He only meant to rescue her…instead, she saved him from himself.

He has no heart…
Since the tragic deaths of his wife and children, Liam MacKay, Baron Penderhaven, has fortified himself behind a carefully erected wall of indifference and aloofness. There, he doesn’t have to feel anything. He’s as dedicated to the prosperity and success of his feudal barony as he is to avoiding social gatherings and marriage-minded women. That is, until he unhesitatingly risks his life to save the alluring Emeline LeClaire, and the temptress utterly thwarts his well laid plans.

She has no hope…
Illegitimate and orphaned, Emeline LeClaire has lived in servitude to her strict spinster aunt her entire life. With no prospects, Emeline expects she’ll follow in her aunt’s footsteps and reluctantly settle into a lifetime of drudgery as a seamstress. Only, when she becomes the target of hired assassins and the riveting, oh so tantalizing Highlander Liam MacKay charges to her aid, she realizes she cannot settle for mediocre. She wants him, and sets out to heal his wounded soul and claim his broken heart.

After a flash flood strands them in a hunting lodge for several days, Liam and Emeline can no longer deny their mutual attraction. Even though he vows to find the man who wants her dead, he cannot relinquish his heart to her. The organ shattered years ago, leaving him an empty shell, incapable of feeling. Can Emeline tear down the barriers he’s erected and convince him to accept her love, or will the past that haunts him separate them forever?

Very sweet story about a bitter Highlander and a woman he rescues. He was honestly a great guy. His first wife was pure evil and her recklessness caused herself and their children to die. He had every right to be angry but I do love the interactions between these too. There are no sex scenes but I still really enjoyed the story. Someone was trying to kill her and I just love when a man protects his woman. It was pretty fast reading and I wanted it to be longer. I read these out of order so now I have to go back and read the other stories.

💋💋

He promised himself he was done with women , apart from the odd widow, but when he happens upon two women about to be murdered , he just can’t help but run into the fray.

She doesn’t know who want her dead, what she does know is she’s now on her own.
She scared, but the Highlander who saved her is becoming someone she wants to rely on.

A great story that leaves you satisfied, the characters are brilliant , I love the Moody Baron, Watching him finally fall in love was beautiful.

I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review

Scottish Highlands 1720
He heard the terrified scream echoing through the Scot's pine forest, curdling his blood and raising his nape hair. Then he heard a woman speaking in French. "What in Odin's toes was a French woman doing in this isolated stretch of the Highlands, in this godawful weather, and screaming for help?" What he found was two blackguard's, one aiming at the two ladies huddled together, as he took a shot and hit the smaller one. What shocked Liam the most was he recognized the other young woman, Miss Emeline LeClare, who he has just seen at a masked ball. He made short work of the blackguards and them took her to a hunter's cottage nearby. With the storm surging there was not much choice.
Odin's teeth indeed!
Liam was set against having anything to do with a female, at least when it led to marriage. He had already endured so much and really had a wounded heart (yes, yes, I loved him!). Emeline had a gentle heart but she was strong in other ways and these two needed each other so much.
But someone was trying to kill Emeline and kept this journey exciting and sigh worthy.
How do you Woo a Highland Warrior? Have Collette Cameron and her limitless imagination weave a story that will wrap you up and leave you with a heavy sigh. Yes, I loved it!

To Woo A Highland Warrior is book four in the Heart of a Scot Series by Collette Cameron. I adored this book! I think I fell in love with the braw Scottish hero Liam MacKay. Liam appears in the previous books in this series, so I was thrilled to finally get to read his story. It absolutely sizzles! The heroine is Emeline LeClaire. She is also a secondary character in a previous book. I really liked Emeline’s gentle personality. The sexual tension between Liam and Emeline is so thick that I found I couldn’t put the book down. I read it in one afternoon. “When he smiled...Lord help her. It was as if the sun dropped from the heavens and lit the room. He transformed from wildly rugged to downright beautiful. It was all she could do not to gawk like a green schoolgirl.” I can’t wait for more. I was given a copy of this book.

To Woo a Highland Warrior is the fourth book in the Heart of a Scot series by Collette Cameron. It can easily be read as a standalone book, but if you haven't read the other books, you should because they are all wonderful stories.

From the very first scenes in this book where there is a wild thunderstorm occurring and caught in it is a gorgeous highlander, I was captivated. From there it only got better. Liam MacKay, Baron Penderhaven is that highlander and during that storm, he comes to the rescue of Emeline LeClaire. She and her aunt have had their travelling coach stopped and men are attempting to kill both women. Somebody has paid them, somebody wants them dead.

Of course, Liam rescues Emeline otherwise the story would just end, so there's no spoiler really there. What follows is the two of them getting to know each other better when they are trapped in a small hunting lodge waiting for the weather to clear and the roads to be useable. The attraction between them is immense but both have reasons to try to keep their feelings hidden. By the time they are able to travel to Liam's keep their lust for each other is palpable, but it all has to be kept aside because the most important thing now is to find out who is trying to have Emeline killed and why. Keeping her safe is a must for Liam especially as he is falling for her even though he is in denial of the fact.

This was such a wonderful story. I couldn't put it down until I read it all. Thank goodness it wasn't a saga length book!! I loved Liam, he is such a proud caring man. He is hurting and needs Emeline's TLC to help his heart to heal. Emeline is a gentle woman but fierce when it comes to looking after those that she cares about and those that care about her. She really is the perfect partner for Liam and I loved watching their feelings for each other develop. I loved the excitement of the attempted murders, and of Liam and his friends doing what they could to keep Emeline safe and to bring down the person/s behind the attempts. There really was never a dull moment and I am very happy to recommend that you read this.

This is the fourth book in the series & whilst it could easily be read on its own the characters from earlier books do make appearances. I was drawn in from the beginning with the attempted assassination until the lovely epilogue. I loved both Liam & Emeline. He’s suffered tragedy & has sworn never to marry again, she’s a strong, brave woman who copes well with everything thrown at her. I loved how they fell in love. A well written engrossing read that had the mystery as to who was targeting Emeline & why & of course a lovely romance

What a great book this was. I was taken in from the beginning and was hooked until the last page.

Liam MacKay and Emeline were at the same house party, but didn’t have any type of association until on his way home, he happed upon her and her Aunt Jeneva being held at gunpoint by what he thought were highwaymen. But it was far more sinister than that, which added a good mystery to the story.

There was a destructive thunderstorm going on at the same time that produced a flash flood that the two of them barely escaped. They ended up in a hunting cabin for a few days where they really got to know each other and we readers got to know them.

Liam is broken in some ways. He’s sworn off women forever, but still treats Emeline with respect and reverence despite the fact that he is attracted to her. He’s got his own story to tell.

Emeline is completely innocent, sometimes asks questions that she shouldn’t, is kind and thoughtful, and understands that Liam is off limits no matter what her heart says.

He’s a baron. She’s a bastard daughter of some French nobleman and was raised by her aunt after her mother died. They were so very different, but never have two people needed to be together more than they did.

This was a crazy good book with fantastic characters, an intriguing plot, and an ending that would make the most negative person smile.

Easy five stars

*Although this is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone novel

Liam Mackay is on his way home in a very nasty thunderstorm when he hears the sounds of distress.  Things are about to go from bad to much worse.

Emeline LeClaire  has no idea why her aunt and her have been targeted by these villains.  It must be mistaken identity.

Our hero is a typical Highlander, and cannot see any injustice without trying to put it right.  His own tormented past colours a lot of his actions.

Our heroine is just an ordinary young woman who lives with her spinster aunt who provided for them both through her work.

Who could possibly be behind such an attack????

A lovely and exciting romance with fabulous characters.  This author certainly knows how to keep our attention.

I loved every page.

1.5 stars.

Not great character development with a lot of physical attraction and hormonal inner dialogue. I did appreciate that there was no OP drama and that the mystery is quickly solved. It also made me happy that the MCs were on equal footing by the end of the story. However, I would’ve really liked to see the h explore her inheritance before she married the H.

To Woo a Highland Warrior by Collette Cameron is Heart of a Scot, Book 4. Liam McKay, Earl of Penderhaven has come upon to soaking wet women out in the middle of nowhere. They are near a coach angled across the road with two threatening men glaring down on it. As he got there he heard them threaten to ravish the younger occupant before they killed her. He exploded. Soon both men were dead, but sadly so was the older woman. He couldn't take them all so he moved the woman's body into the coach and pilled the carcasses of the criminals under it. All of a sudden, he heard it: a flash flood. He hurried to the lady, Emeline, and his horse, got her loaded, himself loaded, and took off in a rush, barely being missed by the rushing water. It was a long way home and the weather was terrible. Then he remembered the hunting cabin he and his friends had built years before. At least it was shelter.

So many problems: he swore never to get involved with a woman again, but sweet Emeline was a temptation for the 4/5 days they spent at the cabin, before it was safe to travel. Liam was a bruised and broken man, destroyed by a woman who had never loved him. He had lost her and their two children in a carriage accident when she was trying to leave him. Never would he love again. Emeline was past marrying age and had lived with her aunt her entire life. What would she do without her? The more they knew one another, the more their love grew. Could they figure out who wanted her dead? Could they come to terms with each other? This was a terrific story with a relatively simple plot, but well done with enough twists and turns to keep it interesting. Lovable characters. Ones to be rooted for. It was a good book. I recommend it.

Both Emeline LeClaire and Liam MacKay are having a dangerous and busy day. As Liam MacKay makes his way home, he finds Emeline and her aunt being attacked. He is able to stave off (kill) the attackers and rescue Emeline, but is too late to save her aunt. The excitement is not over. Before he can determine what happened and get the mess cleaned up, a flash flood forces them to run for safety. They are stranded in a lodge until the roads are safe to travel. They are attracted to each other. Liam’s tragic past and their current troubles might make romance impossible.

When they finally arrive at Liam’s home, attention is turned to the attack on Emeline and her aunt. Graeme Kennedy brings information that takes them to Edinburgh to seek answers. They are joined by family and a group of friends, all the big hunky heroes from the previous stories in the series. Who wants Emeline dead, and why? This band of determined protective Highlanders are sure to unravel the mystery.

This is an exciting story. Danger, drama, mystery, murder, surprises and revelations. Liam and Emeline make a great couple. They don’t realize it at first, but they need each other. Their adventure in Edinburgh is a breath-holder. Their romance is an adventure in itself.
An intense and captivating story with fantastic characters and a beautiful epilogue to wrap it all up makes this one not to miss.

Adventure cloaked in danger, rich in detail and highly charged with warring emotion and seductive allure!

This one gripped me in it's vivid detail and zapped me straight into the drama of a heart-pounding tragic opening and kept me riveted with suspense, intimate and raw emotion and touching revelations. Cameron has cleverly crafted a fun, conspiracy lead plot that flows smoothly and stays with you a long time after the last word, which I must say, despite loving and being invested to the point of addiction with so many other books, I often find I can't remember much of the tale days after but that is satisfyingly not the case in To Woo a Highland Warrior. Cameron's vibrant depictions keep pleasurably running through my thoughts as if mini movies - the delectable intimacy and heart-wrenchingly touching moments shared by Liam and Emeline in the hunting cabin and the pair's heart stopping first encounter to name but two.
A well thoughtout plot, embellished with dazzling characters that seduce with their kindness, stomach zinging chemistry, wit resourcefulness, and all-consuming enticement to protect. With the adding excitement of danger lurking in the shadows to keep you strumming with delicious tension, this touching story marks a definite favourite for me in this highly enjoyable and much recommended series so far; loved every second of it!!!

Liam MacKay has sworn never to marry again after his disastrous first marriage. When he comes upon what looks to be a robbery. Liam charges in like the Warrior he is and rescues Emeline LeClaire from certain death. Throw together in a cabin for days is a strain for Liam who has no trust of women and is very attracted to the one thing he has sworn off, single women. Emeline can’t believe how her life has been turned upside down with no family left and the possibility that someone is trying to kill her, in comes Liam MacKay and swears he will protect her. Not knowing what to do Emeline agrees to let the handsome knight help her. Liam has no desire to marry and Emeline doesn’t feel good enough for a man like Liam. Both can’t help but desire the other but need to overcome their past to be together. I could not put this one down. Such a wonderful story. I was rooting for them from the beginning! You just know if Emeline can just break the ice that Liam has placed around his heart and if Liam can show Emeline her worth they can have a beau life together. Definitely recommend reading this one.

Widowed Liam MacKay, Baron Penderhaven has been avoiding the marriage mart, his wife and children have died and he has no desire to married again, that is until Emeline LeClaire, and the temptress utterly thwarts his well laid plans. Liam comes to her rescue when he across Emeline and her Aunt being attacked. He soon learns the attack was not random, but the men were sent to kill Emeline. He vows to keep her safe and find out who wants her dead. Emeline is an illegitimate and orphaned so who would want her dead, she inherits her aunts business and realizes she’s now on her own. Liam and Emeline are perfect together she sets out to heal his broken heart. He falls in love with her, but he’s afraid to give his heart to her. There’s a madman on the loose trying to kill her unless Liam and his friends can find him first to keep her safe. An excellent story I loved and I voluntarily wrote a review.

Liam MacKay, Baron Penderhaven, has since the death of his wife and children, kept his heart unfeeling. He has erected walls around himself and avoids social gatherings and marriage-minded women. However, on his way home, he comes across a holdup of a carriage carrying a young woman and her spinster aunt. He witnesses the murder of the aunt and knows the lady will be next. As he rescues her from the highwaymen, a flash flood strands them in hunting lodge until the roads are safe to travel. Emeline LeClaire had lived with her aunt and settles into a life of a seamstress. She never knew her mother or father and her aunt was her whole family. But who wants her dead and why? This is an interesting story line and it kept me turning the pages. Thank you, Collette, for a brave new hero and a woman that finds a way to uncover her past.

3.50 STARS

I didn't care how the h didn't seem to be sad over the death of someone close to her. She went from sad, to glad she could live an independent life, in a few heart beats. After all that she asks the H how he got his scar. She just had a horrendous experience and that is what she wants to know? Not who wanted to do her harm? I guess I could contribute it to shock, but this wasn't mentioned. It took me awhile to feel any warmth from the h.

The H had great loss in his life and didn't want to marry or feel close to anyone ever again.

The story really picks up with suspense and intrigue in the last half of the book. So much was kept from the h and it was one twist after another.

I enjoyed the epilogue and we have lovemaking within marriage, heat level 1.5 out of 5, if that. We have no cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, some romance and a tad of spice. (ljb)

Good book, nice characters who spark off each other. Decent plot. Definitely 4* BUT

The dreaded writing the accent, I hate it,no real issues of its the odd phrase, but the whole book? Unbearable,we know both characters are Scottish we don't need the accent written too, it's not a play needing direction.
Again in the series in the epilogue the author has written the conclusions to the rest of the books in the series, we know who will end up with whom, and when the first child arrives. Spoils the rest of the series.

Liam is an embittered man after the loss of his children and the wife who was unbalanced.

Liam and Emeline meet during a severe storm in which paid killers take over her and her aunt's coach and kill her aunt and try to kill her if Liam hadn't come upon them and saved her.

This story will keep you guessing throughout page after page. Who is trying to kill Emeline and why???

Can Liam ever get over his bitterness and what caused it?????

While traveling through a nasty storm, Liam happens upon two women being held at gunpoint. It’s obvious the men know who the women are and are intent on murder. Liam rescues Emaline but her Aunt Jeneva is shot and killed. And the mystery begins. Who wants to kill Emaline and why? And can she rescue Liam from a horrible past? Collette Cameron knows just how to write a story that keeps you guessing and makes you sigh

To Woo a Highland Warrior, Book 4

Liam MacKay was a Baron, who had lost his wife and two children. He was hardened and indifferent to the wiles of all women and sworn off ever remarrying . Emeline LeClairie was an illegitimate orphan who lived with her spinster maternal Aunt. Liam saved her from attackers and death from a flash flood. Against all odds, they overcame faults of their past to find love and acceptance .

This story of a feisty seamstress and an embittered baron starts off with a bang and doesn't stop! Great characters and a finely crafted plot will keep you turning the pages as quickly as you can. It's also filled with characters from previous novels.

Opening your heart

Liam was such a hero with so much love to give but so damaged by his devious deceased wife and their children that he just can't find it in himself to love again. Until he saves Emeline and helps her to figure out her past. There is danger in finding out her past and also the danger of giving his heart to her. Wonderful story.
