Elementum Genus #2

Claiming Family

Rate this book

Sera’s found the men she’s meant to be with, but can she find a family, too?

Sera has found her Genus with JJ, Brooks, and Souta, three elemental men she with whom she now shares unbreakable bond. With their help, she’s tracked down her father, a man she’s never met before and who she hopes will be able to finally answer her questions.

But going from loaner to dating three guys and discovering a family comes at a higher cost than Sera ever expected. Used to being a loaner, Sera’s now unsure who she’s supposed to be, how she’s supposed to act, and if she’ll be able to hang on to herself in the process.

Then Sera gets the feeling of being watched, both at school and out on the streets. Who is stalking Sera, and what do they want? Will her new family and her Genus be able to protect her? Or will she break under the pressure?

Read other books by this author in the future: yes

It took the author a long time to write the second book in this series. I remembered that I liked the first book a lot, so I decided to go for the next one two.
This was an okay read. It was much about Sera finally have her 18th birthday the first day in her life, where she can find her Genus. And of course she finds out that the guys she got to know are her Genus. But also other secrets her dead mum never told anybody else but wrote her in a letter are revealed, which leads to a whole set of new problems for Sera.

On top of this the blurb give away that she is watched wherever she goes. But who is this person watching her. I was looking for more than the forming of a rh, a plot or something like this, but the first two books are basically about Sera finding her harem, hinting that there will be another twist in the story. And I have a pretty good guess what this will be, because the clues were not very hidden. All this leads to my three stars rating.

Sera has found her elemental Genus with JJ, Brooks, and Souta and she has found her father and more unexpected family. She went from being alone to being surrounded and she has no idea how to handle her new life. How can she be what each needs her to be? How does she keep everyone happy? What happens if she disappoints them? Will they leave her?

I am torn. Part of me really likes this series. I like the elemental factor and the idea of the Genus. I like that there are missing details about Seraphina. Why could she never find a home and why did the Concilium decide to keep moving her? Why is Chester obsessed with her and what is the symbol of the Embers? My conflict comes in with the characters. I like JJ and Brooks. I like Ash. I go back and forth with Souta. His immaturity bothers me. His jealousy, his insecurity aren't attractive. However, they are nothing compared to Sera's. I try to be understanding. Her background doesn't give her any experience dealing with others. It gets old though; the constant inner angst, the constant second-guessing, the lack of communication, the running. It just doesn't make for fun reading. Hopefully, it's behind us now. Equally problematic is Souta and Brook's relationship. I'm sure others will be fine with their relationship being on the same level (if not more important) than their relationship with Sera but I am not. I am fine with side sexual relationships and I want love and friendship between the entire group but I need for the female to be the center of the guys' world. Sera is not. This overshadows my enjoyment. I hope that as Sera grows into the relationship the guys' devotion centers more on her.

A problematic read for me, I tried to give Claiming Family up to the last page to draw me back in... but Sera's anger and angst failed to win me over.

Desi Lin put an impressive amount of layers and potential plotlines in this sequel, but the immaturity of a couple main characters left me unable to fully appreciate them. Throw in the changeable relationship dyanmics (which are admittedly unique from what I'm used to for this genre) and you have me confused and disappointed.

Holy smokes...

I have waited FOREVER for this book and guess what? Totally worth it!!! This book was even better than the first book and I cannot wait to see where book 3 takes us! I’m willing to wait forever again. 😉 My absolute favorite thing about both of these books? No cliffhangers! Each book could be read as a standalone with an over all plot arc. I love it!

Kind of a simple story line, with easy characters. Not much more going on this book. I wonder what the next book will bring as I am interested in a few mysteries that developed in this book.
If you enjoyed book one you do need to continue. I was on the fence and it looks like I'm still there. I really would love a book about her brother's genus.

I really like this book! A Nice book that takes you almost back to where the first ended- so you Get so much fun Packed into one book. But also a lot of drama, and some trouble mixed into the relationship between the four of them! Try it, you will not regret this :)

Great book 2!

This picks up pretty much where book one left off. The relationships between the characters get stronger and some mysteries pop up. I hope it isn't a long wait for book three.

awesome book

This book was emotional. Sara has been through so much . How she grew up she doesn’t know how to handle her emotions and now that she has a family and her guys everything is becoming too much .

Good read

I thought I was going to get my ending, but Desi left me with a cliffhanger LOL. Good story and a good writer. Will be waiting on the next installment
