The daughter of a town marshal, Linda Lael Miller is a #1 New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author of more than 100 historical and contemporary novels, most of which reflect her love of the West. Raised in Northport, Washington, Linda pursued her wanderlust, living in London and Arizona and traveling the world before returning to the state of her birth to settle down on a spacious property outside Spokane. Linda traces the birth of her writing career to the day when a Northport teacher told her that the stories she was writing were good, that she just might have a future in writing. Later, when she decided to write novels, she endured her share of rejection before she sold Fletcher’s Woman in 1983 to Pocket Books. Since then, Linda has successfully published historicals, contemporaries, paranormals, mysteries and thrillers before coming home, in a literal sense, and concentrating on novels with a Western flavor. For her devotion to her craft, the Romance Writers of America awarded her their prestigious Nora Roberts Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007. Long a passionate Civil War buff, Linda has studied the era avidly for almost thirty years. She has read literally hundreds of books on the subject, explored numerous battlegrounds and made many visits to her favorite, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, where she has witnessed re-enactments of the legendary clash between North and South. Linda explores that turbulent time in The Yankee Widow, a May 7, 2019 MIRA Books hardcover, also available in digital and audiobook formats. Dedicated to helping others, “The First Lady of the West” personally financed fifteen years of her Linda Lael Miller Scholarships for Women, which she awarded to women 25 years and older who were seeking to improve their lot in life through education. She anticipates that her next charitable endeavors will benefit four-legged critters. This was a re-read for me a a series I read years ago. It was just as good this time around. There are three McKettrick brothers: Tate, Garrett and Austin. Each book is devoted to one brother and him finding or getting a second chance with the love of his life. I loved each one for different reasons. Tate is such a good man but he made a "mistake" in college that cost him his relationship with Libby Remington. But, he did get twin girls he loves (and an ex-wife) out of it. He's serious about running the ranch and serious about trying again with Libby. Libby is a great character as well. She has given up so much. When her mother left, she became the Mom and when her Dad was sick she cared for him until his death. She deserves the love she finds with Tate. It is also great to see that play out in the next two books. Garrett has always wanted to be a politician. He's working for a Texas Senator when a scandal ends the Senator's career. Garrett comes home to the ranch confused about his future. He really believed in the Senator who turned out to be very different than he thought. He's helping Tate on the ranch and becomes involved with Julie Remington who is Libby's sister. Libby is a single Mom dealing with a wonderfully precious four-year old and an ex who has decided he wants to be in his son's life. Julie is a high school teacher and thinks little of politicians. She see Garrett as very different than her and doesn't think they have a chance. On-going problems on the ranch continue and force Garrett and Julie to see what they really are to each other and to commit to being a family. Austin is the maverick of the family. He's home recovering from injuries in the rodeo. His former high school sweetheart, Paige Remington, is asked by Tate and Garrett to serve as Austin's nurse since she is between jobs. Both Austin and Paige have so much pain over their earlier relationship. When things got too serious, Austin did something stupid to get her to break up with him rather than talking to her. She is still very hurt. Austin also feels responsible for his parent's death since they were coming home from seeing him at a rodeo when they died in a car crash. All of this has created some very destructive behaviors for Austin. Austin finally talks to Paige and explains why he did what he did. He also proves to her that he is no longer than boy but a man who can think of more than himself and can be trusted. The on-going ranch problems are resolved as are the romances. I really enjoyed this series and will definitely re-read it.
I got hooked on the Arizona branch of the family until Holt returned to Texas and then Clay. Each branch of the family and each character is like part of my family a d I love reading about them. Thanks, Linda.
