Various is the correct author for any book with multiple unknown authors, and is acceptable for books with multiple known authors, especially if not all are known or the list is very long (over 50).

If an editor is known, however, Various is not necessary. List the name of the editor as the primary author (with role "editor"). Contributing authors' names follow it.

Note: WorldCat is an excellent resource for finding author information and contents of anthologies.

World's Greatest Short Stories (Collectable Edition)
I purchased this book when i was searching for some sort of collectable edition of Short Stories. I came across this book Hardcover Edition which was really pretty but then i saw the index which consists of authors like Dostoevsky, Poe, Maupassant, London, Maugham, Dickens, Mansfield etc to name a few but there are so many other great writers too so i took it and I loved it!
Short Stories are great source of Entertainment to me as whenever i feel i don't want to read anything then i read a short story it's a refugee to my unsort feeling when i want to read but don't feel like reading it.
P.S. I enjoyed this a lot from last few months in between other academic readings. And I will be keep coming back to some same old stories for the same delight!
Happy Reading!

It was a great journey, worth the long time. Didn't give 5 because I had a hard time understanding just a few of the stories (I'm sure it differs from people to people) and actually had to look up notes, discussions and reviews about them to clear out at least a bit of the fog I'm in. Leaving them aside, if you are a fan of short stories, this is a must! (I do wish they included more from the Asian side as well, not just Tagore) Happy reading!

After many weeks,I am done with this behemoth.

I made reviews for every single one of these stories and this is a review of this whole anthology.

I enjoyed many stories in this but some were awfully bad.

However,the quality is awesome.Beautiful cover,beautiful end papers,beautiful pages!

Got this book as a gift for Christmas this year because I have been a huge fan of short stories for years now. I was incredibly happy with the contents of the book as it contained a lot of my all times favorites including:
- The Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe
- White Nights by Fyodor Dostoevsky
- The Devoted Friend by Oscar Wilde
- The Enemy of All the World by Jack London
I absolutely loved reading through these again and catching up on what I might have missed in previous times I had read those stories. I was disappointed they left out a few that in my opinion are definitely worthy of being included such as The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allan Poe and Hills like White Elephants by Ernest Hemingway. However, I enjoyed reading a lot of new material I had not read previously. I personally enjoyed The Necklace by Guy de Maupassant as it’s relays a great message of being happy and grateful with what you have and not putting so much attention on material things as though it will guarantee happiness. There are a lot of stories by Anton Chekhov, which was great given that I had heard a lot about it his works but never personally read them before opening this book. Whether you’re greatly into short stories like myself or considering trying them out for the first time, I definitely recommend this!

I sought out a book like this wanting to taste various famous authors' writings. Very worthwhile though it should have been titled "WGSS... Of the 19th and very early 20th century". It does make me realize I love short stories and will search for more...

Some very touching stories and some head scratching one’s, my favourite “ A Childs dream of a star” by Charles Dickens . One important point for book collector’s, the bindings of this book is of very poor quality, I had to perform repair’s and this even if I bought it brand new.
