Rate this book
Three murders… Two sexy Special Agents… One small house… Nick, alpha-male private-investigator, is assembling a team to go undercover at a Florida high-school where teenagers are being murdered and left exposed on the school’s fifty-yard line. He needs a team that can help him infiltrate the school and catch this killer. Nick doesn’t expect to see the spark in the eyes of the sexy analyst assigned to his team, but it makes him want to push her more than anyone else on the squad. MaKenzie, reclusive bookworm, is comfortable with her desk job in intelligence gathering. Though she has been training to be in the field the last several months with her brother, she isn’t looking forward to coming face-to-face with a real life bad guy. Newly divorced, she’s looking for a change of pace, not another man to run her life, but can’t help her budding feelings for her hotter-than-sin team leader.  Together, MaKenzie and Nick will go undercover to track down the murderer. In unfamiliar territory amongst the Florida swamps, tensions rise, and the case becomes more and more personal for MaKenzie as she develops new, unexpected friendships. Will the duo uncover the killer before another death occurs? Or will the heat between Nick and MaKenzie burn everyone under the Floridian sun?

MaKenzie may be a little thing, but she packs a punch. There are teenagers being killed in a Florida school and Agent Nick Carson needs her help. She looks like she could be in high school and they need someone on the inside. Their team keeps looking for clues but there just aren't any. MaKenzie is attacked, so they know they are on the right track. Where is that one clue that will find him? As MaKenzie's life is in danger again, Nick doesn't want to risk anything more happening to her. Their feelings have grown, but they have to leave feelings out of it and do the job. Will they find him before he kills another teen?

Three connected murder cases in a local high school get to connect a rookie (MaKenzie) and a pro (Nick) to solve the mystery as soon as possible before the murderer strikes back again.

Nick is a private investigator who wants to assemble the best team to send them undercover in the high school where these murders happened, and this is the part where we get to know MaKenzie.
She's a petite twenty-something woman that recently had gotten out from a toxic marriage and here she is - in a desperate need of a change in her life. Instead of being a cliche heroine and change her hairstyle or hair color, MaKenzie chooses to get out of the box, leave her desk job position and face the fields to catch the bad guys.
She's the agent that will be sent undercover to the high school as a student, and the rest is history.

The sparks between Nick and MaKenzie were obvious from the beginning, but I liked that the instant-love phenomenon wasn't included in their story. It was a slow-burner, they needed some time to face the facts and to solve their problems with ghosts from the past.
However, something was missing and I can't figure out what. Some of their dialogues were a little insecure, plain, immature, and the story was too narrative for my taste.

It was a fun read, I liked the author's writing and the final plot twist was a real blast!
