An important book based on conversations between a mother and her young daughter.

The conversations focus on listening with patience what your child has to say and giving answers from your own level of understanding and not pretending to behave otherwise, learning and teaching your child to say ''I don't know" when we don't know the answer to something.

I love the interactive conversation. I love the art. It seems like real photographs have been used with background paintings. It gives you all the summer fun vibes.

Enjoyed it.

Wish it was longer than this.

“It’s okay to say, I don’t know,” says her mother.
“When we don’t know something, we get to wonder about it!”

Few pages, huge message.

This is such a beautiful, sweet read - the story and the illustrations. The author's note further explains the message behind the book development, which is that it's okay to say, "I don't know", to wonder, and teach our children curiosity. Highly recommended.

The simplicity, the beauty of the illustrations, and the importance of grasping the feeling of 'not knowing something', whether as an adult or a child, is so well-encapsulated here.

Marvelous book! A must read by parents and caregivers everywhere. I used to hate when grown ups didn't have answers to my questions, or made stuff up. I also hated when adults made fun of me for not knowing something. This book is respectful and teaches both ADULTS and children that it's ok not to know something and admit it! And to ask a question, to seek answer and not be told its stupid a stupid question. I like that it encourages curiosity and seeking knowledge. The illustrations are wonderful!

What a beautiful book! I loved the illustrations - it had a very calming and soothing effect on the brain!
The message: It's okay to teach the young ones that we do not have answers to everything and that life is mysterious! It most probably will set a strong foundation for independent inquiry.

"Eva takes a walk with her mother and encounters a range of mysteries: from gravity, to life cycles, to the vastness of the universe. She learns that it’s okay to say “I don’t know,” and she discovers that there are some things even adults don’t know—mysteries for everyone to wonder about together! I Wonder is a book that celebrates the feelings of awe and curiosity in children, as the foundation for all learning."

I know that it's a book for children, but somehow I just wanted it to be a little bit more....something. I had such high hopes. Maybe when I read it to my own children and see how they respond I will feel differently.

Fantastic book on the nature of the known and unknown for any young child, or adult for that matter.

I picked up I Wonder by Annaka Harris expecting a simple story, but I found a profound philosophical lesson disguised as a children's book.

In a world that constantly demands answers and certainty, this book is a gentle reminder that it is okay—dare I even say… beautiful—to simply not know.

You don’t know what you don’t know.
and
It’s truly okay not to know.

The story follows a young girl, Eva, and her mother as they walk through nature. Instead of providing immediate scientific explanations for everything Eva sees or giving some fabricated response if she doesn’t know, the mother encourages her to sit with her curiosity. The book reframes "I don't know" from a statement of ignorance into a launchpad for wonder.
What a gift that is, truly.

One of my favorite moments:
“When we don’t know something, we get to wonder about it!"

The illustrations by John Rowe are so dreamy and ethereal, and they match the tone perfectly. Harris does a fantastic job of teaching children that mystery isn't something to be embarrassed about or feared or that everything needs to be solved immediately. But that it’s something lovely to enjoy.

I really wish it were longer. Just as I was settling into the rhythm of the questions and the soothing atmosphere the pictures provided, it ended. The concept is so strong and so important and I really felt like there was room to explore more scenarios or dive a little deeper into Eva’s thoughts.
Overall, the book feels brief and poetic.. but more like a snapshot rather than a full journey. And I just wanted it to delve deeper. Maybe she’ll write a book about this topic for grownups!

It got me thinking about Carl Sagan and all that he spoke about with curiosity and not knowing and wonder and how lovely it is to be able to learn something.

And for that alone, I rounded it from 4.5 to 5 stars :)

This is a beautiful book about curiosity, asking questions, and not always knowing the answers. Dreamy, purple and gold-toned illustrations portray a girl and her mother as they explore nature and the universe, asking questions, finding some answers, and being happy just to wonder. A great book for our investigations unit, but also for encouraging growth mindset, extending boundaries and relaxing into not always knowing.

I LOVE this book! The illustrations are so beautiful but the concept is something every child needs. The concepts of how the moon stays close to the earth, or the cycle of life of a butterfly is something we all wonder about and prompts great conversation with your little one. I really like the fact the author (and mother in the book) explain how saying "I don't know" is totally acceptable and encouraged! What a concept so many adults need to learn.

Great book with amazing illustrations. I greatly enjoyed how the message of being curious and saying "I don't know" was conveyed in this book. Too often people don't realize it's okay not to have all the answers and this book is one way to share with kids that it's okay to just wonder and not know.

Wonderful book for children. It's OK to say 'I don't know', when kids ask about things like death and the afterlife instead of making up warm, fuzzy stories. I gave this book to my friends daughter and she chose this for her book report. There's so much in our wonderful universe to understand no need to repeat old tired myths that only confuse children.

Picture book by Sam Harris’s wife, Annaka Harris. I read it to my 1 year old niece hoping to teach her about the hard problem of consciousness, freewill vs determinism debate, or the veil of ignorance but the book ended up being very basic, with the main character just wondering where the universe came from. Beautiful illustrations though.

We really enjoyed this - the questions are interesting, the illustrations are lovely and it ends with a question to the reader.

Kaitlin likes pandas and wonders what bamboo tastes like.

Maddie wonders what the inside of your body looks like.

Thie book is beautifully written and illustrated and asks questions about how our world was made. Beautiful story to talk about science and the world around us. My grade 1 students thought this was going to be a "girls book" and were pleasantly surprised by the story.

I think it's a great message to tell children that it's okay for them not to know everything. To wonder. Equally important was the message that even adults don't know everything, and we too wonder.
