This housewife has almost a decade under her belt of creating a life that is cozy and satisfying on a limited income. There are stories, advice, and experiences of how to manage a small budget, a small home, and a small family to the fullest. There are stories of building careers out of hobbies with no money to spare. Stories of other homemakers working with so little you wouldn't think they could survive. In the end, you will learn that a delicious life is created with wisdom and love. You may even learn how to live richly on very little in the way of finances. On one paycheck, this family purchased their first home, provide a beautiful education for their children, eat well, live abundantly, built large savings, and practice generosity. These are memories of life in the home, marriage, motherhood and adjusting the lifestyle to accommodate a sometimes shrinking paycheck. It is also about creating hobbies and skills at home and how sometimes they can become, not only satisfying but lucrative. Brew up a pot of coffee or tea, sit with me and enjoy the stories!
This was a really fun and cozy read on the topic of homemaking! It felt like reading one wife and mom’s memoir about her own homemaking experience - with helpful tips and suggestions sprinkled throughout.
A couple things to note: this is a secular book so the author is not writing from a Christian perspective. There were some weird new age beliefs in here as well as a few slang words and a whole lot of vegan/vegetarian stuff (which is fine, just not me).
I thought about only give this book 3 stars, but I actually really enjoyed it which is why I’m giving it 4. I love being a wife, mom, and homemaker and this book helped me remember why I love it so much… while also giving me some fresh ideas and inspiration.
The writing won’t win any awards but it was fun; she has lots of attitude and style! Wish I could take her out for a gourmet coffee or better yet enjoy one of hers.
I felt a camaraderie with the author in the frugal living and gardening/homesteading. Easy, casual reading. The author makes you feel like it’s just a convo with a friend over the little sweet details in a homebody life well-lived.
This was a sweet and casual read to enjoy while I wind down in the evening. This is the first book about homemaking that I read from a "secular" author, and I was pleasantly surprised. Kate is spunky, relatable, and fun. I enjoyed reading about her life and her perspective. She has some good tips about making due with little resources. The greatest thing I took from this read was all of the book recommendations she gives!
I was looking for some home making ideal .Good thought provoking ideals.I enjoyed reading this book.if you're looking for something on homemaking this is a good read.
