Three women checked into the Hotel del Coronado—one never checked out.IT WAS SUPPOSED to be a typical assignment. But from the moment travel journalist Grace Hannan steps into the Hotel del Coronado, her task becomes much more challenging than a review of the historic hotel. For 125 years, three spirits have haunted the Del, waiting for the right person to help release them from their prison. Only Grace can finally solve the age-old question of the identity of the woman newspapers referred to as the “Beautiful Stranger.” Did she kill herself, as reported, or was there more to the story? As Grace journeys through the turbulent life of the beautiful and headstrong Lottie Barnard, she uncovers dangerous secrets, along with unexpected acts of self-preservation that ultimately define a woman fighting to survive in the male-dominated Victorian era. Book 2 in The Del series—a tale of steamy romance, elegant settings and rich historical detail.
I loved the first book in this series, and if possible, the second is even better. The only reason for four stars instead of five is that there are quite a few grammatical errors (mostly misplaced or missing quotes and punctuation), which was often distracting. The plot is arguably far-fetched as well, with a lot going on, but that’s honestly what I love about it! The creativity in this story is amazing, and the large cast of well-developed characters make you emotionally invested in what happens to them all. I’ll definitely be reading the third book as well.
