This is the first book of a controversial saga of psycho-sexual and erotic intrigue. Liam, a young man without a family and with a difficult past, escapes to Chicago to start a new life. When everything seems to have reached a level of routine and normality, Liam is arrested by two corrupt agents, Rolan and Morgan, and charged with a crime he has not committed. Forced to accept a deal that seems to benefit everyone, Liam is taken captive and locked in Rolan’s basement, where he will suffer both men’s cruelty in the false hope of achieving their compassion with his obedience and submission. Author's warning: This is a work of very explicit content. All the protagonists are over 18 years of age.
Medusa Stone is a Spanish-born novelist and poet, literary award winner, blogger, and journalist in Europe. Passionate and driven by the defense of human rights, she moved to the US in the year 2000, where she became an anti-trafficking advocate, author and fervent activist against sexual exploitation and slavery. Through Medusa Stone's novels, she explores the misuse of BDSM as an excuse for sexual abuse, with vulnerable characters at the hands of powerful men and organizations. Much of her writing explores the dark nature of humanity; the fine line between love and lust; pain and pleasure; Master and slave. Now a day, the author resides in Gibraltar, UK.
Liam is a beautiful young boy captured by corrupt cops who are trying train him to be accepting.
When he is caught speeding, running a red light, and having two kilos of cocaine in his car trunk, Liam is forced to accept being restrained into submission or going to jail for years.
The plot is great, but I could barely struggle to get through the first couple of chapters, due to the grammatical errors. The writing seemed like it was backwards, and at the end of the chapter, you found that it tried to make sense of the previous writing, but failed.
Well. This story is SUPER fucked up. It’s dark and without the romance, if you were looking for a dark romance. It looks like this story is broken up into several parts for no reason really? Since it looks like the second book picks up directly where this left off.
This isn’t important in the grand scheme of things...but the story is oddly written, with stilted conversations and the way the characters talk feels unnatural because nobody talks like that. There’s jumps in POV between the characters at random, and just seems like the story needs to be edited more? The author’s bio says they came from the UK to the US some years ago and the text kinda shows that, in that the text reads more British than American at times, even though it takes place in the US.
This is allegedly going to be a deep dive into sexual assault, sex trafficking, BDSM, and the psyche behind all that I guess? At least based on the author’s bio and their work against sex trafficking?? I don’t know, I’m skeptical that a woman is writing a m/m series with all that in mind because the story just seems so fucked up??? Like. Why not m/f? Why use gay men as your fodder for rape and abuse? But that’s a whole other rant.
But whew this book is a LOT and I would not feel comfortable giving this a rating because if I did, it would be a 1 star because of the content. I’m kind of surprised this is allowed on KU at all.
Trigger warnings include rape, sexual assault, kidnapping, torture, coercion, dirty cops, mentions of sex trafficking, cops taking part in sex trafficking, and cops raping kids as part of their undercover work and enjoying it.
Sadly, this is not for me despite having many of the darker elements I enjoy.
I think for me to connect with a story I need an emotional element, something that rises above objectification. This story seems much more about degradation, and that is not my cup of tea.
I read to the end of 'Captive: The Accord' in the hope that it might hint at the emotional connection that I look for. The opening did seem to show possibility for that. If it’s there within the rest of the series arc it’s too slow burn for me. Therefore I don't plan to read any further - unless I become aware of something a little more heartwarming in future books.
The blurb at the back of the book suggests that the author 'explores the misuse of BDSM as an excuse for sexual abuse....[she] explores the dark nature of humanity.' My personal preference is to also include some redemption too, and for me that is sorely lacking in this story. For me therefore, it is thanks but no thanks.
This is a dark book about a young man that escapes one hell only to get forced into another one. There were three main POVs, the young man and the two cops that have become embedded and corrupted by the human trafficking world. Some of it was hard for me to read, personally because of the graphic violently sexual nature of it, though I know it's a sick part of real life.
I do wish there were trigger warnings but it was written well though it's not my typical genre. This book is an exposure to a sadistic, terrible part of our world.
This book starts with the back stories and consensual hot BDSM, but as the main plot develops it takes a dark, drastic twist, that kept me at the edge of my seat, suffering with Liam and hoping for mercy from either one of the captors. Liam is a sweet boy easy to feel for, as for the cops they are both brutal but, somehow Rolan's more professional training has manipulated me to believe there might be hope with him. The ending is killing me though!!!! Things don't look great for the boy. Makes you want to read the next NOW. Great and very dark book!
Good idea for a story, but not well executed. I did not like the writing style and it felt very shallow and rushed. I didn't get much of a feel for the characters. I doubt I will continue with the series based on the quality of the writing.
Great start! I actually didn't find as many errors as some reviews mentioned years ago. Could be because I'm not native in the language, but I didn't feel that the flow was odd, which has happened to me with other books.
The story begins with Liam who is escaping from his past and needs to stay away from that danger. He meets a guy at a bar that lets him stay at his house. One day when he was driving to his job, a pair of officers pull him out and find drugs in the car. Liam is scared, he doesn't know what's happening because it isn't his. The cops frighten him assuring that he'll go to jail and the dangers of ending up there. Liam asks for their help and they coerce him into 'accepting' to do anything they want for two months and then he'll be free.
I'm always up for any captivity story, so this one really got my attention. The pacing was great and the writting is simple but nice. There is a twist at the end that I wasn't expecting, sort of a cliffhanger, so I can't wait to keep reading.

If this book had a really solid edit and polish, and some parts tightened up some, it could really be something dark readers would rave about. I get the feeling I’ll be saying the same about the rest of this series too. This book is very dark, and it has a promising premise. If executed better, this series could really be something special.
The sheer number of spelling and grammar errors, just really simple errors, is astounding. It really got on my nerves as I read. The POVs jumped around a lot (third person narrative), and I often didn’t know whose POV I was reading. It sometimes changed in the middle of a scene that had only seen a single POV to that point, or jumped multiple times within a few sentences.
Also, $20 for 6 short stories - barely novella length - is pretty steep.
Despite not being too impressed, I think I’ll read on. I’m intrigued. Though I reckon I will have very similar critiques of the following books.
Undoubtedly the worst series I've read in along while my only reason for reading the series was I hoped it would get better... it really didn't and I'd a string of dnf lately so... The standard of English is very poor and at one stage I wondered if 2 authors were involved as the style seemed to jump depending on the perspective. Having read the author bio I can't help wonder is English the 2nd language as parts felt just so unnecessary and overly descriptive. It needs proofing and a good editor. There are unforgiving typos and misunderstandings over all 6 books. A very poor read indeed.
A dark LBGT erotica thriller that will leave you wanting more.
The plot was interesting and an attention grabber. The erotica scenes are either enticing or thrilling depending on the scene of the book. The author expresses the emotions very well of vulnerability and has made me experience what the author's purpose is about and that is bringing awareness towards human trafficking and the difference between sexual consent and sexual assault. Which i can stand behind behind.
The story is very hard and raw, for those who love the genre like me, it's fantastic !! Liam is a simple boy, who you start to love, he is in the wrong place at the wrong time.. when the attention of some corrupt cops focuses on Liam, you already start to suspect the worst and this will start to make you stand in suspense until the end.. It is a well written, detailed story and makes you understand exactly what is the Stockholm syndrome..
A short, but very well written book. This is the beginning story of a series for this author. Not my preferred genre, and sometimes the graphic and details can be difficult. However, for the fans of gay and erotica reading, you will be entertained. A well written and very descriptive story. I recommend it for those readers.
Roland and his partner were heartless. I felt bad poor Liam. He already had to deal with one crazed person man taking advantage of him but now he got two crazed mofos. I wonder if Luca would ever find him. I probably would of got captured too because I wouldn't go down for those bricks. Good read! Cant wait to read more from this author
This book would be infinitely better with an editing rehaul. It’s dark, so dark one could say pitch black, and the story is there. But I got thrown out of the book often because of many little mistakes. While I want to keep reading this series, I don’t trust that the next book won’t be similar.
I love psychological thrillers and this one did not disappoint. Not only does it have a steamy plot bit it also dives into the depths of the human mind and we watch as not only is Liam’s life is turned inside out but his mind as well.
If you are into dark and psychologically damaged characters this is a perfect book for you
Definitely feel for Liam in the story as he is in trouble with these two cops. Makes you about sex slavery and the challenges they go through. This book has a very dark and intense feeling!
Finally a truly dark book on Stockholm syndrome and human trafficking. Love the characters, even the antagonists because they were really evil and not just characters "acting bad". I hate it when they have the "bad" guy but he's actually really good.
Good story but poor writing. It's simply no english. Translation problems? Some passages are beyond understanding. Shouldn't be for sale as it is, a proper correction is required. I've downloaded the complete serie but I don't think I'll read it.
Very short (86 pages) and incomplete as it is the first in a serial. Writing style is odd and editing could be better. The story is very dark and there is certainly no romance here. Sparks enough interest to continue with book 2
I think this series will be a pass for me. My initial thoughts are just "nope." There are zero redeeming qualities to the MMCs. It's not the vibe. I read the entire thing with a grimace on my face. Pitch black novel. All the MF TWs. Read at your own risk.
This book is not for the faint-hearted but it does bring the very real issue of human trafficking modern day slavery to light. Part of a series. Well done, Dakota Stone
Poor editing takes away from the story. So far this is a generic, innocent kidnapped boy made to submit, story Two captors both policeman. Will see where this goes.
