Not Without You
It is 2088, and life in the city where Sala lives is hard: it's overcrowded, there are no jobs, and no one can leave, because the world outside is contaminated. Sala is lucky, because she has Cham, and they love each other. But when Cham gets the chance for a new future, and Sala begins to make some extraordinary discoveries, will they agree about how to move forwards and what to do with their lives?

Would you like to read an interesting science-fiction book? Then “Not without you” is the best option for you! It is written by Gill Harvey and published by Oxford University Press, on May 16th, 2013. It is a mixture of adventure and romance, and after every chapter you will want to read more! It is a really nice and compelling book, we loved it.
The story takes place in an overcrowded city, in 2088, where you cannot leave and everything is controlled by the government because, apparently, the world got contaminated. The protagonist is Sala, a strange girl that would love to see the outside world. She lives with her brother Apat, her mother and her grandmother, who hates the way her life is now and loves nature. Sala has many friends but also has a boyfriend, Cham, who loves her but doesn’t have the same conditions of his beloved.
The problem begins when Sala’s grandmother receives a letter from a mysterious woman. What is it about? Sala and her family get extremely excited with it, until devastating news about her boyfriend spoils her day.
The book is really nice and an interesting piece of literature if you enjoy adventure, mystery and romance. When talking about these aspects, respectively, they include Sala’s vision about the government and what they should do; the mysterious letter and the woman who delivered (what were her intentions, per example); and, last but not least, the once stable relationship between the protagonist and Cham.
If you think it through, it is similar to the book “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep.” This means if you liked this book, we highly recommend “Not Without You.” It has a similar background, even though the character’s goals are different. We could even imagine they have a literary trend connection!
About the author Gill Harvey, she is a british writer and editor at Usborne Publishing, studied at Oxford University and has written many books, such as a version of Gulliver's Travels and some books based on the Egyptian mythology.
There was much research done about the book, there were lots of discussions, opinions and collective readings before writing this review, so we credibly say it is an interesting science-fiction book.

June 9, 2022 Spoiler free review on the book Not Without You by Gill Harvey, published in 2019 by OUP Oxford. This book is science fiction.
The story takes place in 2088, where we read about Sala’s story, a girl that lives in an overcrowded city surrounded by boundaries that keep people inside the city, because, according to the government, the outside world has been destroyed by the Oil Wars. For being overcrowded the city has multiple skyscrapers that also have underground apartments and there are not enough jobs. Sala’s lucky, because her mother has a great job in a meat growing laboratory, her boyfriend Cham isn't that lucky and their parents lose their jobs, and motivated to help he decides to join the “Pod life”, something that the government created where you live inside a Pod for at least two years and get paid for it. Living with Sala there’s her grandmother (also known as Gran) who lived for a short period of time before the Oil Wars and was separated from her brother. When a stranger appears to Sala and tries to prove to Gran that her brother is alive the whole reality is about to change and what they were taught to believe loses sense, meaning that not only her brother is alive, but the world outside is survivable. This revolutionary group is now trying to pass people through the boundary, but there are things and people standing on their way.
In my opinion the idea of this book is great, it has an amazing world building and interesting characters. This book had a huge potential for being great, but it was a little disappointing… The ending felt very flat and I had bigger expectations for it. The world building was good but it really should have continued and not ended, I felt like I had just read the introduction of the book and needed the rest.
