John Sweet inherited the responsibility of running Sweetie’s Pizza from his grandparents, but he is carrying a heavy secret. His small family-run pizzeria is struggling to compete in the college town that once made the restaurant famous. If he can’t turn things around fast, John will have to shut the pizza ovens off—forever. When Gia applies for a job at Sweetie’s, she doesn’t tell John who she is—and that decision might cost her everything she really wants. Callie Chase works as a professional book editor and teaches writing, copyediting, and editing (under her legal name) in the Writers Program at UCLA Extension.

A second generation author, she is the oldest daughter of a career romance writer, which she likes to joke explains a *lot.* She is obsessed with mythology and folklore and could happily live inside a fantasy video game or Middle Earth (with the right weapons and company, of course).

Callie adores horror and fantasy, and writes adventure-filled love stories that draw on themes of found family, redemption, and overcoming monsters of all types. She lives in Los Angeles, which is the perfect intersection of horror and fantasy for someone born and raised in the Midwest.

Find Callie on social media or her website where she offers a free 65,000 word novel set in the Thieves of Tutovl universe when you sign up for her newsletter. She's hard at work on multiple series: The Thieves of Tutovl books are slow-burn, lower heat standalone fantasy romances that can be read in any order, but which bring back some of the same characters from book to book. In 2023, she'll be releasing two new series set in the same world, both of which are darker and steamier that the lighter Thieves books.

If you like serial fiction, her zombie series Bug is available on Kindle Vella. She wasn't kidding about loving horror and fantasy! But always with a happy ever after.

This is a 5-star book written by Callie Chase. It is about what families will do for each other and how they stand together. Gia is in the next last semester of college and she doesn't know if she wants to go and work for the family business in the corporate offices. She is out with her best friend Shelby at a local pizzeria and she sees how things are running. The pizza is good but service is slow. She knows that she could help the pizzeria so she puts a plan together and she goes and talks to the owner. She talks John into giving her a intern job and she works beside John. Things are going good for them until her parents come for the weekend. She had been with John and they had just gotten to the pizzeria. This is when John finds out who Gia really is and he gets mad because she did not tell him. Now he has put distance between them and Gia knows his real feelings for her. Since working with John, she knows that the pizzeria needs help so she comes up with a plan but she needs help. Gia calls Kia, he ex and he comes to talk with her and go over what he needs to do. John knows he needs to apologize to Gia so he goes to her dorm and sees Gia with Kia, he turns around and walks out without speaking to her.
Will Gia stay for the rest of the school year or will she leave early? Can she pull her plan together for Sweetie's Pizzeria and get it making money again?
Will John get past his mistrust of Gia and let her in or will he lose her for good?
This was a wonderful read and I would recommend it to anyone.

I received an ARC of this book for my voluntarily and honest review.

A Realistic Must Read!

I love the style of writing. It's so original and unique. It's like the Callie Chase is skipping the details but then circles back to explain everything. Callie does this every time! Moat writers keep going and let the reader wonder what's going on with a full circle at the end. I think circling back to the details while they're still fresh is quite brilliant. I can't tell if it's a deliberately planned thing or if this is just the way the writer's mind works. Either way, I love it just the same! As for the story! I love how Gia and John interact from beginning, middle, and end. It's realistic to how life can really be. Normally us readers are the ones unable to figure out why things don't work but at least in the story we get the bigger picture. And that ended! Geez! Take no mercy on my tear ducts! This is a must read to anyone reading this! Buy the book, read, and review. Lastly, thank you, Callie for writing this book! I shall put you on my list of authors to follow.

This sweet and light-hearted book was used during a writing class I attended via Romance Writing Academy and rightly so. This book is a well written first novel with an adorable cast of characters and lots of character beats that move the main characters closer and farther away from their eventual happily ever after. There's misunderstandings but nothing too over the top and even the secondary characters are likeable to the point where you want to root for them too. It's a story of rich girl meets jaded poor boy with romance and pizza, a great escape during a time when the world came be a bit much to handle right now.

Loved Gia and the Sweet Family. The chemistry between Gia and John was incendiary, but sadly felt let down by the extreme 180 conflicts after each tender moment.

**Slight spoilers below**

I almost got whiplash from a couple of them (especially the final two). Have to say, it's a good job John was so persistent. A lesser man would have given up after three knockbacks, I'm sure. Still. I loved the final resolution (even though I did guess that Gram would also get her HEA).

Cute story, keeps you hooked!

This book was such a cute read. Traditional poor boy meets rich girl plot but I loved the conflicts that kept the happy ending from happening so quick. Definitely can't wait to read the rest of the series.

I didn’t like any of it. Trying to overcome, I made it about 33% and DNF
I wanted to count how many times they said Gia. It was repetitive and boring.
