Reaper's Pet #2

Caged Prey

Rate this book
I’ve lived a sheltered, privileged, silly life.
All it takes is one moment to go away.
And now my role is simple.

To be prey.

The Reapers burned everything.
They destroyed and looted the space port that we had stopped in.
They…He…killed everyone that tried to defend me.
Broke them with his bare hands.

Bathed in their blood before throwing me over his shoulder.

He caged me.
Leashed me.
Scared me.

But he also trained me.
Protected me.
Fed me.

And loved me.

I am now his.
Juliana, the Princess I used to be is dead.
From her ashes, is a woman who is stronger.
Darker.
Aware of the madness of this galaxy.

I don’t expect many to understand.
They wouldn’t understand the darkness he comes from.
Or the twisted madness of the galaxy.

They’d say we’re sick.
That this is madness.
It’s not.
It’s a real love between us.

And it will kill all who stand against us.

Caged Prey explores a much darker and much more gritty Athenaverse than in other books. Readers should be warned that the situations inside this book are of a much darker variety than other books in the Athenaverse and should exercise caution. All books share the same universe and feature a happily ever after.

Athena Storm

Athena Storm is the pen name for two authors who fell in love with writing science fiction romance as they fell in love with each other.

She's the Athena. And he's the Storm. Athena hopes that one day it won't be a boyfriend/girlfriend writing duo, but a husband/wife team. But she's not pressuring at all. Not one bit.

Science fiction is the biggest love for the writing duo, and they've been doing the writing for quite some time now, building a universe that readers can get lost and explore in. Filled with big bad alien warriors, sassy human women who give as well as they get, hilarious situations, and enough steam to melt stars!

The duo have created the Athenaverse, where all books in all series are tied together. You can start anywhere but once you do, you'll want to explore them all!

When they get married, they plan to continue writing science fiction romance forever. But again, no pressure on the marrying part. Not at all. (Not like writing Happily Ever After ALL Day won't give you any ideas on its own, right?)

This is certainly dark, but not in a BDSM sort of way, though there is a little of that as well. There's also gore, a couple of slightly squeamishy bits, and the fact that we're sympathizing with a group that pillages and murders. Certainly they were wronged, but they aren't exactly fighting for justice at this point.

Goran and Juliana live in opposite worlds, yet both worlds require a stringent set of expected behavior, any deviation of which could be met with severe consequences. Juliana has been kept in an emotional stupor - never allowed to show or feel too much joy, displeasure, annoyance, fear, pain, etc... When she sees the slaughter Goran and the other Reapers commit on a stop over planet, she's fascinated on a very sociopathic level. She's never been allowed to see such demonstrations of emotions, nor such freedom or disregard from everything around them. Her interest almost morphs into an "I want to play, too" when she semi-challenges Goran by catching his weapon... And they become hooked on each other.

Juliana experiences all of the most extreme emotions all at once, and after being so numbed for so long, she essentially becomes addicted, exchanging one emotionally unhealthy lifestyle for another. But along with having her senses opened up to new experiences, she's also exposed to new knowledge and new perspectives that help to solidify the direction she chooses to go in.

And I do have to say, emotion is something that the author certainly makes the reader feel. A portion of the story is utterly heartbreaking, and the reader can't help but feel the grief along with the characters!

Gross just absolutely gross

I'm all for a little dirty naughty stuff but dang these women take it to a whole new level of gross. I mean dude took a literal bite out of this girl and don't even get me started on his cleaning up her backside after he finished then giving her a big ole sloppy kiss UGH!! Makes me want to brush my teeth. I don't know why I continue to read this authors work half of it doesn't make sense because she doesn't have a reading order to help those who are just starting out know which book to read first but I guess it's because I have nothing else to read and it was free for KU subscribers so if you are a subscriber i would just say beware but if I had to pay NO WAY!

This book is horrid. I don’t care about the kink shaming at all if you’re into blood whatever knock yourself out WITH CONSENT but this book. Omg the rage. “I’m catching way too much feeling off her. I realized I don’t wanna let her go. I also don’t ever want to be her bitch” then he leaves the room after the consummation scene. Putting a negative spin on after care, non consent and toxic masculinity all wrapped up into one toxic radiation poising burrito. Don’t waste your time on this swill and if you’re a mxn reading this. Don’t do this! If you’re a womxn this is not love or romance. This is abuse. Safe. Sane. Consensual.

Juliana is a sheltered lady of the upper class groomed to be the perfect wife. She will discover she has surprising instincts. Goran is a berserker who lives for the kill and the spoils of war. When he sees Juliana he takes her. What happens when her family offers millions to get her back? Will Goran be able to protect her from his crew? “Caged Prey” is a dark sci-fi romance with violence, drama, and newly discovered emotions. Their meeting leads to an awakening for both of them. I liked their animalistic chemistry, the detailed descriptions of another world & various aliens, and the update at the end about characters from other books. Another great read in this series.

I received this book as a gift to and having read it I would like to give an honest opinion of what it is that I have read.

I will admit that this book is so much different from the other books. You need to be warned that there is extreme sexual encounters, there is extremely graphic battles that go on. So if any of these thing could and may cause triggers for some people.
Juliana is a princess that is going off to find her future husband. All of her life she has been trained to not show any emotion. When she did they gave her something to calm her down. There were times each day that a slave would come in and give her along with the other women pills. Basically trying to keep them in a drugged state of mind. The ship that she was traveling on had to stop at a port that is located on the furthest reaches of their space close the to Badlands.
This is when the Reepers attack the port. Berserker in it the front killing everyone as they go and Gorgan is the head of them and the first to read the security cube that she and the others are in It is suppose to protect them. Everyone in the cube runs to the back except her she is just fascinated watching Gorgan working his killing chain. She had been standing perfectly still he didn't even notice her until she reached out and grabbed his chain without getting hurt. It was something that no one has ever done before. After all is said and done he takes her throws her over his shoulder and chains her in his cabin.
So many things happen in this book. You learn the true history of the Reepers and how they became. Juliana’s eyes will be opened along with her feeling emotions for the first time in her life. She learns hard truths and the question is will she be able to handle what she learn, or will she bee about to keep up with the Reepers and try and create something new and different.

Ok. Mixed feeling on this one. This one needs a bit more editing, to be sure. The story didn't always flow forwards. You frequently get to read the same scene twice, once from her perspective, and once from his. But this was mostly in the first half.

Goran and Juliana are total opposites. And completely drawn to each other. She is an entitled princess who has been taught from birth to not feel emotion. Goran is a Reaper, and a berserker. He is a front line soldier who goes in and murders everyone he sees so his crew can come in behind him and steal and loot. So yeah, anti hero to the extreme. Multiple times we see blood splattering and limbs leaving bodies.

But this is all for a good reason. Right? Lets take revenge on the people who murdered our planet 3 to 400 years ago. Cause, you know, why not? It's what we do. We fight. Because we are Reapers!

Juliana, once she breaks out of the mold she has been raised into, transforms quickly into a sassy mouthed laughing vixen. Able to do anything. Loves life. Loves sex. Loves her man. Her character transformation is quick. It seems all she needed was to be scared, and then feel lust to break her chains, and become a new person. So maybe it was too quick. Doesn't matter. It was fun to read.

So yeah, a lot of political stuff going on here that I didn't understand all of. And for some reason, I read book 2 before book 1, so now I have to go fix that! Definitely enjoyed my afternoon of reading this. Will definitely read more. Don't expect deep drama here. This is sci-fi dark romance. With some dang kinky sex going on, as well...

Wow, so I had a little trouble finishing this.

I read in other reviews that there were trigger warnings. But after reading the first book I thought they were talking about the violence. Yes and no. I wish I would have been more prepared for when he bite a small chunk out of her leg and chewed it!! Then swallowed. And she screamed but not to worry, she is soon soothed and turned on, until she sees his manhood. THEN she starts screaming uncontrollably. What. The. Heck?

I like where this story is going. I like that the Reapers are starting to fight back against the corrupt factions that took their home.

But after this book I realized I didn’t love the characters. I didn’t really like Juliana. I thought she was a bit crazy. I didn’t think her character was very believable. She was raised in such a strict environment, and she just let loose too fast and started swearing like it was no big deal. It just didn’t seem to fit. I don’t think her reactions were normal. And she kind of turned into something I didn’t like. Maybe if her transformation was more gradual it wouldn’t be such a big deal, but it was too much too quick.

Also something I found super annoying, was at the end of a chapter when it would switch POV’s a lot of times it would go back to the scene I just read and I would then have to read it from the other persons POV. I hated that. I wanted the story to move and it felt like it dragged on because I kept having to reread something I JUST finished reading.

THIS WAS BETTER THAN CAGED SLAYER FOR ME OR ANY OF THE OTHER INSTALLMENTS OF THIS SERIES MAINLY BECAUSE I ALWAYS LIKE TO READ THE BIG, BADDEST ANTI-HERO'S STORY AND WELL, I LIKE THE MC COUPLING HERE.

GORAN compared to some of the reapers has heart, despite his fearsome physical attributes or no matter how he plays the big bad wolf. As leader of the berserkers, he's a male with his own power and during a 'raid' on a human ship, he abducts the Princess (whom he didn't know at the time) because she brings forth something within him. I thought Goran and Juliana's first meeting was epic. Despite her fear, she's the only one who dared to 'provoke' him without even intending to do it. JULIANA herself is a Princess who actually just stood stock still in fear during the attack but she's also quite attracted to Goran who looks nothing human. Soon, the King wants his daughter back and offers a hefty prize for it. Goran on the other hand, never told the crew that he has a new pet hidden in his quarters, who also happens to be the great prize.

OVERALL it was a rather simple story, but I guess i enjoyed it mainly because of the pairing and nothing else. It's kind of like beauty and the beast, but in a sci-fi setting.

Wow, this enthralling dark Sci-Fi romance certainly grabs the reader’s attention within the first few pages & keeps it until the last page. The well-written plot is intriguing & filled with unexpected events/situations. The development of the characters throughout the story-line is quite unique & they react with realistic emotional feelings to the unconventional situation that they find themselves in while some of the other characters are absolutely merciless.
There is: a beserker & reaper (Goran) notices a young virginal woman (Juliana) & decides to claim her for his pet not realizing how well she would fit into his world, Goran’s well-meaning manipulative brother (Gilian), drama, intrigue, suspense, action, adventure, twists & turns, threats, danger, violence, conflict, secrets, deceit, hatred, vengeful feelings, strange attractions, determination, confrontations, devious plans, self-sacrifice, compromises, steamy scenes & strangely enough there is contentment & happiness. I enjoyed reading this Sci-Fi romance & would recommend it.

Wow. This book was so intense I could not put it down. When the pampered Juliana is kidnapped by alien space pirates during a raid I just knew she was about to be ravaged at the very least. These aliens are called Reapers for a reason. Goran was just plain and simple....a savage. That the two of them could come together in the way they did was so dark, I just kept thinking OMG. But, I could not put it down. Juliana turns out to be a real bad azz female with as many violent tendencies as her alien lover once she gets a taste of freedom. I would say captivity and violence were definitely her cups of tea! (LOL) .This is not the book for the faint of heart but if you can get past some of the action scenes it IS a good story. I could say so much more but I refuse to review a book and include spoilers just know that the book and the universe the author writes about are intense, riveting, sometimes violent but immensely entertaining.

Wow this book just keeps on giving it’s raw and real right to the very end. Juliana has lived a sheltered life and has never wanted for anything and was conditioned to be the perfect wife and princess to her future husband but that all changes on the way when the ship she is on makes a stop over in a very dad spaceport and that’s when it happens the Reapers arrive and kill and take what they want and at the front of them all is the biggest palest berserker reaper she has ever seen and he makes his way to them inside a private box for safety but now Juliana thinks of it a prison cell. Once inside he kills many people with no care in the world and when he looks at me I don’t feel afraid I’m intrigued by him and then I’m taken over his shoulder back to the ship and taken to his room. What happens next to Juliana now that Goran has taken an interest in her and her body, read this great book to get the whole story.

A princess and a reaper could not be any more unlikely partners. Juliana is captured by a reaper and taken aboard as a pet. Goran, her captor, is a killer. Juliana has been trying her entire life to be a princess, polite, sincere, to never show any emotion, guilt, surprise, fantasy or insecurity. Goran has always been a warrior/killer and always will be. Who would think such opposites could actually be attracted to each other. Juliana has never been touched by a man, but Goran touch sets her on fire. She cannot imagine going back to her princess style life and wants to stay with Goran. She changes from a princess into a warrior, just like the reaper she is in love with. Savage, fearless, bloodthirsty and deadly. She feels like her life has just begun and her time as a princess was a waste. She is living life on her terms now, not by her parents. Great book. Would make a great action movie.

Wow this story is really dark and I’ve never read anything this dark before I did enjoy it but there was so much blood shed and brutality it certainly kept me reading right up until the end. Juliana was a princess she gets taken by the Reapers and Goran who is a Reaper is such a savage he wanted Juliana as a pet but Juliana becomes just as bad as the Reapers. I’m warning you guys now that if you’re squeamish then this book is definitely not for you, if these authors wanted to bring out the shock factor in this story well they certainly sure as hell done that. I enjoyed this story but I couldn’t stop saying what the **** but I do recommend this book to anyone that loves aliens that are savage.

This book is darker than most in her series. I do read dark romances so this did not surprise me in the blood and gore. The story of Juliana a privilege rich citizen (princess) who is on her way to select a prince and Goran, leader of the berserkers under Killarn his captain who takes the princess as his pet was interesting. Juliana during her time as a pet transforms under the tutorage of Goran. There are some sad and happy times in their story which pulled me in. Overall, I enjoyed the story and look forward to where this series is going. I volunteer to read and review this ARC via booksprout and the author.

This wasn't just dark it is brutal and shocking. Julianna has lived a sheltered life and Goran is the bloodiest Reaper of them all. There is so much suspense, action, the adventures they go on, lots and lots of violence and with all the emotions that Julianna was never allowed to have she went overboard. She became someone no one in her circle would even recognize. Julianna and Goran characters are fitting for both of them. They are perfect for each other. Julianna finds that Reapers have emotions and can actually love. This was quite a ride. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Reapers are a race of aliens that is feared (maybe like the vikings were for Earth), they are known for their violence, pillaging and taking what doesn't belong to them. Goran is the lead beserker, and he finds lots of joy in drawing blood and battle. Juliana is from a totally different world, she is a human raised in high society, and to suppress her emotions, so she can get the best husband. Unfortunately for Juliana, her ship stops on a planet, and the Reapers attack. I loved this unusual dark romance, that certainly had me questioning things and kept me engrossed.

Zora Black is new to me bit I’ve thoroughly enjoyed many books by Athena Storm so there was no way I’d miss checking out Caged Prey (Reaper's Pet Book 2). I’m glad I did, though it’s led me to discover that I have an addiction to “Dark SciFi Romance” previously unknown. (I’m hoping it’s just an addiction to these two authors works in that genre, as the “fixes” for my other reading addictions are already costly enough!) What Juliana goes through is mid boggling, and how it forgets her into a new person is the makings of a great (and yes, hot) tale. Totally thrilling I’m more ways than one, I definitely recommend this book.

Juliana is 100% spoiled rich girl. She’s on her, by herself, to be the perfect wife for some equally rich male. She has never been allowed to have any emotions. When she gets excited about something it’s removed from her presence or they sedate her. Then she meets the berserkers when the ship she’s on, stops for repairs. The berserkers are all emotions.....violent emotions. And for the first time, Juliana feels truly alive.
Teaser:
Even crying feels exhilarating. Its emotion. Its real. I can’t believe I almost spent my entire life never feeling anything. Worse than that—believing that feeling at all is wrong!

Dark, compelling, and eye opening

I may have enjoyed this book more than the first, which says a lot because I loved that one, too. I just couldn’t put this down. It touches on themes of genocide and other themes not for the faint of heart. I’m fascinated by the Reapers, and the more we learn about them, their past, their evolution, and the many hardships they’ve overcome as a race, the more endearing they are. In this tale, a pampered princess meets an orphaned berserker and they both finally learn what it means to truly live. It does end on a cliffhanger, and I’m so looking forward to reading the next book!

She is a princess, he is a Reaper (alien pirate) who steals her from the port.

This guy is savage.

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SOILER

He likes to eat people's flesh. So he enjoys taking bites out of her (little ones so she survives). To be fair, he also enjoys licking her all over.

He ties her up a lot and uses a leash when they are in public so the others won't hurt her.

His twin brother sacrificed himself to save him and the princess. She faked her death and now dyes her hair and goes by Lana, the feared Reaper's Berserker's pet who attacks space sports violently just like the Reapers.

This book was blood thirsty from the start. The Reapers show no mercy and enjoy the thrill of the chase. Goran spies Juliana and takes her as his pet. Their relationship really develops throughout the book, l especially liked how she developed into Goran’s mate. Goran’s twin brother played a pivotal role in ensuring that Goran and Juliana stayed together. A much darker book than some of Ms Storm’s previous ones but also a very interesting and well written one

ok this book got me.....there were some things I didn't like and some things that had the ability to grab me. The writing was superb and the characters were well developed with the addition of characters that I hope to see in future books. The one thing that I wondered through most of this story was is there a particular reading order for the books within this universe? Other than that it was an enjoyable read for me.

Athena storm has done it again, she has once again written an amazing book. Now this book is seriously dark she was not lying when she said it but I loved every minute of it. Now the kidnapped princess, falling in love with a monster (a reaper) and second-guessing your sanity and thinking you are a monster too because you love a monster is so amazing I can't wait to read more of her work but this book will have you your emotions running from panic, fear, anger and happiness. I can wait to see what twisted take she comes up with.

Dark and romantic. This is not your usual light, fluffy, love story. That being said, I truly loved this book. The characters are strong, forceful and know what they are. The princess had been raised to be almost an automaton. Feelings were bad, and no husband would want a wife that reacted emotionally. Sex is only for procreation and should never be enjoyed. When she was captured by the bezerker, she discovered her true self. A dark, emotional love story with a lot of violence! Great read!

Great look into the realm of the Reapers. Loved this story. Juiliana is a human princess traveling to another planet to continue her education to becoming the elite in society. Goran is a wild uncontrollable berserker from the Reaper society who kidnapped Juliana from a port after her shuttle unexpectedly lands there for service. The chemistry between these two is instantly felt. Hopefully this story is continued, it ended abruptly.

Wow this book was amazingly written. Once I started I couldn’t put it down till I was finished. This book has twists and turns you don’t know what’s happening. will they all get there happily ever after or will it all go wrong. To find out what happens go buy the book. This was a great book - a must read. Another one hit out of the ball park. This was definitely a little different from her usual books. The amount of emotion and chemistry between the characters was off the charts. You could totally feel the emotions of the characters which proves by the author is so good at what she does. You felt it more from this book. It was definitely a little more on the dark side but could so understand why. All I can say is that you have to read this book.

This was a well-written dark romance story by one of my favorite authors. This story was intriguing and violent and it had some very well-thought out scenes and story plots. These characters have very strong wills and personalities and she is in a constant emotional upheaval. This wonderful story has the following: intrigue, twists & turns, adventure, action, variety of races, humans, danger, defiance, determination, compromises, love, steam and a HEA. I am always on the lookout for books by this author.

Dark, dark, dark.

Let me start by saying, READ THE BLURB!
If you are not into what is described there or have an aversion to it, do NOT read this book.

If you will go in open-minded, this book is steamy and amazing and will push your boundaries and leave you breathless!

I loved everything about it - the characters, the plot, the emotion, the writing, and the ability that the author had to tell me a story that had me wanting this book to go on and on.
