Odd Gods #3

Odd Gods: The Oddlympics: A Critically Acclaimed Hilarious Middle Grade Book About Misfit Greek Gods for Kids

Rate this book
Diary of a Wimpy Kid meets Percy Jackson in Odd Gods, the critically acclaimed and hilarious illustrated middle grade series about the oddest Greek gods you’ve never heard about before. Oddonis and his misfit friends don’t exactly love competition and they aren’t exactly athletes. So they’re definitely NOT excited when their middle school gets challenged to a sports competition by the Roman middle school on the other side of Mount Olympus. It’s bad enough that the Greek Odds have to compete against their Roman twins, but when Zeus and his Roman counterpart, Jupiter, get a little too involved, the Greek and Roman kids end up in a competition over who gets to run the WHOLE mountain. Will the Greek Gods and Odds find a way to work together to defeat the Romans, or will they have to leave their hilltop home…forever? Get ready to overcome the odds in the third hilarious book about the Odd Gods from author David Slavin, filled with dozens of black-and-white illustrations by award-winning artist Adam Lane.

Just silly

This was a silly book that played wit the origins of the Olympics. In this version its the Greek gods vs the Roman gods, which were essentially the same lol
This lead to a lot of doppelganger shenanigans and competition. The kids though got tired of it pretty soon when the adult pressure got too much. And so it became a contest of kids vs adults and since the adults weren't playing fair the kids got creative with the games too.
Silly and fun. Kids would prob enjoy it 👍

The odd gods are back and this time readers get to meet their Roman counterparts. The reigning gods escalate a middle school game of tug of war until it's a full blown battle between the two pantheons for full reign of Mt. Olympus. Slavin uses humor and satire extremely well in this third volume. The odd gods understand teamwork and work together to win the olympics and make some changes for the adults in their lives.

This is the Third in the series and it keeps getting better! This time, the Greeks Vs. the Roman Gods! It's a funny way of showing the two sides of Mount Olympus and there are many current jokes used also. I hope that this isn't the last one in the series.

Greek vs. Roman gods and their Odd siblings are training for a sports competition. But the parents are just too involved in the outcome. A silly story of family, friendship, and teamwork.

Silly middle grade read. Humorous if you were pretty well versed in Greek/Roman myths.

So this was the first book from the series I could read in English! Generally I read these books in Dutch as that is the one you can find, but this time I found the English one!

In this book a TON of things happen! The kids find out that their Mount Olympus may not just be all for them. Oh no, on the other side of the mountain there are the Roman Gods. The mirror images of the Greek Gods (or the Greek Gods are mirror images of them, that is a discussion that comes up in this one).

I had a big laugh at how the kids reacted to the news of Roman Gods and the fact that for each of them there was a Roman God. Even the Odds meet their fellow Odds and that had me very happy as I was already wondering about that! Then there is the biggest thing in the whole book, the Olympics. Or the Godlympics as Zeus so proudly calls them. I loved reading about the Olympics, though I did feel sorry for the kids who got totally dragged into a war between Zeus and Jupiter who should just freaking grow up already. Thankfully, I am not alone in thinking this one. A lot of grown-ups are on my side. At first the Olympics seem to go to one direction, but I was happy, and also so proud, to see the kids stand up for themselves. And what happens next was just pure fun! Seeing the kids work together, Gods and Odds. See them try to show the grown-ups what they can do. Take control.

I laughed a ton in this story and I had so much fun reading. I definitely flew through the book!

My 5th grader absolutely loved it. I received a copy of this book from a Goodreads giveaway and will be buying the others in the series. It was a quick, single night read for her but now her younger siblings are enjoying it being read to them.

this was a good book to show middle schoolers that there are always two sides to every story. It also shows that the way things are always done may not always be the only way.

Dit derde deel past perfect in de serie. Zelf geen groot fan, maar leerlingen in mijn klas worden er blij van.
