A set of amazing stories by four of some of the best in historical romance. I read each of these stores on their own, but together you will have endless hours of braw highlanders and the women who love them!

The Highlander's Reward by Eliza Knight
The Highlander's Reward is a fast paced adventure that captures the essence of the highlands. Eliza Knight has a gift for snaring the readers attention at the beginning and not letting go until the last page is turned. Traveling through Scotland to meet her betrothed decreed by the king, Lady Arabella de Mowbray is trying to come up with a plan to get back to England. Her party is thrown right in the middle of an English and Scottish battle and she finds herself fighting to stay alive. Magnus Sutherland, Laird of his clan is traveling back home when he sees Arabella and rescues her. Taking her to safety she is attacked by one of his own men and he decides he needs to marry her to keep her safe. As he takes her to his home at Dunrobin Castle, Arabella is determined their marriage will be in name only, but the best laid plans and all that!! With Arabella being English and England and Scotland being at war, how could they get along? But as fate often has it, their union starts to become something else. I loved these two characters. Magnus was such a strong warrior but had such a good heart and Arabella is brave and really strong herself. Fast paced with intense emotions and humor at times, this was a wonderful story that made me long for the rest of the series!! Eliza Knight does it again!!

Marin's Promise by Madeline Martin
here was no doubt in my mind that this would be an amazing story! With five sisters that are left at their father's castle while he is away, Bran, a reiver manages to take over the castle. But he never expected Marin, the eldest, who had been trained as a warrior, just as all of her siblings. Marin was determined to outwit him and do whatever she could to take back control.
A strong, courageous heroine and a determined hero who has his own reasons for needing to be the victor, clash together as this adventure unfolds. But there is so much more to this story than appears and I was gripped in the intensity with a few tears and emotions that wound it's way into a journey that was unexpected. Married? Yes they did but what was the reason and could it last? It seems that fate, which is often unexpected, brought these two together with a resounding spark that could light the sky!
Prepare to be enthralled in the first story of this new series that only had me anxious to read about the next sister. Madeline Martin is a master story teller, who always weaves circles around my heart with her detail and wonderful characters that become real with their thoughts and actions! As all of her books, I highly recommend this one and know you will thank me later!!

Outlaw King by Julie Johnstone
1296 Northern Scotland. As this book started, I had no warning of the emotions that would come through as I turned each page. Robert the Bruce and his fated love Elizabeth de Burgh come to life through the pages of this amazing story of the fight for Scottish freedom over the English. As rightful heir to the Scottish throne, Robert is forced to make some hard decisions that bring him so close to death. In feigning loyalty to the English King Edward, he is walking a slippery slope to free his people. He is brought together with Elizabeth, who is the goddaughter of the king and who has been made a pawn to entrap him.
This amazing tale filled with lies, deceit, gut wrenching suspense and extraordinary love will take you away to another time and place and capture your heart. I have to admit I wanted to do real harm to King Edward and Elizabeth's father as they controlled her and Robert.
Julie Johnstone has truly outdone herself with this extraordinary story that I feel bereft that it is over but can only hope her next book in the Renegade Scots series will be published soon!!

My Fierce Highlander by Vonda Sinclair
1628 Highland's of Scotland A fantastic story of clan feuds and those sometime caught in the middle that find love. Widow Gwyneth Carswell and her son where and caught in the clan violence between the MacIrwings and their enemies, the MacGraths. When the Laird Alisdair of the MacGraths is left wounded, she cannot just leave him to die and as a healer she has to help. But her cousin finds out so she has to flee to the MacGraths.
Both of them are tired of the fighting and only want peace between the clans. As the two come together a love is found but the journey to being happy is strewn with many obstacles. An amazing story of a love found when least expected with a little mystery and a sizzling romance.

Alasdair and Gwyneth are the perfect couple they just don’t realize it at first. When they do realize it their love will come crashing together and be so hot it will singe your hands just turning the pages.

Ms. Sinclair is a truly talented writer who will keep you coming back for more.

Madeline Martin writes a book filled with kick a** women that will blow your mind. It doesn’t get any better then this and this book rocked. Ms. Martin ypou blew me away with this book.

The Highlander’s Reward  by Eliza Knight

The Highlander’s Reward by Eliza Knight
Lady Arbella de Mowbray is going with her father to meet the man that the King ordered her to wed, but when they arrive at Stirling there’s a war between her betrothed and William Wallace. Her father leaves her behind to investigate and see what’s happening. Arabella is attacked by rebels, they kill all her guards and about to pull her from her horse when she is rescued and taken from her horse. The last thing Magnus Sutherland expected was to be rescuing an English lady. Their countries are at war and they should be each other’s enemy, but Magnus realizes he must marry the beautiful English lass he saved to save her reputation and keep peace. As laird of his clan he’s expected to marry, no expected him to bring home an English wife. Arbella thought the marriage was to be in name only, but Magnus decides he desires her and set out to seduce her. The fireworks and chemistry between Arbella and Magnus is sizzling passion and the story is fascinating between an English heiress and a Scottish Laird set during the times of Robert the Bruce and William Wallace.

Marin’s Promise by Madeline Martin
Wonderful new beginning to this new series Borderland Ladies. The Earl of Werrick has five daughter and Lady Marin Barrington is the oldest. She and upon her mother’s death she’s taken on the role of mistress of the castle and caregiver to her sisters. The Earl raised his daughters as warriors to learn to protect themselves as well as ladies. Each had a specialty, but they could all fight as well as a man. Bran Douglas is a border reiver, but now he’s a warrior on a mission he must take Werrick castle in order to save his sister’s life. What he doesn’t expect is that Marin won’t surrender easily. Bran soon learns he can’t hold the castle with Marin. Matters become more complicated as they become closer and passion over takes them. I loved this story of loyalty, trust and passions as these two battle for their families and each other to find their HEA!

Outlaw King by Julie Johnstone
Robert the Bruce fierce Scottish warrior would do anything to release his country from English rule even rebel against English rule. As the war wages around him Robert is surrounded by danger all around him with enemies on both sides out to get him. Elizabeth de Burgh finds herself ordered by her ruthless father and her godfather, the King of England, to seduce the leader of the Scottish rebellion. Robert remembers her when she was a young girl disguised as a squire in her father’s army and she helps to save many Scots from being burned alive by her father’s order. Now Elizabeth is a woman grown and a temptation he doesn’t have time for or need right now in this time of war where one misstep could topple his nation and cost him his life. As Robert and Elizabeth grow closer their love cannot be denied, but are they willing to risk everything for the one thing neither ever imagined they’d find a love so deep and rich it knows no boundaries. I loved this larger-than-life love story which is based on true to life events, history, loyalty and betrayal where a love that knows no boundaries despite the circumstances of them fighting for their country, for their lives and for themselves.

My Fierce Highlander by Vonda Sinclair
Laird Alasdair MacGrath is driven to end two-hundred years with the MacIrwins, he wants peace for his Clan. Gwyneth Carswell, is the daughter of an English Earl who has banished her and her son to the Scottish Highlands. She’s glad to be away from the clan wars of the MacIrwins, and their enemies, the MacGrath’s. Gwyneth a healer finds Alasdair after he’s been injured when the MacIrwin chief ambushes the MacGrath party leaving him for dead, she can’t just let him die and she knows has to hide him, or risk death. When her cousin learns of her treachery though, Gwyneth must flee to the MacGrath’s lands hoping that the fierce warrior she saved will protect them both. A great story of enemies and finding love and a HEA!
An excellent selection of stories I loved and I voluntarily wrote a review.

The Highlander's Reward Eliza Knight:
Magnus is a brawny highlander that swears he will never love a woman. He has just witnessed his sister and her lover and is sickened by the fact that now he must deliver her to him. He thought beating and sending him on his way was reward enough but no now she is expecting and he just needs to bless this marriage and be done with it. On his way home from his brother-in-law's home he comes across a battle and aids Wallace in defeating the small group of English. In the process he sees a beautiful woman in danger. He sets out to help her. Arbella is on her way with her father to wed and Englishman (of Scottish Heritage) in Stirling. She is not too happy. Her father is with her and on the way gets caught in battle. She is separated and in danger when this hunk saves her. He knows the only way to keep her safe is to take her home and marry her. Well both are quite taken but during married bliss (snort) comes trouble both in the highlands and from England. All will be well if they can just make it through the scorned and anger of a father!!!

Marin's Promise Madeline Martin:
Marin will risk anything to keep her family (3 sisters) and their home safe. While her father is away fighting, a reiver is holding her sister Cat hostage wants in their home. When she lets him in, her entire life will change. Bran is doing the most dispectable thing possible. He is holding an innocence woman hostage to gain access to a castle. He does it only to save his sister Ena who is being held hostage. What he doesn't bargain is these sisters. He has entered a castle protected by Warriors. Each has a skill and he doesn't want to be on the receiving end of their wraith. He does what he must. His sister's life is at stake. When the sisters run to "safety" their lives are threatened. Marin must get Bran to help her save them. She offers marriage and he takes it. Only when the two trust each other and share why each are ready to battle do they put their heads together and save both families.

My Fierce Highlander Vonda Sinclair:
Gwyneth is banished for loving a man who doesn't want to marry her. She lives in the highlands and now almost 6 years later along with her 5 year old son Rory she still can't accept all the fighting. When her clan leaves men to die she (now a trained healer) decides to save a life. That life just happens to be the leader of the clan her family wants destroyed. She does save the Laird's life and once again she is in need. She and her son turn to Alasdair and hopes he and his clan will help her. He takes her in and soon the two fall in love. She doesn't want her son to live in the Highlands because of all the warring. Soon her love is threatened. Maxwell Huntley (the FORMER Marquess of Southwick) wants what is his. Even if he means to harm his son. When her son and love are threatened Gwyneth turns from peace loving to warrior in second flat. Maybe deep down she is a fierce Highland warrior!!!

Outlaw King Julie Johnstone:
WOW! This legendary story of Robert the Bruce was incredible. The story grips you from the beginning and doesn't let up. Its starts with Robert fighting alongside King Edward's man Richard Og de Burgh , de Burgh is about to lay siege to Moray castle. Robert refuses to burn men and women alive so he disobeys de Burgh's orders. While trying to figure out how to free the Moray soldiers from a building before de Burgh can burn it a young squire throws the torch into the moat and releases the men. de Burgh orders the squire to be killed when suddenly the squire removes his helmet to reveal it is actually de Burgh's 12 year old daughter Elizabeth. She lets Robert know she is for Scotland and runs off to her father. Fast forward 5 years and Robert and Elizabeth meet again. This time Robert must take a knee to the King so the killing stops and in exchange the King will give him Elizabeth. Only nothing is that easy! Elizabeth is charged with "seducing" Robert for info on William Wallace and if she doesn't obey her beloved cousin Lillianna will be killed. Robert does have feelings starting but is reminded often by his friend and fellow Scot Angus, Never trust a lass. Elizabeth shares the truth with Robert so he and Angus decide to rescue Lillianna and then the two can overcome the King. Again not so easy!

There is so much rich deep history in this book. You really feel the emotion and tension of what Robert and Elizabeth must have faced. Every turn was a struggle and you never knew whether they would make it through. Just when one problem was solved another two appeared. This story was truly captivating! You will not be disappointed!

THE HIGHLANDER’S REWARD by Eliza Knight.....5 stars

This was such a wonderful story! A tough Scottish Laird who has no time for love, rescues an Englishwoman who is in the Highlands to marry a man the King has chosen for her. Plans have a way of going to the wayside, though, and before she knows it, Arbella finds herself married to Magnus, the only way he can protect her. Problems abound, though, when he brings her to his home and his clan finds out she is English....the enemy!

Amidst the battles between England and Scotland, a passion grows between Arbella and Magnus but with danger all around them and not knowing who to trust, it makes for a very intriguing adventure!! Eliza Knight never disappoints with her stories and this is no exception. Well written and definitely recommend.

MARIN’S PROMISE by Madeline Martin.....5 stars

I found this to be such an amazing story! Marin and her sisters have been brought up knowing how to fight and boy, do they do it well!!! I love how feisty they are and I'm really looking forward to reading the other sisters' stories as well.

This is Marin and Bran's story. You will be swept away by all they go through to get their HEA...battles, secrets, heartache, revenge, passion, etc. Marin, being the eldest of her sisters, has always been the one to take care and protect them. Bran will do anything to free his sister from enemy clutches. When the two come together, it's a clash of wills and sparks fly.

Madeline Martin never ceases to amaze me with her writing and this story is no exception.

MY FIERCE HIGHLANDER by Vonda Sinclair.....5 stars

Now I want to go out and find myself a Highlander like Alasdair! This story has everything you'd ever want to read in a Highlander historical romance and more!! I loved both Gwyneth and Alasdair's characters and my heart ached for both of them for what they'd gone through in the past and what they had to go through before they reached their HEA.

Gwyneth will do anything to protect her son and all the decisions she makes have one goal....to do what is best for Rory. When she finds herself seeking the protection of the man whose life she saved, passions flare and danger abounds. Alasdair is the Laird of his clan and is such a strong hero, physically and emotionally. Never a dull moment in this story, it's fast paced and so well written.

OUTLAW KING by Julie Johnstone......5 stars

This is Julie Johnstone at her best! Many historical romance books mention Robert the Bruce but this is the first time I read a romanticized story of Robert and Elizabeth and I absolutely loved it!!! Delve into a world when the Scottish Rebellion is taking place, led by none other than Robert the Bruce, the man who would be King. Amidst all the horrors of war, Robert must pretend to kneel to King Edward 1 and his pretense is made harder when he falls in love with Elizabeth, the King's goddaughter. Trust is something they have to work hard at and even then, many enemies surround them and can strike at any moment.

I loved the true passion Robert and Elizabeth share, their story is written so well, you can feel every emotion, be it love, fear, hurt, worry, happiness, etc. I realize it's just fiction but I'd like to believe they did have such a love:)

Four Firsts of Series in One Boxset.

The Highlander’s Reward by Eliza Knight 5*
A marriage for protection. Arbella doesn’t want to marry a man she has never met and live far from her family amongst the Scottish barbarians but having turned down marriage in the past, the king has insisted she be married and Marmaduke Stewart has agreed to be that man. When her guards and her are caught up in the aftermath of the Scots victory at Stirling Bridge, she is rescued and carried away by a highland laird. In order to protect her from attack, Magnus Sutherland marries her enroute to his stronghold. This however places Dunrobin Castle and his clan in danger - firstly he was betrothed to his neighbour’s daughter and Clan Ross are unhappy, then there is the small matter of Arbella’s father and her cuckolded intended.
Thoroughly enjoyable story.

Marin’s Promise by Madeline Martin 5*
Strong women, passion, battles and bloodshed. Marin is the eldest of five warrior sisters but her father’s castle is taken without a fight when she yields it to save a sister’s life. A proud and strong woman she plans to murder Bran and take back the castle but her plans go awry. A good strong novel.

My Fierce Highlander by Vonda Sinclair 5*
Addictive, flowing story. Seduced by a rogue, banished by her family, married to a brute, then hunted by her murderous second cousin. Gwyneth has not had an easy life, the one light in her world is her five year old son, for whom she would sacrifice anything, even the chance of a love like she has never known before. Great story with well fleshed out characters. Highly recommended.

Outlaw King by Julie Johnstone 4*
Gritty, Moving and Passionate. The fictional story of the marriage between Robert the Bruce and Elizabeth de Burgh. History tends to discount women (having been written by men) so little is known about Elizabeth. Ms Johnstone gives them a passionate, romantic relationship alongside the brutal fight for Scottish independence. I cannot say that I particularly enjoyed reading about man’s inhumanity to man but I accept that it would be difficult to write about this period and not include these aspects. (In fact several centuries later they were still carrying out these barbaric acts - an ancestor of mine was executed for high treason).

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this boxset from one of the authors. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
