I don’t know how long I’ve been in this darkness. I don’t know how long I’ve been seeing with eyes that can’t open, speaking from a throat incapable of making sounds. All I have are my thoughts and how weary I’ve grown with nothing else to listen to. Perhaps I am nothing more than a state of mind.
I want to die.
Understanding is slow to arrive but when it does, nothing will ever be the same again. Now, with a form that moves, I uncover the meaning of my existence and the purpose for my extended solitude.
I’m an omega.
A rare breeding mare for the likes of alphas. With the decrease in fertility rates in able omegas, less pups means a crippled society overrun with beta's. Omega's, now born sickly and broken, are found wanting in a population steeply dying out. I’m just the beginning of change and by no means the last. Created, not born, I’m slave to the will of my makers … and my mates.
Will I survive or be torn apart by five hungry alphas?
**This reverse harem, omegaverse novel is not for the faint of heart. Creature of the Dark contains graphic sexual content and dark situations that may not be suitable for everyone. Be advised, this is a #whychoose story as the main character ends up with more than one mate at the end of the series. This book ends in a cliffhanger.
Ivy Chapman has always been irresistibly drawn to the damned. Recently, she discovered a not so secret passion for the dark and depraved reads. Ivy has entirely too much fun delving deep into the twisted and corrupt. Though she does occasionally surface long enough to publish her next unhappily ever after.
This is a dark Omegaverse with 1 Omega 5 Alphas to flourish their species which has decreased in number.
The book is barely understandable at the beginning. The world build is vague and the heroine is kept in dark for most of the book. The Alphas are also not properly introduced. The book is said from a single POV. The world is on extinction and one single lab created Omega came out perfect for the Alphas. The interactions with the Alphas are necessary for an introduction. There are grammatical mistakes but with a revision the book can stand out.
Ha! I know what I'm not doing and that's reading the second book.
The author did warn that the book was not for the faint of heart, I scoffed at that because I dont know what "faint of heart" means.
This book though was not it. I have read darker books. There's a lot I didn't like. May is a genetically engineered omega made for the purpose of breeding. There is no introduction of us to May before shes being used all the time. This woman just went through her Awakening, she doesn't know anything but yet they are breeding her without any regard.
I know nothing about the Alphas, they were all jerks IMO. I never thought I'd miss the stereotypical RH heros but I did. They were all jackasses.
This is the first book of this series, and it was definitely dark. Poor May is alone, and doesn't understand where she is or who she is. Then along comes two Alpha's and she tries desperately to defend her nest. Creature of the Dark was so well written and kept me very engaged to the end. This series is highly recommended if you love the Omega and Alpha universe.
Received Updated ARC from BookSprout for Honest Review. *Please note I have read this book previously, this is a newly updated version with extra chapters, so my previous review is gone.
My Previous Rating for This Book: 3/5 My Current Rating for this Book: I Give it a solid 4.5/5, Listing as 5.
This is Omegaverse, if you don’t know what it is, please take the time to look it up before you judge this book. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea but it’s DEFINITELY Mine. *Grins*
This is a Dark Post Apocalyptic Omegaverse.
I Don’t Want to Give Spoilers.
Cliffhanger(?): Absolutely! I can’t wait to read the next book, man..that ending made me rereading the last few pages over again just to see I was reading what I read was correct! Lol Was not expecting THAT at all.
Dark: The Overtone if the Story is Dark: 4/5. But I personally will rate it a as a 3/5, but be warned I have ZERO triggers, so this book may be darker for others. :) Romance(?): Currently? No, which fits correctly but there is affection and I love the flow and that love isn’t ‘immediate’. Heat: 5/5 Loved It!! Suspense & Drama: 5/5 I’m definitely at the edge of my seat, I literally have no idea what is going to happen next! Relationship Type: Reverse Harem.
This is a very memorable Book to me, I can guarantee I’ll never forget it. Every Dark & Twisted Omegaverse I read, this one is always lingering in the shadows of my mind, cause I always compare other books to this one. I love the concept of this book..plain and simple it’s just EVERYTHING I want in an Omegaverse book. The Alpha’s act correctly & May.. the sweet adorable Omega acts just like an Omega should. The ‘Nesting’ to me is such a critical part in any Omegaverse. I’m glad it’s up front here and not just labeled as a minor OCD issue or just not mentioned at all.
How the Book Starts and Ends.. I’m Obsessed with it cause I couldn’t stop reading. I found it that addictive(!), I had to keep flipping the page to see what was going to happen next then I came to the cliffhanger and about lost it cause I couldn’t continue on Lol
There is so much I want to saw but I just Can’t(!) well...Won’t. Lol
This novel was fairly cleanly written, without enough typos or wrong word choices to cause an inability to enjoy the story. The characterization of this novel was well done, with a heroine especially being a vibrant individual. The world building and plot of this story was somewhat unclear and confusing for me to figure out, so I would say that the overall plot was poorly done. The spicy scenes were quite enjoyable and well done, and the five heroes of this romance were quite heroic and their characterization was quite well done. I was initially hesitant to read this novel because of the content warning at the beginning that it was quite a dark, disturbing romance. However, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that that was not the case, at least for me. The heroes of this novel would make this novel ineligible as a dark romance, in my opinion, because these heroes did not do double duty as the villains of the novel, which to my understanding is the definition of a dark romance. I would categorize this novel to be dystopian romance instead, with the scientists filling the role of villain. This installment ends on a cliffhanger, but thankfully this series is a duology with both novels being available, so readers who despise cliffhangers can check out or buy both books and read them immediately one after the other.

One omega for five alpha's to share. I don’t know how long I’ve been in this darkness. This is a brilliant read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believeable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story. Can't wait to read more of these. Recommend reading.

2.5/5. I don't know. I think it's not for me because I'm not sure I like the heroin and her mates.
It's quite well written though, like there isn't many spoken dialogues but it's not boring.
MILD SPOILERS AHEAD
Well, in this book, it seems omegas are only breeders and nothing more.
I very much dislike how May is kind of an object, a thing and that her only purpose is to please her mates and birth pups. I mean... That's it? I know, a lot of A/B/O romances are based on this but in this case, it kinda bothers me.
She's always lived alone, without real care, almost starving and freezing, and then she's forced to mate with 5 guys who are making her follow rules she has no idea about. And when she "disobey", she's disciplined through an almost rape. Her mates are basically heartless jerks who don't take her opinion and wants into consideration. They feed her information she's not ready to hear, she's thrown into the world without transition and they're not sensitive about that. If they don't change, they're not mate material.
The only one worth it is Zerk and he doesn't protect her when she needs it.
So yeah, the love story, if you call it love, is cringy.
I'm still intrigued like, will her mates revolt against the lab who mistreated her? Will they care for her like lovers should?
Calling this “Dark Romance” is a heavy misnomer. This is a horror novella where a lab-created 10 year old (MAYBE 10, we never get an exact age on our FMC, she could be younger for all we know) in the body of an adult woman is forcefully bred and mated with 5 evil bastards. It’s written off as ‘Dub-Con’ because “oh her instincts make her want to do this” but every time she’s even semi-lucid she seems outraged and desperate to be out of this situation.
And if you think “well I mean yeah technically she was only created 10 years ago but she’s an adult! she knows adult things!” WRONG BUCKO. She can’t speak, she knows little to nothing of the outside world, she has never even SEEN another person in her entire life, and we’re just supposed to root for her and her VILE mates anyways?
I had such an awful time reading this and the only reason i finished both this and the 2nd book is because they are so short and I honestly just wanted to get my book count up for the reading challenge. And the only way I got through it is to see this duet as a horror novel. NOT a romance one. “Dark Romance” my ass 😭.
*Spoiler* This is a story of an omega that was created and not born, raised in the darkness of a den until claimed by her mates. Initially, I was wary that the first person perspective by the heroine during the first half of the book would be boring. However, I was hooked from the first page. The author's writing style and her way of narrating was unique and impressive. I didn't get bored for one second. I found the story very interesting as well as the heroine. I believe that the reader needs to read the 2nd book to form a better impression about her mates. However, this book left me with some questions as to why did her creators keep her in a frozen den and almost starved? Shouldn't she be raised as comfortable as possible, or at least warm? And why they took only the first embryo and not the second as well? This book (along with the 2nd part) is my favourite from Chapman until now, although, the book needed better editing, as there were many typos and spelling errors.

I rated it 3⭐ because I really don't know what to think about this book😟 Don't expect a classic omegaverse because it's completely different! It's dark, there are dubcon (even noncon) sex and claim, assh*le guys who lack totally of feelings and emotion, and a feral lab experiment omega.
This books could be considered as a dystopia as the story takes place in the 4000s😱 The atmosphere is heavy, there isn't many happy moment for the FMC, May. She's just used and controlled by the guys and the society. There isn't any tenderness or connection between them and they just show her they care by f*cking her...🙄I just felt sad for her from the beginning til the end.
There are a lot of ethical questioning in this book about experiment, breeding, etc. and it made me feel very uncomfortable. Will I read the next one? I think so but I don't know why I will read it (maybe because I just want May to be happy but it seems complicated😢), and I'm not sure to finish the book...pretty doubtful...
I got lured in by the beautiful cover but it definitely didn't live up to it. Was there even a plot among the badly written smut? A plot kind of appears towards the end and I downloaded both books at once so I'll see if the second one improves at all. I think my main gripe is that May has no personality and is all instinct which I guess makes sense given her creation but it doesn't give the readers a reason to care about her at all either.
Spoilery Summary: A girl is captive in a cave, she has an estrous, two alphas are introduced into her cavern, they mate, they bond her, three more males come in and mate her. She wakes up again in an apartment and all five males explain to her that she was created from previous omega remnants because alphas and omegas are dying out and she's the only one who can birth them now and then the story ends on that cliffhanger.
Definitely not what I thought it'd be yet it's everything I wanted it to be as well! The mysteriousness of this first book though, keep everything in suspense. You really didn't know where it was going and that made the anticipation for what eventually happen so much more explosive when it did happen. I love that the Omega really did just rely on her instincts. It showed her to be a real bad ass Omega who would do what's needed to protect herself and those that she deems are hers.
Not much is explained about the Alphas. They remain mysterious. Although, it does look like there is a pecking order and somehow that order has been briefly disrupted which can be a bad thing according to the Omega. Can't wait to read the next book to see what happens!
Dark and Intense “Creature of the Dark” is an original Omegaverse tale. It is well thought out with such a dark theme that you feel May’s confusion, loneliness and heartache as the tale is told from her POV and you feel as if you are with her in the cave and her nest, as the reader has as many questions as May does. You begin to feel the self-awareness even as May does when the Alphas are introduced into her small world. This is an interesting and entertaining tale that moves at a slow-pace as it should. The storyline is very dark and deep, the scenes are vivid and authentic, the characters are intense and amazing. This tale is a great beginning to a new series and I can’t wait to see what happens next. I received a free copy of this book. This review was posted voluntarily
Imagine growing up without contact with another being, not knowing what you are, who you are, where you are, or even why you are? That's May's world until two Alphas, Lorcan and Ryker come crashing into her world, matching and bonding with her. If that's not difficult enough for her to absorb, three more, Clay, Vale, and Zerk make their claims as well. How does she comprehend this now reality, what do they want or expect from her. D.E. Chapman does an outstanding job creating this world. This book is a page turner from start to finish and and book 2 is even better. Outstanding read! I received a copy from Booksprout and this is my honest review.
Ill be honest im struggling to work out if i like this book or not? I dont hate it but my problem is that at least 3/4 of this book is set in a dungeon with only omega May (FMC) in it until Ryker & Lorcan turn up. Then theres no conversation between them just plenty of sex (which you only find out why when the book us nearly finished) more sex happens when three more men turn up. To me there was no connection with May and the guys which was a shame and im hoping that changes in the follow up books. An okay read though
Unlike the other Alpha/Omega books I read, there seems to be a base and instinctual quality to to the description from May, the Omega. I liked how descriptive Chapman is in setting the stage up in that world. I also enjoyed the reverse harem elements in the book. I did wish that the book was a bit longer though so I can really get a feel for each of the alpha. This book starts off with an omega coming into the existence that she knows. She is slowly introduced to her surroundings and the 5 alphas. Book ends in a cliffhanger.
This would have to be one of the strangest omegaverse books I’ve read to date, I’m really curious as to how this will progress. 5 alphas and a made omega who has memories but hasn’t really lived. This is a totally new concept that keeps me turning the page to discover more. It’s a world that is totally different to the world building of other books. If you want a story that keeps your mind turning this is it. Would recommend to anyone who likes a bit of a challenge when reading. Now I’m off to read the 2nd book from D.E. Chapmans Broken Things Series.
I cant imagine how hard this must have been to write when you've always had all of your senses and have never lived like she does. I felt the loneliness and loss of security and grieved the loss of the known. Such a great filthy naughty book. If you have triggers then please move on, we dont wanna see your one-star negative-Sally review. Attention omegaverse lovers! Ya'all gotta read this book, you will not be disappointed.
A very different approach with our female character in this omegaverse. She becomes aware in the dark, a creation of darkness and the unknown. Slowly introduced to food and others, strange males with scents that call to her. She is bred and marked, bound and introduced to her Alphas. Speech and understanding comes slowly but known. This is just a small taste of this book and whilst short it packs a lot in.

Great start to a new series. I would say this is in the omegaverse realm…she can’t see and can barely talk not even sure of her existence in this dark cave until her alphas come for her. She learns the truth about what is happening in their world and as unsure if she will survive or wants to. This is a fast-paced read with lots of drama, twists and turns. The scenes with her alphas are hot and I look forward to more in the series. I liked it.
—>>> Aptly titled, May’s slow emergence into the next stage of her life’s purpose is well described and delivered. May is feral in her extreme isolation until the steel door to the outer world open up and brings the scent of alpha male into her cave and nest. Intriguing premise to this story. Looking forward to reading more of this author’s omegaverse world!
Waking with no real memories, May has to slowly piece her world together. Then her world is invaded by two males who take over then take her to a strange place. Next she awakes to find not only those two men in her cave but three more alphas that take over. The next thing she knows she awakes to a new home and they are explaining things she’s not ready to hear. Interesting story

She had no idea what she was. She soon learns she was made not born to be a breeding mare to five alphas for a race dying out. They have had sickly children and they need some strong blood to save them all. Will she be what they want? How much of herself will she lose? Can she help save their race? Follow her as she obeys their will

This is a new take on the omegaverse worlds I have read. I like the concept and am looking forward to reading more. I did feel this story was a bit short and I want to know more about the alphas and world that has been created. I felt there could have been more detail in what was presented. It ends on a cliffhanger so be aware.
Oomph! Dark and depraved but oh so irresistible intriguing, drawn to the next page - a very interesting and intense story. Emotional and instinctively with a natural flow.
Well written from a single POV so the reader experience the development and backgrounds of the being of May by itself. Greatest!
A new author to me and I hope there is more to come.
This is a dark omegaverse story that has a very intriguing storyline. I had a hard time getting into the story at first but once I actually got into it, I really enjoyed it. The cliffhanger absolutely make me want more from this series. If you like dark omegaverses you will definitely enjoy this one.

This is part one and it’s brilliant. It’s only a quick read but a wonderful read that makes the book seem even smaller as it’s a page-turner. The author has made a wonderful world and populated it with wonderful characters.
