Social media platforms like Twitter and Instagram haven't been around for long, but are already having far-reaching impacts on our health and wellbeing. We are only just starting to appreciate the influence these platforms have over our decisions around food and health, with many of these processes are happening without us even being fully aware of them.
Well, maybe we should be aware. This book will guide you through the various ways social media has affected our food choices, our restaurants, and our food policy. By the end, you'll be armed with the knowledge and tactics to take back control and make social media work in a healthier way for you.
ever wonder how social media impacts on how we eat? 🍽💭 yes, this book tells everything.
but its not only that - it is also changing what we choose to eat and why we choose the food - we dive in through further into these questions to be aware & gain better understanding of the topic. ✅
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5. i enjoyed reading this!! i have never thought i would actually be interested in picking this up to read omg but its so easy to follow through and it is so relatable looking at the fact that i have been following some "keeping healthy" accounts and felt the same way in how social media has impacted me to take care of myself & be healthier. ✨((thank goodness in a more positive way, phew!!))
i believe that as much as social media provides an easy platform to share misinformation and for people to judge & shame one another, it also provides a great platform for food/health inspo & motivation. sometimes it could leads us with extra pressure to be perfect but its important to remind ourselves that by the end or the day, its okay to not be perfect & your imperfections are what make you, YOU. 🌟
would recommend this to anyone who is interested in the topic or just everyone who is basically on social media!! an insightful read indeed & really helps to be more aware of how social media connects with the food industry and generally whats happening in our food community. 🍔🌭🌮🥙🥗
Pixie Turner is a (qualified) nutrition influencer who delves into the scary world of Instagram nutrition. Despite what many influencers portray, this book is an important reminder that nutrition and exercise regimes are not one-size-fits-all. However, this book is not all doom-and-gloom! Pixie Turner highlights how social media can be a positive force in fighting misinformation and connecting individuals around the world. Definitely a read I would recommend to anyone who uses social media.
i really enjoyed how digestible this book was, it is an easy non fiction read. The author was able to write about different aspects of social media and diet whilst bringing in her own personal flair. the subject matter was interesting and gave me a fresh perspective on food and Instagram culture spanning from about 2012 to present day. this book also felt personal to the author which was nice to see, as often authors of non fiction tend to just state the facts / information, but Pixie turner's experience on instagram as a food influencer means the reader can truly engage with her and the subject matter
I enjoyed reading it - the writing style and information was presented very clearly. There were some interesting points, but I felt like she only covered the surface. She could have gone into much more detail , and also could have run the chapters together more coherently. It was a good book if you just wanted an introduction to the topic or you were just looking for something quick and easy to read on the subject.
Unfortunately quite poorly written and a lot of points repeated. She talks about ‘influencers’ and people in the wellness industry (and ‘quacks’) quite negatively, but isn’t this how she found her fame?
3.5 stars I really enjoyed the first half, I tabbed so many pages! The second half of the book lost my interest a wee bit but I did get a lot of good things out of this book
As usual, Pixie does an amazing job of untangling what can be a messy world of misinformation around food and nutrition. Her analysis of social media and how it’s shaped our eating habits and ideologies is balanced, fair and thought provoking. It provides practical tools to navigate the complicated world of consuming food images online and an interesting critique on how it’s affected different generations. An engaging read and would highly recommend it to anyone with an interest in the topic!
