For decades I have shared stories with friends and family about my years as a funeral director. The most common response was, you could write a book. My memoirs entitled "Dead Serious; my life as a Funeral Director." is filled with stories to make the reader experience a vast array of emotions. Some sad, some funny, and some quite frankly people might not believe, but I am dead serious.I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I have enjoyed the 30-year journey.
I read this book mostly out of curiosity. Parts of it morbid parts numerous. One complaint I have is that spell check and editing were poor at times. Still, it was informative and answered questions that probably many are wondering but afraid to ask. The stories about Kevin getting to know some of the clients personally and becoming friends with them were relatable and sweet. I do scratch my head at the story of the expensive, rare ring left on deceased finger and buried then miraculously given back to the family. Worth the read.
This book consists of personal anecdotes and short stories which invite the reader to experience a range of daily thoughts and feelings of the author. At times quite emotional and sometimes graphic the reader is given some real life experience through the eyes of a real funeral director and embalmer. I read this book in two sittings and found it engaging and interesting while being easy to read. If you are looking for a book that takes you there without being full of jargon this is it. I hope the author continues to write about his career as his book is well written and fun to read.
As an aspiring funeral director this author gave incredible stories on the life of a funeral director. The good and the bad! I literally laughed out loud and learned a few tips! The author went above and beyond for his families and that is the kind of funeral director I'm going to be when serving my families some day.
Rough. I fought to finish and finally gave up at 60% through.
This novel is just a ramblings of a man reliving his glory days. Numerous paragraphs of stories of crappy jokes and times he “took control” and “commanded the room”.
Definitely came from the old age of death care. Thankfully the field has grown so much since.
I would appreciate it if someone could please edit this book and then contact me so I can finish it and give it a proper review. There are some very interesting stories within the chapters, but, personally, I cannot move past the absolutely awful grammatical errors on almost every page. PLEASE EDIT! Thanks!
This book was a great read. It shows that Kevin is a kind, caring person who enjoys life and his job. I mean that in a good way. Your helping people and that counts for something. Thank you for sharing.
I loved this book! The stories were very intriguing and things that you’d never think of unless you’re in the funeral business. It was an easy and enjoyable read, but could have benefited from some additional proofreading as there were a lot of typos.
I loved this book, I used to work In the profession so understood everything Kevin references in the book, brilliant read absolutely loved it, nice one Kevin looking forward to the next.
The style this author uses to formulate these varying stories of passing on, featuring all mannar of people of all walks of life, is refreshing while informative.
