Tina bly op die Coetzees se skaapplaas in die Karoo. Haar grootmaakpa pas skaap op, maar sy vermoed haar biologiese pa boer Engelsplaas – die plaas langsaan. Engelsplaas word so genoem omdat die plaaseienaars nou al vir geslagte lank ’n engel het. Tina wil graag na die dorpskool gaan, maar dit is te duur. Toe sy wil wegloop, sê Jakob, ’n kruppel padloper, haar aan om haar regte pa te gaan vra vir geld.

Jirre fok, this was a nightmare to go through in Afrikaans class. Still somehow better than most books... Trane het geval joh. Not because it was a beautiful book, but because it was a nightmare for Afrikaans literature. This may well be a good book or whatever, but I'm traumatised from having to read it. Unfortunately I can't read it again from how soaked it is from my tears :')

This book is extremely complicated and very beautiful. A story of a young girl learning to accept her family and herself. I really appreciate the show of culture and race in this book. Much more interesting that I thought it would be.
