If only there were more than 5 stars. I won't sugarcoat it. This book is dark, horrifying in parts, tear-jerking in others, and scarily realistic from start to finish. I really wanted to throw my arms around Puck, shake Graysons hand and tell him that what he did was heroic and kind and loving and that he is a truly wonderful person. I wanted to climb into the book and tell them what was coming. I wanted to climb in and slap a couple of the characters in the face, with a chair! I can't believe it's finished. I've learnt to love many of the characters in this series and I need to know if they're okay after the ending.
Seriously, I can't say enough about how much these books held my heart and mind as I listened and desperately hoped that (I'm going to be generalising to avoid spoilers) They would get there in time They would survive the gang They would find a way to escape They would not be drowned He would save the day, again I would find another box of tissues before I started listening again
The scene setting, character development, story arcs, and narration, were outstanding. I consider myself fortunate to have found this series and this author. I know that all day today, and pray tomorrow to, at the very least, I'm going to be worrying about the characters and how they are getting on.
Great but terrifying series because it could happen especially in today's world.
L.L.Akers I is one of extraordinary writers out there. I admit that I had to take a little break between each book for my own sanity. What is so frightening (and panic inducing to me is the situation in the world as it is could happen. These books will haunt you after reading them. Side note : all the writers of these books are superb. I wish I lived near them. Kudos to you L.L.Akers for this great series. The characters seem so real that I cried and laughed at the things that happened to them. I hope you continue to write their story & hopefully a happy ending will come. I don't know if I can I can lose another person. I personally don't like reviews that tell you the whole story. I would rather read the book and find out what happens. I know some people don't mind it ( maybe I'm weird) but what I will say is read these books. I'm now going to start on the series of how the main characters met. Thanks again L.L.Akers for this series even though it caused me a sleepless night or two😀 A great writer can do that. Please continue the series
There’s 5 stars here... a bit as an attabo... err girl and a bit as applause for not dragging me through a recount of what happened prior. I really hate when authors spend so dang much time retelling history for those shmucks that haven’t read the previous books. That being said you DID take a gawdawful amount of time getting this last one out so I spent an inordinate amount of time trying to remember the history... I reckon it all fell into place about an hour before I finished.
I was dreading at one point (back towards the end) that I wasn’t going to be able to 5 star you. The climax at the farm seemed a bit jumbled and didn’t quite fit together well. There were a couple of wtf’s during that sequence.
but in the end when it all wrapped up I assessed my feelings and reckoned with the added “bits” you deserved the full monte.
I chose 5 stars because Lisa always captures the mind and you literally become immersed, like you're watching it unfold. The building of the characters and story line is second to none. I love the cliffhanger and I can't wait to see the continuation of the ones on the bus. Lisa always delivers a great story. I also learn so much by reading her books, she always leaves nuggets of information in a great story line. The twists and turns of a family who have been through the wringer, still standing to fight another day.
This fourth book in the SHTF series was a bit shorter than the previous ones, for very good reasons (she mentions in the afterword). The story picks up.just after the end of book three, hits the frog d running full speed and keeps you hovering over your chair in breathless expectation of what might happen next. You'll become even more invested in Grayson and the family and bemoan their travails. The book was over too quickly, and I hope we'll see more of the gang going forward.
A great ending to a series I have enjoyed. Yes, this book was darker than the other three but we have to remember, post apocalyptic books are not romance where there is a happily ever after. Not all books have the endings you were expecting. War, survival, starvation needs to be dealt with as something that will not and can not change because you are a super prepper. S**t happens.
It took a while, but Akers keeps you on the edge of your seat in this action packed, intense book. Once I started reading it I couldn’t put it down until I finished the book. Heart wrenching ending that I would never have expected. I can’t wait to follow the group on their new journey and hope that she decides to continue the series. I will be waiting patiently to see what’s next for all of them.
Wow, how certain characters have evolved! It’s like certain ones have grown up and others have taken on a whole new persona. Makes for quite a interesting read instead of knowing which way the story is going to go before you finish reading it. This author definitely always pours a bit of her heart, blood sweat and tears into her work and it shows. My favorite author ever! A must read series.
I've been following LL Akers works for several years and I'm never disappointed by their content. Wait Like A Stone continues the survival saga I've been following. This series is at a crossroads for continuation or termination, and for myself, I vote to continue the story, and I hope to see more with these characters. Thanks LL Akers for more great reading.
I read a lot of apocalyptic type fiction and I read a lot of other fiction as well. This series is one of the best apocalypse series out there. It is also one of best books of any genre. It has characters you love, ones that you hate and some you love to hate. It has a great story arc. I look forward to the next installment and happy the author is planning new books.
Book four in this series, but hopefully not the last!!! A nuclear bomb has detonated. Bodies are charred beyond recognition or a mound of ash.The primary characters in this series are struggling to survive. Most of them will, but a few cherished members will not. There home has burned to the ground. They have very little left to survive with, but they are determined to make it Hopefully they will!!! Another excellent read in this series!!
I read all 4 books in 3 days. Slept very little because they were so hard to put down! A powerful and frightening story. As I stated in a previous review, I've been reading PA books since the 80's and this is the very best series I've ever read! I'm late discovering this author, but will catch up because I am now an avid fan. I hope there is a book 5, there was no cliffhanger, so I'm good. But the story could continue.
I sure hope this isn't truly the end. I read the entire series in a few days while on a really long road trip. Started making notes, drawing out my garden etc. Since my husband is a combat veteran we're loaded for bear but we aren't preppers. I think he'd be thrilled if I gave him that nod. Now all we need is property. Please keep the story going. Even offshoots are fine. Its was lots of fun...even when sad.
This book introduced new characters and issues, it was a nice change of pace. I don't know if this series written for the YA genre, but it sure feels like it is. While there are some pretty uncomfortable scenes (especially in the first book, Fight Like a Man) there's nothing outragous, it feels very safe. The series sort of wraps up nicely, but it doesn't fully explain everything. Almost like the author left the possibility of another book in the series. Over all I enjoy reading this series.
This book needs to continue on! The characters and readers demand it. Grayson and Puck have a way of making you look at life without blinders, Grayson by his actions, Puck, well just by being Puck. I didn't even hate on Olivia this time, she seems to be growing too, another reason to continue the series.
Lisa may have taken awhile to get this out ( understandably) but it was so worth waiting for! Yes, it was a little darker than previous books in this series, how ever, that world was darker so anything else would’ve been inappropriate. Would love to see another SHTF in this series. L.L. Akers you did GOOD!
Well I waited like a stone and holy hell did she deliver! Things take a dark turn in this installment of the series (reader beware) but drive the story forward. Now I can't wait to read what becomes of our survivors as they set out into the ruined world that awaits them!
L. L. Akers never disappoints. This book did have several sad moments as we have all had during our real pandemic this year. I don’t think this book should be the end of the series because we do need faith and hope that God will see us through to happier times.
This is a really good series. I like that it doesn't pull any punches . The highs and the lows all laid out ,the characters are likeable and the story intense . I couldn't put the books down and read them in a week wondering why I haven't read them before now. Really looking forward to the next one
As much as I enjoyed the first books in this series I did not enjoy this one. Too dark. And the author says the next book will be even darker, mostly due to some dark times in his life, so I am not looking forward to it. I am sorry for the authors hard times but I do not want to live them through his books. I wish him well in the future.
I was disturbed and entertained. The four book series was read in order with few breaks. The apocalypse is power grid computer hacking. The characters and their actions were believable. The last book’s nuclear bombing was somewhat out of place but did allow zombies to be worked into the storyline. The “ending” is set up so the series can continue.
Wow!!! I have read a lot of books of different scenarios of what would happen if the shtf. This book is so realistic it had me telling my husband we need to do more. Gives you so many ways people coped or didn't cope. While I would like to believe people will not go crazy within 2 days, you never know. Look forward to more books if you chose to write.
Overall, I enjoyed the series. However, while the ending was highly engaging and wild, it felt unresolved and inconclusive to me. There's certainly potential for this to evolve into a new series or for there to be additional books.
Worth noting: the series contains triggers such as substance abuse, violence against women, and dogs.
Could use another book or three to let us know how the people in the bus made out. The epilogue was very good revealing the character Grayson. I'm glad Olivia finally stepped up. Well done.
This book seemed like a tease but opens the road ahead for more story. I got mad, had a few chuckles and shed some tears. That makes me like it more than I want to.
Amazing like ALWAYS!! Yes, it is short, but it's still a fantastic read. I went through the whole heart pounding book in one sitting. I don't think I took a breath through some of the pages. Definitely can't wait for book 5, we still have to find out what happens with Emma!
I don’t know what to say other than OMG my mind is blown right now, this was so good what a page turner I can’t wait for the next one so I really hope it is a next one , those characters are not done living. Not with their spirit. 👏👏👏👏
Wow just wow! A very good series! I just love these characters. This book made me cry and cheer. I can’t wait to see what they get into next. Where will the bus end up?
Please don't let this be the end. Akers is a gifted writer who brings her dynamic characters to life. Tears were flowing as I read the last words. All I can think is please do t let this be the end for Grayson and his group.
A great series full of action, drama, life lessons. I would love to get a follow-up story on the main characters, where they go, find a new place to settle, hopefully they find a garden of Eden.
