A Home of Your Own : Housing First and ending homelessness in Finland

Rate this book
Since 2008 the national homelessness strategy in Finland has been based on the Housing First model. The idea of Housing First is simple yet radical: to give permanent housing and the support they need as soon as they become homeless. The model works - Finland is the only country in Europe where the number of homeless people is on the decline.

A Home of Your Own - Housing First and Ending Homelessness in Finland describes the model in detail. It also gives a voice to the people who now have homes in supported housing units or scattered housing. The book has been written for decision-makers and professionals to provide them with tools and inspiration for improving the lives of the homeless in their home countries.

A Home of Your Own was published by the Y-Foundation, one of the key national developers of the Housing First principle. The Y-Foundation offers affordable rental housing and encourages public discussion on themes related to homelessness.

Recommended for everyone who cares for a stable and honest society.
Mandatory for everyone who is getting a income out of homelessness (workers in the care industry).

Described are basic actions for stabilising and reducing homelessness.
A very hopeful development in a world of carelessly created homelessness.

That doesnot end homelessness ofcourse.
Therefore are really changes in infrastructure necessary and wanted!

Personally I think that something as 24/7 'daycare' (basic living conditions and improvised sleeping) is a necessity and a rethinking of structuring homes.
