You have to read this epic fantasy novel because of the incredible characters and powerful action!
The first book was difficult to start to get into. Thank God I was listening to the audiobook or I never would've been able to pronounce half the names.
It's a sweeping epic fantasy tale with lots of action, excellent world building and characters who progress, for the most part. I think anyone who enjoys the genre will find themselves enmeshed this well told tale.
The only thing I really didn't like about the series was one of the main characters, Chaylene. Every time she seems to do something to rehabilitate her character, she just turns back into the awful person she is. I have no idea what Ary sees in her.
This last book in The Storm Below series is a nail-biting, action-packed finale to an intriguing epic science fantasy series. I loved the twisted turns in the plot that all came together in this final instalment, and thoroughly enjoyed the very insightful and deep exploration of evil by omission. When we are faced with evil authority figures who demand actions from us that our conscience demands are reprehensible, what can we do? Well, Reid comes up with a whole range of options through the diverse characters of this insightful read. Once again, there is a lot to work with, much food for thought, and also an excellent platform to spark discussion on difficult philosophical topics.
There were a few small things that didn't quite work for me, but they are a matter of personal preference. So, all in all I give this series finale 4,5 stars.
A great way to end the series, with many revelations, and things get neatly wrapped up by the end. I finished this feeling a sense of closure, which is always nice when reaching the end of such an epic story arc spanning so many books. Absolutely start with book one, but don't be daunted by the length of book five when it comes to finish reading the series.
This was the best series that I have read in a while. It started out slow and sappy. But once it got going, it was relentless. The world is truly unique, with a mythology not found anywhere else. We were introduced to so many new characters, only to see them perish. And the Golden Daughter was a truly evil being, yet pitiable in her flaws. I'm kind of sad that the series has ended.
