The Galactics arrived with their Battle Fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined a vast Empire that spanned the Milky Way.
More than a century has passed since the glorious day of Earth’s annexation. Struggling to hold on to a handful of planets in the frontier provinces, humanity is at war with Rigel. After the destruction of both our fleet and theirs, a time of quiet rebuilding has begun.
James McGill was hoping for a peaceful break in the conflict, but an opportunity to gain a significant technological edge arises. He’s summoned to Central and sent off to the stars, searching for a strange planet dotted with crystalline formations. There, the vicious apex predators from Rigel manufacture their impenetrable body armor.
McGill is sent to the new planet first as an agent, then at the forefront of Legion Varus. He must face death, evil aliens, and his own untrustworthy government. Find out who lives and who gets permed in GLASS WORLD, book 13 of the Undying Mercenaries series.
With over three million copies sold, USA Today Bestselling author B. V. Larson is the king of modern military science fiction.
Seriously, at least we'd know what we were getting. I frickin' love this character! Each time I see a new book in this series I have to read it immediately. This one was no different. Hilarious and had me ignoring house work to see each new page. Another awesome book by B.V. Larson!
Brian! I Don’t Want To Read The Story To The Finish!
BV, please don’t ever end this series! This series is the ONLY series I read nonstop without getting bored. I even get the Audible version as soon as Mark is done recording it. I did miss the Galactics being involved...meaning I enjoyed the tug of war between the Mogwa and the Skay from the previous book. I still would like to see the next book titled, “Core World”. But any title and any McGill adventure is always great no matter what. Thanks!
A volume a little less convincing than the previous one. Winslade is a little too present, and his presence is far-fetched, not always very understandable. In addition, the story of this thirteenth volume is a bit loose. But it's still a McGuill's strory, with a lot of fun.
“Glass World” is the 13th book in the Undying Mercenaries series, a military science fiction saga that follows the adventures of James McGill, a soldier who can be revived after death using alien technology. In this installment, McGill is sent to a mysterious planet where the enemy Rigelians produce their powerful armor, and he has to deal with hostile aliens, treacherous allies, and political intrigue.
The book is a fast-paced and action-packed thrill ride that never lets up. Larson has a knack for creating vivid and imaginative scenarios, such as a world covered in glass shards, a space battle with a giant worm, and a gladiator arena with deadly creatures. The plot is full of twists and turns, and the stakes are high for McGill and his comrades. Larson also injects humor and sarcasm into the story, making it fun and entertaining.
The audiobook is narrated by Mark Boyett, who does a superb job of bringing the characters and the world to life. Boyett has a clear and expressive voice, and he uses different accents and tones to distinguish the various characters. He captures the personality and emotions of McGill, as well as the other human and alien characters. He also adds excitement and drama to the action scenes, making them more immersive and engaging.
“Glass World” is a great addition to the Undying Mercenaries series, and a must-read for fans of military science fiction. It is a standalone story, but it also builds on the previous books and sets up the next one. It is a satisfying and enjoyable listen that will keep you hooked until the end.
I'd give this 2 1/2 stars if I could but not three. Sure if you like a misogynist character who cares more for who he can sleep with than those around him and doing it over and over again than maybe you'd love this book.
It amazes me how the author always writes like the things Mcgill does will get him any girl he wants and is never really shot down. How all his troops and those around him are totally fine with referring to them as 'Girl' when that would totally get him punched in the face a lot. Can you imagine if someone higher up called him 'boy' how would he react to such a belittling term.
Also lets not pretend that Abigail is a 'sister' of clavier, She's not, she is Clavier she is exactly the same , a clone with just a X instead of a Y in her DNA but all the rest is the same. He is literally screwing Clavier and trying to rationalize it by thinking of her as their 'sister' when shes not..she is a female Clavier, might as well give a Clavier male a sex change and let Mcgill screw him. The whole thing is super messed up.
Oh and will Mcgill care of his troops? Will he stand up for them and mention who does all the work and needs a promotion like Natasha? Nope just screws her and forgets about her the moment credit is being dolled out, doesn't even fight for her promotion when that was the basis for her help the whole book.
Honestly I am suprised his troops don't just shoot him in the back all the time. You'd think the hogs he always rough handles would just start shooting him on sight since kiling eachother doesn't seem to be a big deal at least when Mcgill does it.
Maybe all this bullshit womanizing bad decisions would be written off, he's the worst version of a 'man' and thats fine, he follows his dick over common sense. Got it , he's a idiot but what the hell is wrong with all the people above him. Like plain obvious shit they always over look, A compete commander would be Graves but instead they let someone like Windslade become leader before him? Really?
And how many times has Mcgill saved the world by accident, gotten them critical intel, fixed missions that would have gone down the shit? Don't they review the body cam footage? Put 2 and 2 together. I swear all the adult people in charge in this book act like they are 12 and unable to put simple logic together. He has done more for the earth than any single person alive yet still gets passed up for promotion time and time again? Merit means shit? Ooh others take credit? ..JUST review the damn footage and ask for full complete reports. Bam done, Mcgill is now leading his own legion by that point. Or hell make him a special commando unit attatched to legions when they go on hard missions to get stuff done.
Yes it's written that way to keep the story going but it's far past the point to bad writing, people don't act that way. People are not that dumb to not be able to put simple things together like that. How did Mcgill get trapped in this book, why couldn't he return to the ship. Why did he have to go to that planet instead of returning to the ship. Simple questions about the mission that would have screwed over Windslade don't ever get asked and it's complete stupidity. If thats how stupid the Brass is to be in top command, they should have far lost the war by now and be all dead, because I know 14 year old highschooler who have more brains in them than these high level military leaders.
Entertaining on a...how stupid can be this be level. 20% him going after tail, 20% not able to figure simple who is the bad guy and 20% tomfoolery of messing stuff up , 20% Actions that leads no where and only 20% actual story progression. Only one small thing happens to actually move forward the plot of the series and we aren't even sure that gets done. Has nothing to do with the Galatics and earth's overall state, there doesn't seem a plot or goal to this series besides writing the next book. It does not seem like the author at all is moving towards a end goal to wrap the series up and end it, he just wants to keep writing episodic books that lead no where to keep milking a paycheck.
This has got to be one of my most favorite series. There is so much subtle humor and craziness going on that I get a real kick out of reading each book. I hope they continue forever!
James McGill is back to his old hilarious stuff. He’s a Mercenary if you didn’t know and why you wouldn’t know that is only if you started reading this series with this book which is just wrong! Anyway, McGill hasn’t actually been called back to active duty yet, but he gets a late night visit by a young lady, which isn’t that unusual, except she has contacted James via his tapper. She happens to be one Abigail Claver who James had met briefly in one of his past exploits. She’s also one of the many, many illegal clones of the one and only Claver.
Back to the late night call, Abigail was definitely on a distant planet using an illegal deep-link transmission just to talk to McGill. Yet what she wanted was a face-to-face meeting with him on this strange planet upon which she stood. It turns out that what was thought to be a planet was actual a pretty intact Skay starship that had crashed on Green World. Anyway, she wanted McGill to speak to Praetor Drusus about settling their quarrel with Earth and the Claver clones, the ones that didn’t want to destroy Earth and had separated from the original conniving Claver. They had some abilities to offer the Earth so she was trying to get some exclusive contracts and McGill was her contact with the Praetor. Except McGill had forgotten all about his promise to do this for her.
Still, Abigail had something she needed to show James and he had to come to her location to see it. There was no way he was going to get the Praetor to send a ship to do this so he thought the next best thing would be to use the deep cast device his daughter, Etta, was working on down in Grey Deck at Central. The only problem with his plan was that Grey Deck was highly classified and he definitely didn’t have the clearances. Not only that, but the Hegemony Hogs (Guards) who provided security, would just love to catch James trying to break into Grey Deck.
So, James put on the old charm with his daughter and she got him in muct to her discomfort. She also managed to send him out to meet with Abigail, but she was pretty dead by the time James got to her. But James did some snooping around gathered some samples of the world he was on and got back to Grey Deck. Unfortunately, he had been injured on Green World and soon died of his injuries!
Galina Turov, MaGill’s Tribune, had him revived. So now that Galina is invovled she obviously wants all the glory to come her way. It seems that McGill has stumbled upon the very planet where the Rigellian’s made their super tough armor clothing. This stuff was much, much tougher than the armor worn by Legion Varus mercenaries so if they could find how this stuff was made and make their own, they would be unstoppable.
And that’s the rest of the story. How James McGill shows Legion Varus where and how to manufacture their own impenetrable armor. It wasn’t as easy as it sounds, but he got it done and almost got a promotions out of it. Yeah, Centurion James McGill was going to be a Primus, well, almost. And that’s another story!
Another excellent installment in the series: interest-grabbing situations, clever solutions, hilarious writing as we follow ol’ James McGill, who’s risen from clever recruit into the worst of Earth’s legions to even cleverer Centurion.
He’s a successful womanizer and smart subordinate who overcomes the worst of the officers who’ve risen politically to their positions, saving their bacon, while using his initiative to do what’s right for his subordinates and his good superiors but especially for Earth in a corrupt Galaxy.
Please keep ‘em coming! We need to see Winslade and Turov on the one hand get their just comeuppances, while McGill, Graves and Drusus and all of Earth get their just desserts.
I'm tired of everyone but Drusus and McGill being politically savvy. Is it impossible for the story to evolve beyond McGill running into the slaughter house at the orders of idiots, and then having Drusus turn a blind eye?
By never working towards resolving the broken bureaucracy (which is the main plot of every book) has killed off any intrigue this world has.
It's time for McGill to start looking towards the future, using these alliances that keep getting hinted at. Or at least helping someone else achieve that power.
Ten proces tworzenia pancerzy z gwiezdnego pyłu jest mind blowing, jakby XD dziwne to, i jeszcze wykorzystywanie dzieci, larwy to dzieci więc XDDD

McGill i Legion Varus zostają więc wysłani z misją odkrycia położenia planety bogatej w rzadkie i niezwykle cenne zasoby, dzięki którym nasz przeciwnik ma przewagę technologiczną.
Felt mostly like a filler book, and most of the other character acted like they lost several points of IQs. Also is James just gonna stay a centurion? What a waste of time, he has literally zero character growth since book 1, uncaring, misogynistic, selfish, ignorant and getting worse instead of better. The same cast of characters shuffling around allegiances again and again- it's getting repetitive. How is Winslade able to worm himself to the favor of a Praetor when he is literally a spy for Claver. Did they not tell the Praetor about this? Did they just forget? Is the Praetor unaware?
Also about Abigail, is this a fetish for the author? To not only screw every notable female character but trying to find a way for him to romance males too as gender bends? What's next, his daughter? Also when exactly did Abigail diverge from the other Clavers, she acts as if the first time she met James she only knew him by reputation. Is she a Claver from before Tech World? I thought Claver X diverged during Death World and he created her. Is her memories during the time she was a male just gone? Does her gender change makes her suddenly attracted to males or are all Clavers attracted to males and this was the secret reason they didn't like other women. She existed for maybe years as a woman but almost a century as man. Why is she suddenly attracted to men? This series is getting dumber and dumber.
Listen, I just straight up can't get enough of this series. At this point I gotta just admit to myself that this is one of my favorite series. I enjoy the shenanigans of one James McGill and I love the way the stories are told.
I was happy that we got a little more Drousus in this book as I find his intelligence and honesty a breath of fresh air. I still can't stand Windslade and would love to help McGill get him permed, even if that isn't the McGill way.
I was a little disappointed with the ending of this book. While it wasn't bad, I still would have liked to see the other direction they could have taken, even if it was only for one book
Overall I just can't say enough about this series. It's so fun and enjoyable and easy to read. My only regret is that I can't get more people to read it. I hope it finds its way into other people's Kindles or shelves at some.point because they're a blast.
As always, Larson tells a story like no others. It's hard to even put it down once started. But I have to ask, "Why does McGill even WANT to stay with this bunch of crooks?" Everyone hates him and treats him like dirt! Many at one time or another have lied, betraid, or even tried to kill him. They take credit for his ideas and accomplishments. He has plenty of money and does not owe them a thing. Frankly, they would be lost without him. So, again, why does he stick around? Why not leave and tell them all to take a hike? Let these dunderheads try to do it on their own. Let them fail. Let them "show their true stripes". Let them find someone else to do their jobs and take credit. I suppose I will not ever understand why he stays., or why they are so unwilling to work with him. Just leave! Of course, without James McGill, the Undying Mercenaries would be a short story, indeed!
The story is so so. Some of it drags out for too long. The five star review comes from the the character of McGill himself that keeps me reading. I enjoy how the author keeps us tuned into McGill’s thinking. Which is highly entertaining. Several passages of McGills thought streams required highlighting.
Even though this is obviously fiction, I can’t help but feel anger that McGill is so ignored for future leadership lol. If BV Larson doesn’t get McGill some real respect in the next book, I’ll have no choice but to stop reading!
I really like the way this ended. I also am amazed at how well fleshed out Larson has made the main character. When certian things occur I am fairly sure how he will react because I feel like I know him almost. IF it was revealed that he was actually patterned after a friend of his I would be less amazed but not surprised. The world building is done so well I feel like I could walk through a portal and live in that world. Usually by the time a series gets this many books a story gets stale or the situations are totally insurmountable and are magically resolved, but every book in this series has caught my attention at the beginning and held it to the end.
BV Larson has done it again. I like all of his series of books but this is by far my favorite series. James McGill is a character that is a rare treat. I'm always disappointed to finish the book because I want it to keep on going and I think that maybe one of the best compliments that I can give any author on a book. So my recommendation is keep McGill fighting and dying and do not remove him from Legion Varus! I think it's an interesting thought to see him promoted but then again he gets in a lot more trouble this way and usually ends up being the de facto leader anyway, lol!. Great storyline and I can't wait for the next one.
Ok, so I was desperate to to read something, but I was on a bunch of anticonvulsants, because I had just had brain surgery, not to mention a bunch of opiates. I couldn’t really manage anything that was difficult to read. I found this series fit the bill perfectly. There’s not much about it that I find redeeming but it’s perfect if your circumstances match mine and you’re just simply too drugged to follow a more difficult narrative. f you’re reading this and you’re not in my situation and enjoy it, I’m happy for you, as I am happy for those who enjoy watching Law and Order, an incredibly formulaic TV show which bores me to tears even if I am drugged beyond reason.
I have to admit when this series started I enjoyed the story that was being built. After 13 books, I have to start asking "will this series end?" It is not clear to me what the eventual story arc will be and like the last few books, this one added little to the progression. The books are feeling formulaic. Despite that they are still entertaining for the reason I am reading them. But if you are looking for a deep story, I don't think you will find it here. However, if you are just trying to relax and have been following the exploits of James McGill, then you should be happy.
Another world, another adventure. I enjoyed this chapter of the series and found the pace and tempo of the journey that McGill was on to be quite entertaining. Although the path that the main character takes may seem repetitive from previous chapters/books, the story retains enough variety to keep you interested and engaged. Bring on Doppleganger/Opposite World.
McGill continues doing it his way taking no crap-aliens beware of imminent death-ladies he doesn’t do sweet nothings. Current aliens fare no better; although they kill him as often as he kills them he has the added advantage of revival each time. Also means the ladies stay young by getting revival bodies at the ages they choose. Not for pc snowflakes!
Let me preface this with I never write reviews. This however has turned into my favorite series of all time. I fricking love McGill. His thought processes and how he get into and out of different incredible situations is awesome. Plenty of action, plenty of babes, plenty of military sci-fi. 10/10 series for anyone that like their military science fiction and always wondered what it would be like to go into battle not fearing a good perming.
I want to see him leading legion Varus sometime soon, he deserves it more than Winslade or Galina.
I liked the book and really like the series. McGill and the other characters are great. I am a bit surprised that none of the other women are pregnant. I keep thinking that those fresh grow girls can't be infertile. J thought it was going to be a near earther at first (either queen or scientist).
I don't know what type of world McGill should discover next unfortunately.
I think the best thing about this addition to the series is the ongoing character growth, the career desires of some of the officers, even some of the enlisted to move up, and of course some others. Great laughs and action as usual. The writing I'd always done so well that you feel and visualize the action and desperation. The story was all about one set goal but a bit all over the place.
Definately movie quality. There was character development amoung many of the characters. I also, appreciated the slow progression of the plot, and the emphasis on characters being able to contribute in new ways. Of course James is always caught in the middle of political tourmoil. I still would like to see B.V. Larson develop this series more. With books of intentional crossovers with characters or entirely different characters.
Another easy read straight out of Georga Sector.

Classic McGill. And still not tiring of him and his antics. Thoroughly enjoyable. Fun to read. Undying Mercenaries always get the job done. Well, at least if it is Legion Varus with Centurion McGill. Even IF Winslade tries to screw them all in the worst way. That sniveling weasel. Well, wonder what book 14 will be entitled. And also how much longer the series will continue. Great work, guys!! Another winner....
Looks like earthlings still have a way to go to beat those teddys. Yes they now have better armour but hey, they can revive anytime so better armour much an advantage. What they really need are better weapons, killing machines that can whack the bears wholesale. Also that Würtenberger, he’s got to be a Claver in disguise, just watch.
Have to give this one a lower score because... It's getting too absurd. McGill basically does the work of fifty competent super soldiers and spies regularly, and yet... Nothing. It beggars belief, honestly. The fact he's also concerned with getting his dick wet to the ludicrous degree he endures anything and puts up with all the shit in the world for it just worsened the book a lot for me, this time around.

This is a great series to read between my other larger series. The character development and world-building is great. It's usually a quick easy read, or if you have audible a nice listen. Doesn't involve any thinking. I was drawn in since book 1 and binged the series.
Definitely recommend it if you are looking for some space combat, mixed with good character development and a decent story line.
I can’t help but laugh when thinking of McGill. He gets into the most unthinkable situations, including getting permed but BS’s his way out, or falls into the splice just to come out smelling like a rose. His foolishness and sometimes ingenious solutions to impossible situations is a thrill ride in itself. Keep these books coming!
The crazy antics of the characters who makeup Legion Varus are at it again. Those of you who have been following the series will appreciate the skullduggery, back stabbing, misdirection and heroics that has made this series a thoroughly enjoyable read. I give Glass World five stars because I’m a biased fan and want to read more!
