About the author

Juan Fernández is a Spanish teacher at University College London. He was born in the south of Spain, in Granada, one of the most beautiful cities in the world. In 1997 he moved to the UK, where he has been teaching Spanish for more than 15 years.
He is also the creator of 1001 Reasons To Learn Spanish, a website with games, videos, podcasts and many activities to help you learn Spanish in a pleasant way.

Spend a year with Juan

Another interesting story from Juan Fernandez. This is a graded reader at the B2 level. While I had to struggle at times with the use of the subjunctive I still loved the story. I don’t know if it was autobiographical I feel like he is taking about his life but it may be that he is just a great storyteller.

He book is written with each chapter representing one month of the year. There are some phases highlighted that will appear in a vocabulary list at the end of the chapter. Unlike earlier books this section is only in Spanish and he explains the use of the phrase in the context of the story.

Great resource for Spanish

This was the last book available from Juan and I just spent the last few weeks reading every book he has written. These books put be on a great start to move on to more difficult books. Thank you Juan

It was alright. Bigger but not better than Año Nuevo, Vida Nueva story-wise. The vocabulary used in this one is indeed at least B2, it could prove to be a challenging book for someone with an A2-B1 level of Spanish. I already knew part of the story because it follows the already published videos on YT, so yeah, the book remains faithful to the original material. One thing I didn't like much, I understand that repetition is key, but there are times when things are overly repeated, it's a bit too much. Anyway, a decent book overall to improve your Spanish.

This was a great read! I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline of poor Juan and his inability to change. I definitely recommend it to anyone looking to improve their Spanish.
