couple all of them would aspire to be/have. Both protagonists get sent to different hospitals to rest for a bit. The escort seems out of it, unwilling to look him in the eye.

Both live door to door in the same apartment building, so they speak again when they get home. He apologizes for causing all the trouble that ended up with her almost dying, and promises that he'll pay her for the extended date. She avoids looking at him. It's implied that they aren't going to have any dates from then on. With the protagonist alone in his apartment, we got one of the best scenes of this series so far, the most idiosyncratic "oh shit, I'm in love with this girl" scene that I can recall. His friends have uploaded the beach pictures, and looking at his ex in a bikini makes him hard. He starts masturbating while imagining himself fucking his manipulative ex, but hazy memories of the escort being nice interfere, and in the end he comes to a memory of his next door neighbor just smiling at him. If that's not love, I don't know what it is. He's realized it as well, and he's troubled by how difficult his romantic life has become.

They also attend the same college. The next time he sees her, although the escort is wearing her regular person disguise, he stares at her nervously, which only troubles her as they are not supposed to know each other when she's her regular self. She takes him aside and berates him for it. She's surprised that he's not throwing blame her way, but just apologizing. He's overwhelmed by how fast his heart is beating interacting with just her plain clothes self. She ends up telling him to be more careful from then on, and regarding their fake relationship to just find the courage to tell his friends that they broke up, because they would forget about them both having been a thing soon enough. She's way too nonchalant with the guy who saved her life, no matter how much of an idiot he is.

Some time after, the protagonist's grandmother invites him to some hot springs resort for some reason. It ended up being a ploy by both protagonists' grandmothers, who are friends, for them to share a room and get to fucking already. Both protagonists, particularly the escort, are troubled by this development, but she figures that they might as well enjoy the meal and some drinks that have been paid for. He realizes that she is no longer concerned about him seeing her without makeup, and also doesn't feel the need to act as when she's working. They end up sleeping in the same room. He makes some monologue about how he wishes to keep seing her, because just interacting and talking to her is making him want to become a better person. She says fine, she'll allow him to keep renting her.

One of those afternoons they come across one of his college friends, a mostly stereotypical Japanese nerd, full of himself for no reason. He announces that he's gotten a girlfriend as well, and tangles the protagonists into a double date. The escort is fine with this development at this stage of their relationship, whatever it is. The date is centered around doing some rock climbing indoors, and the nerd's girlfriend turns out to be some cute girl that the author had introduced earlier on with a panty shot. She seems generally cold with the nerd, and in a story in which rental girlfriends have already been introduced as a thing, it's more likely than not that she's one as well. The protagonist's escort is having fun climbing, but the cute girl takes her aside and opens up about her guess that the coprotagonist is an escort as well. The coprotagonist gets all nervous and runs back to the protagonist to figure out how to deal with this troublesome development. If the nerd figured out that she's an escort as well, all of their friends at college would discover it. The protagonist manages to excuse her to leave.

The protagonist wants to speak with the nerd's girlfriend in private, so he accompanies them until they part ways. He then follows her, only to realize that she had been expecting him. She berates him for being the kind of guy who hires escorts, that he could only have done so for superficial reasons. Although she tries to leave, he follows her in a demanding way that for someone like him constitutes character development. He ends up breaking the girl's fall after she tripped on some stairs, and she allows him to have a conversation on a nearby coffee shop. He opens up about having hired the escort's services because he felt lonely after having been dumped, but that he knows her now to be a good person who wouldn't deserve to be outed and have her life ruined, so he begs for this cute girl's silence. Shortly after she reveals the telegraphed truth that she's an escort as well.

That's where this volume ends. At this point of the story, this being a romantic comedy, what you have to look forward to is both protagonists' increased closeness, as well as someone in the protagonist's group possibly being outed as hiring escorts, which could lead to others realizing that the protagonists are in such a relationship as well.

This is an odd series for a romantic comedy, given that stuff like breaking up with the romantic interest and intending never to see each other constitutes progress and character development, so in that sense it's a fresh take on a genre that is often done by the numbers. I also get tired easily of fiction, but this series is making me want to jump into the next volume immediately, so it's doing something right as far as I'm concerned.

A new player enters the game!

This one is actually more sweet than last two volumes. Kazuya finally realizes he might not like Mami as much as he thought. Instead he finally realizes he might actually like Chizuru more. So he tries to figure his feelings out and begs her to be his rent-a-girlfriend some more. But then a new girl enters and she might have her own secret!

This is sweeter volume which I liked, and also pretty funny at times. It really helps the art is some fantastic stuff with great comedy moments. I'm really starting to like Chizuru more and more as a character and feel her trying her hardest to make it.

Overall, another really fun and solid volume. I'll be continuing to read this one. A 4 out of 5.

I stay caught up to the current Japanese chapters, but I'm doing a re-read of these #1 to get the official translation #2 to support the release and #3 because the current arc has climax energy. A lot has happened and it feels like the manga could conclude within the next few months. So as I've been doing my re-read, I take notes. I had more notes on this volume than the first two, which is very good, it means things are happening on more than just a surface level. Of most note is that we get great inner turmoil from Chizuru, because at the beginning of the volume, we get her inner dialogue, which doesn't happen a whole lot, and in it she is focused purely on being a rental gf to Kazuya. But on a couple occasions throughout this volume, we get very distinct body language from her. She glares at him when he's checking out Ruka. When she offer Kazuya her drink later, she blushes just a little, but both when she offers it, and when she says it's not a big deal for her and not to overthink it, she refuses to make eye contact, which is abnormal for her.

We also get Ruka, who is a favorite of mine. We don't really get any of the reasons *why* in this volume, but she is here now.

Mami does NOT like that she got stood up lol. This volume however does show that she genuinely has feelings for him and isn't out to cause chaos for just the hell of it.

Overall, it's a great volume. Next volume is one of, if not the favorite for me in the first half of the manga, hopefully I get to it soon.

More fun in this great comedy of errors!

Last volume, Chizaru had passed out and fallen overboard, and our man dove in after her. He saved her, but nearly drowned in the process. She had to perform CPR on him. After a trip to the hospital, they both head home. Later, our boi is ordered to accompany his beloved grandmother to a hot springs resort. The whole drive there, our guy's dear ol Dad, who previously saw his son giving Chizaru a wad of cash, well, he keeps thinking about it, and is not happy about it. At the resort, it is revealed that our boi is getting his own room. So, he goes to settle in, and sitting on the floor, the bathroom door suddenly opens... and in a firm fitting yukata, out steps Chizaru! Seems their grammas are forcing the two to be together. Much hilarity ensues. Later on, Our man and Chizaru are roped into a double date with one of their fellow classmates. The gf of the friend is a knock out. Total hottie. At one point, she and Chizaru are alone, and the new girl confronts Chizaru and declares she's a rental girlfriend. Chizaru quickly recovers, and acts stupid, and insists she's our boi's real gf. After a day of rock climbing, our man is confronted by the new girl, about Chizaru being a rental gf. Our boi, in a panic, follows her, pleading her to not tell his buddy, as the buddy will tell everyone at school, AND dear sweet grandmama! After some heated discussions, the new gf reveals her secret... she too, is a rental girlfriend!!!

Je te fais une PhoenixBiz;

I don't know what it is, but this volume was kind of meh to me. Mizuhira continues to be best girl, as you do, but honestly she was the best part of this whole volume. Kazuya declaring that he wants to change is great and all, but he doesn't have a game plan on how to do so and it really shows. Also, the accidental pervert scenes with him and Ruka were so unnecessary. I know this is an ecchi series, but if he's going to have moments like these with every significant female character my brain might explode out of frustration. Speaking of Ruka, I don't particularly like her (all she really did was be loud and obnoxious to Kazuya) and I'm sensing her inclusion is just to offer the "bad" side of rental girlfriends. Hopefully her character will grow on me, but I have my doubts.

So, yeah. Those are my thoughts. I'm praying volume 4 will be better because I do think this series has potential, but unfortunately this was pretty underwhelming.

This volume was better than the last one.
but since I watched the anime I already knew the plottwist at the end, that Ruka is also a rental gilrfriend. So that wasn't a surprise for me. The plot was this time also more enjoyable since kazukun wasn't being as stupid. Because in the last volume his behavior made me feel so much second hand embarrassment and just shows how truly pathetic he is. So I was happy to see that in this volume he didn't annoy me as much. I still think mizuhara is the absolute best character in the series so far next to kibe. She deserves better than him and she is basically an angel for putting up with his antics.
The art in this volume is great as always, but I do have to say that so far I prefer the anime above the manga since I feel like I have to spend less time having to put up with the absolute loser that kazukun is so far. But I am kinda sad tho that the manga so far hasn't been as fun as the show was for me. So this volume for me is 2.75 stars.

Anime coming July 2020! You can rent a girlfriend, but can you buy love? Reeling from a bad breakup, Kazuya rents the beautiful, polite Chizuru for a date. But rock bottom might be so much lower than he thought! Chizuru is much more than the pretty face and sweet demeanor he thought he'd bargained for...

After rereading the first two volumes, which felt slow on reread, and then reading this volume, I find I am feeling this series to be very average, and so I don't plan on continuing.
It is cute enough, and the characters are interesting, the story just doesn't appeal to me so much anymore and the pacing just feels slow.

From the first 3 volume, I think it has the best and funniest story!
It was fun to see Kazuya's imagination to have sex with his ex girlfriend.
It was fun to see Chizuru speaking with Kazuya's grandma in bathroom wear nothing.
It was fun to see that Kazuya and Chizuru fail multiple times to end their weird relationship.
It was fun to read this volume!

I watched the anime and decided to pick up and read the manga. The characters are funny and the plot is really good. The only character that I don’t like is Mami because she broke up with Kazuya for no reason and that’s not right. I can’t wait to see what happens after where the anime left off.

Well it was packed with more "action", but I felt like it was a bit to plain on some parts.

Nice to conclude a new rental girlfriend.. BUT somehow the story felt a bit plat for me?
Maybe reading it at a bad time?
