In a game of cat and mouse, her attacker doesn’t realize he’s the mouse.

And after what he’s done to her, she’s determined to get revenge.
Trapped with only her wits, she’ll need to take-down and escape her attacker.
I just finished reading Ruby. It's a short read and was perfect for a Sunday afternoon. It introduced Jack Maksim, a detective along with an escort, Ruby. I won't give away any spoilers. I will say I liked the short chapters so if I didn't have much time to read, I'd be able to leave off at a chapter and not in the middle of one. Jack is strong but has weaknesses he is aware of and that are explained well in the book. Same with Ruby - she is so strong, but has weaknesses that she accepts. I am psyched to read Heart to continue Jack's story. It's pretty rare for me to be surprised by a book. I read alot and can usually tell what the mystery is/who the killer is, etc pretty early on. Again, I won't give away spoilers but I was shocked at one of the characters' ending - and I don't mean death. I never saw it coming. I will say I had to reread a couple of paragraphs in the beginning because I was confused as to who's point of view I was reading. But that's not a bad thing. I love dual point of view/dual stories that wrap into one another. Really enjoyed these characters.
A decent crime thriller about corruption, power and greed. Ruby is raped while working the annual police charity auction and is determined to find out which dirty cop did it. Suddenly people start shooting, an escort is dead and the Diamond D'Oracle has been stolen. The story is told from both homicide detective Jack Maksim's point of view as well as Ruby's, which at times can be a bit confusing. Ruby is out for revenge and Jack is hunting a killer and thief.
Well paced, interesting characters and some surprising twists made for an enjoyable introduction to a new series.
This is the way that any new series should be started. I loved the story and the character work was fantastic. I was enthralled from beginning to end. This is the first time that I've read anything by this author, but it most definitely won't be the last.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Ruby: There Will Be Revenge is the first book in the "A Detective Jack Maksim Thriller" series and is a good start to a new series.
This book is a gritty and somewhat gory crime thriller, not for the faint at heart. The characters are interesting and the storyline is complex, with murder, rape, corruption, suspense, and intrigue.
I am looking forward to the next book in this series. I read and reviewed this book with no obligation
But with so many characters and plot twists running through the story, the end was a complete mystery. Maybe you can do better than me in figuring out who did what to who, but I was lost. No more of this series for me.
