형태뿐인 사랑

아쿠타가와상 수상작가이자, 꾸준히 인간 내면의 문제를 탐구해온 히라노 게이치로의 첫 번째 연애소설. 히라노 게이치로는 23세에 발표한 데뷔작 <일식>으로 아쿠타가와상을 수상하며 화려하게 문단에 등장한 후, 깊이 있는 주제와 고풍스러운 문체를 트레이드 마크로 자신만의 작품세계를 구축해왔다.

자신의 작품에 일련번호를 붙여 각 단계별로 구체적인 '형태'를 부여하는 작업을 계속해온 점 역시 독특하다. <형태뿐인 사랑>은 <결괴>, <던>을 잇는 '분인주의(分人主義)'를 바탕으로 한 3기 문학으로, 사랑에 관한 히라노 게이치로만의 특별한 철학적 사유를 담고 있다.

<형태뿐인 사랑>은 히라노 게이치로가 사랑에 관해 다룬 첫 소설이다. 이제껏 그가 주로 이야기해온 죽음, 인간의 본성, 내면의 문제와 대비되는 구체적인 형태로서의 몸, 육체와 타인과의 관계를 전면에 내세웠다. 작가는 사고로 한쪽 다리를 잃은 배우와 그녀의 의족을 만들게 된 디자이너의 사랑을 통해, 살아 있는 인간 사이의 관계, 인간의 육체를 이야기한다. 나아가 '나'와 '타인'이라는 서로 다른 존재가 나누는 사랑과 그 본질을 되짚어 간다.

Keiichirō Hirano (平野 啓一郎 Hirano Keiichirō, born June 22, 1975) is a Japanese novelist.

Hirano was born in Gamagori, Aichi prefecture, Japan. He published his first novel (Nisshoku, 日蝕) in 1998 and won the Akutagawa Prize the next year as one of the youngest winners ever (at 23 years of age). He graduated from the Law Department of Kyoto University in 1999. In 2005 he was nominated as a cultural ambassador and spent a year in France.

There are many works of fiction (books, films, plays, artwork etc) that attempt to talk about this particular aspect of love. Very few come close to Keiichiro's mastery- in many aspects but most importantly in terms of elegance, style, and wit.
Excellent work that will no doubt hold up against other works of this subject I will come to witness. 4.5 stars.
