The lying games... or the childish games?

I finished the first book but chose not to continue on to the second book. The characters are seriously emotionally stunted and gave me whiplash with their back and forth emotions. I mean their emotions changed with each sentence. “I want to talk it out... ugh I hate him... I just want to get past this...” make up y’all’s dang minds. Carter was extremely childish, basically came off pretty douchy, and holding on to a grudge from when Lacy was 16 years old. I get she hurt him, but it’s been 10 years.... be and adult and talk to her about it. I don’t like that she heard him screwing another girl, or that she pretended to screw another guy. also, what a ridiculous coincidence that Amy said “oh it would be funny if y’all end up being brothers” and then they really do end up being brothers... out of all the people in the world... two guys who are both professional basketball players for the same professional team end up being brothers. Unbelievable, sorry. And then the author even has Carter having suicidal thoughts because lacy is leaving... RIDICULOUS. So much anger, resentment and childish games could have been avoided had they just had one single conversation.

THE LYING GAME
This is a very good enemy to lover’s sports romance. An engaging story that will keep you captivated and glued to the pages of this fascinating storyline and the momentum of the story keeps you wanting to read more. This was a perfect blend of lust, steam, a little humor, and navigating the angst of love with the added complication of the lying game. Carter Flynn is very handsome, sexy, and hot as hell that you know you will get burned. He is a professional basketball player who is a millionaire and very arrogant, egotistical, overconfident, piously virtuous, and impatient—he does not beg anyone and he has little tolerance for anyone who lies. Lacy Benson is a dancer and she has known Carter since childhood, but a lie has changed their relationship to a love/hate relationship. What was the lie and who was responsible for it? Are the most dangerous lies the ones you tell yourself? Since this lie was told, Carter and Lacy hated each other—not dislike—not begrudgingly tolerate—hate! Lacy needs a favor from Carter, but the tension between them has reached its boiling point, and Lacy discovered that maybe she does not hate Carter, and maybe he doesn’t hate her—or maybe this is just another game. Is it or is it not a lying game? You will love this book, and it will draw you in from the beginning to the end.

THE END GAME
Wow, this book is simply phenomenal! This is the epic conclusion of the duet of the Love Games. Carter Flynn made a grave mistake by letting Lacy leave for New York. The tension between Lacy and Carter has reached its boiling point. Still, Lacy is not willing to give him another chance because Carter is not one to make a commitment. When they finally see each other again, the chemistry is off-the-chart hot, but will Lacy be able to trust Carter knowing there will be no commitment? Will Lacy need to move on? If you are looking for a love story like no other you have read before, then this is definitely the book for you. I highly recommend this duet—you won’t regret it!

The Lying Game:

"So as our eyes lock, I feel like he's the hunter with precision focus, and I'm his doe-eyed prey."

Childhood friends, turned enemies are forced together many years later that erupted into a tension filled hate-to-love thrill ride between two very strong willed characters that left me swooning, laughing, and fanning myself. Carter is a hard nut to crack, has a ton of issues and drove me nuts the entire time in a good way, because when his light bulb finally lit up, I was mesmerized by the transformation!! Keep in mind this is a duet, however, so you'll get your fill of angsty happenings and unanswered questions that leave you salivating for the conclusion.

"Carter's broken me. I'm utterly and totally at his mercy."

With a host of fun secondary characters, an uber alpha male, and strong female lead you have a combination that left me glued to the pages. It was fun, hot, and intermingled with a whole host of deeper backstories begging to be investigated!! I absolutely cannot wait for the next book and I thank the Author for providing a copy to review!!

"He's broken down my heart's defenses, and all I can do is eagerly accept his assault."

~~~Erika, Book Haven Book Blog
The End Game:
"To possess her, is what I want. I want her to be all mine, to have and to hold and to cherish."
So much happened in this book, it was unreal!! Hot as all get out, pulse-pounding, angsty, really left me breathless and swooning!! The HEA was so worth all the moments that you thought it wouldn't happen, and how the story was all tied together was crazy!! This duet will take you for a ride and I think most readers with fall in love with this couple as much as I did! I thank the Author for providing a copy to review!!
"My heart swirls with all the mixed emotions I've felt for him over the past few days. Weeks. Years."
The Lying Game is a second chance, enemies-to-lovers story. Lacy and Carter have a long history. Their mothers became best friends in high school (a nod to Blackwell). They've known each other forever, been best friends, and then frenemies. I loved the push-pull between them, how the author slowly nudges them from hating each other (and yet insanely attracted to each other) to hating each other just a bit less over time. It's a slow build but the story moves along at a good pace. There were a couple of LOL moments. I loved the passion and drive each of the characters displays; the secondary characters were great with their plotting and banter. I loved everything about this solidly written book.
The End Game starts with Lacy in New York, dancing with Blue Illusion. This is the story that I wanted to read in the first book. I wanted Carter to man up and face all the things that were holding him back from living an amazing life. Lacy finally figured out what she was worth, what she deserved, and she stuck to her guns. But when Carter looks like he can be that man? They are electric together. I liked the action in the story, and how the couple stood in for Chandler. It seems that there might be a few more sibling stories in the works and hopefully an appearance by dear old dad. Fabulous conclusion to an excellent duet.
I received copies of these books. My honest review is voluntarily provided.
This is the perfect way to get these two wonderful reads with one simple click and no pesky wait time due to that cliffhanger at the end of book one. This duet includes:
The Lying Game (Love Games, #1)
This is a great read and a fantastic start to this duet. It is book one of two, so prepare yourself for a cliffhanger. The book features a well written and engaging storyline, complicated characters and lots of powerful emotions. Lacy and Carter's romance is an enemies to lovers story. Emotions run very high and there is plenty of tension between these two as their past and present are forced to collide. Past sins and repressed feelings will have to be dealt with if these two can ever move forward. A very entertaining and enjoyable read. Eagerly awaiting the conclusion in book two.
The End Game (Love Games, #2)
This is conclusion of Carter and Lacey story and it brings all the powerful emotions, drama, steam, twists, intensity and angst you could ever want. I love these characters and have been rooting for them every step of the way. Carter and Lacey's chemistry is sizzling and the scenes between them are smoking hot. Unfortunately, even though they have been through quite a bit, they have more hurdles to clear before they get that HEA. Can Carter redeem himself and win back Lacey? Read this enjoyable book to see for yourself. Trust me, you will not be disappointed. I am posting a truthful and totally voluntary review.
Both books in the series are included here.
Needs a bit more editing.
Book #1 gives us the history of Carter and Lacy. High school sweethearts who are derailed by a secret from Carter's life. Fast forward about 10 years, and Carter's mom asks him to put Lacy up for the summer in Chicago. He's playing for the local NBA team and Lacy is trying out for a dance company position. Old hurts and sparks resurface. By the end, Carter is dealing with more life altering truths and Lacy is moving on to New York. Will there ever be a time for them?
Book #2 picks up several months later. While Lacy is trying her best to move on, Carter can't get her out of his mind. He finally decides enough is enough and goes after his girl. She isn't having it though. As they both try to move forward without the other, secrets in Carter's life keep bursting open. The root of the secrets threatens to totally destroy all that Carter holds dear. Will he be able to lay the demons of the past to rest? Will Carter and Lacy be able to trust and love each other?
Overall, this was a pretty good story. Carter has some major things in his past that need to be addressed as they seriously impact his future. Lacy needs to learn to trust in the changes in Carter. At the end, I'm left wondering how the other people involved react to the outing of the big secret. Hmmm.... Enjoy!
The Lying Game -book #1
Best yet!!!!
Oh Carter and Lacy,,,, where do I start with these two!!! This book was filled with so much angst, and love/hate, that it kept me on the edge! The games these two play! Haha!!! And lacy's best friend, Lance, gah! Love him!!
This book has it all! There's a little of all Mickey's series tied into this one, and we get to revisit one of my favorite characters ever!!
This book ends in a cliffy, but no worries, the next one comes out soon!
If you like angst, you'll love this! If you want a lot of laughs, you'll love this! If you like enemies to lovers, you'll love this!!
This is a MUST read!!
The End Game - book #2
Holy Crap!!!! What a way to end the Duet! This is the continuation of the first book, The Lying Game, so you NEED to read that first!
Carter and Lacey have had their share of issues with each other, but through it all, they always loved each other, even if they were to stubborn to admit it. In this final book, Mickey Miller ties in characters from the Blackwells Series, and oh man did this get deep! There are twists and turns I never saw coming! Just when you think you know, BAM, plot twist! I really enjoyed this series and I know you will too! Now, if only we could get a book on Joseph and Lance!
This was originally a seperate duet and I couldnt be happier that this has now become one complete story. Carter and Lacy were teenage sweethearts, torn apart by lies who have now ended up sharing Carter's apartment while Lacey tries to make her dream of dance become a reality. Carter is a professional sportsman and has everything a pro baller could want, so Lacey interrupting his summer of bachelorhood is definitely putting a crimp in his playboy ways. However, even though they hate each other, their sexual chemistry says otherwise. Some of the evil pranks they played on one another had me in absolute stitches. I loved Lance and Joseph, they were great as side characters.
In book two End game, Lacey has moved back to New York after Carter broke things off. He is still trying to deal with learning the truth about his birth father and all the step brother and sisters that may be out there. Lacey wants to give him a second chance but doesn't know if she can trust him. There is an absolutely epic climax and I loved every minute. A fantastic ending!
Love this enemy to lover's sport romance. This duet will keep you wanting more. There are so many emotions that go with this story Lacy and Carter have a relationship that is full of every emotion this book is full of powerful emotions they run high and the story line keeps you engaged at all times. The tension in this book is enough to keep you wanting more. This book is sexy full of steam there are a lot of emotions book one leaves you with a bit of a cliff hanger but book two will make up for that.
The End Game
While Lacy tries her best shot at getting Carter no matter what he does he can't get her out of his head. Cater finally pulls himself together and goes for the girl. But Lucy isn't having any of that Carter's past starts to come to light will this take everything he hold dear from him or will he be able to put the demons to rest. Can they learn to trust and love one another? This duet is full of all the feels it will take you on a crazy ride of emotions and it is well written. Their chemistry is off the charts these two go through a lot before they get the HEA. This story will not disappoint.
Lacey and Carter's story is such a rollercoaster ride, and I enjoyed every second of it. The plot twists are great, the banter is super fun, and the steamy scenes left me in a puddle. I not going to lie, I've always been biased when it comes to romance novels and usually won't read books written by male authors due to past experiences being...not great. But Mickey knows what definitely knows what he's doing! The friends-to enemies- to lovers is a favorite trope of mine, and the dynamic between Lacey and Carter as they figure out what they are to each other was so fun to read. The side characters bring a great exterior dynamic to the story, and I love how they all interact with each other. I'd honestly be best friends with Lacey's friend Lance if he were real, he's such a fun character. The ending had me holding my breath for a bit, but it was worth the wait getting to the finale. If you're looking for a quick and easy to read enemies-to-lovers romance with plenty of spice, grab this duology!
Wow! This has so much hate, angst and steam it puts most books to shame. A story of a small town girl and a small town boy, love beginning to blossom when a lie rips them apart. Boy grows up to be successful and rich and still harbors hate in his heart. Girl grows up and struggles, still chasing her dream with hate in her heart. A last minute trip ends with them becoming roommates and that’s just the start of the beginning of the end. Animosity and lust fill the air. Then it explodes and truths start to set them free until the past leaps out for one more bite of solid destruction. Ripped apart again. It’s worth fighting for. So much behind the scenes, drama and even fear. Pain lives within their souls until determination turns the tide. True love and the truth will set them free.
Another fantastic book from Miller. We get so far into to the twisted mind, we believe we are living the story with them. Phenomenal escape.
First off I’m new to Mickey’s books. I was introduced to him on Monday. I’m really glad I was introduced to his books, just from this one books I already know I’m going to love the writing in all of his books. This is such a great read and a fantastic start to this duet. It is book one of two, sorry but just prepare yourself for a cliffhanger, don’t fret the second book is also out 😏. The book features a well written & engaging storyline, complicated characters and lots of powerful emotions. Lacy and Carter's romance is a second chance but also an enemies to lovers story. Emotions do run very high and there is plenty of tension between these two as their past and present are forced to collide. Such an entertaining and enjoyable read. I love the characters and there banter. I loved Carters cockiness as well as Lacy’s stubbornness. I couldn’t put it down. I’m now a huge Fan of Mickey Millets books.
I am so happy to see this duet as a set!! Loved these two books!!!
The Lying Game:
They're lying to themselves...will they figure it out?
Aarrgghh, I love and hate cliff hangers! So good! Carter is a sexy beast with issues. Lacy is one of those issues. Snappy dialog. Steamy heat. Friends to enemies to lovers. They want to hate each other but they can't deny their attraction to each other. I can't wait for the other half!! I couldn't stop once I started!
The End Game:
Perfect ending! Loved it!
After not so patiently waiting for the ending to that cliffhanger we were left with, I am VERY satisfied with the conclusion of Carter & Lacy's story. All the delicious steaminess you could desire with all the twists and turns of those crazy Blackwell citizens and their friends & family!
This is the first time that I got to read these books and I am so happy that I was able to get the chance. I love a good enemies to lovers’ story and for it to be a sports romance as well, I feel like I hit the jackpot. These are two of my favorite tropes. Carter and Lacy were childhood friends but things happened and that friendship changed to hatred. Watching them navigate around each other again and realize that the feelings that they had for each other never left was so good. Loved every second of this set and to be able to go right into book 2 after the cliffhanger was a joy. I am not a fan of cliffhangers when I have to wait for the next book to come out. If you haven’t had to pleasure of reading Carter and Lacy’s story, you need to get this set. You won’t be disappointed at all. A definite one click. Highly recommend it.
Absolutely love this duet! It’s hot and steamy. Carter and Lacey have chemistry off the charts. Only thing is... they have had a love/hate relationship since high school. Will they make their relationship solid?
Carter is the MVP in the NBA in Chicago. Lacey is going to Chicago to dance for 8 weeks, looking to tryout for New York dance team. Their mom’s are best friends, and when it turns out Lacy needs a place to stay, she ends up at Carter’s. Let the banter begin.
On a side story, Carter and one of his teammates never knew who their father was. They do a gene test and results come back that they are brothers. Crazy, right! Unfortunately, their father doesn’t want to be found. Will it be wise to pursue finding out or is it in Carter’s best interest to let it rest.
There is a lot going on in this fabulous sexy duet. It’s enough to keep you glued to your kindle.
4.5 stars!! Who loves a second change romance turned enemies to lovers turned roommates?! This duet packs everything you could want!
Carter is such an a** and yet you can’t help but fall for him. His extensive history with Lacy makes the build up and sexual tension so much better. The constant push and pull of their relationship had me breaking out in a sweat to see what was going to happen. The angst was real, the relationship was raw and the scenes were HOT, I was fanning myself off at some parts.
I couldn’t wait to start book two, and when I did oh man was my heart in the pit of my stomach for the majority of the book. I was feeling so many types of ways. The couple went through so much, you heart shattered and ached for them.. but finally at the last moment Mickey releases the grip on your heart and gives you what you need and all is well♥️
Discrepancies
In the first book, Carter couldn't have been Jake's son, his real father used his DNA as if he was Jake to throw people off, but Carter didn't share Jake's real DNA. In the second book, Jeff and Jake are identical twins, Carter is Jeff's son. What the heck? Did the writer suddenly forget what was written in the first book? And then Lacy's father needed a liver transplant and the doctor said that for him to get a donor someone had to die suddenly. Again, what the heck? Everyone knows the liver is the only organ that regenerates so a living family member can donate a piece of it. Oh, and the ancestry DNA test was done with a hair strand. What the heck? It's not a drug test, it's DNA, spit in a tube will suffice.
Great Read ❤
The book had alot of intense moments that will have you (what's nexting?)...I had to give it 4stars cause I found myself skimming some because there was too much in the head going on...over all it was interesting..had lots going on in part one and two but I do feel as though there should have only been one...at the end of the first they should of just hooked up...he went his whole life not knowing his father why find him now? You dont need him now. It was a good book was glad when it ended though and glad to see they married and her dad made it! Last never did explain to him about her finance issue being about her dad it was left out...Carter had to do explaining for everything it seemed
If you're familiar with Mickey's writing, this duet is a return to his roots. He weaves angst, love, heat, and hilarity with an underlying sports theme. He brings back a few favorite characters from earlier books as well the small town of Blackwell. You heard Carter's name before, now get his story!
Mickey connects his stories, without making it mandatory to have read the others (though I highly suggest starting with Playing Dirty and just reading in published order.) This makes his books easy to follow and quite enjoyable.
As someone who connects emotions with pop culture, there are great references to music and media in all of his books - this being no exception.
Download this version of the duet and get 2 for 1 in the boxset!
Book 1:
Sometimes, when you have read every single book by an Author, you think... "There is nothing that they can do that will surprise me." Welp! I was wrong! Mickey has surprised me and surpassed all of my past favorites with this one. Now, The Casanova Experience, used to be my favorite book hands down! Then Mickey takes my favorite character and includes him in my new favorite Duet! OMG!
Book 2:
Phenomenal ending to the Duet. This Duet did make me go on one helluva emotional roller-coaster. Had me all up in my feels. I couldn't have been happier with the ending. Pissed off at what I had to go through to get it though. Totally a one sitting read!!!
Oh my!!! Can I just say I truly needed this book?! Seriously haven’t found a book that satisfies me like this one did, since the “Driven” series. This one did it for me, I’m just so happy that I came across this book. Storyline keep me engaged, and page turning indeed. You know there is something to be said about a male author, because Mickey sure knows what he’s doing. He writes in such a lovely way, truly magical how he hits the nail on the head with ease. I just love this book, gave me all the feels and I cannot get enough! Thank you, thank you! In these times, I really needed this especially since we’re staying at home now.
I loved Carter's and Lacey's story. I laughed, cried, sighed and swooned many times! I couldn't turn the pages fast enough to see how things would turn out. Yes, Carter and Lacey do have their HEA - but make no mistake, it's not a quick journey. Carter has to work and prove himself – as he should! I also loved the cameos with characters from previous books. I don't know about anyone else, but I grow to love my favorite characters and am always glad to see them pop up in a story. Finally, count your luck stars that this duet is bundled together so there is no wait for the conclusion!
This is a one time read story.
This story could have been condensed into one book. I loved the main male character, Carter. As for the female character, Lacy...not so much. She was annoying and not at all what Carter needed. I lost count of how many times she ran from him....dumped him. She didn't trust him even when he bent over backwards for her. Sorry...couldnt see her truly loving him.
Books I enjoy, I read them over and over again but this is a one time read story.
Frustrating at times
I wanted to really like this book. I tried. A high school couple who break up and get back together several times. The problem no trust, poor communication. The same problems one would expect from a high school romance. Unfortunately they are in their late 20's when the story takes place. The story could be good, the writing and editing were great. I just never made an attachment with the main characters. They were not very likeable. I will try again with another book by this author.
The Lying Game: Heartbreak, lies, revenge, angst, scorching chemistry, second chances and plenty of steam... The Lying Game is everything an enemies to lovers romance story should be.
The End Game: Angst, drama, suspense, danger, humor, witty banter, turmoil, a few twists, heartbreak, forgiveness, love and awesome epilogues... everything I love in a well written, emotional and sexy sports romance story.
Mickey does it again with a super intense and fun read. A kinkier mickey that’s for sure. The characters are complex and the sex is haf. Trouble with complex characters is they don’t go down easy, which is why this is long and in two parts. Originally two books. Carter and Lacey have had their share of miscommunication but once they get over one lie it’s harder for them one of them to get over the lies they tell themselves.
Wow! What an amazing Duet! I loved it! It was an emotional ride of twists and turns, drama, danger and hot, steamy sexiness! I loved Carter and Lacy! They’ll make you laugh, cry and through your arms up and ask why! They had explosive chemistry probably because they never stopped loving each other. The Lying Game Duet was such a fantastic story! I recommend it to everyone! Read it a you’ll love it too!
Fun but unrealistic
This seems to be a pattern with this author—stories that just don’t seem realistic. I thought the main female character was a bit of a wimp and the main male character was too much of a jerk right up until he wasn’t. There are few editing errors and no cliffhanger.
A minor point: the Game of Throne references are incorrect. The name is spelled Arya, not Aria. And there are NO lyrics to the Theme song.
Aargh! What a douchebag this Doonesbury guy turned out to be. Though I did want to whack Carter more than a few times. And I have to be honest. I was a bit ticked off at Lacy too. She could have fought a bit harder for him instead of playing the victim. But over all I guess they were challenging circumstances with a sick puppeteer behind them. At least there’s a satisfying end to all that pompousness and a lovely HEA.
This was great! I’m glad I read this duet together. One book was definitely not enough!
I wanted to scream at both Carter and Lacy a time or two. Both did dumb things and made stupid assumptions while trying to figure out if their mutual attraction could lead somewhere. I expected that. But I didn’t expect such excitement and intrigue in the second half of this duet! I can’t say I wasn’t expecting it but it was definitely entertaining from beginning to end! 5 stars!
