Yes. I admit. I'm in love. (Ugh!) But let's be realistic- I'm married and when that happens, realism sets in pretty quick. Those recurring used socks on the floor make sure of it! But I'm in love with being in love. The comfort of their human-ness, the warmth of their voice and even the sweatiness of hand-holding of someone you adore. Dearest George hopefully captures that. The everyday kinda love an infinite number of kisses, huge doses of longing when they're away, just a wee bit of creepy stalking, lots of chips eating (one needs special nutrition) & the occasional banter about who made the first move. He DID. (I need this in print so this debate ends once & for all.) He'll tell you some story about a bus and all. DO NOT listen. Close your ears and hum. Trust me.
The corniest book you've read but also the most adorable, heart-felt and warm one. We all know about Alicia, a very talented illustrator and her tribe (which includes the most adorable dog ever- George and a fluffy hamster- Hen). Dearest George is a collection of illustrations that brings out her mushy-mushy love for her husband-George. . The book manages to open a portal to your heart with its honest illustrations of a love-sick wife and a husband who hates PDA (relatable to a lot of folks out there!). There are tidbits from her daily life, with many laugh-out-loud moments. Alicia is rightly called the happiness illustrator because she manages to get her readers to smile with her take on small moments that hold so much significance. Alicia shares intimacy with her readers without making it cringy (the unromantic ones might argue otherwise, but I don't care). . 'Dearest George' will make a great gift this Valentine's Day. Or a little something for yourself.
It's a cute Lil book that will make you feel awww, that will make you fall in love again with your partner, will make you admire your partner.
It's a collection of super amazing illustrations that give prominence to her love for her husband George. Sharing the moments of her daily life, their bond, Alicia brings a smile to readers face with her cute, cheezy illustrations.
It's an adorable book that will make you miss your partner a Lil bit more if you are away from them. An adorable book that one can gift their partner. AN AMAZING BOOK.
There are these candy floss love stories that we have all read, and then there is this one. A self - proclaimed corny book, this one talks about love that is raw, honest and real. Yes, excessive PDA, stalking and creepiness included! In an adorable way, of course. Charlie and Henry-Oats get their fair share of pages too and like Alicia says, yes, you'd want to reach through the pages and squish them. When it comes to Dearest George, you cannot help but feel for him. He's so lucky! He's celebrated throughout the book and with good reason! As Alicia would probably say, he put the love in this love story.
One of the quickest reads ever, this book makes you want to grin ear to ear after reading it. Everyone who is in love or has been in love, this book is an ode to you. Alicia beautifully brings out the charm and the beauty in daily mundane things and makes you look at love without rose tinted glasses. As someone who is a lover of love, but not too fond of reading conventional or tragic romance, this book struck the right chord. The illustrations, the relatability, the situations, the flow of context is all so pretty and just right.
Corny, yes. Cheesy, to the extent of a double burst pizza. Creepy, a lil bit. Honest, oh hell yes! Read this just for love and nothing else.
It's a cute, little book. A mushy, corny comic book. Hardcover!
What happens when a little too expressive woman is deeply, crazily in love with her husband, who is not that expressive? Dearest George is all about that.
You can call it a mushy love story but it's not really a story. This book is an illustrated expression of their daily, happy married life. It's funny and full of warmth, yes, but it's just a random, disconnected collection of cute illustrations {some 128 pages, so yes, it's repetitive}. To be very honest, I missed a storyline. It's way too random. Then, I came to know that it's a collection of author's Instagram illustrations.
Adorable. Cuteness overloaded. Love drips from these pages. Couldn't help thinking that almost every loving couple behaves in the same way, as me and my wife were looking at almost every other page and giggling at how much it resembled our own life. Go for it. ❤️
If one can ever read cotton candy then it must be like this book. so sickenly sweet and mushy mushy that I might end up getting sugar coma and I am not complaining a single bit of it. Dearest George is the collection of love notes of Alicia to her beardy man where she counts literally every single gesture and ways to express her love. All the PDAs, songs, metaphors are so intoxicatingly sweet and beautiful and every illustration has this magical power to make me smile and laugh and giggle. even opening up a random page does that too! I can relate with her excessive romantic and corny gestures it somehow manages to give me comfort that I am not the only one who does or think all these! Its a perfect pick up comic books with happy vibes that next time when I have a gloomy day I am gonna start reading this again!
| Book Review | Dearest George. • Dearest George is without a doubt the cutest book that I've ever owned. If you follow the famous illustrator Alicia D'Souza, you'd know about her George (husband) , Charlie (Dog) and Henry-Oats (Hamster). This book of adorable illustrations is dedicated to her husband George and to everyone who is in love. It's packed with laughter and portrays what marriages are all about. • You can't help smiling when you read this book and perhaps this is why it gained huge love from the readers almost immediately after being published. Alicia's quirkiness, her need for PDA and endless love for chips are declared for the entire world to know. It's clear how much she loves her husband and she tells us why through cute little depictions. As she proclaims in the very beginning, this book is as cheesy, corny and mushy as it can get. But it does make you feel better and livens up your day. I was pleasantly surprised to see a pack of stickers and a lovely postcard that came with the book. If you're looking for something wonderful to gift your partner irrespective of the occasion, this one's for you :) • Thank you for sending this @penguinindia ♥️
Okay, finally proved that I love reading corny books, and while reading them, I have this big goofiest smile pasted on my face. This, I never realized before reading this super mushy, cute as hell book Dearest George by Alicia D’Souza, where excessive PDA is a norm but rather in an adorable way. Oh my god! Just thinking about it makes the grin reappear on my face. Urghhhh! What’s wrong with me?
In addition to all those PDA moments, I literally gushed with love and an intense desire to squish these two cayooties Charlie (Dog) and Henry-Oats (Hamster). Alicia’s darling pets. Now come to think of it, isn’t this book a cuteness overload? Huh? Though, did I tell you that this book is a collection of some of the corniest illustrations that are going to melt your heart and some that are going to make you bark with laughter.
Ah yes, I was literally barking with laughter. It’s incredible that for such a short book, Alicia’s Dear George was a laughter riot! Mere illustrations were enough to put my imagination into drive. Never had I ever grinned so much, or laughed like crazy.
A plate of momos & your face, Netflix, pizza & your hand in mine. Some chop suey & us in our space, you & some food make for my favourite time. 🦄🦄🦄 Dearest George by Alicia Sousa is the mushiest, gooiest, corny, cheesy, painstaking romantic book you'll ever read. If you're in a relationship whether married or just dating you ARE going to relate to this on some level. It brought such a huge smile on my face while reading about every corny thing they do and how they are basically the perfect couple. 💞 I love the drawings/graphics AND the unexpected surprise at the end of the book that I'm definitely going to use. After reading this book I think I've fallen more in love with love.😍 🦄🦄🦄 Melina L. Rated 100/100

Alicia Souza needed to make a marriage announcement without having a big, fancy wedding. So a few months after the legal documents were signed making her and her husband, George, government-approved official, she upgraded her annual-ish update of drawings into a book. Dearest George is her way of getting back at her husband for being awkward about PDA by taking all her love notes public.
Souza illustrates snippets of being married when you're madly in love. But these aren't just funny incidents. These are the corniest, mushiest moments that might make the best of us question whether being married is really worth it, after all.
The sketches are incredibly cute with a bearded husband, a mostly-beaming wife, an attention-seeking dog and a blink-and-you-miss guinea pig. The events described are not connected but as you flip through you'll get a peek into the life of a hopelessly-in-love couple finding joy in the day-to-day. Or is it Alicia finding joy while George looks on helplessly?
Every little detail in the book is hand drawn. Even the copyright page! I love her illustration style and the way she uses colour in mostly black and white drawings.
The book's layout is a mix of comic strips, postcards, posters, with a page of stickers and a postcard at the end. Every page is frameable art and would make great gifts for your SO as multiple love notes or all together as a declaration of love.
Alicia Souza isn't called the Happiness Illustrator for nothing. Whether you're in love, not in love, looking for love or done with love, you'll find plenty in here to bring a smile on your face.
