They were never supposed to leave alive…

Only one woman could tempt him to return…

Eric Trask and his brothers have turned their backs on their past. Only their beloved foster father’s funeral could drag them back to the small town of Shaw’s Crossing. Eric is haunted by the memory of GodsAcre, the doomsday cult in the mountains where they were raised and the deadly fire that destroyed it, but one memory still shines bright…Demi Vaughan. Her lush, sexy mouth, her stunning green eyes. Their hot fling seven years ago crashed and burned in the worst possible way, and she’s still mortally pissed at him…and more gorgeous than ever.

Second chances…

Demi Vaughan did her best to forget Eric Trask. They told her from the start that he was a train wreck, and she hadn’t listened. He’d broken her heart and derailed her life, and she’d be damned if she’d let him do it again, now that she’d followed her dream and opened her own restaurant. But the years that passed have only turned Eric into a more concentrated version of what he’d always been—a flint-eyed, brutally ambitious, hyper-focused alpha male hunk. Just taller. Harder. As intoxicating as hell.

Demi tries to withstand Eric’s magnetic pull, but she can’t resist the all-consuming heat between them. But an old evil still lies low in Shaw’s Crossing, and Eric’s arrival has shocked it back into life.

Now it’s not just their hearts that are in danger. It’s their lives…

AUTHOR’S NOTE: Headlong, Book Two of The Hellbound Brotherhood, is the continuing story of Demi and Eric. It began in Hellion, Book One, and picks up their story seven years later. The other titles in The Hellbound Brotherhood are part of a connected series, but each book features its own couple and its own HEA.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN

I started writing my first romance novel in secret. I was working a temp job in an insurance office in Manhattan at the time, and the office manager had made it clear that even if there was nothing to do, I still had to look busy-- never one of my big talents. I felt bad about the wasted time, though, and I needed something to round out my other chosen career, which was singing. Yeah, that's right. Most artists choose a more practical Plan B to back up their improbable Plan A. Me? No way. "Long Shot" is my middle name.

So I sneakily set up a Document 1 and a Document 2 with a spreadsheet on it. If my Boss du Jour walked by I could quick-like-a-bunny switch screens, and whenever the coast was clear, I went back to my story. Not that I was slacking, mind you. If there was work to be done, I did it. The sneakiness felt familiar, though, because I've been teased about reading romances since I was a kid. I think the day I finally grew up was the day I stopped trying to cover up what I was reading on the bus, train or subway. Let people think whatever they like.

It wasn't until I moved to Italy (details of that Long Shot provided later on) that I got serious about writing, though. I found myself with many long, quiet days alone with nothing to do, so I slogged my way bravely to the end of the manuscript and sent it out. Everybody rejected it-except for Kensington. I wrote for them for a few years, and then made a bid for an erotic novella for the new Brava imprint, and oh joy, they accepted it. Then I wrote BEHIND CLOSED DOORS. And so on, and so forth.

That's how I started. I can't think of anything I'd rather do. I never knew it would be so scary, and so hard . . . all that solitude and silence, a blank computer screen, and no one to blame. But still. It's worth it. It's great.

Headlong is the second novel in Shannon's McKenna's Hellbound Brotherhood series, and this is one series you definitely need to read in the order written, because the first novel in the series, Hellion, ended in quite a cliffhanger. Thankfully, fans of Ms.McKenna's novels didn't have to wait long for the release of Headlong, and even better news, it's as action-packed, angst-filled, emotional, and steamy as its predecessor and it gets 5 stars from this reader.

Seven years have passed since Eric Trask and his brothers left town under a shroud of suspicion, but a cryptic phone message from Otis, the former police chief who adopted Eric and his two brothers, telling them that it was imperative they return because what he had to tell them couldn't be told over the phone, was received too late, and it was followed closely by the sad news that Otis was found dead in his home of an apparent stroke or heart attack, and so, as the novel opens, Eric and his brothers are standing together in the cemetery, too shaken to give his eulogy, and being given the evil eye by the rest of the town residents, who never had much use for the Trask boys, and, in fact, blamed them for 14 mysterious deaths which occurred not long after their stepfather's cult and all its members went up in flames, making Eric, Anton, and Mace the only survivors, and the ones who are blamed for what became known as The Prophet's Curse. Also at the gravesite are the girl Eric once loved, Demi Vaughan, her hateful father, Ben Vaughan, who framed Eric for a crime he didn't commit, and her grandfather, Henry Shaw, for whom the town of Shaw's Crossing was named, the two men staring daggers at Eric and his brothers, and also present is Demi, even more lovely than Eric remembered. Demi is totally ignoring him, and what a shock it is when Eric learns that not only is she still in town, when he assumed she'd gone on to the culinary institute and become a professional chef, but also that she was the one who discovered Otis' body lying dead on the floor in his home.

Eric and his brothers aree surprised to learn that there is a reception following the funeral--they weren't invited, and Mace and Anton have no interest in attending. But Eric, now a very successful and wealthy entrepreneur, wants to pay for the reception and heads there just to write a check and leave. He's shocked to discover that reception is being held at what is now Demi's Cafe, and that she's the one who is footing the bill for the reception. The last thing she wants is Eric's money--she just wants him gone. He's even more shocked to learn that it was Demi who caved in to her father's demands when Eric was arrested and charged with stealing her father's Porsche, driving drunk, and was facing at least a decade in prison for a crime he didn't commit, not believing his protestations of innocence. Eric soon learns that the only reason he didn't end up in prison was because Demi agreed to work in the family business, just so that her father would drop the charges against him. She was brokenhearted when he left, and she is still carrying a major grudge all these years later, and just wants Eric gone.

There are two very suspicious thugs attending the reception, and neither Demi nor Eric know who they are--unusual in such a small town where everyone knows everyone, and after they are politely asked to leave, Eric overhears what sounds like a plot against Demi, so he follows them, right to Ben Vaughan's home, and overhears even more, enough to know that he won't be leaving Shaw's Crossing any time soon.

From that point on, this novel takes you on a roller-coaster ride of action, suspense and danger, steamy sex, emotional angst, drama, and more than one attempted kidnapping and murder. As a long-time fan of Ms. McKenna's novels, I should have expected some of the surprising twists and turns in this story, but I was still absolutely floored by the direction she took in this novel. If you're looking for a scorchingly hot, second chance at love, violent thriller of a romance novel, look no further--grab a copy of Hellion and start reading this series now. Once again, as with Hellion, I couldn't put this novel down, and I can hardly wait to read the next novel in this series, because this novel too ends in a cliffhanger, and I simply have to know where the amazing Ms. McKenna is going to go from here.

I usually take notes or highlight sections that I want to reference in my reviews. After finishing Hellion, Headlong was queued up and I just dove right in and could not put it down let alone write up notes (I was hellbent on finishing it!!!) Headlong starts seven years after Hellion and picks up at an event that brings the Trask men back to town. Their arrival sets off a chain of events that takes the reader on a wild ride. So we have mystery, suspense, violence, love, sex, family, betrayal and what this author does best.... she writes women characters that are strong.

I really couldn't take to the characters I thought Eric was too soft and a pushover and demi was too hard, I couldn't feel any emotion in their romance and I was disappointed with the ending. I dont think I would read the next installment.

4.5 Scorching Suspenseful Stars!
This second book in McKenna's Hellbound Brotherhood series pick's right up after the heartbreaking ending from book one. Eric and his brother's are back in the town that hold's so many horrible memories for them. They are determined to quickly take care of business and then leave, never to return. But Eric unexpectedly see's Demi again, the woman who holds his heart. They were torn apart seven long years ago, neither knowing the truth, but both nursing a broken heart. Even tho they believe they were betrayed by the other, the magnetic pull between them is too strong to keep them apart. They soon find their way back to each other, learning how they were manipulated by others. But the dark forces that tore them apart before are still working behind the scenes and gaining power. This fast paced, scorching hot romance hits the ground running as it reveals several of the secrets behind GodsAcre. There are several twists and turns that took my breath away and kept me completely riveted. Demi is just as strong-willed as ever, giving Eric the complications he loves to unravel. Their romance is thrilling, seductive and heartpounding. There are still so many secrets about the mystery surrounding GodsAcre, and who it is that wants to destroy Eric and his brothers. I loved finding out more about the events leading to their departure from GodsAcre and also more about Mace and Anton Trask. The ending left me breathless and wanting more. I can't wait to find out what happens next for the Trask brothers!

What a good book. Love the characters and the action. While book one introduced us to Demi and Eric this one follows them through what could be their last few moments together. This one's a nail biter.

For seven long years they haven't seen each other but when Eric and his brothers come back to bury Otis, their adopted father, after he left a cryptic voicemail on each of the brother's phones, he can't miss Demi. His love for her hasn't dimmed but it looks like she might feel differently now. He expected that but he thought he had put it past him, God knows he's tried.

Demi is finally running her own restaurant and her life is somewhat manageable but she knows as soon as she sees Eric and locks eyes with him there is definitely something still there. Something she's worked too hard to forget, that chemistry. But she will not let Eric derail her life again.

Now if Eric could just get out of town without drama that would be great. But trouble in Shaws Crossing is never far from Eric and Demi. Little do they know they are tied together by something much darker than their love for one another, something that might kill them.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I did not read Hellion first and I realize that I want to go back and read it for the back story. Still this was a good story that combined suspense and romance in a story that begs the question about whether or not you would want to go home again, when home is not particularly friendly to you and holds some really frightening memories. In this story home also holds the key to Eric's heart in Demi the woman he can't forget. This is a series I want to continue to explore as his brothers are featured. All these men are strong and their ability to move forward from where they began will likely provide good stories.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I received this ARC in exchange for an Honest review, so I have to be honest here: I enjoyed it, but it’s a little too unbelievable.
We met Demi and Eric in Hellion – the first in Shannon McKenna’s Hellbound series, and now we finish their story in Headlong. It’s seven years later and there’s a few things to be resolved.
Eric is reluctantly back in town, and Demi, who has done her best to get over him, and build the life she wants, tries to be polite and professional, but finds herself right back where she was 7 years ago when he, as far as she knows, ruined her life.
Eric tries so hard to respect her wishes and leave her alone, but something is going on in this town. The GodsAcre Curse that destroyed his chance with Demi, and drove him from town is still there, and it’s ramping up.
I love Shannon McKenna – I always know what I’m getting with one of her books. A crazy ride of Alpha-Male type heroes, and beaten-but-not-broken heroines; intensely passionate romance; never-in-your-wildest-nightmare intrigues; and plots by insanely evil bad guys. It’s a simple formula and it works. I get to suspend my belief for a few hours and enjoy the Roller-Coaster.
But the Roller-Coaster seemed to be missing a few twists and loops in this book. Don’t get me wrong – I still very much enjoyed it, but Demi’s actions forced me to not just suspend my beliefs, but abandon them completely.
She has worked so freaking hard to move on from Eric, and to create a life that resembles the dreams she had 7 years ago, but the moment he’s back her common sense and attitude fly out the window. Even down to doing something so freaking stupid that it puts both her and Eric in mortal danger – she’s questioning her actions, and wondering what the hell is going on, but she still freaking does it. I get that the feelings she had for Eric are still there, but given how badly he (so she thinks) hurt her, I would have expected her to play a little harder to get.
Then there’s the action I was anticipating. It’s there, the book builds up to something that happens, but it’s not as much as I’m used to with Ms McKenna’s books. It’s clear that we have only just begun to learn about what’s really going on behind the GodsAcre Curse.
This book is a great way to spend an afternoon, but it felt rushed. I needed more action, more romance, just more everything.
I’m looking forward to Mace and Anton’s books – I want to know what’s going on, with GodsAcre, and I also want another look at Eric and Demi – I feel like there is more to tell here.

Headlong is the second part of the first book in Shannon McKenna’s new series, The Hellbound Brotherhood. It follows the introductory Hellion, the backstory of Eric Trask and Demi Vaughan. Headlong picks up seven years later when Eric’s stepfather, Otis, dies and he and his brothers return to Shaw’s Crossing for the funeral. Eric left Shaw’s Crossing after his relationship with Demi ended to concentrate on his technological ability and become a successful entrepreneur in the world of app design based in San Francisco.

When Eric and his brothers return to Shaw’s Crossing for Otis’s funeral, Eric and Demi find their attraction never diminished. Complicating matters, Eric stays in town to settle his stepfather’s estate and begins to notice strange men in town, unexplained deaths and weird happenings on the property known as GodsAcre, the former location of the cult compound where Eric and his brothers were raised. Eric soon realizes Demi is a victim in this dangerous scheme but needs his brothers’ help to save her. The reader is taken through the twists and turns of the danger in store for Eric and Demi.

I found Demi a little difficult to warm up to this time around. She’s strong and smart and made it clear to Eric that she was only getting in it again with him for sex only. Eric’s feelings for her are real and she knows that but yet he agreed to her terms setting himself up for rejection again, but hoping for more. Other than that, I found Headlong to be the typical Shannon McKenna suspenseful and sexy thriller that I know and love. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series. Bring it on!

A-M-A-Z-I-N-G read! I literally enjoyed every bit of it!!

In this book, the eery creepy evil factor is back! And it’s lurking in the shadows waiting for just the moment to attack. Too bad for them, Eric chose to be involved!

When the woman he loves is in danger, nothing can stop him. Even if it means losing his sanity… or life in the process.

Surviving a childhood in GodsAcre and the massacre that happened there apparently are not enough to keep troubles away from a man’s life. And this is just how I love it!

The effect that this book has on me is just…. It’s a full experience! Only Mckenna’s books will touch your heart, squeeze it, ease it, make it stop, and even jump in your chest! And man how she does it! Beautifully. If you can’t tolerate irregular heartbeats, stay away!

Of course, there are those erotic hot scenes that melt your brain but there are also these well-drawn characters and chemistry, well-written dialogues, funny moments and attention to details that will make you wonder about the magic this author is creating.

This is the book you need to enjoy a good time. It has everything. It’s a romantic thriller filled with suspense and hi-tech weapons! And I have no doubt that’s only the beginning. In this book, the mystery has yet to be unravelled, and I can’t wait for more… more about the evil, more about the characters… This new guy, Nate, (wink) I like him already… As for Anton, oh heart, please stop, all that caring-sarcastic mix is just too much!!

Hellbent, here I come!

This is Eric Trask and Demetra 'Demi' Vaughn's continuing story seven years after 'Hellion.'

Eric never stopped loving Demi but he's spent the last seven years building his wildly successful business and trying to forget. Shaw's Crossing, Demi and the GodsAcre curse.

Demi's life was changed forever after she made a deal with her devil of a father, but she's found a way to reclaim some of her dreams even if it left her jaded.

Eric and his brothers never planned to return to Shaw's Crossing, but when their adopted father dies they all return one last time. Most of the townspeople would be happy to never see them again, and someone is willing to kill to make them go away. But Demi feels the same pull to Eric she had seven years ago and hopes one last fling will rid herself of his memory once and for all.

There's a lot of eroticism in between revealing secrets, murder and sinister, deadly plots that involve the Trask brothers, Demi and the townspeople.

I'm slightly warming up to Demi but Eric is the true star in this story. He's the persecuted hero you can easily fall in love with, while Demi's walls make her come across as a cold, bitch. I wish the author showed us more than told us who she was under the anger, I might have liked her more.

I struggled with believability regarding the GodsAcre Curse and it's secrets affecting the town, but maybe once all is revealed it will make sense.

Headlong is the second book in Shannon McKenna’s Hellbound Brotherhood series and it picks up seven years after the end of the first book where she introduced us to Eric and Demi. It gives us the rest of their story so strap in and throw your hands up in the air as it is going to be on heck of a ride that Shannon is taking us on!
Eric has left Shaw’s Crossing in his rare view mirror and not him or his brothers are planning to return … until … their foster father dies and they return for the funeral … Their arrival sets off a chain reaction that leaves us with a growing body count! Throw in Shannon’s masterful story telling skills mixed with mystery, suspense, violence, love, sex and family and you are left breathless … you finish the book and go checking immediately when is the next one supposed to be published and you note it down in your google calendar and meanwhile you let your imagination fly wild!
I can imagine people saying that it is too unbelievable, too wild, too much of everything but having read the McClouds and friends series and other cult and doomsday premises based books, The Hellbound Brotherhood is just perfect and you need to let go of your preconceived notions and go with the flow, well, actually, be willing to ride the white waters without a life vest not paddle with couple of bullets in you!

Action, Adventure, Love and Sex!! A winning combination!
Headlong is a mystery/romance/action story which picks up 7 years after fated star-crossed lovers, Eric and Demi are torn apart by unknown forces determined to keep them apart. A devastating turn of fate brings them, grudgingly, together once more. The intense emotional battle they wage to protect themselves from their need/desire to be together is upstaged by the powerful, hidden secret that seems to be destroying everything Eric touches. In this second book of the Hellbound Brotherhood, McKenna skillfully unveils more of the secrets of GodsAcre, the vortex of the unknown evil that has brought so much pain and heartache to their sleepy little town. In this fast paced, action/adventure/love story, together with Eric and Demi, we uncover the mysteries and betrayals that explain why Eric is so tormented by his past. We come to better understand how Demi’s strong, willfulness was born out of necessity. As they fight their personal battles, we come to admire their deep need for justice and their courageous commitment to uncover all of the secrets of Shaw’s Crossing and GodsAcre, together. It’s a love story for the ages!!!

After the man, Otis, who raised the three brothers passes away, they must return to the town that was horrible to them. Eric left seven years ago when he was framed for a crime he never committed. Now he owns several apps that has made him very rich. He plans to attend the funeral and then get the heck out of that town. Demi is the princess of the town, her family is the founders of the town. She was hurt seven years ago by Eric and does not plan to be pulled into his life again. When Eric overhears a plot against Demi, he decides to stay until she’s safe whether she likes it or not.
Action, sex, and a little cliffhanger. Just like the first book, Hellion, I still wasn’t fond of Demi. She tried too hard to be a badass and it just made her look mean. I know everyone likes a strong woman but she pushed it.

In part-two, we get to experience the more grown-up Demi and Eric as this book takes place seven years after we saw them last. Eric has become a wealthy tech mogul and Demi has achieved her dream of having her own restaurant (or in this instance, café).

Eric comes back to town for the funeral of his adoptive father, Otis. He and his brothers find the timing of his death suspicious, but the coroner has ruled the cause of death as natural. All three men are resolved to be in and out of town as quickly as possible. That changes for Eric when he sees Demi again.

This is a highly gratifying sequel to Hellion. Demi has grown into the woman we all aspire to be—strong, uncompromising and tough—but still kind and likeable. An Eric is such a stoic yet tortured hero, so rewarding to see the characters come together again.

This being the second book in the Hellbound Brotherhood series

Eric Trask has returned to Shaw’s Crossing to bury Ottis Trask, his adopted father. What he didn’t expect was seeing Demi at the funeral and all the old feelings coming back.
Demi Vaughan hadn’t expected to see Eric there but wasn’t surprised.
Demi just felt all the heartbreak and betrayal at seeing him, but did he betrayed her.
Can they pickup where they left off in their romance and find a happy ever after or will the power of the Prophet’s curse and her father keep them apart forever!
Shannon McKenna only knows how to write a suspense that is steamy and hot .
I was given an opportunity to get ARC in exchange for my honest opinion

When Otis's death brings the Trask brothers back for his funeral; there are a few mysteries popping up- why did Otis call all 3 sons and leave a cryptic message that they had to come home and he would tells them something about GodsAcre. When a heart attack kills him, it is Demi who finds him. At the funeral the brothers are not welcome and want nothing more than to get out of town. Erik sees Demi and when he finds there is danger for Demi, he abandons thoughts of leaving and warns Demi (who still hates him). What a spine tingling, roller coaster ensues! I could not put this book down as Erik and Demi find out they were set up and against each other, there are people dying of heart attacks for years now, and they are both in danger! I can't wait to read Book 3!

Headlong is a great second book of the Hellbound Brotherhood series, which starts out creating a new world around the Trask brothers, their women and friends. It has everything it needs to be just as fantastic as the McCloud Brothers series. I am very happy to have a new book series, where I can look forward to each new book to learn more about everyone and find out about the mystery of GodsAcres.
I must admit I don't undrstand how come it takes Demi so long to believe Eric, especially when Eric tells her he is all in, wants a future with her and she is like oh no, let's just keep it casual. But Eric makes up for Demi's hesitation. He acts just the way you want him to!
The secrets about the deaths, GodAcres, the prophet's curse are so suspenseful that one gets totally hooked and as a Shannon McKenna fan I can't wait for the next books. So the next one is about Anton and Fiona and I am sure it will be great. But what I am really looking forward to is the book about Nate and Elisa. I just love their beginning and can't wait to find out how their story continues.
So please write quickly dear Shannon McKenna.
Love your books!

OMG.! I can honestly say that I cannot wait to read the stories for Eric's two brothers. I could not put this book down. Thrill ride from start to finish. I have read every book Ms. McKenna has written, and she never disappoints. The one thing that always stands out to me in her books, is that the main characters always love with every part of their being. That is something that is so lacking in our current society. Her stories always take me away from my own problems. Thank you Shannon.!!

I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest!
This was a great book !
The Trask men are back in Shaw's Crossing.
Eric would like very much to forget about his past.
Returning for his foster father's funeral bring all of that back with a vengeance.
Demi is keeping her distance from Eric, but the attraction is still there.
Is Eric's return a good thing or bad thing ?
Loved the characters + the storytelling !
It has all the ingredients that you need for a great book!
I can't wait for the next book in this series.

The second book in The Hellbound Brotherhood series brings Eric and Demi's story. The author once again brings an action packed and exciting story with strong characters with a steamy chemistry. It's an emotional story with enough twists and turns to keep you glued to the pages. The scenes are described in vivid detail and the story flows fluidly. I loved reading their story and am looking forward to the next book.

After reading the first book, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this book. The reveals were shocking and effective in creating tension, drama and mystery. I felt for the two main characters who were dealt with such a horrible situation. The love they had for each other was strong and believable. If only she had tried to talk to him sooner. Betrayal was at it’s highest in this book or was it? Another book is coming so I guess I’ll find out.

7y has passed since Eric part ways with Demi because of her father. Eric and his brothers are back in Shaw's Crossing to bury their adoptive father who died in a supposedly heartattac. Then things go bad again when Eric tries to sell GodsAcres property. Kidnappings of Demi, other dead by heartattacs, the GodsAcre's curse is back to live.

This such a great addition to the "Hellbound Brotherhood" series. This is just as amazing as "Hellion". This is a very written and nicely developed story that is extremely intriguing and very captivating. I could not put it down. Eric and Demi are strong and very likable characters you will not soon forget. This is their second chance story. What a thrilling story with action, adventure and plenty of steamy goodness. The twists and turns are addictive and fantastic!

This is the second book in this series and 7 years after the first book. Eric Trask and his brothers are in Shaw’s Landing for the funeral of there adopted father. Eric thinks he is over Demi but he’s not. I love a strong woman but she was a little over the top. She did a little to much back and forth for my taste. Totally over the top crazy bad guys. I did like this book but it was not my favorite.

This is the 1st book I've read written by Shannon McKenna; she has done a great job at writing a good book; I can’t wait to read more of her books.

The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.

I loved the chemistry between the characters.

The second book in the The Hellbound Brotherhood series a well written story and with each new book this series just gets better. This book picks up seven years after Hellion and continues on Eric Trask and Demi Vaughan's story. I want to read the next book. I absolutely loved this book! So happy that Demi and Eric found heir way back to each other. They both have misconceptions about what happened seven years ago and are skeptical of the other. Deep down they still have strong feelings. I enjoyed the suspense story and can’t wait to find out what happens next!

Demi and Eric book 2 - So much emotion and sizzle combined in this story! Will Eric solve the mystery of the Prophet's Curse? Can their relationship survive it all? Can't wait for the rest of this story to play out! Keeps you turning those pages, but I have to admit I do backtrack to read the sizlzing parts over again. Oh yea....
