Nice addition to Rojo, Texas!
This is the start of a new series set within Rojo, Texas. It can be read as a STAND-ALONE story, but would be better to read it in the recommended order. This can be found on Cee Bowerman’s website (ceebowermanbooks.com). This is for maximum reader satisfaction and to prevent spoilers as there are multiple reoccurring characters, details that cannot be adequately recapped within the scope of another story that contributes to the story universe (world building), with past and concurrent timelines and overarching themes.
** There are some scenes that will be a trigger for sensitive readers. I have included examples below. Also, if you have not read the previous story in this series, the following may contain SPOILERS **
Another great story in Rojo, Texas! This story introduces the Connor family that has suffered an unbelievably heartbreaking tragedy, but a miracle as well. Multiple family members were killed in an auto accident, including their parents and two sisters, one of which was pregnant with twins. With the intervention of modern medicine, she has been able to gestate the twins so they are more likely to survive.
Lena, aka Milena, is having a day. She moved back to Rojo to take care of her dad when he was diagnosed with terminal cancer. He passed a few months ago and she has continued to try and deal with her stepmother from he11 because she is the only pseudo relative that Lena has left living. After working a double shift to cover for another waitress, being hit on by the creepy guy that is related to the owner, called / texted every so often about chores she hasn’t done yet by the stepmother, Lena comes home to find some of her clothes in trash bags and being told she has to get out.
During a phone call to get some help moving her items, Lena also finds an apartment. This was the wake up call she needed to get on with her life. Fast forward 2 months and she goes for a job interview at Connor Brothers Construction company. The door is unlocked, despite no one being there, and the phone keeps on ringing and ringing … one phone call after another. So Lena does what comes natural, she answers the phone and starts taking messages. Then she notices the desk is a mess, so she starts organizing the papers into different stacks. Multiple calls later and the phone rings again and there is an angry man on the phone wanting to know WHO exactly is answering his office phone …

There were only a couple of grammatical issues in the story and a couple of things I noticed that just didn’t fit. A couple of things I found included an incorrect word choice and missed color. All in all, a very well-written story. I highlighted a couple of the issues I found in this story specifically and uploaded it to Goodreads.com for anyone interested.
The other thing that wasn’t addressed was the lottery ticket Lena is given in the very beginning. Not sure why it was listed in the story if it isn’t going to do anything.
I am mentioning these issues for readers such as myself that visualize the story as it is read, because errors interrupt the flow.
