Along the Oregon Trail, a war party of Lakota Sioux rob Con Brann of all that he holds dear--his horses and, more devastatingly his lovely daughter Hester. Only Mister Skye, guide and scout to the Great Plains, can help Brann now.

Meanwhile the Sioux, 10,000 strong, gather to celebrate their ancient Sun Dance ritual, praying for vengeance upon their enemies, including Skye.

Skye, honor-bound to rescue the young girl, must infiltrate their sacred ceremony…even though discovery means horrible death.

Engaging story of another time filled with details of Indian culture and a story of redemption snd failed redemption of a hard heart that refuses to change. Insight into how personal drive can destroy a soul and also how another breaks free from oppression. The Indian ways add a special fascination

The second tale in a double novel book, Bitterroot was the first. Both great.
The Skye family gets involved finding an 18 yo girl kidnapped by the Sioux along the Oregon Trail. Her dad is an unyielding disciplinarian.
