My brain hurts trying to read this. This was bad even for a short story. The writing and dialogue was soooooo bad. This is an actual example: "I'm going to put my cock inside you now." Sexy right? Anyway, it was so bad I couldn't even finish the last 20 pages. Sheesh I know people want to be on ARC teams but it's supposed to be an honest review don't over hype crap to suck people into reading drivel. Sorry rant over. I haven't read anything else by this author so I don't know if this was just a one off or what.
This could’ve been great but the male had sex with other women after knowing the female bear was his mate. It didn’t matter that she left. He should’ve never been able to even get it up for another woman after knowing his mate. She keep herself a virgin. He should’ve waited for her. Been unable to be attracted to another. But he screwed others and this was a disgrace to mates and paranormal romance. Do it like Suzanne wright. The correct way where mates are loyal to the bone once they’ve seen their mate the very first time. Never even thinking of others and never wanted sex with others than their mate.
Eve a lawyer/omega bear shifter, is prosecuting a well known criminal Bull Payne when a juror writes a note that Bull knows what she is and to go to the fire station for help. Afraid, she excuses herself and goes to the firehouse and they call up a guy to help her. When she sees her old childhood love from her clan she runs. Owen who is now alpha of his clan and the commanding officer of a elite military unit called MASK has been after Bull. When Owen is called in and finds that the prosecutor is Eve his old love, he goes chasing after her. When Owen catches up to her can her keep her save from Bull? This was enjoyable read with in-depth info as to why Eve left the clan along with steamy romance and battles to keep me turning the pages in this ARC via Booksprout.
Associate Prosecutor, Eve Johnson, is proud of who she is and what she has accomplished. Managing on her own since fleeing her home at 18, she has become a woman of standing in a man’s world. But she is not an ordinary woman—she is a bear shifter—an Omega—a female who is always fertile and who is known for demonstrating a docile and obedient disposition. So, her flight from her clan was not a path without personal cost, challenging her very nature. When she left her clan, not only did she say “no” to the will of her family and clan, she also was saying “no” to her best friend and young sweetheart, Owen Brady who had been named as her intended mate—a lifelong pledging to each other arranged by the clan. But, no one really understood—not Owen or her family or her clan. She had a vision of who she could become, and she could only become that person outside of the shifter world and its expectations of submission for all females, especially Omegas. But to fit into her human world, she has had to hide who and what she really is—an Omega bear shifter. So, for the last 10 years she has artificially controlled her Omega bear shifter instincts through strong drugs utilized to control her scent and additional hormones used to suppress and inhibit her time of “heat,” and even control her desire to shift.
Now, at the pinnacle moment of her legal career as she delivers the closing arguments in the trial of Bull Payne, Denver’s biggest thug, who controls a variety of criminal activities, a juror interrupts Eve’s final remarks with life altering news: the juror has detected the scent of Eve as an Omega shifter and has also recognized by his scent that Bull Payne is a shifter. The most fearsome realization of all is that if the juror could detect Eve’s scent, as a shifter, Bull could also detect it and would be after Eve, both as an enemy and as a very desirable Omega. So, in the middle of her closing arguments, Eve realizes that she must retire from the trial and follow the advice of the juror—flee to safety by going to the fire station and seeking the assistance of the fire chief.
Upon her request, aid is made available to the desperate Eve. The fire chief turns to MASK the secret military organization which utilizes the unique abilities of shifters to assist in a variety of law enforcement and military operations. But, when Eve recognizes the local MASK unit is led by none other than her former sweetheart and named mate, Owen Brady, she once again flees.
Jade Alters offers her readers an exciting, suspenseful tale filled with danger and passion. Omega Eve and Alpha Owen confront both physical and emotional challenges as former friends turned adversaries. And, both soon realize that they must put aside their past differences if they are to survive the present. Additionally, Eve must confront the natural and undeniable connection that still exists between herself and Owen which she fled in the past.
The shifter world that Alters creates is filled with many of the same challenges faced in the non-shifter world—individuals who must constantly confront the expectations placed on them by friends and family that seem in direct opposition to the individual’s will. And, as in Eve and Owen’s world, time often allows for life’s experiences to open minds and hearts to the needs of those whom we love.

Jade Alters has written a 5-star book that has Eve and Owen dealing with their feelings for each other and Owen trying to keep Eve safe. Eve is a deputy prosecutor and a bear shifter. While she is doing her closing arguments, a juror starting waving her arm and in the other, she held a note saying "I can tell what you are and so can Bull" He will come after you. Go to the firehouse, they can help. Eve asks to approach the bench and tells the judge a lie, he excused her. She drives to the fire station and asks to speak to the chief. She tells the chief what happened and he said he needed to make a call. Eve has been using blockers and suppressants for years so no other shifter could tell she was one also. Eve makes a few calls and finds out that both the blockers and suppressants lose their effectiveness after 5 years. As she is thinking about what to do the senses that are part of her bear start coming back and she feels another bear around. She looks out the window and is shocked to see Owen. She was to become his mate before she left her clan 10 years before. She is not going to allow him to take her back, so she does what she has to and leaves. The chief and Owen walk back in the station and the chief tells Owen she's gone. Owen asks if he had someone watching and the chief said yes outside. Owen said he would find her and the chief told him that she is an omega bear shifter so he needs to be careful. Owen and the chief find Eve's clothes in the women's locker room and Owen picks them up and inhales, he also asks if the chief has a picture of her. The chief gives him a file and inside he finds a picture. It is of the love of his life, best friend and his future mate Eve Johnson. She ran away 10 years before because she did not want to be told what to do and not have a choice in how she lived her life. Owen goes after Eve after he goes to the police and gets some help. He finds her not too long after she leaves and he tells her he is going to help her. Can Eve let the past go and give Owen a chance? Will Owen be able to keep Eve safe and get his mate to stay this time? This was a book that will grab you from the first page and not let go until the last. I would recommend this book to anyone.

This book is amazing! The story of Eve and Owen is one of second chances and finding love again. Eve and Owen are bear shifters. Ten years ago, they were to be mated. Eve is an omega but couldn't stand having her life being dictated and ran away from Owen and her clan to live her own life, full of her own choices. Ten years later, she's a deputy prosecutor and during a very important trial of a man named Bull, a juror informs her by note that she is in danger. Bull is a shifter and knows that Eve is one too. She is told to go to the fire station, that they can help her. She goes and it is there that she finds out the suppressants she's been using to mask her omega scent are no longer working. When the chief calls in help to keep her safe and she notices that it's Owen, she's off and running again. Owen catches her and soon the two find themselves in each other's arms. Their peace doesn't last as they are caught by two of Bull's men and taken hostage. It seems Bull wants Eve for his own. Owen manages to shift after being tranqualized and he and Eve manage to take out the three men that captured them. They make their way to Owen's cabin in the woods where they soon find out just how real the danger to Eve is. Bull has escaped from jail and is after her. She and Owen are getting closer to each other and end up setting a trap for Bull. He arrives at the cabin to capture Eve only to be defeated in the end by Owen. Eve and Owen confess their love to each other and Eve agrees to be not only his mate but his wife.

This book dealt with two subjects that I've read several times before, namely a BBW heroine and alpha/omega dynamics, and it handled both in a way that I enjoyed. Eve is a full-figured gal but doesn't dwell on it in a "poor me" way, nor is it so brushed aside that she might as well be a size 0 for all we can tell. I like that she is both confident and a little unsure, which feels like a natural mix to me.
I like that both Eve and Owen are affected by their being an omega and an alpha respectively but at the same time you can feel that they love each other beyond that, it's not just a matter of hormones and pheromones and such. I enjoyed spending time in both of their heads, getting both of their p.o.v.'s as the story unfolded. I wouldn't have minded if the heat portion would've lasted a little longer (that's just me, lol) but at the same time, I again liked the emphasis being on the fact that it was love, not a trick of hormones that ultimately had brought them together.
Also, on a more trivial note, I thought the cover was really gorgeous. So many books with BBW heroines don't show that fact on the cover (basically using a thin model and we're just supposed to ~believe~ she's the curvy girl we're reading about). This cover would've caught my eye just for this fact alone, that it's daring to represent the actual main character as she's described.
I did enjoy reading this a lot and will be on the lookout for more from this author! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
An omega who has escaped her fate. An alpha who has learned to live with the loss of his mate. A murderer who has discovered her secret.
Eve left her mountain home to keep from becoming a baby maker for her clan. She was in love with the man who she was supposed to mate with, but that didn't stop her from wanting more from her life. She went to college and got her law degree and now works as a deputy prosecutor. In the middle of her closing statement for an important trial, she gets a mysterious message that tells her the defendant knows what she is and where she can go to find help. She hadn't realized that Bull Payne, Denver's biggest thug, was a shifter or that her scent suppressor was no longer working, but she knew enough to run. Unfortunately, the man sent to keep her safe was her former fiance, and so she ran again. There was no way she was letting him return her to the small town where they both were born. It just so happens that Owen is a better chaser than she is a runner. He is also still crazy about her, but he knows she isn't ready to hear it. His main mission is to protect her, not to bed her but all this is for naught when she suddenly goes into heat. Now he is her protector in more ways than one because an omega in heat is a call to the wild for all bears within her vicinity. They will have to get past him first.

Eve has living as a human, trying to forget the shifter side.
Eve was a tough assistant DA. She worked hard for many years To succeed to her position that she's in currently , The only thing that she was missing was her shifter side of her body. In the courtroom as she was facing to give a closing statement on her case, by 1 of her assistants waving a piece of paper In the air, she could read, she was a shifter; and so was that dependent! She knew she had to get out of there fast she needed to find somewhere to go! This was madness! She excused herself from the judge, and let the other part of her team work on it this case. She drove carefully to the fire station which she knew the chief was a shifter as well , hopefully he had some kind of suggestions for her. Owen got a phone call from a local fire chief, that said he needed some assistance in something that came up , I guess he wasn't going to get the time off that he wanted. Eva was watching out the window as a familiar face decided to pull up. Out walks the one person that she hasn't been seen in over 10 years! That was her mate! She was sure of it, now she knew she had to get away from him, before he saw her. Was this the right decision, could she get away from him second time? Reading this book in the series, had to be detailed about the past, before any future could develop again, if it was going to happen.
This is one of those books that you wish didn’t end, I got so swept up in Eve’s and Owens story about love that has no bounds or time limits to it , it’s just fate in its raw form. Eve is a prosecutor and is trying a big case when a juror holds up a sign that nobody can see but me telling me that she can tell I’m a bear shifter and a omega and so is the defiant a bear alpha shifter and he wants me and to save myself go to the fire station to get help from the captain. Not long after that I’m now on the run with my old clan member and best friend and would be mate had I not run away 10yrs ago Owen Brady and I think he is more hotter now then before and I’m having trouble keeping my hands to myself and mind out of the gutter and now I find out that he is the Alpha of our clan and has made changes to help the women and the omegas get better chances since I left and he listened and understands why I did what I did and makes him more attractive then ever. Bull Payne is a bear shifter like me and has hidden in the human world using black market suppressants like I did but now he knows who I am because they are not working anymore and my omega sent is calling to him and he thinks he can own me, never going to happen. This is a awesome book and a must read.

She dreamt of having her own life, going to college, and getting a degree. So once she turned 18, she ran from her clan towards her dream life. Now, 10 years later, she is working with the district attorney office. In the middle of a trial against a big crime boss (who is also a shifter), she finds out she's been exposed and goes in search of help. Enter Owen, leader of a military shifter team. Owen has been tagged to help Eve, which he has no problem agreeing to. Not until the two meet that we see they were young lovers in the clan Eve escaped from 10 years ago. This was a fun read. I was surprised by their past history, but it added a layer that they both had to grow through. It wasn't an insta-love story. It was a story where both characters had a chance to grow and see the growth in each other. They both had to see their past thtough the other person's eyes. With both Owen and Eve learning about each other, they both could appreciate the changes in each other. This is a quick weekend read, with fast paced action and a lot of heat.
I absolutely enjoyed reading this fascinating bear shifter romance with a “second-chance” undertone. I found the plot to be well-written & quite suspenseful. The characters are well-developed & strong-willed with interesting reactions to some of the situations they find themselves in. There is: a feisty female omega bear shifter & competent lawyer (Eve) is prosecuting a criminal thug (Bull Payne) & receives a tip-off from a juror that Bull knows what she is & to go for help at Fire Station which she duly does only to discover a old childhood friend & teenage crush (Owen) who is now the alpha of the clan so she does the next best thing (to her) & runs again but Owen is a dominant alpha male who is determined to protect & if possible claim her, a military alliance of shifters (MASK), mates, drama, intrigue, suspense, humor, secrets, action, adventure, danger, threats, devious plans, confrontations, conflict, violence, warnings, memories, discovery distrust, disagreements, surprises, heat issues, determination, compromises, love, contentment, some steamy scenes & a very, happy conclusion.
Eve was born an omega bear shifter. She resented what her life would be in her clan. A life as a mate, and always protected, decisions about her life made by her mate and clan alpha and elders. At 18 she ran, leaving behind her best friend and mate. 10 years later she has lived as a human, is a deputy prosecutor with the district attorney 's office. The mob boss she is prosecuting, turns out to be a bear shifter. He collects omegas, he wants Eve. So she runs, and finds herself under the protection of the man she abandoned, her best friend and mate, Owen. Owen was devistated when Eve disappeared. The he was angry. Finally he worked to move on. He joined the army and is now alpha of his team and clan. Now Eve is in need of his team's protection. All those feeling he put in the past are back. His bear doesn't want to loose their mate again. Eve is torn by her attraction to Owen and the life She as built away from the clan. Liked Owen, Eve, no so much. Loved Owens well thought out proposal, sweet and romantic. Enjoy the B movie vibe to the story.
Eve Johnson, an omega bear shifter, did not want to be controlled by a mate and decided to run away. She became a lawyer in the human world and used chemicals to hide her shifter nature. When she was prosecuting a case, a juror got word to her that she knew what she was and that Bull, the vicious criminal, would also know and come after her. The note said to get to the firehouse to be helped. The judge released her and she ran, only to find Owen, the alpha she ran from years ago, was there. Once more, she had to escape. But this time she has more than one male coming after her. Can she get away again? Will she be caught? Will she give Owen a second chance to be her mate and could he keep her safe? And now that she is in heat, can she actually escape the males who will be driven to capture her?
Don’t miss this exciting story line that will capture the reader’s attention right from the start. The characters are good and the story moves at a quick pace. The book is well-written and worth reading.
Great story. I love shifter stories & I love second chance stories so this is the perfect book for me. Eve was an Omega but left her home & clan not wanting to be anybody mate but whilst in court working on a high profile case one of the jury made her aware that the guy she was trying to put away knew she was a Shifter telling her where to go for help. When she got there the person who was tasked to help her was Owen the boy now a grown Alpha male she left 10yrs ago who was the last person she wanted to help her until she had no choice. Even thought they hadn't seen each other there was still an attraction & sexual chemistry between them that neither wanted to admit & give into. The guy who she tried to jail had escaped & was now after her & Owen was going to do everything he could to protect her, there was a lot of fighting & drama to fight through before either of them could admit any feelings they had for each other. I loved this story & was hooked til the end.

Eve is a prosecutor and during her case she learns from a juror that the guy she trying to put in jail is a bear shifter and that he knows that she's an omega. Eve left her home because she was being sold off like a possession to be bred on. Now she has to leave again and she's not looking forward to it. She was sent somewhere to get help however once she is there she sees Owen the shifter she cared for and was promised to so she tries to take off. Only he sees her and isn't about to lose her again. Sparks fly between them and soon Eve gives into Owen and they have sex. But the danger was over because she is still being hunted and goes in heat at the worst possible time. Will Eve let Owen claim her as his mate? What will they do about those hunting her?
This is a great story that once I started it I couldn't put it down. The chemistry between them is off the charts hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend it to any book lover.

Eve and Owen were best friends growing up. Then they became a bit more. When Eve learns she is to be mated without any choice in the matter, she ran away. Now she is an accomplished lawyer working in the DA's office, in the middle of a high profile case. Problem, the defendant is a bear shifter alpha mob boss. Nobody had any idea he was a shifter. Just like Eve, he uses suppressors to hide his scent and now he wants revenge. She seeks help and who shows up, but Owen. He is part of a military group that handles all kinds of problems and protects innocents and humans. He never understood why she ran or why being an omega was so awful to her. She tries to explain and he tries to understand, but it will take more than just talk to make them understand. I love the way Owen is so easy going and tries so hard to actually hear what she is saying and really understand. This is a really great book and I am really liking this new series! I requested an advanced reader copy from Booksprout and am under no obligation to leave this review.
4.35 stars This is the first book I have read by the author. Eve is an omega bear shifter who ran away from her clan to become a lawyer and live her life on her own terms. She is prosecuting a case against Bull Payne, a major criminal, when she is surprised by a message from a juror stating that her secret is exposed. She flees to the firehouse to get help when she unexpectedly sees the last person she wants from her childhood. Owen is an officer with MASK, a military unit, and the alpha of the clan where Eve grew up. He has been after Bull to no avail. Upon his arrival at the firehouse, he is taken aback by the scent of his lost love and goes chasing after her. Can Owen protect Eve from Bull? Is Eve willing to give Owen a second chance? This is an interesting storyline that flows nicely. It is filled with intrigue, steam and well-rounded characters that give as good as they get. Eve is told that the defendant is a bear shifter and is aware that she is an omega that he collects. Omega Bear Shifter Eve Johnson is the Deputy Prosecutor of Denver and is in the middle of her closing argument when one of the jurors hands her a note. The note informs her that the juror is aware that she is an omega bear shifter and that the supposed human criminal mastermind on trial is a bear shifter too and he knows and collects omegas. It advises her to go to the fire station and ask for help and they will be able to provide it. Claiming sudden illness she heads for the fire station and asks to speak to the fire chief. He listens then calls in help but when she sees him talking to Owen Brady her childhood friend and teenage crush from the clan she ran from she hastily leaves and drives away.

Eve is a bear shifter Omega who ran away from her Clan and her promised mate ten years ago. She wanted to rule her own life and went to school to become a prosecutor. She has managed to stay hidden until now. Owen was Eve’s mate and suffered after she left. He is now Alpha to his Clan and leader of his military group with MASK. He is called in to help an Omega bear shifter and is surprised when he sees who it is. They both have a past they need to work through and on top of that they have a mob boss after Eve. Wow! What a fantastic story. I loved the tension between Eve and Owen and how they try to resolve their past, sometime successfully sometimes not! I absolutely loved this book and hope the other MASK teammates will have their story too. I received this as an ARC and I am leaving an honest review.
This book has a bit of everything thrown in one melting pot. One high profile case turned into protection program and high-speed chase amidst the omegaverse universe. Not to mention there were also some values and lessons that were trying to be transferred here; things like equality and girl power.
At times, it seemed a lot to take in. I found myself trying to catch up with the issues and things that this story wanted to represent. All in all, the plot was pretty decent, considering the complexity of all those elements. But somehow I found that it was a little bit dragging in the middle. I like how the book potrayed how mentally strong and independent the h was but also still vulnerable in terms of relationship and admitting weakness. I guess her complexity and how the H was able to accomodate and being a good companion was what made this book interesting.
Well written fast paced story full of action, healing and heat
This was quite an exciting read, full of action, courage, rekindling a past love and a bad guy that just doesn't quit. Eve had been hiding the fact she was a shifter for about 10 years when it became apparent that she was only a womb to her clan. Unfortunately, Owen didn't truly listen when she spoke of her distaste of this fact, or when she asked him to leave with her. Both feel rather betrayed but after a ton of communication, trust is rebuilt, along with some sexy times ;), so they could unite against the gangster looking to get his revenge. This story had all the depth, emotions and steam you can expect from a Jade Alters story and I really enjoyed the reading ride.
This is a great second chance tale! Eve is giving closing arguments in a trial when she is told by a juror that they know what she is as does the defendant, sho is also a shifter. She is told to go to the local firestation for help! Once there she encounters Owen, an old flame that she ran from 10 years previously and this sets off a chain of events leading to a showdown! A good read, but then most of the books from this particular author are! She develops her characters well and the book flows well with chapters in the varying points of view, which I find works for me! I enjoyed this immensely and look forward to more from the author!!

Who is Eve? What does she do for a living? What is she? Where is she from? Why did she leave? Where is she now? Who is Owen? What job does he have in town? Where is he from? Oh my, what I learned about the fire chief made the hair on my arms stand up. Oh, Eve is about to either be really happy or raging mad. How do Eve and Owen know one another? Who is Bull? What happens when they get ready to get to safety? The movie title's that Eve and Owen toss out are funny! Read and see what happens with the feisty Eve!

Eve was an omega and Owen was always her best friend and thought they would mates one day, but Eve wouldn't live her life as omega and surrender. She ran away from her shifter bear clan and made of life of her own working for the DA's office. She worked hard to get where she is now and nothing was going to stop it. Except now in a filled court room prosecuting Bull one of the jurors lets her know that Bull knows she a shifter and is out to get her. Leaving immediately she didn't realize her life would spiral out of control and be back with Owen and fighting for their lives. In the end they both get the HEA.

I absolutely loved this one. It's a great shifter/ second chance romance. I loved Eve who refuses to allow others to control her life despite her status as an omega. Owen is also a touching character; very much the dominant alpha male but capable of hearing and understanding other points of view. Their whole journey together makes for an amazing read. There is a good amount of suspense throughout, and they had me rooting for them the entire way through. I really hope that Eve's sister gets her own book!

Eve wanted to live her OWN life. For years, she built and lived a happy life in the city. Then things changed, oh how they changed! What she thought was her protection from her past, became her biggest fear as her life began to unravel. Oh, why did her bear scent resurface and at a critical point in her career?!
Owen had no idea his next assignment would include his past. One sniff and the memories come flashing back.
Will Owen and Eve finally make things right? Must-Read suspense, love, honor, romance are all tied into this story.
