The renowned Scottish ornithologist, William MacGillivray, walked from Aberdeen to London to visit the British Museum in 1819. His diary, kept during that walk, is of interest to all nature lovers and social historians.
Anyone interested in natural history will enjoy reading this book. I enjoyed reading through MacGillivray's journey, as he afforded us a glimpse into the landscape of Scotland and England in the early 1800s. His descriptions of the places he passed through, the people he met, and the fauna and flora he saw along the way were amusing and fascinating to read about. I keep marveling at the fact that he undertook this incredible journey on foot with only £10 in his pocket.
