This was a great read but there were parts of the book I wanted to shout at the main characters there was way too much dancing around their issues when there really didn’t mean to be.

Shania is working as a top masseuse at a popular day spa when the man who has haunted her dreams for the past ten years appear to be lay face down on her table, she tries to be professional and ignore the man who took her innocence and never looked back but it soon becomes obvious that she has unresolved issues and gives herself away, things become even more complicated when their friends decide to have a double wedding and as them to be maid of honour and the best man. Shania is still attracted Sean and when they come to a mutual arrangement can she keep not only her past feeling but her present ones to herself or could she take a chance and tell him how she really feels or focus on her dream of having her own business.

Mad Ox is home after his last tour being a world famous DJ and ex band member of the Lover Boys he is ready for some rest and relaxation, so after a spa day is organised by his agent who is he to say no, but when he recognises the masseuse as a woman he spent an unforgettable night with ten years ago and the woman he has been avoiding when visiting his friends it seems that fate has other ideas and it is time for him to confront a mistake but what he want expecting was to feel at home with her or to feel that she is what is missing in his life but can he take a chance on them or will he do what he usually does and cut and run before things get to intense? Can Sean Maddox finally see what was in front of him all along?

This book I enjoyed and found it a really easy read but there were things that I think were glossed over a little too easily especially after making them major issues at points throughout the story. Still enjoyable and a great addition to the series. A 4* read for me

DNF it just doesn't seem to have anything going for plot. Girl wants to open her own spa but overdraws her checking account and worries about savings covering her coffee purchases. Then her weird boss holds his finding out about her plans and treats her badly. I don't see any chemistry between Sean and her, just awkward encounters. I quit half way.

I made it to 10% and gave up. Too many typos. This author isn't new to writing and should have better editing and proofing.

Shania's Stubborn Independence Nearly Cripples Her, But Sean's Patient Ways Allow Her The Breathing Room She Needs.

This is book three of the Lover Boys series. Lover Boys was an eighties-era throwback rock band that disbanded a decade ago. Noah, Will, Sean, and Theo chose to quit while on the top and still the best of friends. They have each reinvented themselves in a new career path. Dream Lover, book one, is Pepper and Noah's story. Book two, Unexpected Lover, is Will and Sam's story. In Surprise Best Man, Sean and Shania's story is told. It reads perfectly as a stand-alone.

Sean Maddox, a.k.a. DJ Mad-Ox, is a mellow, go-with-the-flow guy that is not easily frazzled. When faced with something daunting, he tends to procrastinate and get lost in his head. The former bassist for Lover Boys turned to DJ'ing after the band's breakup a decade ago. Arriving home in LA from a grueling three month international tour, he is ready to take it easy. The heavy partying is getting old.

In all his years of one nighters, there has only ever been one woman that stuck in Sean's memory. He has thought of her from time, wondered what she was doing. The shock of seeing her again recently hasn't changed that. She is even more beautiful than she had been in college. The upcoming wedding of his buddies means that he will continue to see her around. They hadn't really spoken yet. They had an unspoken agreement to avoid one another and he had no plans to break it.

Shania Simms, thirty-three, took a few years to figure out what she wanted to do after graduating pre-med from UCLA. Several years ago she became a massage therapist at Circus Maximus, a day spa catering to the rich and famous, and quickly knew she had found a career that made her happy. Her dream is to open her own day spa that caters to everyday women, making therapeutic services more accessible to a larger segment of the population. But with the cost of living outpacing her pay increases, Shania's nest egg is dwindling and her dream is drifting out of reach.

Watching her friends' happiness and success doesn't make her jealous - she is incredibly happy for them - but it does remind her that she has nothing to show for herself. If things keep up she might even need to consider roommates. What makes things even more confusing is the fact that the man who took her innocence in college and never spoke to her again happens to be in the same friend group that two of her best friends are marrying into. It will be impossible to avoid him altogether.

When Noah, Pepper, Will, and Sam decide to have a double wedding and ask for Sean and Shania to be the best man and maid of honor, they both know they have to get over the past and work together to make their friends' day perfect. The problem is that once they start talking, their insane chemistry returns in full force, and neither wants to risk any personal issues interfering with their friends' happy day.

Sean and Shania's touching story is a nice addition to the series. Sean's laid-back attitude is put to the test. He is forced to face his fears when he contronts his own feelings. Shania's reluctance to stand up for herself makes her vulnerable. Her stubborn independence nearly cripples her, but Sean's patient ways allow her the breathing room she needs to think things through. The couple earns a lovely HEA.

There are some issues that may bother some readers. First, even though the timeline is mostly vague, it still doesn't appear to quite add up. It is seemingly inconsistent with the last book in the series as well. *Spoilers* Additionally, it felt as if Sean did not fully appreciate his interference with Shania's job, even in spite of his excellent intentions.

This story is nicely-written; my review copy has only a occasional error - and the final copy will likely be cleaned up. The plot is fairly simple. The characters are well-developed. They feel like real people. The POV alternates between Sean and Shania. I rate this book four stars.

How to Plan a Wedding and While Falling in Love

Shania Simms and Sean Maddox had shared friend groups while at UCLA. And, they had shared one passionate night which apparently meant little to Sean—he never really had any interaction with Shania again, not even a conversation. But, that night impacted Shania with its secret and unacknowledged act of sex—Sean was her first, although he probably didn’t even notice. And while Shania went on with college life no longer a virgin, Sean and his crew went on to soon drop-out of college, launching the hit rock group of the 80’s, Lover Boys.

Now, 10 years later Sean and Shania are once more thrown together by chance. Sean, now performing under the persona of DJ Mad-Ox after the breakup of the Lover Boys, has just completed an exhausting tour of Asia. Sean’s manager arranges a “spa day” to welcome his client home at LA’s new hot spot to chill out, Circus Maximus, a Roman themed spa where the former pre-med UCLA graduate and one-night lover, Shania is now employed. Neither expected to ever see each other again, especially not as client and masseuse, and when the client’s unclothed very large parts are unwittingly and unexpectedly flashed in front of the girl from the past, both client and masseuse evacuate the massage room, fleeing from each other in shock and embarrassment, setting up trouble in Shania’s world with her demeaning and controlling boss.

What further stretches the realms of the surreal for these secret one-time lovers is the news that their four closest college friends—the friends who never knew that Shania and Sean had once hooked up—are planning a double wedding when the perfect and highly desired venue unexpectedly has a date come open. And, the nuptial couples want the secret one-time lovers to be the best man and bridesmaid for both couples.

Further complications arise when Shania’s world begins to fall apart—her sleazy boss, having discovered her plans to one day open a rival spa geared to the general population, not just the uber elite, and feeling threatened, fires Shania and blackballs her among the other area’s spas. Without a job and a dwindling savings, Shania’s dreams begin to spin out of reach with the only offer of funding to forward her dreams coming from a creeper of her UCLA past who offers the funds for the startup, but at a very personal and unacceptable price.

Wright sets up a variety of challenges for Shania and the reader. Can the weddings’ “bests,” the former one-time-lovers, work together to help their friends with the wedding details when they are befuddled and discombobulated by an attraction that has not gone dormant, but rather has only gotten stronger over the last 10 years? And, is it possible for Shania to overcome the threats of her boss and his career killing machinations as well as the darker threats from her past while helping her friends plan the perfect wedding?

Aubrey Wright has a knack for taking the unlikely and making it not only likely, but amusing, touching, threatening and romantic, always concluding in a HEA ending. Wright’s romances touch the heart and tickle the funny bone, leaving the reader with complete satisfaction.

The Halo Effect

#spoiler

Another GREAT story from Aubrey Wright. This is a slowish-burn second chance for two great characters.

Shania and Sean first met and got together in college. It was a one-night stand, or so they thought... Sean dropped out of college, pursuing his music career. Because they have mutual friends, they see each other occasionally, but try to avoid or ignore each other for the most part.

Sean is back in L.A., having just returned from a three-month world tour of DJ-ing and partying. His manager organises a trip to a day spa for him, as a reward for a job well done, and to just relax and unwind. And his masseuse just happens to be Shania! A slight wardrobe malfunction has her running out of the treatment room, and him running out of the day spa, headed back home.

As a high-profile (hopefully repeat) client, Shania's boss is not happy with the situation, and makes her apologise to him with a complimentary gift basket from the spa. This is where they reconnect (as friends/acquaintances - to start off with). None of their friends know of their 'first time' history, and are curious as to why they're spending time together.

A double wedding, and their obligatory bridal party duties, gives them more reasons to spend together. They make a deal and make the most of these opportunities, getting to know one another better, and support each other, as their feelings develop into more.

There's plenty of drama, people sticking their noses in when it's not wanted or needed, and lots of sweet moments, romance, sassiness and steam! The end also holds a couple of beautiful surprises. Definitely worth the read!

Can't wait to see what Aubrey has planned next!

Quick Review:
Cute story. Fun characters. Sexy scenes. Description doesn’t do the story justice. HEA with a completed storyline.

Full Review:
While I’m a huge fan of reading a series in order, you don’t need to read the other books in order to love this story! Surprise Best Man is easily my favorite of the Lover Boy series to date.

The story is told with alternating voices, a great balance between the two main characters. I quickly fell in love with Sean! He is a nice mix of manly and sensitive, totally swoon worthy. Like most romance novels, I rooted for our girl, Shania, from the start and wished for all of her dreams to come true.

I smiled, giggled, and worried along with the characters as this cute story progressed. A fun read for a relaxing afternoon!

Both the title and the description are not my first choice, but they get the job done. There is so much more to this book! I cannot comment more without spoiling the story! Just read it!

The only question I have is..... what will happen next in the Lover Boys series?

*I received an ARC from the author in exchange for my honest review. All words, descriptions, opinions, and suggestions are my own.

**It is hard to write a review without spoilers!

***This is my 12th book by the author. I’ve read over 200 romance novels in the past 235 days, this book was read in one day.

*Spoilers* I loved reading Shania and Sean's story. Shania is a message therapist at a high end spa in LA and Sean is a DJ. After several years of not seeing each other there paths cross again when Sean ends up on Shania's message table where she works and let's just say awkward moment for both of them because of there history. They hooked up one night in college and Sean just got up and left the following morning without a word. Shania to say the least wants to open her spa but her boss finds out about her plans when she accidentally leaves the folder in her locker at work. Shania and Sean are asked to be the best man and maid of honor when 4 of there friends decide to have a combined wedding. Sean wants to help Shania with her business plan but so does James. Shania quits her job and doesn't know what to and Sean is willing to help her. There relationship starts as friends with benefits but it ends up being so much more than that but a little misunderstanding threatens what they have. Sean and Shania eventually talk about what happened and they both admit that they love each other. Shania finds out she is pregnant and she doesn't know how Sean is going to react when he finds out. Sean is thrilled with the news and he proposes to her before the grand opening of her spa. I would give this book more than 5 stars because it's that good

A Second Chance, ROM/COM romance with a perfect STEAM chaser! Fantastic Read!!
SURPRISE BEST MAN is one of those romances that has the best elements of so many tropes within the romance genre, that a reader can’t help but just sit back and enjoy the entertainment. That is exactly what I did when I volunteered to read an early copy of Aubrey Wright’s SURPRISE BEST MAN. The characters of Sean and Shania grabbed my heart early on and had me rooting for their future together despite the walls of past trauma, speed bumps of deceit, and the paparazzi put between them. I laughed, teared up, and cheered multiple times throughout the reading, so all of the feels expected of a GREAT contemporary romance are included! Reading SURPRISE BEST MAN was an absolute delight to read and has easily earned a 5-STAR rating. Author Wright’s prose was eloquently descriptive, easy to read and provided the perfect pace for compellingly complex plot of SURPRISE BEST MAN. I volunteered to read a copy of SURPRISE BEST MAN and this is my VOLUNTARY and HONEST review. It’s my favorite book of 2020 so far; so, I feel compelled to sincerely and STRONGLY recommend it! SURPRISE BEST MAN should be your next romance purchase! Happy pages! 😉

I enjoy Aubrey Wright's books. The past few recent books I have read have had the main characters "attack" each other within the first couple of chapters. After that then the true story begins. I guess I like the build-up of sexual tension between my characters vs a quick rendezvous. The part of the book that I enjoyed was the second half. I loved seeing how supportive Sean was with Shania. He was there as a friend. She could depend, lean, and trust him. Bit by bit you could also feel the moments that Sean was hooked and falling. Shania is a straight forward girl. What you see is what you get with her personality. She will not drag you along or sugar coat her feelings. She's a breath of fresh air. She's a very strong, determined woman. Other than the story having a quick sexual explosion at the beginning vs an increase of sexual tension, I really enjoyed this story love story of two friends being there for their best friends. A fun, quick read to enjoy at any time.

Another great fun read by this very talented author her books always flow well are usually part of a series with common characters but each reads as a stand alone This is Sean and Shania's story

They had one night together when they where at UCLA it was Shania's first time even if Sean never realised but he didn't want anything serious so he went his merry way Things have been difficult between them ever since but luckily they don't see one another that often That all changes when two of there friends get married . Sean has just returned from an overseas assignment as a DJ something he took up after leaving his very popular band he can barely move his arms and shoulders so heads to a roman themed massage parlour to get the full works Only problem is that Shania is the masseuse sent to work on him and he flees causing problems with her boss. These two are going to have to survive the planning and execution of a wedding will they kill one another or will they realise the connection between them

Shania and Sean share the same group of friends. One night they had an amazing night together but Sean left without a word the next day to go on tour with his band. Shania worked hard to get where she is now but she never expected to see Sean again. However now years later he turns out to be a client on her massage table. She thought that she'd be able to avoid being around him but when their friends decide to get married it puts her back in Sean's path again. Things start going wrong at work and her boss fires her as well as blacklists her at any other spa. Shania doesn't know what her next move will be especially since her savings is slowly dropping. Is Sean going to prove to Shania that he is different than he used to be? Can they move on from the past?

This is a great story that will draw you in from the first chapter on. The chemistry between them is blazing hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

6 STAR RATING FROM ME!
Shania and Sean are past lovers, from college days. He was her “first”. She hated him for never speaking to her after that. When they do come face to face again, she is the one giving him a massage and he is the (naked) patron of the spa where she works.
From there the story only gets more interesting. The storyline is as solid as they come. The characters are delightful and well thought out.
The story has a few twists and turns that I didn’t expect. The book has tears, laughter, pain, a bit of heat, silliness, and best of all, love shining through. Although some of the love only the reader and supporting characters can see. Shania and Sean take their time figuring out the love part.
Once I started reading, I did not want to stop reading until the end of the book. Lost a little sleep. It was worth it. Truly this was a great read. I loved Aubrey Wright’s writing before I read this story, I love it even more now. 6 STAR RATING from me.

Sean & Shania are a blast from the past that she would rather forget! These two meet in college just before Sean dropped out to start touring with Lover Boys and he hurt Shania by doing that. When they reconnect because their friends fall in love they try the only thing they can think of, avoid talking to each other and about the past. Smart right....not! When they become best man & maid of honor for their friends weddings they figure they should start talking again we will just say the rest is history!

I really enjoyed this book & had an extremely hard time putting it down! It will hook you in right away and keep you turning those pages to find out more! I highly recommend you grab this read & the others in the series today!

Aubrey bring us her third book in the rock band Lover Boys series. This is Sean’s story; he is now a famous DJ who has just returned to LA. His manager has arranged for him to relax and unwind at one of the top spa’s, but he gets a huge surprise when his massage therapist is none other than the one-night stand from college he never quit forgot, Shania. Shania never forgot Sean either because he was her first, but when he left without another word spoken, she was hurt and bitter. Now, 10 years later they are both in shock by the way they meet again, and then they find themselves being the best man and maid of honor in their friends double wedding.
Aubrey does a great job with Sean and Shania’s story. The plot is interesting and held my attention. It had enough surprises to keep you wondering and it also had all the feels as well.

No fear I might give away the ending...

...Since I gave up on this drivel before it ended.
It was a terrible romance. Hurt feelings, suspicions, and distrust from years ago, took away all the potential fun of a new romance. Not good for die-hard ‘romance’ fans.
A not-even-quite-mediocre Scooby Doo Mystery was so pointless and stupid, it wouldn’t please a ‘thriller’ or ‘suspense’ fan.
The misuse of I/me in virtually every instance, was annoying to those of us who expect better from professional writers.
In spite of all these negatives, I still stuck with the thing till the 80%, when, once again, doubts, distrust, and secrets threatened to break our weak, cold, fairly lifeless H, and our doormat h apart.
I closed it out. I don’t know what audience this may be meant to entertain. But I am certain that I am not among them.

Sean was most certainly the best man for Shania. Met in college but it ended unhappily. It is now ten years later. When they saw each other again, old feelings came rushing to the forefront but they were afraid to give in to those feelings. More time and more incidents before their happy ever after was achieved. It was nice to see Samantha, Will, Noah, and Pepper and their weddings. ( They were from a previous book. ) I have not written a scorching review but it really is a wonderful romance and I hope you read Surprise Best Man by Aubrey Wright.

This story was great! It was fun, dramatic and full of memorable moments. After 10 years, Shania, a massage therapist meets up with Sean a Rockstar on her table. The mutual attraction is still there and through the story, it builds despite the obstacles they face.
Like all of Aubrey Wright's stories, this one is full of agnst and miscommunication. But Sean and Shania have something special. I found this full of feel-good moments and the development of the story plus the snappy dialogue will have me remembering this book for sometime. Amazing job Aubrey!
This was an ARC and its been my pleasure to read and review it.

As a fan of Aubrey Wright's books I was looking forward to reading Surprise Best Man since it was part of the Lover Boy series and I knew we'd also get the follow up stories to Noah and Pepper, and Will and Sam. The banter between them was fun and the anticipation of Sean and Shanie getting together again was worth the wait. Sean and Shania had a secret hook-up from college that no one in their group new about (a bit hard to believe), but that didn't stop the chemistry they had together and neither were shy about picking up where they left off. This is an easy and typical romance, but very enjoyable too.

This is a good, steamy, sexy, second chance story with likable characters. Sean is handsome, wealthy, former band member, current DJ and his former band members are his best friends. Shanie is feisty, independent, saving her money so she can open a spa business and is friends with a group of women who are dating Sean’s former band members. This is a great story about people changing and growing and loving each other along the way. The story really works. Super read and I recommend it. I can’t wait for the next one!

This is the story of Shania and Sean. They hooked up once when they were in college but then Sean blew her off. They reconnect 10 years later when their friends decide to get married. At first I was disappointed thinking this was going to be some boring bubblegum romance but then a guy from Shanias past who doesn't take no for an answer. While that did liven up the story it only marginally did so. There were a few opportunities to add some drama that would have enhanced the story. Could have been better. It pains me to leave this review because I realy enjoy her books.

Ten years later after that horrifying night of loosing her v-card Shania hasn't seen Sean till he's on her massage table and she blew that up, ran out of the private room and didn't go back. Then having her butt reamed from Mr Stump, then having to deliver a gift basket to Sean and get him to come back. Cause Mr Stump needs those VIPS to keep the business going. In this love story both are fighting for what their hearts desire and until the wedding nothing is solidified and then her dreams all start. Don't miss out on great book.

This book is one I happily read and am giving me honest opinion. Ms. Wright did it again with this light hearted, second chance love story, Surprise Best Man. At first, I felt it was a little too long getting the main characters in play and then I realized why. I loved Shania and Sean and wanted to get to the meat of the story! I was not disappointed. Between the little jokes, their friends' weddings coming up, the sexual tension, they made an amazing couple and there was no teasing...they both knew what they wanted and took it! I laughed, got tingley, got mad, then happy again! What a great read!

Shania has a good job as a massage therapists and she never thought that her day would start out with the one client on her table and one guy she never thought she would see again in he life Sean Maddox . Sean has just got back from a ruff gig ,and his manger has set up a day at the spa from him to relax ,and part of thAt was a massage ,but when finds out the massage women is none other than Shania things start to get interesting and when Sean towel has a clothing malfunction things just get better for them. Shania and Sean figure not else can make them be together ,but when they are put together as bridesmaids and best man things could and do get way more interesting for the pair .

I just adore the stories of the Lover Boys. Now that we have seen Noah and Will paired up with Pepper and Sam, it was time to see Shania and Sean paired up.

The slow awkward heat that built up between them was mesmerizing. The way they first dealt with it was comical and then combustible.

The way Sean pulls Shania out of her shell and encourages her to pursue her dreams is touching.

This is a must read in the series. Could not put it down!!!

Shania was in love with Sean but he left her after taking her virginity. Ten years later, they meet and have to spend two weeks together in order to plan a wedding where Shania is the maid of honor and Sean is the best man. They have to figure out how to get along and Shania tries to keep her heart from getting broken again. Ms. Wright has created a room/com where the characters are relatable. You also go through a variety of emotions while reading the book.

I received an arc for an honest review. Sean and Shania had a college romance but he broke her heart when he left with his band "Lover Boy." Years later, as their friends are getting married, they see each other again. Shania has not gotten over the pain of him leaving, but knows that they have to work together to make sure that their friends have a great marriage. They decide to talk about what happened in the past and try to resolve their problems. We also get visits from others in her past books. I enjoyed this book.

A good second-chance book about Sean and Shania. The two meet again after ten years removed from the one night they had shared together where neither one had really forgotten the other during that time apart. The chemistry still sparks white-hot between them but now they need to decide if that is all there is or could this be something that will last?
Well-written and keeps the reader interested throughout the book.

Second Chance romance, with some awkwardness. Shania and Sean have shared friends and are the best man and maid of honor. Sean left her after one night and now they have to be in the same wedding. What will they do? Can they put their feelings aside or will their feelings get in the way. Will Sean find out the truth before the weddings over and they go their separate ways? Will old feelings come to play? Can they handle two weeks together??

Awesome! Wonderful romance spanning over a decade. The blurb only gives a tiny bit of info regarding this book. These last several books continue on with the lives of a members of a band that even once they had their moment continued to stay friends. Turns out Shania is going to be the bridesmaid and Sean the best man. The two share a history but not does the present heat up. I love having the same group of friends coming together again in this story. I received a complementary copy of this book via Booksprout and chose to write a review. I look forward to reading future books by Ms. Wright.
