Ever since her village burned, Alina has been afraid of fire. But when she discovers a mysterious gem inside dying embers, she becomes enthralled by the strange object. Where did it come from? Who left it there? And why, just for a moment, did she forget her fear?

When an army of marauders attacks her new home, intent on finding the stone and destroying all who stand in their way, Alina soon finds herself thrown into a world of danger and uncertainty.

Determined to keep the stone from the army, and with nobody but her friends at her side, she must travel to the Ethereal Realm to uncover the origins of the gem – and with it, the truth about herself.

Forced to face her fears, and the only one who can hope to stop the army’s rampage, will Alina be able to harness the power of the stone? Or will her new life burn just like her village?

This is the first time I have read anything by Hannah Parker and Skyborn Ignite will not be the last . Loved this story .
The main character is easy to relate to with fears and doubts we all have and Hannah's ability as I writer to draw is in has us the reader vested in the main character early on in this story and it makes this book hard to put down .
The world building is great and things about the world are not forced upon the reader which makes this story even better .
And did I mention it has DRAGONS not saying any more lol you will have to read this story for more information .
I enjoyed this book from start to finish and I'm eagerly waiting for more . So do yourself a favor and pick this up but make sure the kids are feed and the dog walked because once you start you are not going to want to put it down . Go buy this book , enjoy it then come back and leave a review only takes a few minutes and it helps the author's more than you know .

(Very belated, sorry) Edit: I received this as a Goodreads Giveaway. (Edit 2: no I didn't, why did I think I did?)
Parts read to me like one of those LitRPG novels, but with very poor literary craft. Indeed the book scans as a compendium of what not to do, in grammar, syntax, execution and even concept (the treatment of various fantasy races doesn’t have the virtue of being rethought- compare in this respect Terry Pratchett’s (typically excellent- [this is not a pull-quote for this review, I am not speaking of Ignite’s author]) "Lords and Ladies" or some recent novels by Charles Stross which all turn the Tolkienish benevolent elf trope on its head, in a fun and smart way typical of those authors. Or even the well-defined elves of, eg, the October Daye books by Seanan McGuire on the one hand and the Harry Dresden books of Jim Butcher on the other. There are many positive examples to enjoy and for a would-be author to learn from -first-...
Also, copy editing... Please :(!!
I (sincerely, unsnarkily) hope the author’s next work, whether or not she takes any of this advice specifically, will be much improved.

This is a new author as best I can tell, and new to me for sure. However I loved this book and now crying for next book. It took me 2 - 3 chapters to get to know the MC, but once I understood her I could not put this book down. The ending was very good to me, it is a little of a cliffhanger, so my heart is hanging in mid air about to drop and break with the MC (Alina).

Seriously, Hannah if you read these, When is the next book??? ;-)

Unfortunately it is poorly written. The story itsself has promise but the author rushed through several parts that really deserved more time. The entire book feels rushed and consequently the story doesn't flow. SPOILER - You don't get to know the characters and a lot doesn't make sense, such as the heroine with zero training can fight and win in combat with near Giants. Really needs to be re-written

Haha. Went from Xmas to a YA fantasy. But I oddly was craving something like this because I have been reading SO much romance and xmas books these last couple of weeks. Time to end the year with a fantasy hehe.

We follow Alina who is terrified of fire because her entire life and family went up in flames years ago. Her whole village burned up and she is the only survivor. But everything changes when a mysterious gem appears like magic in dying embers. She becomes enthralled by this gem. When an army of marauders attacks her new home, she soon finds herself in a world of danger and uncertainty. Determined to keep the gen away from those who would use it for evil, she travels to the Ethereal Realm to uncover the origins of the gem and about herself.

This has the makings of an exciting world and story. I am curious to see what happens next especially how this one ended. Oooo mama. That was an ending...I was left mouth agape. WHA? NO!

It is short, but there is a lot of content but I do want to learn more about this world. I feel like something is missing. Maybe book 2 will have the answers I seek.

Poor Alina. I just want her to be happy and live a good life. She keeps getting tossed into crazy situations.

This was a fun way to end the year. My last book of 2020. Fire and dragons and battles! It was a freebie on Amazon and it is short so I do recommend it. I'll give this 4 stars as well.

The imagery is wonderful and easy to imagine. Hannah has a talent with words that I hope she pursues further. She draws us in with her story of shy Alina whose village was destroyed by fire when she was young, leaving her with a fear of fire. Now they are back with another reign of terror.
Oh and a few dragons and elves thrown in as well.
I received a free e-copy of this little gem not sure where from, but I thank the author for this prequel I hope to a new series? But it does show on Amazon. That did not affect my review

Seriously Hannah may want to add a middle initial? When I did a search for more books I was blushing.

Great story. BUT

while a great start to what seems like good series hard to tell when it's only 60 pages or so long.. I know some like this episode book crap .. me I think l it's deceptive. I settel I. Fir a good book and 20 min later its done .. many times now this new concept has messed me up 15 books great ready to go 40 hours of reading done clearly they need to label these things so it is easily identified as a episode series.. once seems like a great story just not enough of it to tell.

This story was a pretty fast paced quick read. While I did enjoy the story, I do feel some part could be expanded on--especially the MC's training. She suffers from the classic "chosen one" ailment and seemingly learns to master things far too quickly. Aside from that, my only other complaint is that for a character who is supposedly eighteen, she often acts much younger. All in all, I did enjoy the story and mostly enjoyed the pacing. I plan to read the next book.

Under dogs

I have always been a sucker for the underdogs. Greed will not win and honor will rule. It is always unsettling for me when the heroine does not know who or what she is. However, I do like to see their confidence and ability grow. Reading Trials as soon as it downloads.

An interesting story of dragons, elves and people. Some people can actually communicate with the dragons.

It needs quite a bit of editing help, starting at the end of the first chapter where Alina is described as being "...just over five and a half inches.".

Definitely needs some work on the story flow and the ending was too abrupt. Not really an ending at all.

Ignite

Ignite was an interesting short book. It had a few well done aspects, but mostly the main characters where just ok. They where naive for being older than most and also some of the plot was oddly placed. It was an okay book overall for a free short story. I will rwad book 2 since it is free and go from there.

Great story needs editing.

This is an excellent fantasy tale, but I had difficulty getting past all of the grammar and punctuation errors. More time should have been spent on editing.

Unhappy Ending

The ending was not happy and the story had no closure. Also, the book was too short. Was not proofread adequately and contains several words that make little sense in context and disrupt the reading flow.

Surprises

There are of course some surprises in the book. Plenty of adventure and of course dragons. A power unknown. Will she be able to overcome fear and master it. Read the book and find out. The book is well written and worth a read.
