Recovering the Way: How Ancient Discoveries Help Us Walk in the Footsteps of Jesus Today

Rate this book
Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life."
For twenty centuries billions of people have believed in the Truth of Jesus. Even more have aspired to the Life of Jesus. But how many have learned to follow the Way of Jesus? Yes, Jesus taught the most profound truths ever uttered in human history, but there was also a predictable pattern, an intentional rhythm, and a deliberate strategy to the way Jesus lived his remarkable life.
When we learn to practice his way as well as trust his truth , we will find ourselves beginning to live a life that looks more like Jesus. But, as Thomas asked Jesus, "How can we know the way?" This book addresses that question by navigating the centuries of history, language, and culture standing between us and the way of Jesus.
Recovering the Way is written for those who want to understand the truth Jesus taught and to live the way Jesus lived. Filled with over a hundred illustrations and photographs of ancient discoveries-illuminating his life from birth to resurrection-this book will show you how Jesus' teaching and example can shape your life too.

Remarkable on so many levels!

I got so much more out of this book than I expected I would when I downloaded it. This give those of us from the 21st century Western culture a much clearer understanding of Jesus' world, life, and times. How he and the disciples would have interacted and what their environment and culture was like. It goes into not just what the Jewish customs were, but also what the Roman culture and government was like. It has photos and drawings of and describes relevant 1st century archeological finds. It does take some liberties with assumptions, but I didn't find anything objectionable. Wasn't any evidence assumed that I couldn't dismiss if I didn't feel it was substantial; however, the funds listed were generally the most recent. But the best part, and what I didn't expect, is how beautifully it describes and then lays out how to live like Jesus taught us to live. It's a beautiful book. I've already purchased copies for others and I plan to get a written copy for my own library. Haven't read anything this good since Francis Chen.

A great dig into the historical, archeological and cultural background in which Jesus was born, raised, lived and called His disciples to follow Him ... and not just listen to His words and watch His works, but learn how to live the way Jesus lived. Highly recommend!

The chapters about Jesus’ young adulthood and early ministry are the real value in the book. Seeing how Jesus made disciples and calling us to do the same is the best stuff!
