Now any man who wants to claim the hand of the intrepid reporter had better have a safe job. Like attorney Evan Covington. Amelia is thrilled when the handsome lawyer comes courting. But when the town enlists him as a Texas Ranger, Amelia isn't sure she can handle losing another man to the perils of keeping the peace.
Evan never expected his temporary appointment to sink his relationship with Amelia. Or to instantly plunge them headlong into danger. But when Amelia and his sister are both kidnapped, the newly minted lawman must rescue them—if he's to have any chance at love.
Ranger to the Rescue is a nice follow-up to the characters we first met in Lone Star Ranger – particularly if you wanted to spend more time with Evan and Amelia.
Amelia is a spitfire of a heroine – the epitome of ‘though she be but little she is fierce’. Her dogged pursuit of a front page story at first can seem to be at war with her softer side. In actuality, though, they both fit together beautifully in a personality that is unique to Amelia and enables her to fight when needed and cry when needed. Her loyalty to those she loves is one of the reasons I enjoy her character – and her wit is another.
Evan has been through a lot, poor guy. Accused in Lone Star Ranger of being a notorious outlaw and nearly hanged for it, he’s finally settling in to his new law office in Houston and to his friendship with Amelia. All the while he remains close to his newlywed sister Elizabeth – who is a typical little sister to her big brother, especially when it comes to his love life. I enjoyed watching the sibling aspect to their relationship, reminding me of my own friendship with my brother. (And can I just say that I love Elizabeth’s strength when it counts?)
The story starts out at a fairly gentle pace, but it ramps up at the halfway mark and draws on every bit of strength that Amelia, Evan, and Elizabeth have between them to survive. I loved watching each one really come into their own. We’ve seen Elizabeth’s inner survival skills already in book 1 but we really get to see Evan and Amelia shine in this book. Their progression from good friends to falling in love was also sweet to watch – and provided a few chuckles along the way too. However, I would have liked at least one kiss between them and felt a bit cheated that we didn’t get one.
Bottom Line: Ranger to the Rescue is a sweet story with engaging characters and some harrowing moments that may have you forgetting to breathe. Not from the romance, which is very gentle, but the danger they find themselves in. Readers of Lone Star Ranger will enjoy the chance to get reacquainted with these characters, and while book 2 can be read as a stand-alone it’s probably best to read them in order to avoid any lingering confusion. A relatively short, quick read, it’s a nice choice when you want something light and smile-inducing.

This was a very entertaining book. I really enjoyed it. The characters were likable and I really enjoyed getting to know them more. The plot was interesting and it held my interest. I felt like there were a few places where the book fell a little flat, but overall it was a great read!
I liked Evan and Amelia. I felt like their characters were perfect for this book and they fit well together. I did feel like Amelia was a little overdramatic at certain times, but I understand why she did and felt like she did. I really loved Elizabeth's character. I almost feel like reading book 1 just so I can read more about her.
I highly enjoyed the plot. I felt it was well-paced and it definitely hooked me. Overall, I enjoyed this book and I may end up reading some of Ms. Green's books in the future!
*I volunteered to read this book from the author/publisher in exchange for my honest review. I was not required to write a positive review. All thoughts are my own.*
What I think you should know: Ranger to the Rescue is the second book in The Texas Rangers series by Renae Brumbaugh Green. This book can be a standalone, however it does contain many of the same characters as the first book and will give you spoilers if you have not read the first book in the series. It is a historical fiction set in Houston, Texas 1881.
What you might need to know: Amelia lost her fiance in the line of duty prior to this book.
What I think about this book: For me this was a quick read, it checks tons of boxes: historical fiction, spunky female lead, strong male lead and characters who are stubborn but drawn to each other. I will admit I have been a sucker for anything Texas Ranger since I was a little girl watching Walker. This was a fun story for me to read. Amelia is ahead of her time and determined, Evan is just as determined to be a good lawyer and find the truth for his clients. I enjoyed the interaction between these two. Green did a good job of keeping the book moving and interesting while also allowing the story to progress naturally. I look forward to the next book in the series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Celebrate Lit, this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.
This is the first book that I have read by Renae and I will be reading more of her books! Once I started reading it, I didn't want to stop. Was a nice clean romance with a little bit of mystery/adventure to it.
I enjoyed this book tremendously! The characters were well developed and completely believable, especially in the situations they found themselves in! Evan was a lawyer in Houston, building up his new law practice. Amelia is a reporter for the daily newspaper who writes the "society column" but wants to write front page news. Women just didn't do that in those days though. She and Even are attracted to each other but feel they need to focus on their jobs, until they decide that they really can't live without each other so begin to court. However, Amelia will NOT be with another lawman because her former fiancé died who was a lawman! Thankfully, Evan will never do that....until he's appointed to be a temporary Texas Ranger! And wouldn't you know, Amelia and Evan's sister get kidnapped! That whole experience was very interesting and fun to read. Lots of danger.. let's just say alligators and snakes and very mean criminals! You definitely need to read this book!
I enjoyed Ranger to the Rescue very much. Amelia is a newspaper reporter determined to get her story. Evan becomes an temporary ranger. Amelia gets kidnapped, will Evan be able to save her?
I enjoyed the characters in this book. Amelia didn’t want to be involved with a ranger because of the danger. Amelia puts herself in danger though. Amelia was such an enjoyable character.
I love reading historical books and this was a good one.
I received a complimentary copy of the book from Celebrate Lit. This book review is my own opinion.
Book two in The Texas Ranger series, Renae Brumbaugh Green’s “Ranger to the Rescue” is a sweet, short read that contains a sufficient element of danger without being too daunting. Because the story opens on the heels of “Lone Star Ranger”, this series is best read in order, but it is not required. In this sequel, Evan Covington is establishing his law practice when he ends up reluctantly working with reporter Amelia Cooper on a case. Their friendship develops into affection, but all hope seems lost when Evan unexpectedly becomes sworn in as a Texas Ranger. As is still the case today, working in law enforcement is a dangerous business, and not every woman is cut out to be or wants to be a lawman’s wife.
“Ranger to the Rescue” is an enjoyable Western tale that makes for a light romantic read. Overall, I liked the story, and I appreciated Amelia’s character the most. She is an intelligent woman making her way in a predominantly male profession, and she is not afraid to take risks in order to get the story because “[s]omehow, she’d thought being a writer was a gentle profession, and she’d fight her battles with a pencil and notepad.” This fortitude, however, does not extend to relationships with men in law enforcement, for personal reasons stemming from her past. She acknowledges early on that “God really was a God of second chances”, and this fact proves ever more true as the plot progresses. I love that Green incorporates sign language into the story, providing a unique element. There are quite a few tropes used in this story, which make it predictable but pleasant nonetheless. One thing that bothered me was the occasional use of modern phrasing by the narrator, which disrupted the flow for me. All in all, however, I recommend “Ranger to the Rescue” to historical fiction readers who enjoy drama and who may be looking to overcome fears of their own. As Amelia learns, “when God offers abundant grace, He also requires abundant faith. From those who claim to be His, He demands a dangerous, rugged devotion. But with that kind of reckless faith come God’s bountiful blessings.”
I received a complimentary copy of this book through Celebrate Lit and was not required to post a favorable review. All opinions are my own.
Although I was not familiar with its author, Ranger to the Rescue seemed to be the type of book I would enjoy so I took a chance and agreed to review it. It did not take very long after I began reading to decide that I had indeed made a good choice. A historical western romance, the characters and plot were perfect and I enjoyed my reading experience.
Heroine Amelia was smart, brave, and determined to make her way in a man’s world of journalism. Always eager to get a scoop, she was not always as careful as she should have been and frequently found herself in a bit of trouble. Attorney Evan was quite happy to settle into his new office, especially after barely escaping a noose due to mistaken identity in the previous novel of the Texas Ranger series. He and Amelia had settled into a routine friendship but it didn’t take long before they realized that there might just be more to the friendship than they first thought. However, circumstances arose that put their relationship to the test and their lives at risk.
The plot of Ranger to the Rescue moved along at a steady pace and was filled with ample danger, action, suspense, and romance to keep most readers happily turning the pages. A great story of second chances and dependence on the Lord, this book more than met my expectations. I hope to find time to read the first book of this series so I can learn more about Evan, his sister, and her husband.

This is my first book by Renae Brumbaugh Green, so I didn’t read the first book in this series to meet the characters there. But it was good as a stand alone for me. Amelia has lost her fiance a few years back, and another relationship was off limits, so she thought. But maybe it can happen again for her.
I really enjoyed this historical fiction set back in the late 1800’s It was actually set around the time my grandfather was born, which is exciting, but he wasn’t born in Texas! It’s still nice to think about grandaddy as a baby the time if this setting!
I also enjoyed getting to know the the early days of this Texas town. A lot of this story is surrounded by Amelia, and her distrust of the lawmen in town, and the fears she has about another relationship. I really like Evan, and was cheering on a relationship between the two. And as the two spends more time together, their feelings begin to change. And Amelia starts to realize more about God’s faithfulness, forgiveness, and the fact that she needs to let go of her feelings and give them to the Lord. I appreciate the way the author handles this. And I strongly encourage you to pick up a copy of this book and read it. If you e joy a good clean historical fiction, with faith woven in the characters everyday life, you will love this one!
A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.
My Thoughts on Ranger to the Rescue: Second in a series. I loved the first book in the series so I knew I was going to enjoy this one as well. Meet Amelia. She’s suffered the loss of a fiance who was a lawman and has sworn that she’ll never lose another. Her current beau is a lawyer. Much less danger in his line of work. Or so she thinks.
The life of Evan gets much more interesting when he’s appointed a Texas Ranger. Now Amelia must give up on love because she won’t lose another man she loves to being a lawman. But is she going to have a choice?
Amelia and her sister get kidnapped. Is it because of her society column in the newspaper? Or is something more afoot. Amelia has dreamed of writing front-page news for the paper but she didn’t want to BE the front page news!
Such a fun read! I highly recommend this book and hope that you’ll read it and this whole series. I’m excited to see what will come next.

In Ranger to the Recue it was fun to go back and revisit with the Convington siblings. Evan, now free after the scary debacle of being mistaken for a murderer, now has a chance to open his law business. He is also getting to know and becoming good friends with Amelia the town newspaper reporter.
Both Evan and Amelia like each other as more than friends and due to their friendship are ready to take the next step in their relationship. They have some hiccups along the way. Evan is ever protective and Amelia wants to be treated as an equal. Then for a time Evan is asked to step in as a Texas Ranger. Amelia never wanted to be a with a lawman again after her fiancé was killed, and if that means not having her second chance with Evan, then so be it.
However, things go from bad to worse as some bad guys come to town seeking revenge that throws Evan, Amelia, and Evan's sister into the crossfires. This was an adventurous romantic read with a few heart pounding moments that I enjoyed.
I received a copy of this novel from the publisher. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.
Adventure and Romance really make a great book. Ranger to the Rescue is the first time I have read a book by Author Renae Brumbaugh Green and I was quite impressed with the characters and the storyline.
Amelia is a reporter for a local Newspaper, Evan is a Lawyer in Houston. Amelia lost her fiance when he was in the line of duty as a Lawman. She feels like she can never love someone as strong as she did her fiance, until Evan comes along. They both find themselves falling for each other, although both are career focused. They officially begin courting and then Evan is named temporary Ranger for the town. Amelia gets frustrated as she feels she may lose someone she loves due to him being a Ranger. Amelia is kidnapped and Evan has to help her. Will Evan rescue her? Will their relationship and courtship survive Evan's temporary job?
I HIGHLY recommend Ranger to the Rescue, which is book #2 in the Texas Ranger Series by Renae Brumbaugh Green. I did not read the first book in this series, but it is a great stand alone book. I am looking forward to reading Book 1 and future books in this series!
Ranger to the Rescue is the second in Renae Brumbaugh Green’s Texas Ranger series. Written in a style similar to the first, this book tells the story of Evan Covington, new lawyer setting up his practice in Texas, and Amelia Cooper, a woman reporter in the man’s world of newspapers. Someone is burning fishing boats, and both Amelia and Evan are on the case, however on opposing sides. There’s something “fishy” going around, the town seems determined to blame one scapegoat, but who truly is the guilty party? As Amelia investigates, she continually finds herself in dangerous situations, frustrating Evan, who wants to protect her, even court her. Despite Evan’s efforts and intentions, he angers and offends her at every turn, as Amelia tries to prove not only who is causing the problems in town, but also her worth as a woman reporter.
Renae Brumbaugh Green’s writing style makes for quick reading, and is great for teenage & young adult readers. I appreciate her atypical characters and strong women pioneering in new careers.
*I received a copy of this book in return for my honest review.
Adventure filled and fun! Renae Brumbaugh Green has delivered a great story once again! This is book 2 in a series where the main characters are introduced and developed. I highly recommend both books 📚📚.
Amelia lost her fiance two years ago. He was killed in the line of duty as a lawman. She would never love again especially never again if the man was a lawman. But something was happening between her and the local attorney, Evan. At least he wasn't a lawman!
Then her best friend's husband, a Texas Ranger, had to leave town and appointed her man as a temporary Texas Ranger. No! That can't happen, she vowed to never love a lawman! She had to get away from him, she couldn't bare being around him because she just knew that his temporary assignment would get him killed. But then something happened and she was now in danger. She is a spunky lady, I really enjoyed her story! This book is great!
"Ranger to the Rescue" by Renae Brumbaugh Green is a short novel that I read in one setting. It is the second in the setting. I believe even if you didn't read the first one, this story would still be enjoyable, but I recommend reading "Lone Star Ranger" just so you know the whole story.
This is a clean love story but there is kidnapping and violence and guns in the book but I would still recommend it.
This is a story about being true to yourself and those you love. I really liked the ending because it clearly shows that if you love someone you want them to be happy and that you are willing to make sacrifices for them.
I was given a complimentary copy by the author and Celebrate Lit. These opinions are my own.
I really enjoy Renae's writing. Her stories are engaging and quick reads. Before I know it am done! This is the second book in this series, but it can be read as a stand-alone. I couldn't wait to read Amelia and Evan's story. Amelia has an idea how things should go (like many of us) but God has other plans and begins working in her heart to see maybe His way is better and He will take care of her. I loved the clever use of sign language in the book, what a fun addition that played into the plot well.
A copy of this book was given to me through the Celebrate Lit Team. All opinions are my own.
Having met Amelia and Evan in "Lone Star Ranger", it was nice to get their story. I liked Amelia and Evan and their drive to do their jobs well, but the conflict between them seemed resolved early on and they started helping each other. Amelia flip flopped between not seeing Evan as husband material to thinking he was and back again. It was a little bothersome. I liked that their relationship grew gradually and didn't seem to happen overnight. I also liked the fact that the characters sought God and His direction.
I got a free copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own and given voluntarily. No compensation was received for my review.
Ranger to the Rescue by Renae Brumbaugh Green is book 2 in her The Texas Ranger Series. Having not read the first book in this series, I found it a bit confusing and hard to follow for the beginning chapters. Perhaps I would have gotten more out of this book if I'd read the first one in the series. While the book did have a kidnapping and outlaws in the last half of the book, I found the beginning to have a slow start.
~ This book was provided free and I was under no obligation to write a favorable review. (2020)
This is book two in the series. I would recommend reading book one, first. I haven’t and it took me a few chapters to figure out what was going on but from there it was action packed!
Green writes some really good characters, who are strong and determined. Even the women aren’t weak and frail. They go after it!
Full of cowboys, horses, danger, adventure, and sweet romance, this was a great read and I recommend it if you enjoy historical fiction based in the west.
I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.
It would probably be best to read the first book in this series to really understand some of the comments made but you can just read this one and still enjoy it. I liked the characters of Amelia and Evan. The romance was cute and there was a little intrigue with some action. It was fun to read about Texas Rangers and a female reporter. I received a copy of this book from Celebratelit for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
This is an exciting, adventurous, love story. Evan, an attorney by trade, is temporarily anointed as USRanger in Houston. Amelia is the best friend of Evans’s sister, Elizabeth and also a reporter for the local newspaper. Amelia and Elizabeth are kidnapped by two outlaws and Evan sets out the find them. You will enjoy the daring tale of how he finds and with the help of the Sheriff and a deputy rescuers both women.
Back before women were given jobs that men usually did, Amelia wrote the Society column for the Houston paper. She was a hound to get the story too. Because of that she met Evan who was a lawyer with a thriving practice. They were quite intrigued by one another. Then came trouble in spades. A fascinating story with well developed characters with lessons to learn.
This short book surrounds the hatching of a new Texas Ranger, who only ever wanted to be a lawyer. But a taste of the thrill, and danger, of rescuing the two women he loved, made the transformation an easy decision. Especially when those two women urged him to wear the revered badge and gun. I did find it unbelievable that they tromped around in the swamp for two days and only encountered one alligator and one water moccasin. But it was overall a good read.
This book is spell bounding! Each character becomes stronger as the story moves along. This writer incorporates Romance, morals and adventure along with deep faith in her story. The story also supplies certain geographic locations for this era. Describing every detail. Very good.
I love the first two books of The Texas Ranger Series. They were written with an eye to detail, a touch of romance and humor , and best of all a Christian heart. Well done!
The Texas Rangers are a independent policing agency and have an interesting role law enforcement. It takes a special live kind of woman to love love. Maybe an independent journalist ie just the right love.
Very entertaining story that dealt with wrestling with our own fear(s) and entrusting them to God in faith. You don’t want to miss out on your best life or love because of fear. You can trust God to give you courage! I enjoy this series!
