Cornish Witch #2

Killer at the Castle

Rate this book

Portmage castle holds many ghosts, but only one of them just died…

When Will Bailey returns to the village to collect his inheritance, less than a day passes before he’s murdered. But who’d want him dead?

Morgana Emrys had the misfortune to witness his fall from the ruins of the castle tower to the sea below, and she’s far from sure that he was alone up there. Her need to know the truth leads her into an investigation that she might only survive if she can grapple her returning powers into submission before they overwhelm her.

Finding a killer is her first priority, but the ghosts don’t want to rest in peace!

The castle, the manor and the cursed statute

A great read. A tight plot that has enough twists and turns for any cozy lover and the ending will surprise you. A family descended from Merlin, with three young witches to carry on his magic. Our heroine is a twin who has remained in the small town to run her own business. She has fought her magical heritage but is now trying to relearn how to use her gifts.
However she doesn't expect to see a body falling from the local castle. Was she imaging the second figure? Take a recent death, added in a murder, a manor house, a scheme to get money, a journalist after her twin sister and a statute she stole from him. Will her reusing her powers lead her to the truth about the dead man? Why did her sister steal the statute and what did it have to do with the death of his pregnant wife?
A well paced read and left you wanting to know more about the person behind the statute. Although I must admit that i really didn't like her twin very much or the fact that her mother forgave her for everything so readily.

Killer at the Castle (A Cornish Witch Mystery Book 2) by Stella Berry

Will Balley comes home to get his inheritance, and soon he falls from a window to his watery death. But was it an accident or was he pushed? Morgana (The Witch) saw this happen and she is determined to get to the turth. She has to use her powers carefully as she investigates further.

A fast paced orginal Story set around an Old Castle with Ghosts. Morgana is very likable, she is a good Witch. She also has a twin who is a bit on the evil side but I liked her as well. Overall I enjoyed Killer at the Castle and feel those who love a great who-done-it with a magical touch , will like it as well.

I adore this series so much. Morgana is one of my favourite fictional characters. She’s funny, feisty, a hopeless romantic but always seemingly unlucky in love.

I love the idyllic setting and Morgana’s shop & especially finding out that I can actually visit the real place that inspired Stella, that shops like Morgana’s are real, as is the castle. (Fictional names in the book, obviously lol)

The story is another brilliantly written murder mystery with adorable moments throughout. I didn’t guess the killer this time & didn’t see the twist either, but for lighthearted mystery books, it’s nice to stop thinking and truly enjoy the cute story at your fingers tips.

Highly recommend.

Being cut off by the tide, tales of wreckers on the Cornish coast, a cave passage winding up to a ruined castle – these are elements that remind me of adventure stories of my childhood and add a special richness to the did-he-fall-or-was-he pushed mystery. I enjoyed seeing Morgana putting her insight powers to use, braving the castle ghosts and joining forces with her witchy sisters.

Fun reading!

I love British based books. The sisters and mother are hilarious. The quaint village sounds like a fun place to visit, or live.
