A Hope City Duet

Rate this book
One City... Countless Stories.

A new series begins with two full-length books by two USA Today Authors

Brock – Book 1

It had taken five years for Detective Kallie Redman to become emotionally and psychologically available after her cop-husband devastated their marriage and her career. The Hope City Police Department offered her a new beginning and over a thousand miles between her old life and her new. Being partnered with Brock King didn’t hurt either. He was smart, generous—and too sexy for words.

Placed under a microscope and intense pressure to solve a high-profile murder, homicide detective Brock King didn't need or want a new partner. He managed his stress-filled life via sleep deprivation, a metabolism fueled by sugar and caffeine, and an all-consuming passion for his job. He had little time for anything else—and he was soul-tired of that wash-rinse-dry-repeat cycle. He’d written off finding a woman who’d put up with the odd hours, physical danger, and emotional stress of his job—until Kallie Redman. The woman was wicked sharp, ran on caffeine, and rocked one smoking hot body.

Unfortunately, the profession they chose had a way of grinding people into the ground, and the high-profile nature of this murder case guaranteed scrutiny from the press, the victim's extremely wealthy family and politicians at the highest levels. He’d begun to question if he’d have a job at the end––or a shot at a life with Kallie.

Sean – Book 2
The last thing arson detective Sean McBride expected while entrenched in the ongoing investigation of a serial arsonist was to meet a feisty insurance company fire investigator. But when she landed at his feet, breaking her wrist, he had more on his mind than just finding the elusive fire-starter. Picking her out of the ashes was easy. Needing to work with her…not so much.
Harper Walsh was stunned when the handsome detective insisted on taking her to the ER…even more stunned when he suggested they work together. But the stoic detective gave mixed messages…did he want her arson experience or something more?
Finding a woman who understood the demands of his job quickly had their partnership grow into love. He even introduced her to his large, crazy, but loveable family. But the arsonist was not as hidden as they suspected, and Harper gets too close to danger before Sean has a chance to smoke him out.
Will Sean be able to save Harper before the arsonist goes up in flames, taking her with him?

Scenes and language similar to an R-Rated movie. 18+ readers only.

The first book in the new Hope City series is a duet with two complete stories.
Book one is Brock.
Though he loves his job, Brock King has begun to despair of ever finding a woman who could deal with the rigors of his job as a Hope City homicide detective. That is until he is temporarily partnered with Detective Kallie Redman.

“Brock leaned down and kissed her cheek quickly.
"Boundaries, Detective King."
"Nobody was watching, Detective Redman." He wrapped his arms around her.
"Well in that case, kiss me like you mean it, and then let's go get us a murderer."

Together Brock and Kallie navigate a very high profile case, the stresses of their dangerous job and the unexpected connection they feel for each other.
This is my first book by Kris Michaels and I loved her storytelling. Lots of suspense, and romance without unnecessary angst or drama.
*****
Sean’s story is the second part of this duet. He is an arson detective with Hope City PD.
Sean McBride has little social life and is working long hours. He is surviving on caffeine and little sleep. He is at a point in his life that he wants more than a superficial one or two night fling.

Sean’s first encounter with insurance arson investigator Harper Walsh does not go well, but Sean is determined to get a second chance.

“Then let me get you home, and I’ll warm you up even more.”
The idea of Sean’s way of warming her caused tingles to move throughout her body. “Is that a promise?”
“Babe, that’s a guarantee.”

I loved the suspense and mystery to this story. It kept me guessing till the very end!
I am loving the start to this new series and really look forward to more Hope City!

What a fantastic way to start a new series. And a great collaboration by two of my favorite authors. They made an awesome job by interconnect both stories. Each with her own amazing writing style it was a perfect blend of two talented authors.

Title: Brock
Author: Kris Michaels

Loved it. Kris Micheal is awesome at suspense romance and her stories are always amazing.
Brock King is a Homicide Detective at Hope City and just started investigate a high profile murder.
Due to his partner has been assigned to the FBI temporarily, he is assigned to a new partner. He is a very dedicated detective. Sexy and drinks too much coffee.
Kallie Redman is starting fresh from a troubled past. She is beautiful, smart and a very good detective. She’s a strong heroine. Love her.
Both are immediately attracted to each other and wonder if they could make it work
Love how Brock and Kallie were with each other. They were each other’s equals. And how Brock knew how to have her six even though it killed him not to protect her like he wanted to.
The plot was awesome. True to Kris’ style it was twisted and had you guessing.
Awesome read and highly recommended if you love strong heroines, very good written suspense romance and sexy heroes.
Can’t wait for Brody’s book.

Title: Sean
Author: Maryann Jordan.

Sean McBride is a Arson detective. The Oldest of 6 and lifetime friends with the King’s and Brock King being his best friend.
While investigating a serial arson that’s been happening, he meets insurance fire investigator Harper Walsh.
Love Sean. He’s alpha, loyal, loves his family, smart and dedicated to his work.
Harper Walsh is a smart fire investigator. She is loyal and dedicated to her work.
They were perfect for each other. They had good chemistry both at work and in their love life.
Love reading about al the McBride’s and getting a glimpse of what’s more to come in this series.
Love the storyline and guessing who the arsonist was throughout the book. I really didn’t see that coming. Great job Maryann.
Can’t wait for Carter. It’s going to be awesome and one of my favorite tropes, single parent.

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ STARS!

What a great start to a new series! Very family driven with interconnected families and many new characters introduced. The series takes place in Maryland in a city that sounds a lot like Baltimore. (I’m from Maryland so this series is exciting to me for that reason alone!)

Brock - Brock is a homicide detective working a very high profile murder. He is a tough as nails and hardened cop who is the oldest of 6 kids and best friends with Sean since they were 2! He is assigned a new partner that he isn’t all that happy about and even less so when finds out the new partner is a woman! Kallie, the new partner, has an interesting backstory and just wants a fresh start. She is tough, determined, smart and kind. She was my favorite character in this story because she is smart and doesn’t take any crap from anyone. These two fall almost in instalove which I’m usually not a fan of, but it seems to organically work for them. The plot line was very intriguing and kept me interested by trying to determine who the ‘bad guy’ was! Lots of characters with many possibilities! Nicely done!

Ms. Michaels is a new author to me so I was excited to read her. This story had great characters and a super plot line with an exciting mystery! I look forward to seeing how more of the story plays out in future stories. The next story, Brody, had an awfully enticing intro and I cannot wait to read that one! Great hook, Ms. Michaels!

Sean - Sean is a police officer with a specialization in arson, so he works in the arson department. He is the oldest of 5, ex marine, mid-30s and very alpha. He is strong, loyal, smart, determined and sweet, though his initial encounter with Heather isn’t sweet at all! He has been around the block enough to know that casual sex isn’t for him anymore and someone with substance is what he wants, though he’s not currently looking for it. He meets Heather at a work site where he doesn’t think she belongs and yells at her which startles her into falling and breaking her arm. (Not sweet at all!). Heather is smart, loyal, sweet and ambitious. She is working hard to find herself and her new career path seems a perfect choice for her. As a fire investigator for an insurance company, her path crosses with Sean’s several times and they begin to date. They have great chemistry and become friends while both deciding to explore more. You can’t help rooting for them because they seem so sweet together.

The story is typical Maryann Jordan with romance and suspense. She does a fabulous job of creating characters that you root for and a story line that you can’t help but want to delve more into. I LOVE the fire explanations, the constellation explanations and the Greek mythology reference. I couldn’t wait to see where it would end up and who the ‘bad guy’ was. Bravo to a job well done! Can’t wait to meet more of her new characters!

I received an ARC for this book and this is my unbiased review.

Kris Michaels & Maryann Jordan are two favorite authors and when they decided to team up I was truly excited to read what they came up with. I have to say Hope City Duet exceeded all my expectations. A couple of intriguing stories filled with solid, genuinely interesting and likeable characters that mesh well in both stories. It all starts with one crime scene and each story diverges from there. You will have some hmmm, aha and wow I didn't see that one coming moments in both books.

Brock
Brock King is married to his job and makes no apologies for that. Being a homocide detective just does it for him. Now he's caught a case that may just be the most important of his career or at least the one with the most notoriety. He also has a new partner, Kallie Redman. They are cut from the same cloth. She just gets his devotion to the job because that's the way she is too. Just one flaw in this whole thing; their instantaneous and palpable attraction to one another. Acting on it may be a mistake and one they both have to be willing to take.

There's a lot at play in this murder mystery romance that will capture your interest and definitely keep you guessing. Some great twists, a couple of crazies and a huge loving family round out this entertaining story.

Sean
Sean McBride is a man on a mission; catching a serial arsonist. It ties up his days and at times invades his nights. He needs to catch a break but all he manages to do is cause insurance fire investigator, Harper Walsh, to break her wrist. But it may be his lucky day because she "gets him." Harper not only provides a different perspective on the fires she also is a refuge amidst all the insanity. Her kindness, empathy, compassion and generosity speak to him on every level.

The suspense of identifying the arsonist will keep you turning the page. Maryann is able to steer you several different ways as she cleverly drops clubs about who may be the culprit. As with Brock, family plays an important role in this romance. Great reading!

High stakes murder & arson, sexy cops, strong women, twisting plots, big nosy, loving families & plenty of heat - what is not to love? I’ve been eagerly awaiting this brand new series, as it has me written all over it & the talented duo of Kris Michaels & Maryann Jordan have not disappointed me!

Brock - a brilliant, gritty suspense thriller that had me hooked and guessing from the start. Brock King is a dedicated homicide detective, who operates on too little sleep, too much caffeine & a non existent personal life. He’s also sexy & smart, doesn’t always make nice but he does get the job done. Temporarily partnered with equally dedicated Detective Kallie Redman to solve a high profile murder, Brock soon starts to wonder if theirs can be more than just a working relationship. Kallie has plenty of ghosts from her past including an ex-cop, ex-husband who left her personal & professional life in tatters but she survived, grew stronger & is now returning to the job she excelled at. Smart, sexy & honest Kallie’s addiction to caffeine rivals Brock’s & they instantly gel as both work partners & on a much more personal level. As they follow the evidence & join the dots to solve the case can these two perfectly imperfect characters find their own HEA?
It was a great story that I thoroughly enjoyed, plenty of suspense, an intriguing twisting turning plot (I couldn’t guess), heat, laughter & wonderful characters including Brock’s fabulous mother with the added bonus of a link to Guardian - perfect! Can’t wait fro Brody’s story!

Sean - a clever plot with plenty of intrigue to keep you guessing, I had three or four suspects lined up but didn’t get it until the arsonist was revealed! Gorgeous arson detective Sean McBride is brooding over an unsolved serial arson investigation when he meets spirited insurance fire investigator Harper Walsh as she literally falls at his feet at an arson site. Both feel an instant attraction but circle each other a little warily while sharing their findings before realising they are kindred spirits & perfect for each other. In Harper, Sean has someone who understands both him and his job, while Harper loves the fact that Sean really listens & gets her. These two are a great match, Sean is reserved but focused & knows what he wants, Harper is smart & determined, comfortable with who she is & what she wants.
Sean painstakingly pieces together the clues to trace the arsonist but will he be in time to save Harper when her life is on the line?
A great, very enjoyable story full of suspense, heat, wonderful characters & humour provided by friends & a large, full-on family!

There are now so many characters in Hope City I want stories for, this is already a fabulous series & is only going to get better.
I received this book as an ARC & have voluntarily reviewed it, all views expressed are my own.

Welcome to Hope City, the locale of the new series by Kris Michaels and Maryann Jordan! The Kings and the McBrides lived next door to each other and their combined total of 11 children grew up together, forging life long friendships. Brock King and Sean McBride are the oldest of their siblings and best friends. These are their stories and what stories they are!

BROCK by Kris Michaels
With a high profile murder to solve the pressure is on and the last thing Detective Brock King needs is to break in a new temporary partner. But Kallie Redmond surprises him; not only do they connect on a professional level but also on a personal one. Kallie flows into his life so seamlessly as though she was always meant to be there. As they work to solve the murder a threat from Kallie’s past could end their future.

SEAN by Maryann Jordan
Arson Investigator Detective Sean McBride is working on a serial arson spree when he comes across Harper Walsh at a fire scene. When he realizes that his brusque manner and loud voice caused the insurance company investigator to fall, he struggles to make amends while escorting her to the hospital. Their next couple of interactions are complicated by misunderstandings and miscommunications but they start to find common ground in their work before the romance starts to sizzle. Then read how some glow in the dark push pins and an interest in astronomy lead to a heart stopping race with the serial arsonist who is closer to Harper than anyone realizes.

I received an ARC of this duet, my review is my own and I have, as usual, placed my preorder!

Fabulous start to this new series❣️

A Hope City is a fantastic start to a new series by Kris Michaels and Maryann Jordan. This is the first time I’ve read anything by Maryann and Kris is one of my automatic one click authors....suffice to say I’m loving this series❤️ To start us off we have Brock and Sean’s stories which overlap slightly.

Brock is called to a warehouse fire when a body gets discovered and crosses paths with Sean while he’s investigating the fire and whether or not it should be included in a string of arsons across the City😱Brock partners up with Kallie to investigate this high profile murder and they soon find themselves in a relationship while Kallie tries to forget her ex and her past. Sean while investigating his arsonist, stumbles upon Harper - a fellow fire investigator with a private insurance company and soon find their own chemistry😍

Can’t wait to read more and should not be missed🤩

Great start for a new series.......

Two amazing authors team up to bring readers a heart pounding, exciting, romantic suspense new series. Hope City series book one and two are combined into a duet. You receive two full length books for the price of one. What a great deal. What’s even better is that Kris Michaels and Maryann Jordan are two of the most read authors of romantic suspense.

We start the duet with Brock by Kris Michaels. If you’ve ever read a Kris Michaels book you know she is going to deliver an action packed, fast paced, suspensefulI romance. I absolutely loved this book. I could not put this book down. Brock and Kallie have so much chemistry from the start. I am not going to list any spoilers so you have to read their story.

Next we have Sean by Maryann Jordan. Maryann gives us another heart stopping, suspense filled romance. The instant connection between Sean and Harper was very believable. It was just there. Harper has a very likable personality. I am not going to put any spoilers in my review so I will just say that you must read this book.

Fire & Police Hope City Heros

What a beginning to a new series a duet by two of my favorite authors. Hope City Hero's the King and McBride families 11 siblings so hopefully that's a minimum of 11 books and am looking forward to everyone of them. If your a fan of Maryann and Kris you will love the 2 families and if your new to Maryann and Kris you are in for a treat. I'm not very good at writing reviews but these two writers have another hit series between them. I have one small concern I know that 99% of your readers are women but the men that love romance stories would at times would love to see a women on the cover my recommendation is maybe when the King or McBride sibling is a girl the cover should include a female just a idea to consider for your male followers. Keep up the great writing and 5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 to you both!!!

A great start to a new series. This was the first book (Brock) I have read of Kris Michaels and I am now a fan. I have read many of Maryann Jordan books and have loved them all, especially this one (Sean). Bothe of these books were full of mystery and suspense, I was very surprised at who committed the crime in both books. Brock and Sean grew up tighter as neighbors becoming best friend and like brothers. They both are cops, Brock works Homicide and Sean works in arson investigation. I loved these characters. Brock falls for Kallie and Sean falls for Harper. Both couples have great chemistry. I love that these are strong female characters that are just as smart and career oriented as the male characters. These are wonderful romance books, I can wait to read about the rest of the Kings and McBrides.

Great start to this series

BROCK
By Kris Michaels
This story is a great lead in to this new series.

The suspense aspect keeps you guessing every time you turn the page. There are so many possibilities that you really can't figure things out until they are revealed.

The romance pulls you in. Kallie and Brock are a great couple who have chemistry from their first meeting. I love the way despite Kallie has been through the wringer she is still fighting and refuses to give up. I always love the strong heroines.

The many characters introduced give plenty of future potential for this series. Kris leaves me anxious for Brody's story with the way the book ends. I can't wait to read the next installment!

SEAN
By Maryann Jordan

As with the first book in ther series this book draws you in. I love the closeness of the two families and how well these two authors have integrated the other's characters into their stories.

Sean and Harper are a great couple. I love how they are both in the fire investigation field, but from different perspectives. This book had me going back and forth on who the arsonist could be throughout the story. The connection that these two had was so natural from the beginning.

The way these two authors are writing these books keeps their work their own while paying homage to the other. It all works very well.

BROCK: This is the first book I have read written by Kris Michaels. Brock is a romantic suspense about families in Hope City. Brock and Kallie get paired up when Brock’s detective partner is transferred temporarily to the Feds. Kallie started out her career in a Texas police department, left and went to security company but wanted to get back into the police department. Hoping to leave her past in Texas and forgotten but life doesn’t work out that way for her but love does find its way to her. I loved it. Kris Michael’s writing is just the kind I love in a book.

SEAN: As always, Maryann Jordan’s writing is awesome. Sean investigates arson fires. He stumbles up Harper when he returns to do some more work after a fire. Harper works for an insurance company looking to see if a fire is accidental or arson. After a series of arson fires, they put their heads together to figure out who is the culprit. Sean realizes that Harper is the one. But when things take a tragic turn, will they be together in the end?

A great Start to a new series by two great authors!

This is going to be a great series of standalones with interactive characters from two family’s the Kings and the McBrides
Brock King is a homicide detective who gets called out on a case that turns out to be one of the wealthy. The twists in this case will have your head spinning. When Brock’s partner gets called to the FBI he gets a temporary partner Kallie, as tough as she is pretty Brock is instantly attracted. Kallie is starting new after issues with her exhusband who is now harassing her.
I loved this book, Brock and Kallie are so good together on and off the job and the case itself omg you’ll never see the ending coming.
I love the family dynamic, the two families, the Kings and McBrides, growing up together and bond that they all share!

This is going to be a great series of standalones with interactive characters from two family’s the Kings and the McBrides
Sean McBride is a detective with Special Investigations Unit Arson Division who’s been tracking a arsonist, he’s also from a big loving family growing up beside the King family and his best friend Brock.
Harper a fire investor for a insurance company is sent out to the fire Sean is investigating, their first meeting ends up with Harper in the ER.
Their story is filled with heat coming both from the arsonist and from Sean and Harper, some family involvement and a ended you’ll never see coming.
We get just enough peak of family that’ll becoming in the series that I for one can’t wait for. Maryann Jordan writes strong but sweet alpha males that Sean definitely is and heroines that are just strong enough to hold their own.

Review for Brock. Rounding up to 4 stars
I liked the story and both mc's but the H thought to himself one time too many about his past hookups, or how he would have slept with the girl even though he felt no chemistry with her... I like my guys with less mileage

This review is for Sean's book only. 3 stars I seem to be in the minority here. There was something about Sean that wasn't great to me. I needed great today. The story itself was good. I hate how the H brings the h to see his family without telling her first. That is a dik move, I wish she tore into him, he said he learned his lesson, whatever. This author has done this before, must be her thing. At any rate it was good.

This duet was thrilling with lots of suspense and intrigue, the partnership of police and firemen with lives on the line including their own, when you find one of your own has gone rough and off the deep end trying to get attention again, be the hero again, the love of family and finding your soul mate in the process, it's just meant to be, I can't wait for more of this series, Brock and Sean really great friends from childhood into adulthood, thank you Maryann Jordan for the privilege of this ARC,

A City of Hope

Brock & Kallie
Love the first instalment with the King family of Hope City. Just like we know in the Kings of Guardian series we have strong Alphas matching up with independant partners. Looking forward to broadening the scope of what Kris has in store for us.

Sean & Harper
As with all of her books Maryann has introduced the McBride family. Sean and Harper's story is so sweet but don't let that fool you, it's full of Alphas and suspense.

Can't wait for more from both Kris Michaels and Maryann Jordan.

Together they are awesome.

I was fortunate enough to receive an arc of the new series collaboration between Maryann Jordan and Kris Michaels called Hope City. This book was the stories of Brock and Sean, best friends since childhood. Both are detectives with the Hope City police dept. BROCK is in homicide and Sean in arson investigations. They lived next door to each other growing up, with 6 siblings in one family and 5 siblings in the other. BROCK KING, cousin of the Kings of Guardian, lands a case involving a prominent citizen being murdered. He needs to solve the case with his new temporary partner Kallie Redmond, who has transplanted from Houston. The sparks fly, the mystery deepens and the suspense builds. AWESOME READ!!!! SEAN MCBRIDE is investigating an arsonist who is burning random buildings. He meets Harper who is an insurance arson investigator. They collaborate to find the serial arsonist and are drawn to each other. The main characters intersect in each story and each are so seamless it's like reading one great novel!!!! I love both these authors and give it 5 stars!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤

Smokin' hot!

I cannot wait for more in this series...this duet is fantastic! Best friends who both work for the Hope City Police Force but in different departments find themselves working the same arson/murder case.
Both the eldest of multiple kids they are serious, driven, Alphas but both meet their matches and are brought to their knees by sassy, smart women. Sparks? Hell, more like a raging inferno! Lots of fireworks, crazy sibling antics, sexy dirty talk, interfering parents, steamy sex and investigation work, with a few twists thrown in for good measure. I loved both these couples, their chemistry was believable but the intertwining plots were better. I am hoping this series is focussing fully on the 11 siblings from the King and McBride family's as the family dynamics and sibling banter create the perfect support cast and base.
Well done ladies you have another hit here!

Book 1 Brock by Kris Michaels
Homicide detectives Brock King and Kallie Redman

Homicide detective Brock King is about to get the case of a lifetime. A high profile case that will put the entire police force under a microscope including his father, the commissioner. To top that all off, his long-time partner has been on loan to the FBI and he is called back to the FBI not long after the case begins. His father has a partner in mind, one that came highly recommended as she worked for his cousin Jade (King) Demarco. Brock doesn't want a new partner especially with a high profile case such as this.

Homicide detective Kallie Redman has spent the last five years trying to get her life back after her ex-husband messed up his career and subsequently hers. She had to flee the good old boys club down in Texas before it killed her, literally. She left Guardian Security to go back to her roots as a homicide detective, she missed being on the streets and solving cases. She is partnered with Brock and they get along really well especially when they discover a mutual caffeine addiction and a mutual attraction. Oh and this murder case needs to be solved with the Governor breathing down their necks and the victim's murdered family breathing down his neck to get the case solved.

Ms. Michaels kept me guessing as to who the murderer was. She had my attention from the beginning of the story. I couldn't put it down. I got sucked into the pages as if I was right there in Hope City trying to solve the murder right along with Detectives King and Redman. Kallie and Brock are perfect for each other as they both play things by the book and they are both addicted to caffeine. Kallie is strong, tall and intelligent and she will not let her ex-husband continue to ruin her life, although he tries. Brock is the oldest in his family and he is a protector, he wants to protect Kallie but he also realizes that she can take care of herself. I cannot wait to see what adventures she has in store for Brock's 5 siblings.

Book 2, Sean by Maryann Jordan

Sean McBride is an arson detective in Hope City and when he is called to a suspicious fire in the middle of the night, it's never a good thing. Could it be the work of the serial arsonist he and his partner has been trying to catch for a while now. He meets his best friend homicide detective Brock King there as a dead body has been found. This story overlaps Ms. Michaels story a bit in this way but then the story continues on a different path as both Brock and Sean try to solve their respective cases. Sean has to go back to the scene of the arson and while there he spots a woman collecting evidence. A mishap ensues and the woman at the scene, Harper Walsh, breaks her wrist. She finds herself in pain and looking into the eyes of one grumpy but handsome arson detective determined to take her to the hospital. Not exactly a great first meeting!

Harper works for an insurance company and she collects evidence at the scenes of fires. She is very smart and she knows her stuff. She works with a private lab and stumbles across information that helps Sean in his investigation. Soon they are sharing information and discovering that they are combustible together. Things heat up and the arsonist is closer than anyone knows.

Ms. Jordan kept me guessing until the end who the serial arsonist was. There were definitely some characters in this story who could have been the arsonist. I was glued to the story and I had to find out who this arsonist was. It was fascinating to hear the science part of starting fires. I learned a few things about chemistry and learning something new is always a plus for me.

Sean McBride comes from a family of 5 children and he is the oldest. He does come off as grumpy at first but with a schedule like his, it's understandable. Kallie is eager to learn and she has had first-hand experience with what a fire can do. Kallie cares about the people she is helping, she goes beyond what is required of her to give families or business owners some peace. She and Sean are great together and Sean isn't as grumpy as he appears to be. I look forward to reading more about the McBride family.

Kudos to both Ms. Michaels and Ms. Jordan for their first joint venture. Their stories overlap and are seamlessly written. The two families grew up together and when they show up in the stories it's natural and not forced. The two authors worked hard to make this happen especially because the first two stories were told together in one book. The authors also set up their next books in these stories and left me with a yearning for more stories.

Brock by Kris Michaels

As this series opens we will meet many people with roles in future books. Brock King is a homicide detective and is called to the scene of a fire that is suspected to be arson. The body discovered didn't die from the fire, he was already dead, his wallet nearby and though devoid of cash and credit cards contained his driver's license.

The victim, identified as one Samuel Treyson. His family owns half the city, ensuring a media circus that would involve both the homicide and the arson. While Sean McBride the arson investigator calls his Captain, Brock calls his Lieutenant, then his father, Chauncey King, the police commissioner. While the brass head off the media, both Brock and Sean finish collecting evidence to go to the lab. Neither one of them happy with the pressure that was sure to be put on this case.

Brock's partner, Jordan Wyatt had been working vice when the call came in, now he's with Brock to follow some leads until the feds decide to pull him into a different mess of a case. They had just begun tracking Samuel's day by receipts found in his wallet when that call came. Now Brock would be getting a new partner for the duration. He'd been assured his new partner would be a good fit but that remained to be seen.

I like the way we're introduced to this partner. Not at the station but at the diner across the street. It's a peek at the thoughts flowing through Kallie Redmond's mind prior to reporting for duty. It also gave a glimpse her past prior to moving to Hope City.

Brock says goodbye to Jordan and assures him he will take care of his cat Fester, and check on his apartment and car while he's working with the Feds. Then heads inside to meet his new partner.

There are many ups and downs in this investigation, Kallie is sharp and as they work together they also find an attraction. It's a good thing they wouldn't be permanent partners and that their isn't a policy in place to prevent them from seeing each other outside of work.

We meet the King family in this one, since it's all about the police investigation and their family is mostly police. I anticipate seeing all these folks in future books of the series.

This is an edge of your seat tale and just when things are wrapping up, the past looms up to bite Kallie. Lots of action, suspense, a simmer to sizzle romance and a whole lot more!

I'm just going to keep reading now with 'Sean'. I like that the first two books are together in one.

Sean by Maryann Jordan

In this book we go back to the fire scene we saw in 'Brock'. Detective Sean McBride is with the Arson Division. Hope City is one of few places fortunate to have that special unit of detectives. Especially now with a serial arsonist on the loose. This warehouse fire was different though. We get a bit of a replay as Brock, Sean's best friend arrives at the scene before we settle into the Arson investigation.

After the initial evidence collection the lab requests some additional samples in different containers. When Sean gets to the site he's stunned and angry to see a woman there.

Harper is the fire investigator for the insurance company, just like Sean she needs to collect evidence. She brings it to an independent lab for analysis and adds those results to her findings for or against policy payout.

Sean yelled at her causing her to startle and fall injuring herself. He immediately offers assistance and insists on accompanying her to the hospital to be checked out.

Not exactly the best way to meet someone, but one that quickly spread to colleagues and friends providing a never ending source of amusement.

With the results in on the warehouse proving it wasn't their serial arsonist, Sean and Jonas get back to work sifting through possible suspects.

Harper and Sean have an attraction that only grows as they continue to cross paths in there investigating. As much as he may try to avoid it, Sean can't help but admire Harper's tenacity and investigative instincts.

In spite of or perhaps because of the intensity of the investigation, Sean falls in deeper and deeper with Harper. Their attraction sparks into flame as things heat up with the arsonist. Yes, pun intended.

I enjoyed this book immensely and since I've already read and reviewed 'Carter', I have to wait for the release of 'Brody' later this month.

A Hope City Duet actual 2 full books that are the beginning of a series of books by two awesome authors, Kris Michaels and Maryann Jordan. The tie-in is the two families who grew up together - the Kings (who you’ll love and are cousins to the Kings of Guardian Security who fans of Ms. Michaels know and adore) and the McBrides (who you’ll quickly come to love also) - who have 11, yes ELEVEN, kinds between them.

BROCK by Kris Michaels - Brock King is a hot, smart & sexy homicide detective with the Hope City PD. He gets called out to what turns out to be a very high profile case. His partner gets tagged by the FBI to help with a case, so Brock gets a temp partner who is new with HCPD, is smart, sexy and has an ex that is harassing her and she has an interesting background. They have to work together to find the killer and figure out their attraction. There are plenty of twists and turns and family interaction. Kris Michaels is amazing at this kind of book - there are so many twists and turns, and you just know you’ve figured it out, but did you? Ms. Michaels is a master. It’s an awesome book and I can’t wait for her next installment.

SEAN by Maryann Jordan - Sean McBride is quiet, hot and smart, he ask a detective with the HCPD working arson cases. He runs into his best friend of 30 yrs at a fire scene with a dead body, but the case takes them in different directions. The db isn’t from the fire (so Brock follows that since he’s Homicide), and Sean takes the fire. But it’s not his serial arsonist, and that’s his major case right now. However going back to check a crime scene he comes across Harper Walsh, an insurance agency fire inspector, and inadvertently startled her, causing her to break her arm. This starts a chain of events that causes them to spend more time together and discuss the case and follow up on their attraction. Maryann Jordan is fabulous at writing in a way that gives clues and breadcrumbs, but keeps the answer just out of your reach. It’s such a great book and I can’t wait for the next McBride Hope City Book!

The thing with this Michaels-Jordan Hope City World is that the way they write it, the characters cross into each book, the cases cross over, and it is seamless. It’s definitely a world you want to be in, you’ll love it. And who knows maybe some other names you might recognize from their other worlds might come up, who knows with these two amazing ladies...

Take an exciting trip to Hope City

These two authors have come together to bring readers a whole new world to enjoy. The stories of Brock by Kris Michaels and Sean by Maryann Jordan are separate but brilliantly interconnected to each other. This is an explosive start to our journey to Hope City.

Brock

He is a strong, intelligent and driven police detective. There is a fire and a body is found so Brock is on the investigation. His partner is pulled to another case so he is temporarily assigned Kallie, a new detective to HCPD. Their chemistry is off the charts and their resolve to solve the case leads them on a journey that changes their lives. We meet his family and friends as this starts our Hope City adventures. This story is an exciting read and leaves you wanting more.

Sean

His beginning is the fire the had a murder victim. Sean is knowledgeable, strong willed and determined Arson Detective. While the stories do cross each other, Sean is investigating a serial arsonist. He comes across Harper who works for the insurance company and ends up taking her to the ER for her wrist injury. These two people have chemistry and do decide to explore their attraction. Harper shares information on his investigation that gives them a breakthrough. Lots of mystery and discovery for this incredible couple.

These two stories are a great start for this series. It’s a whole new world and I am looking forward to this journey!

A fantastic duet!!

I have to be honest I wasn't sure how this duet book idea would work but I am a fan of both authors so I decided let's give it a chance. So glad I did! This is a very cool idea and works seamless between the 2 authors. I love the start of a new series, learning who's who and making connections. This will be doubly fun as you have 2 authors but characters crossing over.

Brock is the first book in the duet. Brock started a bit slow but once it got going I could not put it down! Brock and Kallie are 5 alarm fire hot!!!!! The story was so good and definitely kept you on the edge of your seat wondering who did it! Brock is homicide detective so this story was centered around the murder. It was riveting and keeps you interested.

Sean was the 2nd book. He is an arson investigator so this book centers around the arson aspect . It was very intense and well written. He also started out a little slow in trying to develop a relationship with Harper, but once they got started they they were so good together. I was really surprised to discover the villain in this one! I really loved it. I love the details Mary Ann always had in her books. She does a lot of research and It shows. The characters are great and relatable. I loved both of the heroines in this duet, strong and smart!

It is going to be fun reading this series by 2 fantastic authors I enjoy! Hope you love it as much as I did!

A Hope City Duet

Brock
WOW! This is a fast paced story. This is about Brock King and Kallie. Brock has a very high profile case to solve and his partner, Jordan, is called away on another case. In walks Kallie, who will be Brock's temporary partner. As we get closer to finding out who killed the billionaire, these two start falling in love. In the end, it is surprising to find out who actually killed the billionaire - his wife's lawyer. While in the process of getting their man, Brock is shot. He recovers with the help of his family and Kallie. These two work on their happily ever after. FANTASTIC job Kris! I would recommend this book.

Sean
This story is about Sean McBride and Harper. This story is about a serial arsonist. It is intriguing to read how the arsonist investigators work on getting their criminal. It was interesting to see that the serial arsonist considered themselves as a phoenix. It was so heartbreaking to find out who the arsonist was - Harper's neighbor and friend. It was sad that he felt that he felt like he had to silence Harper. He set her apartment on fire with her in it. Sean's brother rescued Harper. It's unfortunate that Harper's neighbor killed himself. Now that Sean and his partner solved that case, Sean and Harper started working on their happily ever. FANTASTIC job Maryann! I would recommend this book!

Two great books in one

Two great books in one. Even though the books can be enjoyed as stand alone books both authors are great a intertwining their characters. Though I know Kris Michaels' Kings of Guardian characters better this is a great start to the spin off series.

Brock. Not just the poor cousins of the high flying Guardian King, Brock found his calling as a dectictive. Poor psy, long hours, constant pressure, thank less work and no one outside his bouble to share it with. He accepts and lives for it. Of course he has an equal. Coming to Hope City for a second chance Kallie hope to get her career back on track after breaking the code of silence. Most times opposites attract but rarely two like minded people are just a compatible and steel sharpens steel making each stronger.

Sean. Methodical, responsible, and all round good guy Sean makes a terrible first impression on Harper. The rest is history. That is 9nly half the story of the book. This book is a great mystery investigation with a number of suspects that kept me guessing.

Both books lead on to other members of the King and McBride family. Good setup for the next book and I will not be at all surprised to see returning and recurring characters supporting and developing this series.

Mystery, suspense and sexy intelligent people

These book kept my brain ticking over trying to distinguish clues and solve the mysteries in both books.

Brock

Brock King was what you expect from an overworked detective working a high profiled case with no lead, little sleep and not enough coffee.....grumpy. Kallie comes along like a breathe of fresh air. She is intelligent, beautiful and a damn good detective just want Brock needs in his life.
Kallie and Brocks relationship progressed a little quicker than I anticipated which made the story alittle less realistic for me however did not devalue the amazing writing and plot.

Sean

Maryann was new to me so I wasn't entirely sure what to expect from her writing however if I'm honest I actually enjoyed Sean's story more than Brocks. Both had strong male characters who were read for something real..... Enter hot intelligent woman stage left. Kallie and Harper these women were fun, sassy and good at there job. Sean and Harpers story moved at a great pace, the relationship developed with common interests and attraction. A very realistic plot following arson, insurance and investigators.

I thoroughly enjoyed this glimpse into Hope City and cant wait for Carter's book.

As a new reader of Kris Michaels, it took me a bit to get into the book. The beginning reminded me of one of the few tv series I have watched. I shelved the book for later. I now regret that. Once I got past the first few pages, I was intrigued. By the time I was on the third chapter, I was a goner! I didn’t come up for air until I turned the page and figured out that I had reached the end of Brock, and Sean was next.

Brock and Kallie were a great couple. They worked well together and I loved the characters that I met in the book. Obviously, Kris Michaels is a new author that I’m going to enjoy binging on.

Next came Sean. I’m already a huge Maryann Jordon fan. This book did not fail me! The characters, Sean and Harper were fantastic together and I loved watching their ideas about the serial arsonist come into being. I was completely shocked at the conclusion. All of the possible suspects in my mind were swirling and I couldn’t wait to find out which of my suspects were guilty! Wow was I shocked! I love when a story flows as perfectly as this one did!

I am giving 5 stars to each book, so does mean they earned 10 stars? I hope so! They deserve it! Can’t wait for the remaining characters’ stories!
