An okay read, but I'm not really loving this run as much as the first book.

The big reveal in this issue seemed so simple but that's why it caught me by surprise. I was looking for a possibly deeper secret and got handed the old fashioned switcharoo. I am unsure how the rest of this series will unfold considering how many people died, and then to have just learned there will be a follow up to this as well. Either way I'm going to do my best to trust Sean Murphy since he hasn't let me down so far.

Sigh

I was very excited for this issue but now I'm left feeling sad and disappointed. This one issue was a mixed bag for me. There are some revelations I liked, other things that happened that I didn't like at all and some hints for the future I dislike enough that if that is indeed where the author goes I won't be reading any further comics in this elseworld. Makes me sad if what I think is going to happen does in fact come to pass. I'll finish the series, keep my fingers crossed that I'm wrong but if not, then yet another disappointment with a DC comic writer.

Look, the whole Joker using the Wayne secrets storyline is great, but they messed up with the Joker's character so much at this point
They're basically ruining more and more of what "White Knight" seemed to set up to
Like all the commentary on Gotham's psychological "care", the main focus on Batman and Joker's relationship and how they're the two sides of the same coin went literally YEET out the window
Unless all of this has a sudden plot-twist that makes things better, this will officially be my most-hated DC comic, I'm sorry
I had high hopes for this, I really did

“Batman: White Knight” was the most engaging Batman story of the past several years, both well written and superbly drawn. It contended with serious modern subjects, like race, gender and inequality. All the recent criticisms about the chauvinism and elitism of the caped crusader were brought to the frontline, although not taken to their ultimate consequences. It was Batman’s Watchmen moment. When I read about “Batman: The Curse of the White Batman”, I became both thrilled and worried. The risk of a slippery slope toward self-destruction was quite real. Since I could not wait for the graphic novel, I bought each issue separately. Sitting tight until the next one was particularly enervating. After several months, I finally got the full picture. The story is still well written and superbly drawn, but the slippery slope I was afraid of was taken with proud. In the end, there was not much left of the Nietszchean übermensch that Batman represented. His righteousness was replaced by self-doubt and lack of foresight. His causes proved to be misguided. Not even the name Wayne was spared. It was another Watchmen moment. However, this time I am not referring to the graphic novel, but instead to its HBO glum extension. As most stories, appreciating Batman required a high level of suspending disbelief. And enjoy the ride while it lasts! Sean Murphy said no to it all and, as consequence, it made me utterly sad.
