Would you be surprised the best things in life come in unexpected packages? No, of course not. An ardent student of human nature, I love ancient history, myth, and dragons. I don’t remember thinking … someday I’ll grow up to be a writer. I just always had stories to tell. I love to travel, take pictures, garden, read, and work on remodeling the house. I live in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains with my husband, the occasional dear, and many hummingbirds. In between all that, I write whenever I can.

Oh, wow!
I just loved this book! While some of the story was a little predictable, there were original elements that were new to me. I honestly thought the ending might go a bit different from how it actually did. And while that was just a teeny bit disappointing, I found after reading the last page, that I couldn't have been happier that Gabe and Taylor found their happily-ever-after. I finished this book several days ago and this couple, this book is still on my mind.

All the characters in this story added more complexity and enjoyment for me. Especially Daisy and Rose. And while there were plenty of secondary characters, that fact did not take the spotlight away from Gabe and Taylor. The synopsis of this book does a good job letting you know what to expect but the talent in which this author weaved this story made The Sheriff's Baby Bargain so much more. There was some angst, suspense and even some guessing on my part. I don't want to say there are dark elements to this story, but there is a bit of a cloud shadowing all the happy. As, I mentioned, I wasn't 100% sure how this book was going to end. But I’m so pleased with how it did.

This is the first in the Angel Point series. I am so in love with this small, enchanting town and I can't wait to see what comes next. I definitely recommend this sweet romance!

This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it. :)

“The Sheriff’s Baby Bargain”, by Susan Lute (Tule Publishing), is a sweet and romantic story, featuring a delicious wounded hero and a bold and feminine US Marshal turned small-town sheriff heroine.
Gabe, a devoted doctor, is resigned to what he sees as his fate. His perception of his “shortened future” is wonderfully written by author Susan Lute and we can feel the pain, and the acceptance, too. I was very curious to see how the shift would happen.
Gabe is sweet and tender, yet he really knows how to flirt: he’s “a playboy doc with a heart of gold”.
Taylor is a great protagonist, too, a tough, strong woman, with a soft heart.
I was more interested in Gabe and Taylor’s friend-to-lovers relationship than in other things going on with other characters in Angel Point, which distracted me a little from the romance.
Still, there was a male character – Grant – very appealing, I hope he will have his own story.
This was a sweet story about different kinds of love, and about hope, with relatable characters, in a small-town setting. I really enjoyed our different wounded hero.

There are definitely two sides to this book. When it comes to the actual storyline, I loved it and loved the chemistry and connection the main characters have. There are some particulars about raising babies that just drove me crazy though. But let me talk about the good first.

Both Sheriff Taylor and Doc Gabe are wonderful people. They care about their community and, most of all, the people in their community. Although Gabe is looked at as a sort of playboy, everyone still loves him since he is very up front with his intentions and he’s just so nice. Taylor is quite new in town, but the citizens have adopted her as one of their own and she feels a strong bond to the people already. No matter how much everyone loves Taylor, she can’t seem to do well on dates so Gabe is always trying to give her pointers all while trying not to fall for the strong-minded sheriff. When the two of them band together to care for an abandoned baby, the pull they feel becomes very hard to ignore.

Again, I’ll say I enjoyed the chemistry and arc of this story. There were some things I felt were told and not shown in their relationship. That was mostly things that had to do with them co-parenting Rose, not their actual relationship with each other.

As for Rose, the baby. Gabe is supposed to be an obstetrician. Sure, he’s not a pediatrician, but I’d assume he’d know the ins and outs of baby raising. At least to a certain extent. At first, I was able to somewhat ignore the odd mention here and there about Rose’s sleeping habits and such, but seriously. Not only did this man put the newborn baby to sleep with a loose blanket multiple times, he also put her down on her belly. I know, you may think I’m overreacting. But I’ve been living with my baby granddaughter since she was 2 months old and I know these are all no-no’s. In fact, the sleeping on the belly thing was a no-no back 22 years ago when my second son was born. So it was an annoyance to me. I fully realize I tend to be picky about strange things. But it’s such a simple thing I felt the author (or her editor or beta readers) should have caught before the book got this far.

Overall, this is a very enjoyable story. I will definitely seek more form this author and hope to read the next in this series.

US Marshall Taylor James is just the temporary sheriff for Angel Point, with no plans to stay long-term. She splits a duplex with Gabe Adams, a flirtatious OB doc who never dates the same woman twice. They're just friends, but when Gabe witnesses yet another failed date of Taylor's, she asks him for dating advice. They skirt around the edges of a growing attraction, but neither one wants to commit to more.

Things change when Taylor is called to help a teenaged girl in labor at the bus station. Taylor gets her to the hospital, where Gabe delivers the baby girl. The mother names her Rose. When she abandons the baby at the hospital, putting Gabe's name on the birth certificate, Gabe decides to take temporary custody until he can find her a good two-parent permanent family. Since he had leukemia as a child, he lives in fear of it coming back, and wants no long-term commitments--especially with a child...or a woman who's leaving town when her current sheriff's term is up. He doesn't want to leave anyone behind if he gets sick again.

Taylor decides to help Gabe with Rose, and can't help thinking he'd make a wonderful father. How to convince him to stop living in fear and just embrace what he has?

This is a sweet contemporary romance, at turns funny and sad. I loved the small town setting and the cast of characters. Angel Point is a town I'd love to visit and hang out in. I enjoyed getting to know the residents and look forward to seeing them getting their own unique HEAs. Taylor and Gabe were a great couple, and watching them go from friends to lovers--and deal with baby Rose--was an enjoyable journey. I would recommend this book to my friends.

This is Taylor James and Dr. Gabriel Adams's story.
The clam chowder is great,” Taylor said as casually as she could manage, despite the thump of her heart, as butterflies dive bombed in her stomach. In fact, Camille’s shellfish stew was known far and wide as the best along the Pacific Northwest coast. “I recommend the chowder bowl.”
“Chowder bowl it is, then.” Bill smiled at her. That was a good sign, wasn’t it?
Forcing a normal breath, she placed their orders with Camille Rivers, owner of The Chowder House. Camille cast Taylor that look. The encouraging one that said, Good luck, honey.
She nodded in Gabe’s direction. “Mother Nature threw out the mold when she made that man.”
Taylor resisted glancing at her landlord where he still lingered with his date, laughing at something the blonde said. “Uh…no.”
The playboy doc with the heart of gold, as Gabe was affectionately known behind his back, going out with the girl who couldn’t get a man to stay through a whole meal? A pity date? Wouldn’t that be a laugh? On her. Better they just remain friends.
The Sheriff’s Baby Bargain by Susan Lute is a 4 star book.

I received this arc from Tule Publishing in exchange for an honest review. This was a nice sweet romance about Taylor, who finds it difficult to know how to date. She is awkward on her dates, not knowing what to talk about or how to act around a man she is interested in. She is on temporary assignment in Angel Point as their sheriff/Chief of Police. She is a federal Marshall whose partner got injured when they were on a job. She moved and took the job to recover from the incident. Taylor is renting half of a duplex From Dr. Gabe Adams, an OB, also known as the Playboy Doc. They have become friends, having pizza together on Fridays.

Taylor is on a run, passing the bus station when they call her over to ask for help as one of the passengers has gone into labor. She contacts Gabe and they have the girl, Daisy, taken by ambulance to the hospital. Gabe delivers the baby and Taylor is there for Daisy. It’s a girl and Daisy names her Rose. They go to visit Daisy and Rose and the nurse tells them Daisy left without Rose. She put Gabe’s name on the birth certificate and left her for him.

We learn that Gabe had leukemia as a child and knows that even though he’s in remission, it could come back. As a result, he won’t have a serious relationship and knows he can’t father children. He blurts out that he had leukemia to Taylor without sharing any details. He’s using this as a reason to not keep Rose, but rather find her a 2 parent home. Taylor has no experience with babies so Gabe has to teach her the basics. Gabe and Taylor strike a bargain. She will help him care for Rose and he’ll give her dating advice.

There were some unexpected twists in the story, including the arrival of Taylor’s dad and the view into their relationship and the final placement of baby Rose. There is an eventual HEA and the book is very enjoyable to read. I look forward to the next books in this series.

The Sheriff’s Baby Bargain begins the Angel Point series with a romantic tale of two friends, one baby, and emotions that change along the way into something worth fighting for, worth taking a risk on, maybe even breaking a few long-held rules of life for in order to truly live a life that’s full of everything – including love.

While there is some world-building, there has to be some at the beginning of any series, and we do meet some interesting secondary characters in this small town. I easily fell into this story and completely enjoyed the experience. Gabe and Taylor worked so well together in a relationship that was filled with laughter, comfort, and friendship. That started to change when an abandoned baby takes up residence in Gabe’s life while their friendship goes through a few changes, growing in ways neither really expected. Sure, Taylor has always been attracted to Gabe, but she also knew his very firmly in place ‘no long-term commitment’ mindset. But, it’s only recently that she discovered why he feels so strongly about not settling down with one woman. Gabe doesn’t really trust in “tomorrow”, he’s learned that lesson well. But asking Taylor for help right now feels right, and if the emotions he always swore he’d never risk are starting to feel a bit more real than he’s comfortable with, well, maybe it’s time to rethink those life long rules of his.

If you love a good, relatable love story with believable characters, a quirky small town, and a baby to fall in love with, then you’ll enjoy The Sheriff’s Baby Bargain. I’m already looking forward to the second story in the new Angel Point series to arrive.

I really enjoyed Taylor and Gabe’s sweet love story in The Sheriff’s Baby Bargain by Susan Lute, book one in her Angel Point series. Taylor James took a break from her job as a U.S. Marshall to temporarily be the sheriff for the coastal town of Angel Point. Taylor is a good person, wanting to find the one, her Mr. Right but as soon as her dates learn about her job they desert her before the meal is served. She decides to ask her landlord and good friend Dr. Gabriel Adams for dating advice and lessons since he has no trouble finding dates. Gabe is a survivor of childhood leukemia and fears that although he has been in remission for years, that it won’t always be the case. So Gabe decided to live by two rules: do not get emotionally involved, and not to let his well organized life get out of control. When a young teen, found at the bus station, gives birth and abandons her baby at the hospital. Gabe finds he has more than a missing patient; she put his name on the baby’s birth certificate. Gabe asks Taylor to help him, dangling dating lessons in exchange. Gabe and Taylor soon discover they have more in common than taking care of the baby; magnetism and chemistry. This ends of causing both of them to re-think their feelings for each other and considering becoming a family of three. At least until life throws them a curve or two.

Ms. Lute wrote a wonderful, sweet and emotional story that is definitely not to be missed. She provided a tale rich with chemistry, amusing banter, and endearing characters giving Taylor and Gabe a chance to reassess their feelings for a future together. I highly recommend The Sheriff’s Baby Bargain to other readers.

The Sheriff's Baby Bargain by Susan Lute is the first book I have read by this author. I don’t know if she is new to writing or if somehow I have missed her book s in the past. I won’t be missing them in the future because I will be actively looking for them. What looked to be a simple romance was a wonderful sweet read with twists, events I didn’t see coming and characters that I truly liked.

There were several other things I liked about the story. First off this is not a secret baby or oops-I’m-having-your-baby kind of story. Next, from the title I assumed the sheriff is the male in the story but that is not the case. The sheriff is Taylor James, a US Marshall, one tough, clever, sensitive, caring woman. Nor is she having an unplanned pregnancy. Dr. Gabriel Adams is also clever, caring, sensitive man even if he is afraid to count on the future.

While the newborn, Rose and her future are at the center of much of the story there are also other situations, complications, and relationships to the story with some dramatic events happening in the community of Angel Point. Some more surprising than others. The ending may seem a little easy but in this time of “sheltering at home” the ending was a great reminder that better days are coming.

Take it from me, don’t dwell on the silly title. Take a chance on The Sheriff's Baby Bargain by Susan Lute because it is a wonderful, engaging read.

A super great read. I really didn't know what to expect when I was offered the spot on this tour.
I didn't realize this was a Sweet Clean story and for that I was pleasantly surprised. Susan Lute was a new author to me. I am
glad I got this chance to read this book.

I loved all the characters. Taylor and Gabe are fun and charming.
Friends that are slowly moving into a relationship that they don't intend on are suddenly thrust into a situation that has them growing closer without intending to.
When baby Rose is left to Dr. Gabe by her teenager mother Taylor and Gabe begin caring for Rose and making bargains on how to make that happen as Dr. Gabe searches for a couple to adopt the baby.
There were a couple of parts that were predictable. . . what happens to the baby's mom . . .and where she ends up.
And well the ending because it was a love story Yes Dr. Gabe and Taylor get together in the end making this a Happy Ever After.

I really enjoyed reading The Sheriff's Baby Bargain and have the
rest of this series on my TBR list.

I received a complimentary copy.

Taylor James is a U.S. Marshall, on leave, acting as the Sheriff of the quaint coastal Oregon Coast town of Angel Point. Being a marshall is a family tradition, but she's not so sure about her career after being to slow to save her partner from being shot. Dr. Gabe Adams is Taylor's landlord, neighbor, friend, and the local OBGYN. He's also a childhood Leukemia survivor and believes he's living on borrowed time, so he shouldn't involve anyone else in his life. When Taylor finds a young girl in labor at the bus station one night and Gabe delivers little Rose, both of their lives change. Rose's mother lists Gabe as the father on the birth certificate and disappears. To save little Rose from going into the foster care system, Gabe doesn't disagree with the paperwork and he and Taylor take the baby. As they work their way through the situation, their own feelings become clearer, but when Daisy reappears and wants Rose back, it rocks their plans. A tornado (in Oregon???) helps make their feelings much clearer and they get their HEA.

Taylor is a US Marshall who left her position there and went to Angel Point to become their Temporary Sheriff. Now she has to decide is she going back to being a Marshal or will she take the permanent position as Sheriff and stay in Angel Point.

She currently rents a duplex from the towns Playboy Dr., Dr. Gabe Adams, and she agrees he is a hunk. She finds a young lady at the bus station who has just turned 18 and is about to have a baby. The girl seems to be afraid of something and can't afford to go to the hospital. Taylor calls Dr. Gabe and takes the girl, Daisy to the hospital. Daisy has a cute baby girl that she names Rose. She doesn't want to hold the baby or have anything to do with her. While Dr. Gabe is talking to Daisy on his rounds in the hospital, Daisy is filling out the birth certificate. Then later that day he gets a call from the hospital telling him to get there fast. He does and guess what he finds.

Read the book and you won't be disappointed. Or at least I wasn't.

This first book in this new series, is a sweet, clean and at times heartbreaking romance, that will touch your hearts.
Temporary Sheriff in town (and a US Marshal on leave) , Taylor James and physician Gabe Adams, are two individuals whose past has molded their present, and unless they reassess their lives, it could also mold their future. But are they willing to make a change and take a chance at a more fulfilling life?
When an unexpected baby brings them together and takes over their lives, what will happen? As plans are made for a possible future, they are thrown a curveball. Will that be the last straw that will keep them from having their individual and together’s happiness?
This was an engaging story with complex main characters and a good cast of secondary characters.
It was also the first book I read by Ms. Lute, and now can’t wait to see what happens in book 2 of the series.
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Tule Publishing. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

Ok

I liked the premise. But I was not a fan of how the baby situation turned out. And honestly I agree with Gabe. How could Taylor do that? She betrayed him after talking him into having a life and making connections and letting people in. Honestly that girl isn’t trustworthy. Just up and say sure move in, take the baby. No. Sorry. Yes people make mistakes and deserve second chances but not that fast without proving yourself. Idk. Personally really upset by how the book route went. Yes it has a HEA for everyone but idk.

Ok read

I was enjoying the beginning a lot but it got slow and repetitive with their he doesn't she doesn't feel the same. Then the ending was a huge let down. I was so excited for them to make it all work but it all got messed up and ended pretty lame compared to the hole books build up.
I feel bad leaving this review but I wish I hadn't wasted my time so I hope this help someone else.

This book was “sweet and clean” - there is no sex and only mild cussing, so if those things bother you, there shouldn't be a problem here.

*** SPOILERS IN THIS REVIEW***
Although the writing was good, this story frustrated me. I loved the idea, the theme, but there was so much time spent focusing on the wrong things, details that didn't matter, and not nearly enough time spent on the pain and tragedy of Daisy's return and Taylor's character evolution. Taylor pretty much just accepted that Daisy was back and handed over Rose without much thought, but Gabe had bonded with that child. He had fathered her. For Taylor to act like he wasn't suffering a loss by having Daisy return and take the baby back just went to show that Taylor needs therapy to help her figure out how normal people process emotions, rather than spending her time lecturing Gabe for living his life with his emotional walls up. There were also a lot of weird moments and unresolved plot threads, nothing huge, of course, and let me be clear that there is no cliffhanger, but I have questions. What happened with Gabe's dad and the nurse? Did Gabe and Taylor ever adopt? Where is Taylor's mother? Did Gabe get visitation rights? Did he get in trouble for falsifying the birth certificate? I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS.

All that said, I did enjoy the story, and the writing was good and the story was interesting enough to keep me reading, I just wish this book had felt more realistic and more complete. (Again, this is NOT a partial book, it comes to a full stop ending, no cliff-hanger. The next book in the series has completely different characters.)

Taylor is the temporary sheriff of the small town. Her dating life is lacking. Maybe it is the fact that she is the law that turns men off or maybe she just has not me the right guy. Dr Gabe is an obgyn who brings life into the world as a living. Having survived childhood leukemia he knows their is a possibility that it could return and cut his life short. He has made the choice to throw himself into his work and not have a personal life that could leave someone grieving him. Taylor rents out the other half of his duplex and they have become friends. When a young mother puts his name on her baby's birth certificate and then disappears, Gabe needs Taylor's help. She agrees to help for dating tips and advice since he is a serial dater. What could go wrong when the chemistry is off the charts and they are both fighting it for the sake of their friendship? Maybe Taylor is enough to make Gabe live in the present and not worry about the future. After all no one's future is guaranteed. Good Read!

Taylor James is a determined woman. She is a US Marshall and has taken on the temporary job as Sheriff of Angel Point. Taylor's family has a long history of being a part of the US Marshall's service. She is very proud of this history but she has taken a leave of absence from the Marshalls while she thinks about what she wants to do with her life after a life altering event. She has accepted the short term position as sheriff and is renting half of a duplex.

On the other half of the duplex resides Gabriel Adams, her landlord. He is also known as Doctor Gabe. Growing up, Gabe dealt with a serious illness which he survived but it left him with long term issues. He is bound and determined to never have children and never have a serious relationship. Childhood trauma, if left untreated, lingers into adulthood.

Taylor and Gabe have zings but only decide to act on them when they become the accidental guardians of a newborn. Can these two work through their hang ups and find a happy ever after? Obviously yes since this is a romance book. But it is always about the adventure that leads them to their happy ever after.

This is the first time I have ever read a novel by Susan Lute but it definitely will not be the last one.

I did receive a copy of this novel from the publisher in exchange for a fair and unbiased review.

Susan Lute’s first book, The Sheriff’s Baby Bargain, in the Angel Point Romance series brings all the feels to the story of two people who had quite a lot to overcome in their lives, past and present, to get to their HEA. Gabe and Taylor were definitely a couple I lost my heart to, especially when baby Rose came into their lives. At one point Gabe’s devastation that broke his heart was so well written that I could feel his pain in my own heart.

Ms Lute is a new to me author, one of which I’ve now added to my Author Watch list. I’m certainly looking forward to more stories in this series, with this cast of characters, I can only imagine what this author has in store for the future of Angel Point, Oregon.

This ARC book was complimentary, provided by the Publisher. I am voluntarily providing my honest review.

great read!!

Taylor ad Gabe live side by side in the condos Gabe owns. Since she came to town to be the Sheriff they have become very good friends. Gabe is a busy delivering babies so they both have hectic schedules. They are both single each for their own reasons so they won't act on the attraction the feel. I loved the humor even when things were getting tense. I thought Taylor being a US Marshall as well as the sheriff was an amazing twist. The way the baby Rose entered the picture was a surprise but she was the catalyst that really brought them together. I love the small town where everyone knows you name and your business. I loved the characters who came together to make a family. I liked how the sensitive issues the story brought out were handled with understanding.

I haven't read Susan Lute's books before but hope to read more in the future.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story, friends to HEA. This is a sweet clean romance set in the small town of Angel Point. Sheriff Taylor shares a duplex with Dr Adam, that he owns, they have become friends and the Dr has one rule, he doesn't date his renter. Soon they strike up a bargain, The Dr needs help with a baby that was left to him and the Sheriff needs help with dating advise. Soon their friendship develops into more but both are afraid of going forward. Can they both overcome their difficulties and find their HEA?

This was wonderful book that kept me turning the pages. Loved these characters, both with so much to give to the community. Loved baby Rose, such sweetheart. Great secondary characters, along with the secondary romance. I can't wait to return to Angel Point.

This is one of those books that is a slow start for me. But once I got into it, it moved right on along into a nice burning romance of a read. Sheriff Taylor is lucky if she can make i through a date much less get to a second one. And her biological clock is ticking. If you never read Susan lute this is a great place to start. She takes Taylor who worked for the us Marshall and now is temporarily sheriff of her town, puts her living in a duplex owned by Dr. Gabe Adams known for being a hotty. Taylor can't seem to get a date that doesn't end bad. Asking Gabe for advice seems the answer. In between his job and hers a young pregnant girl gives birth putting Gabe on the birth certificate before she skips and leaves her baby. When i tell you this is a truly lovely story with more than one great thing going on at a time. Between the baby Gabe takes in Taylor who finds herself falling in love with him and his past medical issues you will love this book from page one. can't wait for more

Nice enough

It was indeed a nice enough story with an enchanting group of main characters in the small coastal town where everything is magical and wonderful. But babies don’t gurgle when they are less than a day old, and other things like that including a paediatric doctor to scared to live and love fully after having childhood leukaemia and is infertile is unreasonable, and untrue and if you can study hard enough to become a specialist doctor, you can put aside childish worries and get on with life. Some major parts of the book were just make believe, and a bit hard to swallow. I don’t see how adults cannot talk to eachother about how they feel.

Taylor is a US Marshall taking a break in small-town Angel Point. Gabe is her landlord, friend, and one of the town's OB's, but neither one of them is falling for the other. The first half of this book moved slowly -- not too slowly, as there was a lot of set-up for the rest of the story. 2nd half of the book moved more quickly -- almost too quickly -- there are a LOT of relationship issues and I don't feel they really tackled Gabe's reluctance or some of the larger issues that kept them apart. It is a premise I haven't read before, and there were enough interesting parts to keep the story moving and to keep me reading. Standalone, part of a series, HEA.

Nice to read a book with a female Sheriff!

Taylor is the town Sheriff, which seems to be putting off all her dates. She turns to friend and landlord Gabe for help. He is a serial dater so surely he can help her out.

Everything changes when a baby is rescued and ends up in their care - can Gabe let himself think about a future for once? Being a sheriff is only supposed to be a temporary job for Taylor, but will she give Gabe and the town a chance long term?

Looking forward to the rest of the series.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for a voluntary and honest review.

This was such a sweet read about an abandoned baby left with an obstetrician to care for when the young mother runs off after delivery. With the assistance of the town’s sheriff, the doctor cares for the baby while he looks for a suitable family to adopt the little angel all while falling in love with the beautiful sheriff. The story comes together so well and draws the reader into the Angel Point world right from the beginning and continues to make you feel like a part of the characters’ world through the whole book. A great start to a series that I look forward to reading more of.
